Email
To: y/n.l/npr.email.com CC: Logan.sargeantpr.email.com
To whom it may concern,
We would like to invite the two of you to come to Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy for a few days of testing. I personally cannot confirm a seat for the 2024 season, but we've have our eyes on the two of you since early spring.
Please let us know by the end of the week if either of you are interested. We are in need of time if everything goes well. If it does, and the two of you would like to join the Royal Automobili Lamborghini-Andretti Formula 1 team, contracts could be signed as early as next week.
My sister Marissa will be in touch for a check-in if these emails weren't correct.
She says that you both need a Reputations Era, or whatever that means.
I personally look forward to hearing back from the two of you. Have a blessed day.
Team Principal Michael Andretti

There were so-called "Approved For The Female Sex" V-cards too, though Mina would probably have to teach that it may be seen as too bold for the girl to send one, still. But she may have been all "I'm not a hypocrite but..." again like when she allowed Jonathan to hold her arm (a man offering his arm to the of-age lady he's escorting was encouraged, but not the other way around), and made a card for him herself.
I should have a card-specific response to this but I kind of just blindsided myself with an entirely different revelation and it's staggered me:
Jonathan Harker is the Romantic Corruptor Villain Hero of Dracula.
I'm serious. Think about how many times in the novel Mina goes out of her way to mention propriety, or 'not like other girls New Women'-ing herself and Lucy, or otherwise tries to wave the flag of what a good and proper and Worthwhile immigrant orphan working woman young lady she is? Very often. She slips it in over the first two thirds of the book, really.
But in Jonathan's presence, or for Jonathan's sake, she breaks those rules like they're pretzel sticks.
Oh, she should think less of him because he was ill and suffers PTSD anxiety attacks? She shouldn't let him take her arm in public? She shouldn't aspire to be equals with him no matter how much he seems thrilled and eager for them to be on par with each other? She shouldn't take the lead despite how willing he is to follow and support her? She shouldn't be interested in such a soft and non-conforming sweetheart and should look for a Generic Manly Man instead?
Hm, thinks Mina. She makes eye contact with Jonathan for 0.0000001 seconds.
Jonathan: 🥰
Mina, literal etiquette teacher who has lived her whole young life having harsh lessons ground into her by the bootheel of her era and surroundings to be Proper and Pious and Perfect and Follow All Social Norms: Fuck propriety actually 🥰
Which is all to say, making a Valentine card for Jonathan despite it being outside the norm for girls is the teeniest tiniest act of rebellion Jonathan Harker's...Jonathanness (?) has spurred her into. And it is objectively hilarious to me how, in the context of the time period, Jonathan Harker could be seen as an actual corruptive influence to a young woman, eeevilly seducing her into un-meek un-maidenlike behavior!
The rake! The cad! Lucifer himself beguiling a poor ignorant Eve into wanting rights and education and interests and autonomy and equality with her partner! True Men everywhere are borrowing their ladies' pearls to clutch as we speak. (While said ladies are fanning themselves and wondering where they might find a Jonathan Harker for themselves.)
Step aside, Count. The true wooing gothic horror liberator is here to seed dangerous ideas with his nefarious romantic wiles.*
*He is taking Mina to a New Woman gathering after the events in Transylvania and getting her literature on the topic that does not come straight from a Punch comic. The fiend.

do I know about welcome to dark fuck princess island yet... if not I would like to.
HAHA... welcome to dark fuck princess island is the amalgamation of stuff pruned from two other beefleaf fics, one being my big unpublished postcanon sqx fic and the other being the most recent one i posted, which was supposed to have a postcanon section to it that i had to cut due to a deadline that was going to come before i could finish writing it...
