So I came upon the realization that the Three Wise Warriors (my OCs) would fit so well in a cross-over episode with the turtles, and uh
It's the silliest thing, but I love it

Hear no evil. Speak no evil. See no evil.
Alnitak, Alnilam, and Mintaka!
They're the Descendants in the Isle of Dawn. Three friends that appear to be young men that are the self-proclaimed welcome committee of the isle. They all look up to Betelgeuse highly as a senior.
They are named after the three stars in the Orion Belt, and are themed after the three wise monkeys. Also, all of them are fluent in sign language!
(More about them under the cut!)

Alnitak - "Hear no evil"
Alnitak is the most vocal of the group. He seems like a mischievous troublemaker, and he may talk bluntly, but he's actually pretty sweet. Sometimes he could be tactless but he almost always means well unless he thinks someone deserves the flak. Give him a ball of yarn and he's bound to knit you a warm sweater to cuddle in during the cold days.

Tumblr media
Alnilam - "Speak no evil"
Alnilam seems to be the voice of reason of the group. He is hard of hearing and mute, so he mostly communicates via sign language. He can't produce honking sounds on his own, so he uses his own personal instrument to alert/detect other sky kids. He may seem intimidating at first since he appears serious, but he's kind! He's always up to lend a helping hand to those who need it.
.·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ . .·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ . .·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ .
Tumblr media
Mintaka - "See no evil"
Mintaka is the quietest and shyest of the group. He often prefers to be on his own, but seemed to feel comfortable with his friends, Alnilam and Alnitak. He often appears aloof; unbeknownst to him, he has more than a few admirers from afar. Among the three, he's the first one to befriend Saiph because he's rather soft-spoken like a calm Rigel.
.·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ . .·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ . .·͙*̩̩͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩̥͙ ✩ *̩̩̥͙˚̩̥̩̥*̩̩͙‧͙ .

It's a little weird dipping back into Riverdale, but I rediscovered how much fun it is writing this fic. I also wanted to see how the mood board turned out.
chapter ten: speak no evil IV
“Oh, my goodness, go back to the dorms, Jug,” Betty urges, patting his cheek. “You’re dead on your feet.”
“I couldn’t if I tried,” he admits, yawning into her palm. He doesn’t say he is too afraid to try. The card is burning a hole through his chest pocket. He isn’t sure how much time he has to complete the quest, what happens if he fails.
Betty sighs but doesn’t push him further. Giving him a break from transcribing, she takes a seat at the drafting table and begins working on the layout, aligning her article on the front page.
He appreciates this about Betty. She communicates that she cares through words, subtle actions, but she doesn’t pressure him with it. Toni would pick up his shit and toss it out the door to get him to leave and take care of himself. It was abrasively kind, but Jughead prefers Betty’s method.
“How about an exchange to keep me awake?” he suggests, throwing his feet up on the desk with his notepad in his lap.
“Of?” she prompts, her gaze focused on the layout.
“Information.”

fuck it im going a lil insane for mandela catalyst,,,,,
ramblings + technical spoilers under the cut
so i was thinking like. i may be a lil biased from my au but the remaining human main characters are kinda resembling the three wise monkeys (i will explain their names that i mention at the end bc i'm a language nerd for japanese)
i personally hc evelin to become the next mandela prophet due to her being under dave's "guidance" aka working for him at mandelatech, so i think she'd start getting visions and stuff. in her case, she'd be mizaru, or see no evil. i also assigned her to mizaru because i just realized she is in the same position in the vol 4 teaser to the image of the three wise monkeys, where the first monkey is see no evil. she even went to go see adam after sarah had texted her, only believing things with her own eyes.
which leads me to the next monkey in the middle of the image, kikazaru, or hear no evil. alt thatcher was in their place on the teaser (which literally EVERYONE INCLUDING ME was real thatcher when it first came out... in which my drawing that i made before its release accidentally predicted that DFVGBHNJM), so thatcher will be the one to take this one. the fact that he's now hearing words from gabriel really sends this home for me tbh.
and finally, speak no evil. dave was originally in the place of iwazaru, or speak no evil, but since he's. well, yknow DEAD, sarah will have to take his place. mainly due to her (possibly) not being honest about adam's current state, and while i dont think she knows about the whole "he's an alt" situation, i do believe she's denying the thought that her somewhat friend would be in danger, trying to mask it as her not actually caring for him.
however, i am adding "be no evil" bc why tf not even though it's not part of the original concept, but this one DEEEFINITELY goes to adam. he's realized that he's literally technically on the side of evil (being an alt and whatnot), but he chooses not to be. he chooses to be no evil, at least from what we can see from him basically suffering in mandela catalyst.
ok now for the name explanations: mizaru is derived from the verb 見る (miru/to see) conjugated into its negative form, 見ない (minai/not see), and the literal word for monkey, さる/saru (also written as 猿). the "s" changes to a "z" due to being put next to another kanji (though this is my assumption based on what i've seen with other kanji). same happens with the other two names, kikazaru derived from from 聞く (kiku/to listen) conjugated to 聞かない (kikanai/not listen) and slapping さる and iwazaru derived from 言う (iu/to say) conjugated to 言わない (iwanai/not listen) and slapping さる. idk i just think it's so cool how the names got put together :D
the full phrase in japanese would be 見ざる聞かざる言わざる (also written as 見猿聞か猿言わ猿), which would just be all their names put together. the three wise monkeys symbolize turning a blind eye to things, with these three methods being the ways we do it.
however, in the context of tmc, seeing, hearing, and speaking no evil would not be turning a blind eye to the alternates' efforts but looking towards them to stop it.
if anyone has ANY questions i will be happy to answer to the best of my ability! :DDD

today on Nova Shares What Knowledge He's Gained from Learning about Pokémon out of Spite : Infernape isnt the only monkey themed pokémon with Chinese religion as an inspiration! Simipour, Simisage, and Simisear are based on the Three Wise Monkeys (🙈🙊🙉), which is why Simipour's eyes are closed, Simisage's mouth is open, and Simisear appears to be using sign language
Edit : @automaticsentinel added in the notes that Simisear's ears are notably different from Simisage and Simipour's, as well as the fact that Simisage's mouth is no longer open after evolving from Pansage :)

No Hear, No Speak, and See No Evil 🙉 🙊🙈
No Hear, No Speak, and See No Evil 🙉 🙊🙈 #Wisdom #Character #ThreeWiseMonkeys
Image Credit: Paul Brennan Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil, See No Evil  While we try to practice this mantra, I think about how difficult it is for people to actually implement this into their lives, let alone daily. The three wise monkeys are a Japanese pictorial maxim, embodying the proverbial principle “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil”. The three monkeys are Mizaru (見ざる), who sees no…

Speak No Evil
He raised his hand in class, something he’s not likely to do.  He hates being the center of attention. It makes him nervous.  He might tic. That makes him feel embarrassed. Which makes him more nervous.  Which makes him tic more.  Viscous cycle.  Best to keep his hand down.  He raised it this time. She called on him.  He began to answer the question. He started answering it wrong.  She cut him…
