well....i think they will eventually have kids, but at the same time i can totally see them being the cool and funny uncles to their friends' children and deciding not to adopt, especially since they already have zachary, who, despite not actually living with them, definitely spends quite a lot time with his brother and thomas <3 i bet they go to cirenworth every other day and zachary absolutely adores his dadash and tom and wants to stay with them all the time when they go visit (imagine him being super exciting everytime they are supposed to come, like he wakes up super early and starts jumping on his mum's bed screaming at the top of his lungs 'dadash and tom are coming today !!!! i can't wait !!!!!! maman wake up !!!!!!!!' and sona loves his baby too much to complain also how could she ever blame him when thomas is a literal angel on this earth who treats her beautiful son like the most precious thing in the world, is the man even real-)

it's basically canon that they both dote on kids and we can totally see it in the christmas party scene(s) aka the scenes that altered my brain chemistry forever so no way that among their friends' children they won't become everyone's favorite uncles....they're both kind, funny, caring, affectionate....kids just adore them and want to play with them all the time. so why not adopting kids themselves once zachary is a bit older and they're, idk, around their 30s? i absolutely love this scenario as well *sobs* and i think they would make such good parents 😭

but yesss, i cherish both the perspectives....adopting kids at some point and taking care of their own children too or just looking after zachary and being constantly adored by their friends' kids 🥺

ok my thoughts and headcanons on the carstairs/lightwood in-laws now that thomastair are official and out to their families

eugenia and alastair bond over being exasperated by their younger siblings. they have a standing tea date every other week to gossip and complain (thomas tries to join once and gets himself banned from his own sitting room).

cordelia and eugenia also become close friends. eugenia misses her sister and would never dream of replacing her, but it's nice having cordelia around. they go shopping together. cordelia eventually helps eugenia gain the confidence to open her heart again and cheers her on when eugenia enters her first courtship since augustus.

cordelia and thomas are constantly giving each other recommendations for poetry. thomas primarily recommends the irish poets his mother shared while he was growing up and cordelia commits herself to helping expand thomas' knowledge of persian works.

gideon and sophie absolutely adore sona, and the feeling is very much mutual. sometimes the lightwoods go visit cirenworth just to see her and help with zachary. of course zachary has alastair and thomas in his life as strong, kind male figures, but sona is glad that gideon is there as well. and, of course, sophie and sona get along like a house on fire. they gossip almost as much as eugenia and alastair.

when it comes to zachary, all of the lightwoods absolutely love and adore him. family dinners typically devolve into a game of pass-the-baby so everyone gets a turn to hold him while they all talk. eugenia and gideon are the best at making him giggle, and alastair and sona are the only ones who are able to get him to sleep at those dinners.

speaking of family dinners, those are definitely a monthly occurrence. they rotate locations between the lightwoods' house, thomas and alastair's house, and even occasionally cirenworth or james and cordelia's house.

thomas and alastair eventually decide to get married. it's a private ceremony, of course, with only their close friends and family. eugenia officiates. sona and cordelia walk alastair down the aisle and sophie and gideon do the same for thomas. zachary is their ringbearer, being just grown enough to toddle down the aisle and hand them the rings. ari and cordelia stand with alastair as his groomswomen, and james and matthew stand with thomas (they save a spot for christopher, since everyone knows he would have been thomas' best man).

when eugenia gets a new suitor, the man expects to have discussions with her father about treating her right and respecting her, and even the talk with her younger brother about not hurting her is expected as well. the surprise comes when alastair and cordelia appear to talk to him, together, and give one of the most blood chilling shovel talks in the history of shovel talks.

gideon and alastair actually take a minute to warm up to each other. they never directly address the origin of their tension together, but gideon decides nothing said by a hurt teenager is worth soiling his relationship with his son-in-law. after he rather aggressively and indirectly proves to alastair that he is trustworthy as a father figure, they get closer and alastair even opens up about growing up with elias, which only makes gideon decide to be even more of a father figure to him.

tell us more about middle aged thomastair lol

Thank you for this opportunity to completely shamelessly indulge in some of my favourite headcanons, lol. First, if you want to read about Thomastair at several stages of their lives, might I offer my fic A Ribbon of Dream up as an offering? Canon-compliant, pure fluff, checks up with them at random intervals of their life until they're 70.