i have plans to do a sensitive, emotionally realistic character study of postcanon shi qingxuan that charts a believable beefleaf reconciliation arc while prioritizing sqx's agency and self-worth. that's the big one. this is the wretched idfic runoff of that other fic, which is superior in every way but makes you wait quite a bit longer for them to fuck nasty
to be more specific... my postcanon sqx fic originally had a real deep vein of gothic romance going on that i eventually realized was chafing super hard at the main thrust of the story, which has a pretty different tone and vibe to it. (it's obviously still a little bit gothic romance because it's a romance fic about getting back together with the ghost who killed your brother so you know.) so i took the stuff that was the most, like, lesbian phantom of the opera out of there and combined it with stuff that i cut from my most recent fic (which in case you haven't read it, is about them hooking up lesbianly during the long con era in a way where he xuan is power tripping hard via some non-negotiated d/s and verbal humiliation stuff. lol,). that cut stuff was about beefleaf reuniting postcanon in a mildly dubcon lesbian harlequin romance manner and having really ill-advised sex shortly afterwards, which is like, surely going to have negative implications for both of their mental health and well-being. but sqx is also experiencing a lot of intense emotions over the fact that the sex they're having is unambiguously lesbian in nature and it's really emotionally confusing and guilt-inducing that even though she's legitimately pretty scared of this person a) they both clearly still desire each other carnally despite everything and b) whatever else sqx may be feeling, she realizes that hx still "gets" her gender more than anyone else has or possibly ever will... she feels seen... :(
it's some kind of situation where sqx gets sick or injured in some way in their day to day life, wakes up at nether water manor having been benevolently kidnapped, and then proceeds to be a gothic fantasy ya novel heroine wandering around the haunted mansion she's not technically "imprisoned" within but also has no way to leave... also after the first interaction or two they have, which are just supremely awkward because they're both in the same place they were when Alla That happened and also in the same forms they were then, hx is female form-ing it up... this is really genuinely just trashy erotic horror, so sqx is like unpacking the implications of their now retrospectively dubcon dalliances past while finding herself thrilled and terrified to discover that it doesn't make her want hx any less... i think sqx has also been having gory horrific erotic dreams about hx intermittently over the past however-long-it's-been. and she feels really fucked up and stupid and embarrassing for not being over it.
but this is not like slow burn or anything so they DO have sex again way more quickly than they ought to and the vibes are super rancid but like, in a sexy way, like peak [ao3 tag voice] Consensual But It Shouldn't Be. "on god you two should never see each other again for your own good but it's too late now so you might as well give in to your dark passions" shit. the most embarrassing aspect of all of this is that i think it ends with some kind of impulsive shotgun elopement which, in my head at least, is modeled after this one corvosider fic i read 10 years ago that nonetheless left a BIG impact on my psyche
so. that's. that. LOL

From Apple Music: "In the 18 months after Taylor Swift released Midnights, it often felt as though the universe had fully opened up to her. The Eras Tour was breaking records and blowing past the billion-dollar mark; its attendant concert film became the highest-grossing of all time. She generated interest and commerce and headlines everywhere she stepped foot, from tour stops to the tunnels of NFL stadiums. In 2023, she was named both TIME magazine’s Person of the Year and—just as iconic, tbh—Apple Music’s Artist of the Year.
But do songs about that level of success speak to you? As the news broke that her highly private six-year relationship to Joe Alwyn had ended, Swifties started Swiftie-ing, quickly recirculating a clip on social media of Swift a few weeks earlier, onstage during an early Eras show, in tears as she sang “champagne problems”—a song she and Alwyn had written together. It was a reminder that, despite the superhero-like aura she now radiates, Swift, at her peak, still hurts like the rest of us. What sets her apart is her ability to sublimate that pain into pop. When she announced her 11th studio album in early 2024—while accepting another Grammy, as one does—we probably shouldn’t have been surprised.
“I needed to make it,” she’d say of THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT a few weeks later, to a crowd of—[rubs eyes]—96,000 in Melbourne, Australia. “I’ve never had an album where I’ve needed songwriting more than I needed it on TORTURED POETS.” Working again with trusted collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, she returns to the soft, comfortable, bed-like sonics of Midnights. But the stakes feel noticeably higher here: This isn’t so much a breakup album as it is a deep-sea exploration of everything Swift has been feeling, a plunge through emotional debris.
On “But Daddy I Love Him”—over strings and guitar that faintly recall her country roots—she lashes out at the crush of scrutiny and expectation she’s been subject to from the start. Naturally, catharsis comes after the chorus: “I’ll tell you something right now,” she sings. “I’d rather burn my whole life down than listen to one more second of all this bitching and moaning.” On “Florida!!!” she and Florence + the Machine team up for a pulpy escape fantasy wherein they Thelma and Louise their way down to the Sunshine State in hopes of starting over with new lives and identities: “Love left me like this,” they sing. “And I don’t want to exist.”
At turns hilarious and heartbreaking, TTPD is a study in extremes, Swift leaning into heightened emotions with heightened, hyperbolic, ALL-CAPS language and imagery—how we think when we’re drunk on love or flattened by its sudden disappearance. Note the dark humour she weaves through the Post Malone-enriched opener “Fortnight” (“Your wife waters flowers/I wanna kill her”). Or the thrilling self-deprecation of “Down Bad”, a foray into science fiction wherein Swift likens the warmth of a relationship to being abducted by love-bombing extraterrestrials—only to be left “naked and alone, in a field in my same old town.”
