Is that Jessie fic getting a 3rd part? I want to see them reunite 🥺
I wrote this in my study I:
ALSO: I changed the club that y/n moved to because I was told Gotham wasn't near Portland and then I felt stupid but I'm not that familiar with NWSL
Tumblr media
the set up j.f
plot: Your teammate is giving you a hard time about Jessie
warnings: angst part 3 of hey there
Tumblr media
You had finally settled into your new home and had made your debut for Seattle Reign FC.
You had made some new friends and even kept in contact with almost all of the girls from Chelsea, Christine had come over every now and then to make sure you were okay but in reality there was only ever one girl that you wanted to see.
Jessie.
You hated yourself for it.
You were the one who broke her heart, you were the one to tear your relationship apart.
She has every right to ignore you.
But it still hurts when you would see each other in public and she wouldn’t even say hi.
But today was different. Today Seattle Reign would vs Portland Thorns and as both you and Jessie were midfielders you knew there would have to be some sort of altercation between you two.
Lauren Barnes, a friend you had made since your move was waving her hand in front of your face, trying to gain attention as you sipped on your hot chocolate. “Earth to y/n” she sang out and you looked up at her “Sorry?” you asked
“I said are you worried about the game but I think I already got my answer” she smirked “Oh” you shrugged “I guess”.
“So it’s true then,” Lauren said, leaning closer to you “What is?” you asked
“That you and Jessie dated before she moved to Portland”
You rolled your eyes at her eagerness “Yes we did Lozza, now go off and pester someone else” you whined, and the girl shook her head “Why’d you break up?” she asked “Because she was going to Portland and I thought my forever home was London” you told her “but you’re back here” she pointed out “I am” you nodded “So…” she trailed off “So?” you asked.
“So get back together!” she whisper yelled and you flinched away “Jesus Lauren” you whisper yelled back and she backed away sheepishly “Sorry”.
The girl didn’t stop making comments about the Canadian to you on the bus and in the changing room as you all got ready.
“You are not helping me,” you told the girl as you laced up your boots.
“I’m being honest I saw her looking at you when we were all checking out the pitch” she excitedly told you “No she wasn’t” you denied “She was! It was like you guys were playing tennis, every time you looked away she was looking at you and every time you looked at her she was looking away!”
“Do you mind focussing on the game?”
“Nope”.
You rolled your eyes in defeat and shrugged off your jacket “let’s go games about to start” you huffed and walked away.
Christine saw you walk out with a scowl as she was also planning to get an early start on the line-up.
“Kiddo what’s up?” she exclaimed and grabbed your shoulders, you turned your head towards her “Just a bad day,” you told her “Was it Lauren teasing you?” she asked and you shot your head up “How Did you-“ “I may have asked her to ask about Jessie to you” she admitted and you stepped back “why?”
“Because I have been pestering Jessie”
“Well stop,” you told her “Me and Jessie broke up a year ago” you started, not hearing the boots that were walking behind you “It’s been a year and I haven’t even got the courage to start a conversation with her and you guys are telling me to ask her out again, do you even know if that’s what she wants” you ranted.
Jessie has always been an early bird, to everything. It usually gave her peace and quiet but when she decided to join Christine at the line-up she definitely wasn’t expecting to see you waving your hands around whilst complaining.
“I haven’t even got the courage to start a conversation with her and you guys are telling me to ask her out again, do you even know if that’s what she wants?”
Your words were clean off your tongue and Jessie stepped away and hid behind the corner.
Ask her out again.
But you didn’t love her.
At least that’s what you told her.
“I’m sorry” you apologized to Christine and hugged her, sighing in relief when she smoothed her hands over your back “Freshen up kid, I’ll see you on the field”.
You walked away, thankfully to the front so Jessie didn’t have to worry about you but as soon as you were out of sight Jessie stepped to Christine.
“Why are you meddling?” she asked the older Canadian who was shocked to see her “Jessie-“ “She told me she didn’t love me and I moved states, I thought I was over her” she gritted her teeth “god” she cursed “you guys can at least talk about it,” Christine said and Jessie scoffed “she might have something that you’ll want to hear,” the older woman said softly “like what, how much she didn’t love for those two years of us dating”
“Jessie” Christine tried to reason but the girl back away “I’ll come when Janine does” she said and walked back to the room, opposite of where you had gone.
Christine watched her walk away and lifted her arms in surrender.
“Fucking kids”.

Herald of Milani: Courage Heart
Tumblr media
CR 15
Chaotic Good Medium Outsider
Adventure Path: Reign of Winter: The Shackled Hut, pg. 84-85
The baby of the bunch among the Heralds, Courage Heart here also has the dubious honor of serving the youngest of the gods we've seen thus far, with Milani becoming a full-powered deity only a century ago with the death of Aroden, for whom she formerly served as a saint. Courage Heart is even younger, being only a few decades old, having perished as a mortal in the upheavals of Galt, only to have her soul rescued by Milani and transformed into a being of divine freedom. She is so young that she still has immediate mortal family, as in brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, parents... but she refuses to ever see them if she can help it, and has cast aside her past name in favor of her divine title so that no connections can be made between her and her family. Not out of shame, or pride, or hatred, but because Galt isn't a very nice place to live, and if anyone ever found out who her mortal family is, that's a weak point that could be exploited.
