genuine question but is there any fandom where a character is well written by the majority. im thinking about fandom culture and the spread of frustration when people dont write characters well but. honestly in all the fandoms ive been in there's only like, a Select number of authors who i trust to write Well, let alone write Well AND In Character. character analysis and writing and getting inside characters' heads are all separate skills (all of which are trained by roleplaying fyi can CONFIRM playing pretend with your friends is good for you). there's been more than once where I've disagreed with an interpretation that others agreed with, and then I turned out wrong. or i turned out right. like it doesnt matter WHO is right it just matters that differences in character analysis exist, so even if you DO write well AND write in character, your in character is still going to be someone else's out of character
there's this sort of. vibe. that to play in the sandbox you Need to be able to make a castle, and if you can't make a castle then you shouldn't bother, and it completely dismisses the idea that youre in that sandbox to PLAY in the first place. there's this Weight of disappointing someone if you can't build something that they like, but that forgets that you aren't there to build them a castle. like, be KIND. if you disagree with someone then please make an effort to do so kindly. i dont give a shit about fandom discourse but there is a reason kids get removed from sandboxes if they keep throwing sand in people's eyes. but if they don't like your misshapen sand pile, then youre not obligated to change it. even if you yourself end up hating that same sand pile later- youre not building a legacy. youre playing. and sometimes the result of that play is out of character drivel. theres a reason there are so many authors and so few who i like to consistently read and thats because everyone is Fucking Around in their hobby space.
hash tag brag or whatever but i can build castles. ive built several that im v proud of. ive also dug holes in the sand for fun and then tripped on them when trying to get up. I often dug a hole and then got up and fucking- whoops, its a castle now, and i didn't realize i'd made something to be proud of until after the fact. the whole time while creating shit i was Convinced it was bullshit that didn't make sense. and then other times i was Convinced it was bullshit and then i was Right and i can look back and go. huh. ew. but it doesn't matter what the end result was, because i had fun playing in the sandbox
this wasn't meant to turn into a ramble but i have Feelings about bad art and art that's badly perceived and how public perception can screw with your head and how making art youre proud of is fucking. it's so difficult!!! it's hard!! it's really fun, which is why i try to make it, but i promise you it is Okay to not tryhard creativity. even if you CAN, it's okay not to do it all the time. or ever, even. fuck around find out have fun etc

General Decrease in Social Media Interaction, Not Just Reblog to Like Ratios
I see posts about reblog to like ratio all the time, and I 100% agree that the reblog to like ratio on Tumblr has significantly decreased over the decade...
But I feel like it really isn't just Tumblr- it's social media in general. The same problem is on DeviantART with view to favorite to comment ratios... with comments equating to a reblog (or "interaction")
Take popular DA artist Griffsnuff. Sampling 20 random images from 2023, 2015, and 2010 and noting their averaged comment count:
(rounded up)
2010: 208
2015: 44 (78% decrease from 2010)
2023: 11 (75% decrease from 2015, 94% decrease from 2010)
Taking someone less popular but who recalls an avid community growing up- me:
2010: 3
2015: 0.75 (75% decrease from 2010)
2023: 0.7 (90% decrease from 2015, 76% decrease from 2010)
These are only two examples, but between a super popular DA artist and a nobody, there's a pretty consistent 75%-78% drop in interaction rate between 2010 and 2015, with another sharp decrease 7 years after that.
With Tumblr's reblog to like ratio also sharply dropping, it's possible the same can be said for other social sites, that "passive" interaction (liking/thumbs up/hearting) has overtaken "active" interaction (commenting/sharing/reblogging). An exception is possibly TikTok with its remixing feature which works, in a way, as a transformative response to the original content, and is baked into the app's culture... but I don't know what remix-to-like ratio it has, and TikTok doesn't exactly have videos from 2010 to reference for a then-and-now comparison.
Regardless, this kind of insane decrease in active interaction warrants more serious study from academics as a social phenomenom, to assess how legitimate it is and hypothesize the reasons (the algorithm? culture? attention span? over stimulation? marketing?) Because an artist like griffsnuff who is more popular than ever at 98k watchers and 13M views having a 94% decrease in comment rates after 13 years sounds... fake. Shouldn't interaction be going up...?
If someone at 98k can't even keep consistent interaction how does anyone with a smaller audience expect to get any? (No wonder why even at 870 followers on Tumblr, 65 on DA, and 95 on Twitter I see squat come from it)

I'm begging you people.
I allow to use my art, if you credit me.
Just credit me, you don't have to ask if you can use it (it's nice and I really appreciate when people do that tho!), so if you don't want to ask, or something, it's really fine. You can just use it, but just put somewhere "credits to GuakamoleBoi" or something, it's literally bare minimum.

The worst thing about my brain being an autopilot grammar nazi is that every single time I see people misuse “it’s” and “its” as well as apostrophe placements is that I don’t want to be rude and correct people... but my brain still is like UGH THIS IS THE WORST.
“It’s” and “Its” are more just my brain going weeo weeo on me when that’s a more understandable one bc “its” is literally the exception to a rule (because “it’s” actually means “it is”, so to avoid it being used for two meanings the apostrophe is removed for ownership cases), but when I see apostrophes before an S for plural wording and I know they speak English properly I’m just like. ugh. damn. bruh. please. go back to school.
Less severe cases of incorrect apostrophe use tends to be like, when people are playing Heroes and have duplicates of units and are like “my Ike’s” instead of “my Ikes”, because I think people are trying to... make it more clear that it’s referring to more than one? I think? Maybe? Or they literally just don’t realize it’s incorrect grammar, idk lol. Still can’t get past my weeo weeo autopilot brain though sadly.
LIKE. IT’S NOT ANYONE’S FAULT THAT MY BRAIN IS WEEO WEEO, IT JUST IS.
Which speaking of Heroes, FE in general seems to have its script in every single game ever coded to always use apostrophes for ownership cases even when the word ends in S, so don’t worry folks. IntSys isn’t getting off scot free from my brain either LOL. No amount of “princess’s” is ever gonna fly with my weeo weeo brain.
this has been a psa
mainly a psa of my brain weeo weeos

Today was the second time someone congratulated me once they saw the ring my girlfriend sent to me.
I wear it on my middle finger since it kept slipping of my ringfinger due to weight loss, but I still find it amazing how happy people are for me, when they assume I got married.
"May you and the one you married continue being lucky and happy!"
"Lovely ring, congratulations."
And the funniest thing is, I always go "Thank you! :D" and it takes a few minutes after the interaction for it to click what they were congratulating me for.
I can't wait for the day when I can beam and just go "Thank you, me and my wife love eachother very much!"
Though with how words are over here, I might just end up saying or clarifying "Partnerka" if they get confused. XD
But ahhhhh. When that day comes.💕

If I could just like, Append an Extra Note to that one fantasy racism post I made that blew up that would just show up every time someone goes to add a comment, it would say two things:
“I don’t care if you personally enjoy different tropes, have a good time my guy, please don’t @ me about how you think racism is an important thing to include in *my* writing or game”
and
“I know what a goddamn Kender is. There’s a difference between;
‘Hey, what if the concept of property isn’t as universal as we’re used to, and how would that affect the people in this world and their relationships with their neighbors’ and;
‘Haha funny ADHD Kleptomaniac Hobbits who compulsively lie about their Kleptomania even when caught red-handed’“