But this remains her most candid and unsparing work to date: As a listener, you frequently get the feeling that you’ve stumbled across emails she’d written but never sent, or into conversations you were never meant to hear. There’s a density and a specificity and a ferocity to her lyrical work here that makes 2012’s “All Too Well” feel sorta light by comparison. If you’re the kind of Swiftie who likes to live in the details, well, this one might be your Super Bowl. “You swore that you loved me, but where were the clues?” she asks on the devastating “So Long, London”, a high point. “I died on the altar waiting for the proof.” Alone at a piano on the haunting “loml”, she flips the script on someone who’d told her she was the love of their life, by telling them that they were the loss of hers: “I’ll still see it until I die.”
The story, as you likely know, doesn’t end there. We get a glimpse of new beginnings in “The Alchemy” (“This happens once every few lifetimes/These chemicals hit me like white wine”) and something like triumph in the montage-ready synths of “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart”, when Swift, shattered on the floor, “as the crowd was chanting, ‘More!’,” still finds the strength to deliver: “’Cause I’m a real tough kid and I can handle my shit.”
But we also get a sense of acceptance, of new-found perspective. On “Clara Bow”—named after a 1920s movie star who was able to survive the jump from silent film to sound—Swift reflects on the journey of a small-town girl made good, sung from the vantage of an industry obsessed with the next big thing. She zooms out and out and out until, in the album’s closing seconds, she’s singing about herself in the third person, in past tense, acknowledging that nothing is forever. “You look like Taylor Swift in this light, we’re loving it,” she sings. “You’ve got edge she never did/The future’s bright, dazzling.”
I'm not restricting or limiting her artistic potential or anything but I really think Taylor Swift's niche in genre is dream, folk or synth-pop. That ethereal soundscape goes well with her small-ranged voice and her lyrical style works best when it's telling stories about stuff that isn't even necessarily about her, but about someone or something.
It's her niche. Where she sounds her best. When she's at her best.
I like the fact that in this album she's not worried about singles because most of these songs are too long for radio play unless they have to cut them down, and we all know how she feels about that. It's an album meant to be an album. It's a proper concept album. She doesn't need to worry about singles anyway. She'll sell regardless.
It sounds bloody fantastic in lossless 24-bit 48kHz ALAC/FLAC.
She's done it again. Created a musical masterpiece.
Like we'd expect anything less from Taylor Swift.
"As a listener, you frequently get the feeling that you’ve stumbled across emails she’d written but never sent, or into conversations you were never meant to hear. There’s a density and a specificity and a ferocity to her lyrical work here that makes 2012’s “All Too Well” feel sorta light by comparison." Yeah, you do with every great songwriter. The difference is great songwriters that are actually the musical artists of what you're listening to don't often exist in the pop industry.
Taylor Swift takes up space in pop music because she demands it. Most people would scoff at it. Even call it egoic. I highly respect it because she brings to pop music the point of the music. Art - not just entertainment. There's a phrase I use: Art is meant for expression, not impression. And she provides and delivers both seamlessly within each other. That's why the space she demands, she deserves. Not just any pop artist can do that or have that mark in the pop industry because most of them don't even write their own fucking music.
So if you feel like you shouldn't be present when listening - you feel put out or uncomfortable in any way - that's how you know you're listening to a true and great songwriter because they all DO THIS.

"Dating Peter Tork Would Be Like..." [Scrapped]
[Teacher!Peter x Librarian!Black!Female!Reader Headcannon]
A/N: This was bound to happen eventually...just glad I was able to get this out of my system; WwaBRiM per usual and likes, comments, & reblogs are strongly encouraged(=
Era: Mid-70s (around the time Peter became a teacher)
Warnings: Mentions of fooling around, and light makeout stuff.
Tumblr media
Yeah, you knew who Peter Tork was....as did every young woman that came of age in the 60s and had a working television in the house.
Re-run episodes of The Monkees is what helped you get through your last year of college, and although you hate to admit it, you'll be forever grateful(:
Your love for sharing knowledge led you to get a Bachelor's in Education, but your spite of those around you saying that men don't like women that are "overachievers" got you your Master's in Library Science.
You have quite a few interests: you paint, sing, and play the guitar now and then, and read and write a lot of poetry and stories.
So, you took those skills and became a Librarian at a nice high school in the hills, and the job is very enjoyable, just as you would’ve expected it to be.
You expected there to be hundreds of things checked in and out per day and thousands per week, resulting in hours of restocking shelves and setting displays.
And you were expecting to have engaging conversations with students as they tell you about their recent reads, while you return the favor by giving them even more book recommendations to further expand their minds.
What you DID NOT expect when the new school year started, was for an oddly familiar man to approach your counter inquiring about an instructor’s copy of a textbook that he’d ordered for his science course.
And you’re still not sure if it was your slight gasp or starstruck demeanor over the random circumstances, but something made him chuckle at the situation while you spoke in disbelief, “Nooo, you can’t be”, “The only problem is, I am”.