She still remembers being mortal and will sometimes return in the guise of one to avoid suspicion from fiendish onlookers, taking on the shape and abilities of a Ranger of 4th or higher level, staying only long enough to fulfill whatever mission she saw fit to accomplish before departing, never revealing her divine form or purpose until she's safely back in Elysium. She never stays long enough to form attachments and purposely hardens herself against any attempts to know her, not wishing to put any allies (or potential friends) through the grief of watching a beloved companion vanish without a trace. One must imagine it a terribly lonely existence, but at least she has the benefit of friends she's made in Elysium waiting for her between missions.
Despite her appearance preceding Inner Sea Gods by a full year, Courage Heart really benefits from the two-page spread she's afforded in the book. Compared to the rest of the Heralds who have their stats, art, and lore crammed onto single pages with no room to breathe or stretch, CH has a fully realized lore block, beautiful art, and a statblock that puts an enormous number of other Heralds to shame despite being younger and, thus, much less experienced than any of them. There's a few Heralds who punch above their weight class, and CH is one of them. Let's see just what that looks like...
Almost immediately, one's eyes are drawn to CH's weapon of choice: A +3 Anarchic Morningstar, a weapon a full +1 tougher than any other Herald's. Her attacks are both highly accurate (+29 to the first hit, +14 on the last) and powerful, dealing 1d8+11 damage (+2d6 vs Lawful targets) up to four times a round, or 2d8+11 once via Vital Strike if she can't make a Full-Attack... though if you stay out of her melee range, she may instead decide to swap to her even more intimidating ranged option.
Oh yes, from a distance, her silly little rose may not seem all that impressive as a weapon, but anyone who knows anything about Milani knows just how dangerous a rose can be in the hands of her believers (that link to her article above? scroll down a bit until you read what she does to Wall of Thorns). Indeed, CH's Bloody Rose is not just a token she can hand out, but a shockingly potent weapon: A +1 Anarchic Dart, meaning it deals 1d4+9 damage on a hit (+2d6 vs Lawful) and it can hit up to four times a round, as CH can conjure as many as she wishes as a free action. While seemingly less damaging and less accurate than her melee morningstar at first, she has two to back it up: Point-Blank Shot and Rapid Shot, the first adding +1 to attack and damage rolls vs nearby creatures, and the latter giving her an extra attack if she Full-Attacks with her dart... And ALL of her weapon attacks benefit from her Favored Enemy ability, to which she has +8 vs Lawful Outsiders, +6 vs Evil Outsiders, +4 vs Undead, and +2 vs Humans giving her even more damage than she first appears to have when opposing tyrants and fiends.
Her dart isn't her only ranged option, just the only one that can critically strike: she's also got both Chaos Hammer and Holy Smite at-will to deal a burst of damage to multiple Lawful or Evil targets... but her true power lays not in what she can do on her own, but what she adds to an ongoing rebellion. As servant to the goddess of uprisings, Courage Heart gives hope to the hopeless and bolsters them with the strength to fight back against their oppressors; allied soldiers will feel the most benefit from CH's presence, but even peasants and commoners will feel new strength welling up inside them.
CH's Rebellious Aura quite literally gives hope to the hopeless, granting every ally within 60ft a +4 to saves versus fear effects and a permanent, undispellable Good Hope effect, granting a +2 to every d20 roll and weapon damage roll they make until they're no longer in the aura. In addition, her spell-like abilities benefit others far more than they benefit her, as she can grant Darkvision out despite having it herself, Magic Vestments and Magic Weapon when she already has fully magical equipment, and Protection From Arrows when she's already got the Deflect Arrow feat. All of the mentioned spell-likes can be cast 3/day, and they're not nearly all she can do to aid an ongoing cause; if she can help it, no one will die in her care. She does have Cure Moderate Wounds 3/day, but that pales in comparison to her Martyr's Blood, granting her the power to lower her own Fast Healing 10 by 1 to grant Fast Healing 1 to an ally for an hour, meaning the target regains 600 HP over the course of that hour, one round at a time. There's no limit to how many times she can grant someone her blood, just that she's restricted to only marking 10 targets at a time (lowering her own healing to 0/round for an hour), basically allowing her allies infinite out-of-combat healing. If you can't kill someone under her protection, they'll be back on their feet at full health an hour later.