As you can probably tell from that, I think they will always be film junkies.

I think that they retire around 40 since that seems to be the age that most Shadowhunters stop battling demons outside of emergency situations. (Of course, they'll dispatch of any demon in their paths - but they'll be off the front lines and patrol sheets then. Wouldn't want to blow their backs out.)

One of my favourite headcanons (that might turn into an eventual fic) is that they just totally vanish for a year. Tell everyone they're retiring and going on a trip. Totally drop off the map for 52 weeks and commune with the wider world. They travel to various places and see lots of cool things, and some of it's super weird and rural. Introvert heaven. They basically are like "people? nope" and go on this big romantic retirement trip. Come back a year later. Thomas has a mustache.

Throughout their lives, I think that Thomas and Alastair adopt and love many, many pets. Mostly hedgehogs and cats, but maybe a couple of dogs thrown in there because we see that they like them. I prefer the idea of childfree Thomastair to alternatives, but if they adopt a kid it'll be some abuse survivor that they rescue from a bad situation. Just couldn't turn their backs on the kid. But I prefer them childfree and write them as such.

I like to think that they become extremely close with Matthew and his family. In most of my post-canon headcanons, Matthew and his partner are best friends with Thomas and Alastair as the group dynamics shift post-TLH. This is definitely self-indulgence, but I stand by it as the healthiest and best avenue for all the characters to take. So, like, Old Guy Matthew fucks around with Old Guys Thomas and Alastair all the time. 10/10 the future I want to see.

Thomas gets salt-and-pepper hair when he's about 30. He looks older than he is quickly - you can see this starting even in ChoT when he gets wrinkles at 18-19. Alastair thinks it's sexy but also teases him a lot because he has beautiful lush perfect black hair. The day he gets his first gray hair at about 45, he's super dramatic about it and screaming at Thomas from the bathroom about his lost youth. Thomas makes fun of him for sounding like Matthew.

They live in the Cornwall Gardens house until they're around 60. But they travel a lot and aren't always there.

I like to think that they eventually retire to Paris at about 60. You can see this in A Ribbon of Dream's final chapter. They get a nice flat overlooking the Champs Elysses stuffed with books. They stargaze on their roof.

I've mapped these guys' whole lives out. In my headcanon, they do that thing some married couples do at about 85 and die at the same time in each other's arms at night.

Oh, and a word for Thomastair: Um,,, pearl!

This is part of another longer fic idea I've had in mind for weeks where Thomas and Alastair go to Italy. After we met yesterday, I just knew that I had to use this for the prompt you asked :)

Thomas had never been on an actual beach before, so the day after he and Alastair arrived in Italy, the first thing they did was packing their bags with towels and food and go swimming in the bright blue Mediterranean sea.

They were walking on the shore when something picked Thomas’ interest and he couldn’t help but taking it in his hands to inspect it. “Look what I found,” he said to a curious Alastair, “it looks like an oyster.”

Alastair didn’t know much about seashells, but he believed that Thomas could be right. “It is really interesting,” he commented.

“There is no pearl inside,” Thomas said with disappointment after opening it, not really sure what he was expecting inside the shell.