Far off from his former band days, Peter grew his hair out much longer and sported a beard that you thought fit him very well. He also dropped his alias and went by his actual surname, Mr. Thorkelson. A subtle change that made a huge difference.
At first, you weren’t so sure that Peter could be that friendly a person, even bashful at times, but you learned early on that it was all genuine.
That was just the kind of person he was. On the job, Peter could talk to anyone and make friends with everyone.
But after a while, you noticed he went out of his way to make conversation with you…even though the library is nowhere en route to his classroom.
You two soon became good friends, bonding over various things from literature to your shared love for the folk music scene.
Whenever you had free time in your schedules, you’d be at each other’s respective workstations scribbling ideas on chalkboards or making pyramids out of lost library cards and bookmarks (that you’d return to the students that lost them immediately after).
Somedays you and Peter could even be found in the teacher’s lounge, sharing reviews of movies you’d watched in theaters that past weekend.
Your coworkers started calling you “two peas in a pod” and neither of you minded it…as a matter of fact, you were both kinda hoping the phrase spoke for itself.
There would be days when you’d set a big apple on his desk before he got to his classroom in the morning, and he’d return the gratitude by waiting until you were in the back of the library somewhere, ID-ing some publishers, before placing a folded paper crane on a short stack of books on your counter.
Of course, there was something there! But nobody said anything for fear of ruining the great friendship you both had cultivated for months.
But in the thrill of the moment, and contrary to Mr. Thorkelson’s belief, you took the liberty of making the first move…and at the Christmas faculty party of all places!
The event was off school grounds at a venue in the city. The night was young, and it was freeing to see your coworkers let loose outside of the professional box that working as educators placed them in.
Add in the fact there was an open bar and everyone was basically on cloud nine.
There were Secret Santa gifts and party games, and one of them was, of course, "Truth or Dare".
Salaries were exposed, shots were taken, relationships and teacher pregnancies were revealed…
But your new Library Assistant, with a suggestive amount of wine in their system, took the liberty of shooting Peter a truth question: "I saw you put a crane on (y/n)'s desk a week or so ago. Do you two have something going on?"
Your eyes shot up from the unopened Secret Santa gift you received just in time to witness Peter finish his old-fashioned, "With all the love and respect in the world, no. We do not."
Your co-workers gave lively reactions, and the game quickly moved ahead, but now the tension between you two became suddenly unavoidable.
Peter couldn't bring himself to look at you, let alone in your direction. He thought he messed up everything, by not saying something different. He felt like it set his relationship with you back by a long shot. How was he supposed to recover from that if he ever did find the balls to confess that he thought the world of you?
You, on the other hand, didn't think much of it….mostly. I mean, sure, you did like him….A LOT. But for the sake of professionalism, you figured that if it wasn't meant to be, then it wasn't meant to be.
The evening progressed and so did the party, but you figured you'd make your discreet leave and wave goodbye to a few close coworkers early.
You saved Peter's goodbye for last and gave him a warm embrace like usual along with a warm message, "Don't worry, okay? We're good! I'll see you back at The Hills after the break. Merry Christmas, Peter."
And off you went…….to the venue's unsupervised walk-in coat closet to retrieve yours. It took you a bit of sliding around coats on hangers to track it down but you finally were able to get a hold of it.
When you opened the closet door to exit, Peter was on the other side holding your Secret Santa gift you left behind.
You kinda just stood there? Mouth open and in shock, but the good kind. You even backed up a little bit, hoping that he would walk in.
And he did. Shutting the closet door behind him, Peter stepped forward, closing the gap as if he was just a short space away from you.
"You forgot this on the table and I didn't want you to leave without it." He smiled, handing the gift back to you as you handed your coat over for him to hold.
Unraveling the silver and gold wrapping paper, you couldn't help but rest your forehead against the gift and laugh: a hardcover copy of "Origami: The Art of Paper Folding" by Robert Harbin.
You were tickled because you KNEW it was Peter, and he couldn't help but smile at your infectious laugh.
"What? What's so funny?", "No, it's just this is so adorable! Did you plan this? Did you pull strings to be my Secret Santa?", "I didn't, I promise that was coincidental. I just figured since I was making so many of these and leaving them with you, I'd give you something so you can make your own.", "But I like when you make them for me!"
Your eyes were filled with such sincerity, and you were HOPING…that it would be enough for him to TAKE A HINT…..
You didn't wait. You kissed Peter, but he immediately followed suit, cupping your face as he leaned into it. The book slipped out of your hand as Peter grabbed your waist, backing you two into the wall as the line of hung coats surrounded you both.
The kissing intensified, and Peter dropped your coat to the floor as he unbuttoned his cotton henley shirt, never taking his lips off yours. You lost all sense of time. The closet got smaller and warmer by the minute, and frankly, you were feeling more aroused than you ever had in your life. And he sensed that, but he also respected you much more than just minimizing what you two share to a quick fuck in a stuffy coat closet at the faculty Christmas party.
