Mademoiselle Violette: Oui, it was quite an affair! I was waiting for Oscar outside the post office and idly standing by when he rushed right into me! The tumble was quite severe, I was so unsteady on my feet and he helped Oscar assist me home. Truly, I am just as stunned as you are, though why he was rushing about the square I have no idea.

Madame Adelaide: It appears I owe Ernest more credit than I currently afford him. He does always seem to surprise me.

Mademoiselle Maybelline: And are you well recovered? When I last came to call Oscar mentioned you were still terribly unwell.

Mademoiselle Violette: I assure you I am quite well, though Oscar is still in quite a state. If it wasn't for la Douairière I wouldn't have been allowed out for our weekly stroll!

Madame Maybelline: He's always been the...overprotective type. Mine would have left me on the sidewalk to rot.

Mademoiselle Violette: [Scoffs] Honestly, Maybelline...In all honestly I'm surprised he hasn't started breathing fire down the necks of every suitor who comes to call. Though I believe him too busy these days to notice.

Mademoiselle Maybelline: And what news from you, Adelaide? I hear Gaston is looking more weary with each passing day as his impending nuptials loom closer...

Mademoiselle Violette: Is that true? And here I thought the big conversation would be about Eleanor turning down le Monseigneur's invitation to join him at le Prix de Thornolie.

Mademoiselle Maybelline: Quoi? Where did you hear that?

A coup de Majesté is a brutal act or order dictated by the monarch, notably to forcibly subdue the beginnings of opposition, or even rebellion or revolt against him, and thus re-establish his authority or power.

Eleanor

Age 22

Born Eleanor Alexandrine Odette de Thornolie. She is the Daughter and first born of Monsieur Le Roi Aurélien and Madame La Reine Anaïs de Thornolie.

Eleanor, recently finished with her university studies, has begun to be seen taking on several royal duties for Thornolia, with an emphasis on foreign events. She is a reserved, watchful, and quiet woman, not seen much in public due to constant media harassment.

Because of this (and other reasons) she has a hard exterior and trusts no one, and can be extremely standoffish, making her a very solitary figure as no one attempts to push past and see there is more to her than meets the eye.

1850: Night at the Opera (in collaboration with The Royal Thornolia Chronicles)

After my months-long Celtic spree, the time has come to briefly return to my old era of interest...

May I present to you a small 1850s set, made together with amazing Ali, the author of @theroyalthornoliachronicles! We're both so excited to finally share it with you all 💗 Make sure to check Ali's post for her half of the collaboration - practically necessary if you want your mid-Victorian gentlemen to be properly dressed for the evening!

While Ali dealt with the men, I focused - surprise surprise - on the ladies. And made two evening dresses, both inspired by the same fashion plate from ca. 1850:

If you follow Ali's story, you probably remember that a certain mademoiselle Eleanor Valery wore the dress on the right to an opera event. The dress on the left also made a short appearance, as it (or rather: its beta version) was worn by my simself Cecile, who was kindly invited to participate in the evening as well (no, that's not my real name. I just asked my husband to give me a random female French name, and that was the first thing he came up with ;)). And so both dresses are named after those characters: Eleanor and Cecile.

Both come in 29 swatches and I swear all of those colour combos come straight from mid-Victorian fashion plates - even if Ali claimed some of them remind her of 1980s Barbies ;)

polycount: ca. 17K for Eleanor (that's HIGH my friends, you have been warned. Believe me or not, it's mostly the fault of all those tiny deco flowers) and 7,5 for Cecile

You might notice that they vary slightly in style, and that's because I put an insane amount of work into texturing Cecile, as somehow I couldn't get it to look any satisfactory with my usual methods. I love the result, but the whole process was so convoluted that I'm not even sure if I could still retrace all the steps, let alone redo Eleanor in the same style. So we're left with this small discrepancy between both dresses. Hope you don't mind!

Dr Maja: Mr Hacker, I will do my best but I will not be making any promises. That’s not how this works. The Queen’s recovery is entirely up to her. All I can do is help her along the way.

Ms Stokes: Good morning, my name is Laura Stokes. I am to be the new Lady's Maid to Princess Valeria.

Mrs Byrd: Good morning, Ms Stokes, and welcome in Stark. My name is Mrs Byrd, I am the housekeeper here. And this is Miss Beckwith, Princess Juliet's lady's maid. Did you have a pleasant journey?

Ms Stokes: I did, thank you. Though I must say, it was long, and I am relieved to be here now.

Mrs Byrd: So are we, Ms Stokes. Ms Beckwith, as well as the two other lady's maids in the house, Ms Smith and Ms Jordan, have been taking turns in taking care of Her Royal Highness, but everyone will be relieved to get back to their usual duties. Her Royal Highness has... a demanding schedule for a maid, so for her having her own is important.

Ms Stokes: I see. Well, I am sure she and I will work well together.

Mrs Byrd: I hope so. As I understand it, you worked for the Dowager Empress Maria in Windenburg before?