“You are a pearl, hamsaram,” Alastair said, and that was enough to make Thomas forget about the oyster altogether.

guess who finally finished chain of thorns over a week later 🤩 my completely unorganized thoughts for the general public anyways chain of thorns spoilers ahead bros

- ghostwriter is the relationship i love them more than i love my life it's just like the cute little moments between them like when lucie was nervous before her parabatai ceremony with cordelia and he was holding her and comforting her i melted

- i honestly think james and matthews relationship was dealt with really well we know nobody is ever gonna top jem and will but i think they were written really well and them in edom together was so emotional to me

- tell me why i was so heartbroken when christopher died but i only cried when grace sent that fire message and wrote that it was created by kit 🥺lol i'll tell you why it's because we got zero real reaction about it

i wanted anna's pov as her baby brother died in her arms

i wanted cecily and gabriel seeing their sons body taken into idris and realizing what happened

where was sophie and gideon who also lost a child comforting them?!?!?

honestly i think that since christopher did die there was a lot of potential there

-after this book i feel like grace is a lost kitten and i want literally nothing more than to adopt her also did anyone else catch at the end when they said that grace doesn't talk much idk but i would like to give her a home

-the thomastair content 🤩🤩🤩 i love them so much i love that they're moving in together i love alastair with his baby brother i love eugenia saying she's gonna renounce her family if they don't accept thomas when he came out. every scene with them was a masterpiece

also alastair's personality like my boy is sassy and sarcastic and i would die for him

-i think the anna and ari's storylines progressed really well and they've come so far since we've first met them 🥺

-anyways my #1 ship matthew x sobriety came true and i could not be more thrilled

the moral of my rant here was that i really loved it and i think it's just cause im so in love with each of the characters but i loved almost every second of this book and didn't want it to end my only complaint would be how christopher's death and other potentially emotional topics (will and tessa crying when they found out the kids were stuck in london) were kind of just glossed over but overall i was in love with them all and i don't think i can accurately describe my feelings so that was my jumbled mess of thoughts

Thomastair Soulmate AU

Alastair sat in his room, when he felt it, a sharp pain, then a gentle tingle. He stared in wonder at his left arm, watching the beginning of a tattoo form. A rose shape had appeared by the time he was called to dinner, and he rushed to cover it up. It was a sign of soulmates after all, and he wanted to keep this a secret. Just as he had kept the brown streak of hair that had come in a secret. He walked downstairs to join his mother and Cordelia.  

“….Black is so common Layla. I do hope we know him.. he is a Shadowhunter though. We know that because of the parabatai rune.” His mother was saying.  

“Yes, yes. Black is common. Cordelia’s soulmate is a Shadowhunter. We don’t know if her soulmate is romantic or platonic, boy or girl yet. She could have both a romantic and platonic. We’ll have to wait and see.” Alastair said as he sat down 

Cordelia turned to her older brother “You don’t have to be rude about it, ya know. And because you were too busy pouting in your room, you missed the news. We are moving to London! I will finally be able to be parabatai with Lucie!”  

London. Which meant being in proximity to Charles. How would he be able to keep his secret living a mere carriage ride away? He finished his dinner quickly, rushing back up to his room to watch the rose complete. It had been difficult to feel the tingling, to hide it from his mother during dinner. He marveled at the eight points that had formed, and now some letters were forming. N was at the top, on the rightmost side was E, the bottom had the letter S, and the left had W. While it was nearly complete, Alastair began to panic. He recognized the design, had been shown it when he was in Paris. Alastair knew right now who his soulmate was. Thomas Lightwood. He now had to hide the mark from Charles, so he wouldn’t wonder where the mark came from and why he didn’t also get one.  

In theory, when the brown came in among his dyed blonde, he knew that Charles wasn’t his soulmate back when he didn’t get a streak of fiery red. He never processed it. Calm down Alastair, he thought, Thomas might be your platonic soulmate. But when he thought about that week in Paris, he knew. Thomas was his romantic soulmate, not platonic. Thomas was his one love in life.

Soo I have decided I’m going to be posting a song every Sunday, maybe not every week depending whether I have songs to post but yeah. Also I have been considering singing my songs but I’m slightly insecure about my voice even though I really want to so maybe you’ll see this sung??