So in the midst of you reaching to undo his belt buckle, he stopped you, fixed you both back up, retrieved his corduroy jacket, and kissed your forehead.
Gathering your things, you both left the party together, unnoticed, and hand in hand.
You two finished the evening by watching artists perform at a venue you randomly stumbled upon.
❣Dating Life❣
You and Peter becoming official made everything that you were already platonically doing regularly, feel a lot more special.
You still bother each other on school grounds, but now you enjoy one another off of school grounds as well! (In more ways than one)
Movie theaters, plays, concerts, farmers markets, and bookstores on the weekends. And you have sleepovers at either of your apartments.
You always love his place. It always feels cozy and nostalgic because of some things he has around from his days as a television star.
He'll lay his head in your lap in his living room conversation pit and share stories from the set, and you enjoy every moment of it. He plays his guitar or piano and you'll listen or sing along.
But you're convinced he loves your place more. He adores just how much "the essence of your apartment matches your personality" or whatever that means.
You'll admit, you have a lot of scholastic things lying around that gives away your identity as an educator, but your apartment holds much more than that!
He loves your collection of autobiographies, novels, and poetry books of Black authors, and finds joy in having you read passages written by esteemed artists of the Harlem Renaissance to him as he listens intently.
You'll cook together and sit on your couch watching sitcoms, music, and game shows.
And he was SO determined in helping you out whenever you have a wash day, so you walked him through how you detangle your hair and he's been a specialist ever since😌
He will make up any and every excuse possible to hold you and just be in your space.
He loves when you just lay together in silence, preferably with the window open so you can hear the sounds of the outside world and everything happening around you both while you're in your little sacred space.
That's happened quite a few times on Sunday nights, which rolled over into Monday mornings…which resulted in carpools to work where you'd have to act like you two didn't just arrive together from the same place.
You were almost late quite a few times on those types of mornings, it's like Peter wouldn't let you shower and get dressed in peace without messing up your outfit due to his..............antics…..
Oh, he wasn't a saint. You've heard rumors of the parties he'd host at his old Hollywood home, but you didn't think he was THIS mischievous…
When it came to sex, you were far from innocent. But Peter brought out this adventurous side of you as far as stepping out of your comfort zone goes.
You went three rounds in the back of a van at a music festival high off Mary-Jane once because you kept giving him praise and it drove him insane.
Sure, the bedroom, shower, kitchen, and balcony were nice…..but the library back room, teacher's lounge, janitor's closet, his classroom, and school parking lot in his backseat were mind-numbing. There was also your childhood bedroom when you went back to visit once…It was an otherworldly experience.
And he's such a giver! His definition of helping you de-stress is going down on you while you vent about what happened during the day and how it made you feel (and how he's making you feel).
He LIVES for seeing you come undone and lose yourself in pleasure, it's a challenge to him almost.
You're careful with how blissed-out you look after he makes you finish because HE WILL immediately go again.
And that's basically Peter's whole thing, he lives to please and enjoys helping in any possible way he can
Like that one time you and your library assistant were supposed to go over to the primary school to read books to the little kids and sing songs while you played your guitar , but the assistant got sick so Peter gladly snatched up his guitar as well and went along as your Stories and Songs accomplice
[End of Writing]
I started writing this in May but I just had so much going on during the summer that I would have to keep pausing my writing and just add on when inspo hit. This is basically the entire headcannon I guess, but I just didn't know how to close this one out and I didn't wanna just abruptly stop, ya know? BUT my classes are starting back soon....and with that comes the random and unexpected spurts of writing inspiration so I'm hoping for the best😅

Im absolutely in love w one and two and have been experiencing my villain era w the spotify playlists.
It hasn't been asked before!
We're actually working on it right this second lol. @3lectricinsomnia is writing a script (I guess you could say I'm beta-ing and helping with dialogue) and she's going to help me arrange panels so I can draw a comic :)
The comic is going to loosely follow the events of rottmnt. Some episodes are very similar (we'll probably skip those or exclude them from the storyline if we don't see a way to add anything new or relevant to the au) and some are pretty different. I'm going to keep it pretty messy (minor coloring, sketchy lineart, and minimal stress, just the way I like it >:)) so I'm hoping to start posting it relatively quick, once we've finalized a few episodes.
Of course, we're still thrilled to answer lore asks in the meantime, and we'll probably keep posting art on our respective blogs as we go
I'm so glad you like the playlists and the au twins ! villain playlists are where it's at fr
Anyway, sorry for the tangent and thanks for asking!