But a true uprising isn't built on defenses alone, her fellow freedom fighters must be ready to take up arms when needed. Not everyone in her makeshift militia will have proper weapons, but whatever they grab off the ground will serve as a fine weapon thanks to her 3/day Peasant Armaments, a spell unique to Milani followers which allows anyone nearby using an improvised weapon to A) do so without penalty, and B) treat them as their closest equivalent simple weapon. The spell amusingly states that even a butterknife or broken chair leg can be treated as a dagger and a club (respective) while under the effects of this spell, letting a group of peasants fight back against trained soldiers with planks torn from the ground, tree branches, silverware, and furniture. With Magic Vestments and Magic Weapon being handed out, even people in scavenged armor can have a better chance at surviving long enough to escape a tyrant's grasp. Anyone who cannot or will not fight can be shrouded by her 1/day Mass Invisibility to sneak around what cannot be fought.
Also, when I say 'handed out' in regards to her magic, I mean it literally. CH can't be everywhere at once, but she can freely use Imbue With Power to grant anyone she touches the ability to cast one of her 3/day spells, expending one of her uses but allowing the target to cast it themselves at a later time. She can hand out quite the lengthy list: Cure Moderate Wounds, Magic Weapon, Peasant Armaments, Protection From Arrows, Shield Other, and Status! With the power to divide the workload between herself and her allies, it leaves her hands free to go on the offense while other people 'holding' her magic for her can get it to the ones in need, removing any potential for her enemies to try and split her focus. About the only one she might want to keep for herself is Shield Other, as it allows her to take damage meant for a chosen champion, with that damage crashing into her long list of defenses: DR 10/Lawful, and 20 Resistance to Acid, Cold, Electricity, and Fire. With Fast Healing 10 ticking her up each round, she's an excellent Shield Other battery, and even beyond all this she STILL has more tricks!
She can use Tactician to grant all allies within 30ft of her the use of her Outflank, Lookout, and Swap Places feats for 11 rounds, giving them additional DPS, initiative, and maneuverability in a single action. All the while, her allies are benefiting from her long list of buffs, both active and passive. Were it not for the shackles of divine law requiring her to operate in secrecy, there's little doubt in my mind that Courage Heart would actually whip Galt into proper shape in a matter of weeks, if not days... were it not for some factors assuring that her homeland remains in its tumultuous state. But who's to say those factors wouldn't allow CH to shed her disguise and fight at full power? Perhaps, over the course of a specific module, the players see fit to call the Herald of Freedom back to her homeland to finally free it from the parasites that have been ruining it...?
You can read more about her here.

“The First Time vs. The Second Time
Jesus is coming again. The first time He came as a Lamb; He is coming again as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. The first time He came to redeem; He is coming again to reign.
He came the first time to die; He is coming again to raise the dead. When He came the first time, they questioned whether He was King; next time the world will know He is King of kings and Lord of lords.
The first time He wore a crown of thorns; the next time He will wear a crown of glory. The first time He came in poverty; the next time He is coming in power.
The first time He had an escort of angels; the next time He will come with ten thousands of His saints. The first time He came in meekness; He is coming again in majesty.
Peter said, “Repent, therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.” (Acts 3:19-21).
Jesus is alive and well. “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20).

The Little Tag Team Match That Could
Tonights WWE PLE Fastlane has received some criticism for not having a good enough build & only relying on Cena’s star power to sell tickets, however there is a surprise match that could help set the scene for the Road to WrestleMania & it’s the match that will open up the show: Damian Priest & Finn Bálor vs. Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso.
The WWE Universe was stunned when The Judgement Day stablemates and occasional rivals finally put their petty squabbling to rest at the behest of Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and captured the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships from beloved fan favourites Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn, however anyone watching how they have dominating the scene on RAW wouldn’t be surprised, they are up with the World Heavyweight Champion Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins as the stars of Monday nights, so this was bound to happen at some point.
However their reign could potentially come to an end as they face the American Nightmare & Main Event Jey Uso, weeks following their first successful title defence against Owens & Zayn, and the results of this match could shake the table for the tag division, especially considering the truce orchestrated by Ripley & Paul Heyman, which saw Jimmy Uso & Solo Sikoa align with The Judgement Day on last night’s SmackDown.
Let’s discuss what could happen if the tag team of top faces snatch the titles away from The Judgement Day, which could prove costly for Rollins who is in a Last Man Standing match alongside Shinsuke Nakamura as tonights Main Event, his first LMS match in WWE. These matches are hazardous for both champion and challenger and if Rollins retains against the King of Strong Style, he would still be very worse for ware, which could lead Priest to strike as he still has his Money In The Bank contract, but the only reason he would cash in, alongside it being a stipulation match is because he lost the Tag Titles.