Ms Stokes: (while looking around) Yes, and before that, I was in Thornolia and worked for the Duchess of Thornkett, unfortunately she died during childbirth, so after that I went to Windenburg.

Ms Beckwith: What made you choose Anland, and Stark, for your next position?

Ms Stokes: I grew up here, and my father is still here; I felt a little homesick.

Mrs Byrd: Let me introduce you to the Butler... you can leave your luggage here, Ms Stokes, one of the hallboys will take them to your room. Mr Pickens?

Mr Pickens: Ah Ms Stokes. Welcome! I am Mr Pickens, the Butler here at Stark By The Sea. I hope you will be happy here, and that we can provide everything you require.

Ms Stokes: Thank you, Mr Pickens.

Mr Pickens: I can't remember now, have you already met Her Royal Highness?

Ms Stokes: Yes, sir, but it was a rather short meeting. I do believe we will get on well though.

Mr Pickens: We certainly hope so. The previous candidates did not seem up to the task and left us again rather quickly. Hopefully you are made of sterner stuff.

Mrs Byrd: Let me show you around.

Mrs Byrd: As you can see, during the mornings it is quite busy here. Back there is the boot room, and a storage area, where you can find all kinds of things that might be useful in your duties. In the storage room you will also find a closet with your uniform.

Ms Stokes: A uniform?

Mrs Byrd: Yes, in Anland it is tradition that in royal households, everyone, even the senior staff wears a uniform. Should you go into town, or accompany Her Royal Highness somewhere, you may wear your own clothes, otherwise you will wear the same uniform that Ms Beckwith is wearing.

Mrs Byrd: Here we have part of the laundry; should Her Royal Highness quickly need something washed, you can do it here, and then we have...the sewing room.

Mrs Byrd: This is the kitchen, with our cook, Mrs Handson. To the kitchen maids you can introduce yourself later. Mrs Handson, this is the new lady's maid, Ms Stokes.

Mrs Handson: Welcome, Ms Stokes. Please approach us, should you need something. (mumbles) and may God bless your soul...

Mrs Byrd: Right, now, over here...

Mrs Byrd: ... The servants hall. Here you can rest, if your schedule permits it, have a drink, and this is where we take our meals. As you can see, we have many staff in the house, you will be properly introduced to them during dinner. Now follow me...

Mrs Byrd: This is my sitting room. The senior staff gathers here usually after dinner to discuss the events of the day and chat. You are always welcome during these meetings, and should you have problems or questions, do find me here.

Mrs Byrd: Now, Ms Beckwith, would you show Ms Stokes the rest of the house? I have the laundry book to go over.

Ms Beckwith: Yes of course. Follow me, Ms Stokes.

Photos From the Rococo Ball Released!

Alnwick Palace has released photographs from the Duke and Duchess of Windshire’s fancy dress party, hosted at Audrey Castle last night. 

The photos showed the royals enjoying the party, with many chatting amongst themselves throughout the evening. The royals also engaged in waltzing and dancing for a portion of the evening before departing around midnight.

The Duchess of Clifton (whose husband, the Duke of Clifton, was not in attendance) could be seen mingling throughout the evening with Princess Victoria of the UK and Princess Adelaide of Valencia, and Queen Eleanor of Elvaria was seen chatting with King Reginald. The Marchioness of Sudeley was could be seen deep in conversation with Princess Lorelei of the UK and Queen Alma of Simovia, and were overheard discussing the lingering effects of the Great Sim War. Nearby, The Duchess of Windshire chatted with Princess Eleanor of Thornolia near a portrait of a shared Alnwick royal ancestor, Princess Margareta Madeline Marre of Winchester. 

Across the room, King Herrick and Crown Princess Genevie of Edenbrück were seen chatting with the Marquess of Sudeley, the Viscount Binoir of Carrington and Crown Prince Felix of United Realm of the Federated States, while Queen Jacqueline caught up with her old friend Queen Aisling of Culloden. Later in the evening, Queen Aisling was spotted chatting with King Arthur and Queen Emilia of Albion. 

Many royals joined in when the dancing began, with Princess Belle of the Winden Territories choosing to waltz with Prince Arthur of Windshire. Although Princess Belle arrived with her own date, Mr. Thomas Bertrand (who chose to dance with Prince Arthur’s younger sister, Princess Victoria), Princess Belle’s choice to dance with the heir to the Winchesterian throne raised a number of eyebrows in the room. Prince Henry, the youngest royal in attendance, chose to dance with fellow youngster Princess Ophelia of Melide.

Royal guest arrivals - Véllian royal wedding part 2

The festivities have officially started with the first royals guests arriving to Gyges cathedral.

First to arrive was HRH Prince Leopold, Marquess of Sudeley with Lady Lily Mitford. The pair looked stunning as they made their way to the cathedral, marking a perfect start to this exciting day. Lady Lily’s dress was a gorgeous garnet red creation, and she was seen wearing a blinding diamond kokoshnik. @houseofroyalsims.