Ok, so this is called Paris, and no it’s not Fairstairs it’s Thomastair (the other Carstairs 😯). The inspiration for this was their relationship obviously, but why it’s called Paris is because Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter and The Chainsmokers all have a song called Paris, all of which I love and it became my aim to make my own… which I very obviously did. Now: I will be making a part 2 to this or I will completely edit the song so that it has some thing the same but everything else different after COT comes out and I’ve read it. I’m gonna be doing the same thing for the Herondaisy song I’ve written and will be posting either next Sunday or a bit earlier because of the COT release. I genuinely love this and the Kit and Ty song so much so I hope you guys like it the same amount too! Now here I present Paris based of Thomastair written by me:

thomas!!!! i feel he would write the cheesiest things just to annoy alastair and because he can't help it (alastair secretly melts inside every time he finds one of those notes and then proceeds to curse himself for being the most foolish lovesick man to ever set foot on earth).

both of them?? probably thomas is the one who starts it (buying cheesy gifts for alastair quickly becomes his new favourite activity) but imagine alastair witnessing thomas's reaction at one of those cheesy gifts for the first time. he gets him something very little and silly and is not even sure thomas could like it but the moment he gives it to him the other boy gets so flattered, like so flattered. his face immediately lits up, his cheeks colour a deep cheery red and he can't stop smiling, eventually blurting out a faint and soft 'thank you'. he's so fucking adorable. to the point that alastair becomes addicted to it and starts buying thomas little gifts at every possible opportunity, even if it means spending hours in a shop just to find the perfect gift.

oh boy, i have read too many godly fics to not say thomas (also because i feel he's an early riser?) the way he would whisper alastair's name in the morning, slowly kissing every inch of his face till the man doesn't wake up with the biggest smile on his face....y e s. but im pretty sure alastair won't hesitate to kiss thomas awake when he has the chance (also thomas's sleepy face is the most adorable thing in the world and alastair can't help but kiss every part of it with such adoration and devotion it makes thomas's heart melt a little every time).

who starts tickle fights

jwkdjsj this is the easiest one: 100% thomas. oh, the way alastair would swear his terrible revenge while thomas can't stop laughing because that man is absolutely ridiculous

who asks who if they can join the other in the shower

yep, that's alastair (and after weeks of internal debating whether asking or not thomas wouldn't even answer, he would just drag alastair inside).

who surprises the other in the middle of the day at work with lunch

my boy thomass of course. also im sorry but thomas can cook....c'mon, he has been coached by the queen sophie herself. he certainly knows how to cook, and he's quite keen on baking if you ask me <3

he bakes alastair the best scones following step by step his mother's recipe (and will take revenge at his father for regularly embarrassing him in front of his boyfriend by telling gideon how much alastair liked his scones and never hid any of them under their bed. sophie will just laugh while gideon will shoot thomas dirty looks all the way through).

who was nervous and shy on the first date

BOTH!! they were both so nervous and excited. tom was panicking like 'omg omg i'm having a date with my life-long crush, and he's so beautiful and perfect and omg i think he likes me too...?? what if i ruin it?? HELP" alastair instead tried to calm himself down multiple times like it's no big deal alastair. everything is gonna be fine, breathe alastair, breathe. but as much as he wanted to cool off, his heart wouldn't stop racing and deep down he was so afraid to say the wrong thing and ruin everything

but when they both noticed how much the other was nervous (because of course they did, they understand each other perfectly) they started feeling more and more relaxed. anyway, they ended up having the best date ever and didn't stop smiling for weeks (of course cordelia and eugenia noticed and teased them for it <3)

who kills/takes out the spiders

mmm. i feel none of them is particularly afraid of spiders and they would easily take them out if they need to. and you know what? i think alastair is the one who deals with the hard work. it's not that thomas is afraid, he just finds insects gross and doesn't like to get too close and risk touching them in the process. alastair doesn't notice at first, but at the latest broken promise to take out the spider on the kitchen shelf, he just gets it and handles it by himself (thomas will swear he would have done it eventually and alastair will kiss his cheek like 'sure tom, sure, next time i'll leave it to you').