Now this could lead to two seperate things happening: Firstly, JD McDonagh (who despite being an ally to The Judgement Day has been a thorn in Priest’s side) could cost him the cash in (either by causing a DQ which leads to Rollins retaining or by stealing the contract inside the briefcase so that Damian has only a brief period of glory before it’s ripped away) & takes his place in the group and alongside Uso & Sikoa, faces the Face Team at Survivor Series: WarGames. McDonagh will eventually face Rollins at WrestleMania 40 & through his mentor Bálor’s nefarious means, he’ll capture the title, only for the bictory to be short lived as Priest seeking revenge, cashes in to become the World Heavyweight Champion, having his big solo moment on The Grandest Stage Of Them All
Secondly, Priest cashes in successfully at Fastlane and becomes the new World Heavyweight Champion. This alongside Dominik Mysterio’s North American Championship recapture on NXT this week + the addition of Uso & Sikoa to the team’s allegiances would lead to Bálor & Mcdonagh battling it out to take the last spot in Team Judgement Day. Now either, Bálor will be chosen and McDonagh in a fit of rage, coats Priest at his next title defence, which will likely be the final RAW of the year which falls on Christmas Day causing him to drop the title to the surprise returning CM Punk (whom despite controversies, is set for a shocking return to WWE & will likely be a member of Team Cody at WarGames, as the event is held in his hometown of Chicago, Illinois)
This could also affect how Team Cody is structured for Survivor Series: WarGames. Initially it looked as if Owens & Zayn would join the team of faces, however last night’s SmackDown, in which John Cena & LA Knight were joined by Rhdoes & Uso caused a massive crowd pop, meaning the status of the remaining members of the team are now thrown up in the air. If Cena & Knight are chosen to be in the team, then Rhodes & Uso would have to win the titles tonight and face Owens & Zayn at Crown Jewel, with the two ultimately pulling themselves from the match due to not being at 100% for the event, or due to their egos being bruised. Drew McIntyre will also likely be approached but will turn them down flat out, which will only add fuel to the fire for the Scotsman’s eventual heel turn. Desperate in needing members, the two will turn to the always reliable faces who will accept and together alongside Punk will most likely win the match.
Rhodes & Uso’s reign will carry on to the Royal Rumble, where against The Street Profits (and their corrupting mentor Bobby Lashley) they’ll duke it out in a brilliant match, only for Jimmy Uso to cost his brother and see the newly formed stable crowned Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions & this will ultimately lead to Jey eliminating Jimmy from the Royal Rumble, leading to several inter brand swipes that leads to an eventual Uce vs Uce match at WrestleMania 40, whereas Cody will most likely be a factor in a potential match between McIntyre & a returning Randy Orton, whom the former is set on destroying anything his former rival has touched (he’d already taken Riddle away whilst Orton was injured).
After several bursts of heel like behaviour (which will likely continue at the Royal Rumble, where other faces caught in McIntyre’s crosshairs like Uso, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods will be eliminated by the Scotsman), McIntyre will finally crack after the Elimination Chamber, where upon being eliminated by Orton, McIntyre will attack Rhodes and cost him the match, fighting against the officials to ultimately put Rhodes on the bench in kayfabe. Rhodes will recover by WrestleMania and be involved in the match, though I’m not sure who the victor would be.
The Street Profits hopeful Royal Rumble victory could also help set the scene for the WWE Women’s Championship match, that is if Charlotte Flair ends up defeating Iyo Sky at Crown Jewel. Member Montez Ford’s wife Bianca Belair has been a decorated champion and a popular character with fans since she debuted back in 2017, competing in the Mae Young Classic. However she has taken a break over the past few months, which will set up a return for the Women’s Royal Rumble. She’ll initially return as the enthusiastically confident face we all know and love, however following loses, she will start to fall under the influence of Ford, his teammate Angelo Dawkins & Lashley, which will lead her to attack Flair and challenge her at WrestleMania 40 for the WWE Women’s Championship.
Belair & Flair have been intense competition in the women’s division and fans have been clamouring to seeing the two facing off on The Grandest Stage Of Them All, especially since their last match together ended in a DQ win for Belair, which cost her a chance at the RAW Women’s Championship. The only way these days to seemingly face Flair in a match at WWE’s flagship event is if it’s for a title, whether Flair is defending or fighting for one and her potential victory at Crown Jewel would signify her 17th reign (Knowing how popular the Saudi Arabian event is with WWE Legends & Flair’s own admission she wants her father Ric to be there when she surpasses his 16 title reigns, sadly the writing seems on the wall for Sky’s reign). Belair also has a reputation to fight for, as she has been undefeated at WrestleMania in singles competition since her debut at WrestleMania 37, her fourth victory coinciding with her fourth title reign in WWE is too good of a coincidence to pass up on.
Now on the other hand, let’s discuss what could happen if The Judgement Day retains their titles, likely due to an assist from Uso & Sikoa. The battling over positions could still occur as usually WarGames matches are 5 on 5 and again, if Bálor or McDonagh are left out, the stories I’ve placed for them above would carry through here, although it would either lead to the titles either being split between brands: DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) for RAW & The OC (Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows) for SmackDown or the titles are left fused together, in which case I don’t know which team would be booked to win them. However the titles would eventually be lost due to McDonagh’s meddling, which leads to the World Heavyweight Champion Priest facing McDonagh in a championship match that also determines who stays in The Judgement Day, which I think Priest should win, but the result could still be up in the air if Hunter books it. If Priest wins & McDonagh is expelled, Bálor will be racked with pain for months leading to him leaving the group and turning face with McDonagh down the line.