Hi, saw that you posted ch 7 of Giving Sanctuary and figuratively sprinted to ao3 to read. I love how soft everything is and between Hob and Dream. And! I'm noticing that Dream is slipping more about himself, lol. He literally says "waking world" or the redundancy in sleeping to enter his own realm. Which. Hob doesn't seem to really pick up on??? Ah well, he had other things - or a singular being - to focus on.
And Lucienne mention! Love Dream's description of her _strong_ urging for a "centuries overdue holiday" for him. Would love to be the fly on the wall for that exchange between them. Lucienne must have been so surprised then thrilled for workaholic Dream-my-purpose-is-my-function-and-I-can't-change-this to ask her if he could take more time in the waking world! To. Visit. A. FRIEND. A FRIEND. Also would love to be a fly on the wall for the ensuing gossip between the Dream folk (or at least between Lucienne and Jessamy) about Dream’s Friend and how Dream is willingly taking time off his work to spend time with this Friend (for more than once a century meet-ups).
And that moment when Hob changed in front of Dream and Dream.exe stopped functioning while Hob is going on as usual. Dream had no idea what Hob was talking about, huh? I laughed. I’m still laughing. I will continue to laugh.
Anyways, reading this chapter made me feel very giddy. Thank you for writing it!
Aaah, thank you so much! Apologies for not replying sooner, I wanted to wait a day to not spoil the story quite as much!
As for Hob picking up on stuff like "the waking world" - Understand I'm actually very excitedly "yes, and..!" ing you when I say, if you knew nothing about Endless lore... how the fuck would you interpret shit like that?? Like, Hob has already accepted that Dream is some sort of weird wizard or sorcerer of some kind, someone with a realm, someone whose name is "Dream" and his sister is "Death" and he's got a weird house and has lived for thousands of years. He know Dream isn't one of the Four Horsemen.
Unlike Hob from pretty much any other era, he is very much not pushing for more right now because Dream has done so much for him already, he's content to let it lie in pretty much every situation except not having a name to call Dream and being scared shitless that he, Hob, might accidentally usher in Armageddon as some sort of proxy for humanity being asked by one of the Four Horsemen if he wishes to live every century. Anything less than that? He's not gonna pry.
I only say this cuz I promise, I really did think about it! But the Endless and the Sandman universe borrows from mythology but it also gets just about everything just a liiiittle bit off when it comes to the mythological Morpheus or Oneiros, and Hob isn't as well read in the 1600s as he might be later. I genuinely wracked my brain for if he'd have any context to even start guessing Greek gods, much less get on the trail of who and what Dream is. Even the idea of a god of dreams would be pretty foreign. He might guess a Faerie creature, except Dream said he's not in Faerie.
So all of the weird shit Dream is saying is certainly weird, Hob is building up context clues to try to build a picture of who or what Dream is, but he's nowhere near guessing "the god of dreams" or figuring out what an Endless is. He could theoretically put together the name "Dream" and "my realm" and "I don't sleep" but that would again, require interrogating Dream to fill in missing pieces, which 1689 Hob is just not going to do. Sorry this essay got away from me but I was very excited at the prospect of talking about why this fic hasn't been heavier on Hob figuring out who Dream is on his own (unlike say, CLWM Hob who has more leverage because he's doing Dream a favor in return and he has an inquisitive mind and a lot less feeling of being beholden to Dream).
I admit, your comment about those conversations kinda makes me want to give a flash of what Dream's side of that chapter was like XD - Suffice to say, poor guy is going through a wild time right now emotionally, lol. And Lucienne is OVERJOYED that maybe Dream will have some help on his mental health before the whole Dreaming, where she unfortunately lives, collapses. If she ever met Hob she would surely shake his hand lol.
Anyway, I'm so glad you're enjoying, thank you for this lovely comment!

i love sunnyu so much they're so tom (chanhee) and jerry (sunwoo) !!! always bickering and sunwoo is always baiting him (or worse, spilling flying roe all over his computer caught in 4k on vlive rip) and and then the trio of sunnyukyu (sunwoo, chanhee, and changmin) always get along so well together and are constantly laughing and taking turns picking on each other, this combo just never fails to brighten my day!!