who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk

it's tooom. alastair doesn't ever get drunk (for obvious reasons), thomas instead does, but very rarely because he hardly ever drink (for both alastair and matthew's sake and also because he's never been that keen on drinking). however, on those rare occasions he drinks he easily gets drunk (not *wasted* levels but more *im gonna say the cheesiest stuff and be so clingy* levels). thomas is a very reserved and quiet person who keeps his sweetest thoughts and deepest feelings for alastair and alastair only, so when he's drunk he just says things he would normally say to alastair... in front of an audience. he's just more uninhibited... probably a little too much.

he pulls the first person he finds aside and starts a five-hour monologue about how much he loves alastair carstairs and can't imagine a life without him. he hugs and kisses alastair all the time, no matter if he's busy chatting with someone or doing literally anything else. thomas doesn't even interrupt him, he just gets closer, as if he can't manage to stay away from the other boy more than two minutes straight. sometimes he runs a hand through alastair's hair and starts giggling for no apparent reason. alastair is a blushing mess and struggles to stay focus all the way through.

once he turns to matthew and goes "math, remember when you said alastair's eyebrows are nice? well, i think he has beautiful hair too, it's just so soft. and his eyes are so pretty, like sooo prettyyyy. and oh my god his lips-" and he caresses every inch of alastair's blushing face while talking.

matthew wants to puke the entire time while alastair is still stuck at matthew's opinion regarding his eyebrows.

Hello Fellow Gracetopher Lovers!

Welcome to Gracetopher Week!!!

To celebrate this particularly lovely TLH couple we've decided to host a week to celebrate them like Thomastair Week, Ghostwriter Fest, and Filogenie Week! (If you are aware of any canon or non-canon TLH specific ship weeks that do not know about, please let us know!)

This post marks Gracetopher Week 2022!

The celebration will take place August 1-7! There will be seven celebration days with specific themes!

8/1 - Song Day!

Starting the week with a song that you think fits Gracetopher! It can be a song specifically for Grace, Christopher, or both of them romantic or platonic. Anything you think fits them works!

8/2 - Quotes!

Post a quote (picture/text/etc.) for Gracetopher! This can be any quote by anyone you'd like that seems good for Gracetopher. Be as creative as you want!

8/3 - Headcanons!

On the third day we'll be doing headcanons! These headcanons can be for just Grace or just Christopher, or it can be for both of them. It can be a combination of themes such as their friends or family or just the two of them as a couple. Do as many as you'd like!

8/4 - Fic Day!

Do a fic or a drabble for Gracetopher! If you're a frequent TSC writer and you haven't written them you can definitely try stepping out of your writing comfort zone with this. These fics can be as long or short as you like, even the start of a multi-chapter fic, they can be drabbles or just little prompts. Be creative!

8/5 - Pictures!

This can be art/drawings, edits, aesthetics, etc. You can be super creative with this, and it's a great way for content creators to celebrate Gracetopher. It's also a wonderful way for the fandom to celebrate our artists and editors. Have fun!

8/6 - Favorite Content!

Today's Gracetopher content is supporting other people's Gracetopher content! Reblog or make a post about your favorite Gracetopher fic, fanart, headcanons, or just a blog or creator who enjoys doing things for Gracetopher. Support is what makes Fandoms.

8/7 - Free For All!

Make or do whatever you want for Gracetopher! It can be just one or both of these two characters, and you can do anything listed above or anything that you come up with. This day is a total free for all!

I am hoping to write a Thomas Friends and Family drabble collection, and I am now opening prompts for.it. I will close the inbox after getting 15 prompts total. You can send 2, but please no more until everyone has a chance to send some in. I will complete them when I finish 2 current WIPs, so probably in a week or so.

Thomastair will of course be in the background, but I would like the focus to be on Thomas with other characters because I want to explore other Thomas dynamics too! I especially would like Thomas with TID characters, Eugenia, Cordelia, Matthew (please), Christopher, James, and perhaps Lucie but I'll decide about Lucie fics on a case by case basis.