HOWEVER with Roman Reigns returning on the Season Premiere of SmackDown this coming Friday, there could be a chance he rips up the alliance between the two, which could lead to Ripley taking the fifth spot (wouldn’t be the first time she fought the men), in which case the last member of Team Cody will be Orton, as the urge the audience has to see Ripley be hit with an RKO has frothed and bubbled over the course of a year). In this case, following Reign’s defence at Crown Jewel against AJ Styles, he’ll probably take Jimmy Uso to task for his subtle imitation of him and punish him with a brutal title match to close out the PLE, Reigns would obviously retain, but it will end off with a scathing promo which is interrupted by a returning CM Punk, setting the stage between both men.
TL;DR: Damian Priest & Finn Bálor vs Cody Rhodes & Jey Uso for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships has the potential to shake up WWE in such a way, it makes up for Fastlane’s lackluster build.

Note
It was definitely NWSL after dark for Bay vs Reign match lol
Week 4, Thorns and LV are teams with no win while KC, Pride and LV are teams that haven't lost yet. Thorns in last place on the table 💀
Hot take maybe but the Reign have got to be the most boring team this year, like I keep forgetting about them completely.

Note
thoughts on reign vs portland?
This is more pre-season thoughts in general instead of specifically Reign/Thorns thoughts.
• Jordyn Huitema, Bethany Balcer and Alana Cook are going to have an insane year this year. Book it.
• I love Emily Sonnett on this team. Like, I *really* love Emily Sonnett on this team.
• Watching them, even in pre-season, you can just tell how hungry this team is. The OL Reign Revenge Tour™️ is about to go absolutely stupid. 🤩

yeah this ‘rivalry’ is pretty bland, both teams are still too new for there to really be anything there. Plus angel city are down in 10th atm whilst san diego are in 1st + acfc did fire their coach the other day. Reign vs Thorns is a much better rivalry and has way more passion involved.
yeah that’s a good point and probably explains why the crowd is a bit dead too despite the decent looking numbers! maybe i’ll have to check out some of the more “established” teams sometime but this game definitely isn’t a good ad for the league for a first time watcher

I saw you earlier post about the USWNT vs IRL gane and from that I'm making the assumption that you know something about soccer/football teams. With that in mind, what do you think are the girls' favorite clubs?
I got this ask forever ago and again I am so sorry to say I only really know the clubs of the american women's league the NWSL so here's my breakdown on who likes what
Ava likes the Portland Thorns because 1) enjoys winning so she can brag abt it to her gf 2) thinks the team logo is cool. there was so little thought put into her choice but she's probably the least into watching soccer (she prefers to play it herself)
Lilith likes Seattle Reign (but Bee, you say, it's OL Reign now!) (It will still forever be Seattle Reign in my heart) because her dad was a Lyon's fan when he was alive and the Reign are owned by OL now so it's the closest thing she has to his team
Beatrice likes Angel City. yes it started as a goof based on nun things but then she just genuinely became a fan
Camila likes KC Current because I had to make one of these girls like My Team so Camila gets the honor of stanning my real life sports blorbos

Wrestle Kingdom 17 preview
Tumblr media
Jay White vs. Kazuchika Okada - White is the fifth IWGP world champion, making his third defense since winning the title from Okada on June 12. Okada won the G1 Climax tournament to earn this rematch.
Okada recruited White into his CHAOS faction in 2018, but within a few months White betrayed him and took over Bullet Club. Since then, White has been a thorn in Okada's side that he can't quite remove. For all his accolades and accomplishments, Okada is 1-4 against White in one-on-one matches, and White is the kind of pecker that will remind you at every opportunity.
I'm not counting on seeing the best match either of these guys can deliver. White's performances at Wrestle Kingdom in 2020 and 2021 were effective for getting heel heat but nearly put me to sleep with all the stalling and shenanigans. I though the June 12 match was better, but the bottom line is I've seen this match five times already and I don't feel like there's anything new to cover.
It's basic Booking 101 to have the top babyface beat the top heel to regain the world title to close the biggest show of the year. Of course, that simple logic has burned me before when it comes to Jay White--that 4-1 record against Okada says it all. It's almost unthinkable that a non-Japanese wrestler (especially a heel) could win in the main event at Wrestle Kingdom. But White's career is full of moments where I didn't think they'd go there but they did anyway. If nothing else, they've got me believing he doesn't have to lose, which is good enough. I always bet on Okada, but I wouldn't bet the farm this time.
Will Ospreay vs. Kenny Omega - This is Ospreay's fifth defense of the IWGP United States title. Omega is making his first appearance in New Japan since leaving the promotion in January 2019 to become an executive vice-president in AEW. Since then Ospreay has been staking his claim to being Omega's replacement as the top gaijin in the promotion. Needless to say, a lot has changed since their previous singles encounter, at a PWG show in 2015.
