I don't understand why people call John Marston stupid. He isn't dumb, he's barely functioning day to day and it's not HIS fault that whacky shit keeps happening to him. How would YOU react if your family turned into zombies after just going through like a billion Herculean trials to get them back???? What if Phee telling Jin all of those was part of the plan? I mean, he did get a confirmation that Jin did something wrong to Non and I'll say this here again, Phee's face when Jin confessed was just different. It felt like someone trying to contain anger so they wouldn't lash out. Even the way he used the axe to "mark" the spot to be able to tell if they're going in circles or not felt very sus as well. Like he may be trying to make Jin think that he's trying to get them both out of there.

Lastly, the way he so conveniently dropped the axe and forgot it's existence when they got to the house. Like, he's expecting someone else to maybe pick it up later and wield it.

He did say they bugged the place so they know everything that happens in the house. Could he be buying Tan/New some more time before bringing Jin over to hear Tee's final reveal of what happened to Non?

It's also interesting how Tan/New looked like he was taking cover behind Phee when all the commotion with Fluke happened. It didn't feel like something a betrayed person would do. Or he could've just really tried to hide behind the nearest person available, I guess.

so i was watching back Daigo's cutscenes (up to yakuza 4 i havent played y5 yet) and one thing i noticed is that although he acted aggressive sometimes (especially in kiwami 2 before he was tamed) his voice would always remain weirdly calm even though he shouted, it was like he was yelling in lowercase.

but the first time we heard his voice really break and shake and REALLY scream was in the....Mine rooftop scene...as he screamed his name before he fell....

Do you think there s any parallels to Brutus and Cleopatra, after they each have to bury Cassius and Mark Anthony?

oh for sure! I've written a little about the narrative comparisons between the two pairs with regards to HBO Rome.

I have less thoughts about antony and cleopatra in a historical kind of way, but it is interesting that they're like. a decayed narrative parallel to brutus and cassius in the greater theater of history (ends of an era). cassius and antony (gladiators, baby!) both commit suicide, but antony's suicide gets real fucked up: he's straight up denied a clean end to his own life. on the other hand, cleopatra and brutus are such hard opposites to each other, both in politic and reception, that it's difficult to find themes that work for them both the way that antony and cassius have, without discussing much broader subjects like transitional time periods.

but in a way. cleopatra and antony also fulfill the statesman-gladiator pairing. so. there might be something there.

#i have less thoughts about antony and cleopatra historically bc i find the focus on their doomed romance tragedy arc tedious at best #there is. a historical pair that i think brutus and cassius have a strong parallel to and i wrote it down somewhere.