🌟 send w/ a group, and I’ll talk about my favorite era, concept, and/or album
ok im honestly obsessed w the current concept christmas in august ! it's so whimsical, and it's true that tbz comebacks really make it feel like christmas is here early with all the gifts they bring us in the form of new content (and praying for more tour stops announced....) ALSO having eric back just makes everything feel right again!! but honestly my fave era/concept might be their debut era with all 12 of them (hwall 🥺) and their cute predebut show Flower Snack and their predebut single I'm Your Boy and their debut song Boy! it was all so wholesome and fun!!!! i watched a lot of their super old ot12 content when i first became a deobi spring 2022 ! beyond that, i think my fave tbz album is either Reveal or Thrill-ing <3

probably the funniest part of academia is when you can slap clever-sounding words together put them through a search engine and learn that yes the thing you just invented is indeed a Highly Developed Concept already. like i've been researching intersections of emotion, literature & imperial legitimacy in romantic era britain for a while (thrilling stuff i know, riveting) and since i have a broad scope but a small brain one thing i do is make these giant mind maps. like just to visualize to myself how the prevalence of a Theme in literature (say, contagion, corruption, historicity) could allow us to draw conclusions about cultural moods (how's britain feeling? maybe a little anxious w all this talk about apocalypses and decline?) that could influence parliamentary debates. so NOW, half a year into making mind maps to explain my own thought processes to myself so i can draft better chapters, i was finally like "wait why don't i put these mind maps into the chapters themselves. as illustrations. and why don't i make them part of my methodology if i'm putting so much work into them anyway. hm but what could i call that method. maybe affective mapping. oh that's buzzwordy. i wonder if that exists" and wouldn't u know
Tumblr media
lessons to be taken away from this: 1. if it has "affect" and "-ing" in it it probably exists as an academic method 2. this institute developed a fully free to use and v minimalist and intuitive mapping software you can use for your research or your fic outline or for whatever so check it out if you're into mind maps ig?

Discography Review - The Boyz
This post involves me stating my personal opinions and thoughts while listening to the artist's discography, separated by era/release and pointing out my favorite song from each release. At the end of each section I'll give a score based on my enjoyment of the release as a whole, as well as a final score for the entire discography.
This is not an introduction to the artist, these are just my opinions posted on the internet for fun and should not be taken seriously.
Disclaimers and Rating System
The Boyz Edition: official korean and japanese discographies are included.
OSTs and Special Singles are not included.
Word Count: 3218
Originally posted on 01/11/23 and 22/11/23 as two separate posts in a sideblog.

A Bit About Me:
Something I do regarding kpop songs, mini albums and full albums is that I mostly listen to title tracks only. I follow about 200 kpop artists (including groups, sub units and soloists) give or take, so I limit myself to the title tracks so it's easier to check out their releases.
Still, I want to listen to all of their discographies, hence why I made this series.
My History With The Boyz:
I've been following them since their debut, actually. So every time they released something, I downloaded the title track. Ironically, I actually only stopped to learn their names in 2021, probably after the release of Drink It and before Thrill-Ing. That's also when Juyeon became my bias.
Thrill-Ing was their first mini album I listened to fully and some of these reviews won't be a first listen, but more of a revisit.
With that said, let's begin.
The First
I remember watching the MV for Boy the first time and then finding out it was released that daykkkk I don't know why but I definitely have a different "bond" with the groups I follow since their debut. It's a different feeling, even if I don't follow them everywhere.
For a debut I think they established themselves pretty good actually. The mini album gives off their style and does a great job at introducing them. Still, it doesn't really "pull me in", even if I think it's neat overall.
My favorite song is Walkin' In Time and looking at the other releases I can definitely see some callbacks to this mini album. I call it 'Classical The Boyz' Style, and when it appears in the newer releases (post Reveal) I think it's a nice nod.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
The Start
Now... I don't know why but I just didn't vibe with this mini album. My theory is that I didn't like it because I think these songs could've been released with their debut. For a first comeback, that's not something I want. I felt like they didn't expand on their style, but stayed on the same lane and speed instead. Maybe it was a smart marketing move, but still one I didn't enjoy.
I don't think it's a bad thing, it's good to have a brand. But for a first comeback I want something a bit more daring, I guess. Still, I don't hate these songs and my favorite is Just U (it does make me happy).
Also believe me when I say it's pretty difficult for me to actually dislike a song.
》 ☆☆ (Two Stars)
The Sphere
I have no idea what people say about this mini album but I WILL defend it at all costs. No one touch it. Keeper is my baby. This song gives me immense joy. There is not a sad day with this mini album. It has the energy, the style, the fun, the loveable vibes. No one will ruin this song for me.
Besides Keeper, I do think the three songs are great as a whole, even if I don't listen to the other two as much. Also Right Here was more captivating than Giddy Up for me (I will ALSO defend Giddy Up at all costs, don't try me).
As a final thought, if you hate Keeper, I'm sorry that you're not happy :(
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
The Only
This mini album gave us No Air, which in itself is a win. However, the other songs didn't grab my attention, and in this case, the title track won't raise the overall score.
With that said, this is the kind of album that I think of on rainy days and set aside a specific time to listen to it on its own. No Air still is my favorite song from this release.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Bloom Bloom
If you hate Bloom Bloom, I'm sorry that you're not happy :(
It was their first win FOR A REASON! The only people allowed to hate this song are The Boyz themselves, and even them won't escape it for the rest of their lives. If this song has one fan, it's me. If this song has no fans, it's because I'm no longer in this world.