Both men started planting seeds for this back in the summer, with passive-aggressive comments and T-shirts and what-not. They finally squared off in October, in an AEW trios match; after Omega's team won, Ospreay's team laid them out in a vicious beatdown.
In theory the hype for this match is supposed to be two of this generation's best in-ring workers tearing it up on the big stage. In practice, all the buzz is just about Omega returning to New Japan, and the Kota Ibushi shirt he was wearing last week in AEW. I get where people want another chapter in the Golden Lovers saga, but Omega has been constantly throwing out teases for that for years, so no one hint can give us a timetable for when it'll go down.
In most promotions I think a returning megastar has to win his first match back, 99 times out of a hundred. In New Japan, I'm not as confident. They're comfortable telling stories where a guy loses his return match, to illustrate that he's not quite warmed up yet, or that he hasn't acclimated to facing the best in the world again. On the other hand, Ospreay's US title reign feels like it's run its course, and we're probably due for a new champion. Moving the belt to Omega would be a clear sign that he'll stick around for more NJPW dates, and I can see where the promotion wants to send that message loud and clear.
Taiji Ishimori vs. Hiromu Takahashi vs. El Desperado vs. Master Wato - This is a four-way for Ishimori's IWGP junior heavyweight title, so the first man to score a fall on any opponent will be the champion. Ishimori won the title from Desperado on May 11, and successfully defended it against Hiromu on June 12. KUSHIDA returned for a title chase, but that got derailed due to illness. Master Wato subbed for Kushida and pinned Ishimori in a non-title match on October 10. You'd expect this to set up a one-on-one rematch for the belt, but no one actually cares about Wato, so Despy and Hiromu interjected themselves, making it a four-way.
I assume the long-term direction is to get Kushida back in the title picture, but I don't know if it matters which guy is champion when that happens. The safe bet in a four-way title match is to pick the defending champion or the heel to retain. Ishimori is both, so it's looking good for him.
Keiji Mutoh & Hiroshi Tanahashi & Shota Umino vs. Tetsuya Naito & SANADA & BUSHI - Mutoh, who just turned 60, will be retiring on a NOAH show in February, so this is his final match in NJPW. Note that this is just his standard regular guy gimmick, as opposed to his Great Muta character, that made his final NJPW appearance a couple of months ago.
There isn't much of a story here for the other five guys in the match. Tanahashi, Naito, and Sanada ought to have something more important going on at Wrestle Kingdom, but they don't, so here they are. It's a great spot for Umino, however, as he's surrounded by bigger names and under a bigger spotlight for it. Bushi is lucky this match needed a sixth guy, or he'd be in the prelim battle royale.
Unless Mutoh is going to do the job on his way out, I would expect Tanahashi to pin Bushi to end this one.
Karl Anderson vs. Tama Tonga - Anderson won the NEVER openweight title from Tama on June 12, so this is the rematch, even though Anderson signed with WWE months ago. Anderson's WWE deal caused him to pull out of a title defense against Tonga's brother Hikuleo, which got rescheduled to December 14. Anderson beat Hikuleo and then got into it with Tonga, so here we are.
I have to think this is Anderson's last night in New Japan, and dropping the belt to Tama is merely a formality at this point. I sort of expected the same thing with the December 14 bout, but it makes sense for Anderson to want a Wrestle Kingdom payday if he can get it. So I'm picking Tonga to win, but if that doesn't happen I'll be real intrigued with whatever they have planned next.
Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Ren Narita - This is a tournament final to determine the first NJPW World television champion. (The name is a little confusing; the winner will not be the world TV champion of NJPW, but rather the TV champion of NJPW's streaming service, which is named NJPW World.) Per the rules of the new title, this match has a 15 minute time limit; it's not clear what happens to the belt if there's a time limit draw.
Narita is fresh off returning from his US excursion, and he's already scored a huge win against Tomohiro Ishii in this tournament. Beating Sabre in the Tokyo Dome for a new championship would establish him as a fast-rising superstar. But it's more plausible that New Japan will try to get him over with a tough loss so he can valiantly overcome the heartbreak.
Another wrinkle here is that this is Sabre's first match since his faction, Suzuki-gun, peacefully disbanded a couple of weeks ago. It's not clear yet what's next for the former members, but winning this TV title would be a big statement about Sabre's future. Something tells me that's the direction we're heading in here, and Sabre will win.
Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler vs. Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI - FTR (Dax and Cash) are the defending IWGP heavyweight tag team champions. Bishamon won the World Tag League tournament, which put them in line for this title shot. FTR have been on top of the world for most of the past year, but they're currently in a 0-4 slump that cost them the ROH and AAA tag team titles. The IWGP belts are the only gold they have left.