Next to arrive was TRH Princess Seraphine, Duchess of Wellington and Joseph, Duke of Wellington. The pair dazzled with their sleek uniform and wonderful dress. Princess Seraphine chose to match the gorgeous designer dress with a diamond choker and a kokoshnik tiara. @markinghamroyals

HRH Crown Princess Victoria of Fairlake and HRH Princess Jade of Fairlake was next to come to the cathedral. The royal cousins looked remarkable in their satin gowns and beautiful updos. Crown Princess Victoria wore a dazzling tiara with diamonds, while Jade decided against wearing one. Instead she wore a pair of diamond and gold earrings, matched with a stunning emerald necklace. @theroyalcoldwells

After them, TIH Margaret, Princess Imperial & Woojin, Earl of Willingdon arrived to the cheers of the masses. Princess Margaret was seen wearing a wonderful floor-length, peach-ombre gown matched with a diamond tiara and pink sapphire brooch. She finished the look with a pair of long, diamond earrings. @threesimsroyal

Last of these five pairs of royals was HRH George, Prince of Thornwood and HRH Princess Eleanor of Thornolia. The two royal siblings looked fantastic in their military uniform and shimmery green gown. Princess Eleanor was seen wearing the gorgeous Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara, which complemented her dress perfectly. @theroyalthornoliachronicles

Comte de Montavin: [Dark Chuckle] Not sure I had a choice, Oncle.

Le Roi Gaspard: En effet. Arabella is certainly a force to be reckoned with. Let us hope for your sake your bride is not the same.

Comte de Montavin: Hmm....

Le Roi Gaspard: These things are never easy, Gaston.

Comte de Montavin: You mean having your hands tied behind your back?

Le Roi Gaspard: Given your proclivities I would be suprised if this was the first time.

Comte de Montavin: [Chuckles] I wasn't aware you knew.

Le Roi Gaspard: Ton père has always kept me informed of your whereabouts, neveu. You should hardly be surprised.

Comte de Montavin: [Sighs] I suppose not.

Le Roi Gaspard: You have grown into an honourable man, Gaston. This may not be what you intended for your life, but-

Comte de Montavin: And how would you know?

Le Roi Gaspard: You are not the only one in this room who was forced into a marriage they didn't want.

Comte de Montavin: [Shocked] You and-

Le Roi Gaspard: Oui. The last person on this Earth I ever expected to be bonded to was ta tante. But forces beyond my control made sure I had no say in the matter. I was bombarded with a wedding, a wife, and a new path in life all in one evening.

Comte de Montavin: I...I don't understand. Who would have the ability to force you into marriage?

Le Roi Gaspard: Someone long since passed...

Comte de Montavin: Qui?

Le Roi Gaspard: ...It's not important. What is important is despite what is being burdened on your shoulders is not more than you can carry. Between ton père, ta tante, and myself, you have been raised to overcome these challenges. Marriage is a fickle business, Gaston, but you have the knowledge and intelligence to manage those turbulent waters with ease.

Comte de Montavin: Did you truly just relate my impending marriage to my naval experience?

Le Roi Gaspard: [Chuckles] Merely making sure you're paying attention. Now come along, we mustn't keep ta tante waiting. I fear you've already endured her rath long enough, and I'm not sure I want to join you in your boots.

Presenter Sophie: His Majesty the Emperor married Empress Charlotte, a love affair born of a long childhood friendship. The young couple were married by His Holiness Pope Benedictus XIX, the Emperor's godfather. Welcome to Mr. Arthur Thomas, our specialist on crowned heads…

Journalist Arthur: Thank you, Sophie. Presenter Julien: What should we take away from this imperial wedding, Arthur?

Journalist Arthur: A lot! First of all, Empress Charlotte has once again won over the French. She's a charming, well-educated young woman who, above all, knows the Emperor by heart. She has mastered imperial protocol to perfection this day, and I'd go so far as to say, better than the Emperor!

Journalist Arthur: Indeed, the image that amused the entire empire was His Majesty's discreet micro-nap during the mass following the Pope's blessing. If this royal somnolence amused the majority of spectators, some of us hope that the Pope or the Empress didn't take offense at such a lack of control.

Journalist Arthur: Speaking of control, as far as foreign personalities are concerned, Madame Royale de Thornolie has once again distinguished herself by her perfect self-control. The sharpest tongues may regret the usual over-rigor displayed by Her Royal Highness at every public appearance.

Journaliste Arthur : Merci Sophie. Présentateur Julien : Que faut-il retenir de ce mariage impérial, Arthur ?

Journaliste Arthur : Enormément de choses ! D'abord, il faut souligner à quel point l'Impératrice Charlotte a une nouvelle fois conquis les Français. C'est une jeune femme charmante, bien éduquée, et surtout qui connaît l'Empereur par cœur.