A title change seems inevitable. I'm sure New Japan liked having their tag title in a major US promotion for a few months, and FTR are thrilled to work the Tokyo Dome, but it's high time the belts come home. If FTR retains there's no telling when they'll be available for another title defense, and Goto and Yoshi are the strongest challengers available (at least until Tanga Loa returns to resume his team with Tama Tonga). I'm picking Bishamon to win, and the FTR losing streak to continue.
KAIRI vs. Tam Nakano - Kairi became the first IWGP women's champion on November 20; this is her first title defense. Western fans will know her best as Kairi Sane in WWE, where she held the NXT women's title. Nakano spent most of 2022 as the Wonder of Stardom champion (basically STARDOM's #2 singles belt), until she was defeated for it on December 29.
I don't have much info on Nakano except that New Japan's website says she has a kawaii aesthetic and an "intense predilection for violence," and she's promised "a special kind of hell" for Kairi here. Looking forward to that!
Obviously this match has been overshadowed by reports that Sasha Banks has exited WWE and will be at this show. If she's going to appear, the logical place to do it is after this match to challenge the winner. So it's a tough spot for these ladies, as most of the attention on this match will be people waiting just to find out if Banks will even be there. My guess is that Kairi will retain, and Kairi vs. Banks will be a big match down the line. But ideally, the layout of the match will keep us focused on the present, not the future.
Francesco Akira & TJP vs. Lio Rush & YOH - This is the first match on the main card, scheduled for 5pm JST (3am EST). Lio and Yoh won the Super Jr. Tag League tournament, putting them next in line for Catch 2/2's IWGP junior tag team championship. Yoh has been in this high pressure situation before with his ex-partner SHO, but he's only been teaming with Rush for a couple of months. Catch 2/2, on the other hand, have been teaming since Akira joined NJPW in June.
I could see this one going either way, but I'm leaning a bit towards doing a title change. There's a lot of storyline potential in having Yoh emerge from the Roppongi 3K breakup with a successful new team, while Sho has little to show for his betrayal.
Tatsumi Fujinami & Minoru Suzuki & Tiger Mask vs. Yuji Nagata & Satoshi Kojima & Togi Makabe - This is the Antonio Inoki memorial match, to honor the founder of New Japan, who passed away in October. It'll air before the main show at 4:20pm JST (2:20am EST).
Fujinami (68) was a teenager when he joined his trainer Inoki in leaving the JWA to start a new promotion. Suzuki (54) trained in New Japan's dojo in the 1980s, and wrestled Inoki as a young boy in 1989. Another key Inoki protege was Satoru Sayama (65), who became the original Tiger Mask in 1981; Yoshihiro Yamazaki (52), the fourth Tiger, appears here in his honor. Nagata (54), Kojima (52), and Makabe (50) were all around in the 1990s as Inoki's in-ring career drew to a close.
Aside from seeing the old-timers fight to commemorate Inoki, the most interesting thing going on here is long-time scoundrel Suzuki teaming with good guys like Fujinami and Tiger Mask. After the Suzuki-gun breakup, I'm curious if he'll settle into tag matches with the older guys in the undercard, or if he'll still be a giant dick and pick fights with everybody. I doubt we'll get a clear sense of that here, since the main idea will be to pay respects to Inoki. For similar reasons, I don't think it'll make much difference who wins the match.
New Japan Ranbo - This is a gauntlet battle royale billed as a "KOPW 2023 qualifier." Two men will start the match, and the remaining participants will enter one-by-one in timed intervals. Elimination can occur at any time via pinfall, submission, or exiting the ring over the top rope to the floor. The match ends once all but four participants have been eliminated; these finalists advance to a match on January 5 for the KOPW title belt.
No participants have been announced for the match, but I think we can assume any NJPW regular that isn't already booked could be in this. The biggest names to look for would be Shingo Takagi, EVIL, Tomohiro Ishii, Taichi, Jeff Cobb, Toru Yano, Juice Robinson, David Finlay, Kushida, Sho, and Kenta. Obviously there are many more wrestlers available, depending on whether they're in town that day, but you get the idea.
I assume someone halfway important will win the KOPW belt, but the other three finalists can be literally anyone, so this match is hard to predict. It's also hard to watch; New Japan's ranbos never seem as well planned or produced as WWE's Royal Rumble.
Ryohei Oiwa vs. Boltin Oleg - This is a three-minute exhibition match, scheduled for 3:20pm JST (1:20am EST), so I'm not even sure it will be broadcast on the live stream. Oiwa is currently a Young Lion who jobs in prelim matches during his training. Oleg is a standout amateur wrestler from Kazakhstan that New Japan made a big deal about recruiting a few months ago. So I guess this is meant as a showcase for Oleg, but the format makes it seem like they aren't sure he's ready for a full-fledged pro wrestling match. It's possible this will just go to the time limit, but I assume the point is for Oleg to win.

The Blooming Business of Botanical Ingredients: More than Just a Green Trend
Exploring the Lush Landscape of the Global Botanical Ingredients Market
Tumblr media
The Growth Spurt:
Picture this: from a humble USD 164.4 billion in 2022, the global botanical ingredients market is gearing up to flex its green muscles at a whopping USD 299.71 billion by 2031. That’s a growth rate of 6.90%, making even the most ambitious house plants jealous. So, what’s fueling this exponential growth? Let’s dive into the fertile soil of reasons.
Health, Wellness, and the Quest for the Perfect Smoothie:
In a world where wellness is the new black, it’s no surprise that the demand for botanical ingredients is skyrocketing. With consumers on a perpetual hunt for the elixir of life (or at least a decent antioxidant), these green wonders are finding their way into functional foods, dietary supplements, skincare potions, herbal medicines, and probably your neighbor’s green smoothie. It turns out, plants are not just for Instagram aesthetics; they’re also great for your insides.
Powder, Liquid, and the Battle of the States:
In this botanical battleground, the powder form reigns supreme. Versatile, easy to handle, and a favorite among cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals, powders are basically the royalty of botanical ingredients. Meanwhile, liquid botanicals are the rebels with a cause — quick absorption, versatile applications, and a knack for being the cool kids in the beverage and skincare industry. It’s a tug of war between the powdered monarchy and the liquid revolution.
Spices, Herbs, and a Dash of Cultural Richness:
In the plant kingdom, spices wear the crown, ruling with their strong aroma and medicinal prowess. Used for flavoring, coloring, and preserving food, spices are the rockstars of the botanical world. However, don’t underestimate the herbs, the rising stars of the market. With their health benefits and growing popularity in herbal teas, skincare products, and dietary supplements, herbs are the underdogs giving spices a run for their money.

North America vs. Asia-Pacific — The Battle of the Green Giants:
In this epic showdown, North America holds the crown, thanks to rising awareness and a penchant for plant-based products. However, don’t count out the Asia-Pacific region, with India, Japan, and China leading the charge. Their rich herbal traditions, demand for natural ingredients, and a dash of cultural heritage have catapulted them into the fastest-growing market segment. It seems the East is truly meeting the West in the botanical battleground.
The Forces Shaping the Botanical Battlefield:
Health and Wellness Awareness: The world’s waking up to the importance of health, and botanical ingredients are the superheroes in this narrative. Anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunity-boosting — these are the Avengers of the natural product world.
Demand for Natural and Organic Products: The era of synthetic ingredients is waning. The cool kids on the block want natural and organic, and botanical ingredients are here to deliver. Whether it’s cosmetics, healthcare, or food, the demand for natural products is driving the botanical boom.
The Thorny Issues:
Amidst the green euphoria, there are a few thorns in the botanical garden:
Regulatory and Quality Control Challenges: Navigating the regulatory maze can be trickier than finding a needle in a haystack. Differing standards across nations and regions can leave manufacturers scratching their heads and checking labels like confused botanists.
Supply Chain Complexity and Sourcing Woes: Harvesting, processing, and sourcing botanicals require a delicate touch. Throw in regional limitations, climate change, and environmental concerns, and you’ve got a recipe for supply chain chaos.
The Battle of the Brands:
In this fierce competition, giants like Naturex, Givaudan, and Ransom Naturals are duking it out for supremacy. The secret sauce? Rigorous R&D, global distribution channels, and a dash of sustainability. But it’s not just the big shots; startups are joining the fray, armed with organic certifications and a commitment to sustainability. The fight for the botanical throne is getting intense, and consumers are the ultimate judges.
Recent Developments — Not Just Your Average Cup of Tea:
From Nestlé’s botanical baby foods to Johnson & Johnson’s cosmetic concoctions, it seems everyone wants a piece of the botanical pie. Even Coca-Cola is jumping on the green bandwagon with a new beverage line. Herbalife Nutrition is also in the mix, promising supplements made from botanical goodness. It’s like a botanical renaissance, and we’re all invited.
Key Market Trends — It’s More than a Fad, It’s a Lifestyle:
Functional Plant-Based Ingredients: Move over, synthetic additives; it’s time for plants to shine. Consumers are craving functional ingredients that boost health, and botanicals fit the bill. From functional beverages to dietary supplements, it’s a green revolution.
Organic and Natural Products: The world’s gone au naturel, and the botanical ingredients market is basking in the spotlight. Cosmetics, food, and pharmaceuticals are clamoring for these natural wonders as consumers become more conscious of what they put on and in their bodies.
In Conclusion — Where the Green Road Leads:
As the demand for clean label products rises, botanical ingredients are taking center stage. With consumers shifting to preventive health approaches and an increasing focus on holistic wellness, the botanical ingredients market is set to flourish. It’s not just a trend; it’s a lifestyle, and the global botanical ingredients market is here to stay.
So, next time you sip your herbal tea or apply that anti-aging lotion, remember — you’re not just following a trend; you’re part of the green revolution. Embrace the botanical goodness, and let the plants guide you to a healthier, more vibrant future.