Unfortunately, the title track won't raise the overall score, since Butterfly is not a song I usually go to and Clover is too cheesy for me. It will, however, earn this release our very first Moon Badge. Bloom Bloom is THAT song.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
Dreamlike
Now... *breathes deeply* Talented, Brilliant, Incredible, Amazing, Showstopping, Spectacular, Never The Same, Totally Unique, Completely Not Ever Been Done Before, Unafraid To Reference Or Not Reference, Put It In A Blender, Shit On It, Vomit On It, Eat It, Give Birth To It.
If there's one thing The Boyz can do no wrong in, is in a Summer Comeback. This mini album is everything I need and more. The songs perfectly fit with one another. I even dare to say it has the best opening (Water) AND ending (Daydream) songs from their entire discography.
Dreamlike is the mother I never had. She is the sister everybody would want. She is the friend that everybody deserves. I don't know a better person.
This release gave us Water which is easily my favorite The Boyz song of all time. It gave us D.D.D which is just absolute fun. It gave us Juyeon singing a chorus. It gave us a dance break. The aesthetic, the MV. This is easily one of my favorite The Boyz's releases. It altered my brain chemistry. Dreamlike is THAT girl.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
Tattoo
I remember being so confused with this release: I saw the MV but then realised they weren't promoting it anywhere? And then found out it was their Japanese debut??? But then the song was in KOREAN?????
I didn't listen to this song after 2018, and now with the first listen of the album, I can't say I missed *that* much. HOWEVER! This era gave us Stupid Sorry, which is my favorite japanese release from them. And it's also one of my favorite b-sides from their discography as a whole.
Still, one song won't raise the rating. l think the album is nice, though.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Reveal
Now... *sighs* Yes I was one of the people that didn't like the concept change. It just wasn't it for me. Especially because this was their first korean release right after BLOOM BLOOM and D.D.D which is already established that I love them.
I wouldn't say I was disappointed... or maybe I was. At the time I didn't know this was their first full album. I still thought the song was nice. I only listened to the album as a whole this year.
I'll also reveal (see what I did there?) some details on how my opinions have changed with the Chase section.
It's a good album, sure. My favorite song is Shake You Down because my girl Kenzie would never disappoint me. Also Kenzie and Moonshine on the same song in itself is a win. This album also gave us Goodbye and Spring Snow, which is nice. The other songs didn't catch my eye.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Chase
Now here, ladies and gentlemen and fellow non-binary folk, is how you make a successful concept. I think one of the let-downs of Reveal for me was that it didn't stick out to me because it was just a "dark" concept.
For a long time, actually, I liked Reveal more than The Stealer due to the chanting in the chorus (which is one of my pet peeves in songs). I only started liking The Stealer last year. And after listening to Chase as a whole, I look at my past self and think "How on EARTH did you think that Reveal was better than Chase?"
This era has the concept, the songs, the execution, the choreography, the storyline. It defeated Reveal in every aspect for me. I'm so sorry to the Reveal enjoyers who might be reading this (i'm sorry yumi), your tastes are still valid.
My favorite song is Shine Shine because MY GIRL KENZIE NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!! She also wrote the lyrics to The Stealer which is just the cherry on top.
All of this is still ironic considering that I disliked this era for two whole years.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
Breaking Dawn
I don't think there's a lot I'll be able to say about this era. I don't have any strong opinions about it besides not liking Breaking Dawn (the song) and having nightmares about the MISBHV shirt (please... i'm exhausted... someone burn this shirt... I see it everywhere....)
My favorite song is Hush which is not exactly saying a lot. In this album's defense, I don't give much attention to their japanese releases as a whole.
》 ☆☆ (Two Stars)
Drink It
Technically speaking Special Singles don't count in this review, but...
THIS IS A PLEAD FOR THE BOYZ TO PLEASE PERFORM THIS SONG LIVE, THE UNIVERSE APP AND COMPANY CAN JUST SCREW OFF, GIVE US THE SONG AGAIN 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
》 ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆~ (ALL the Stars, please perform this song live, I'm begging 😭😭😭😭😭😭)
Thrill-Ing
As I said before, this was the first mini album of The Boyz I heard in full. As I also said before, The Boyz simply know how to make a good summer comeback.
The concept photos? The MV? The songs? The aesthetic? The outfits? They slayed, your honor. This mini album is cohesive in everything it does. It was also the first comeback with me actually knowing all their names and following the teaser schedule.
The only song I didn't like at first was Dancing 'Til We Drop. Nowadays, I can enjoy it. It's still the last in my ranking from this release, but now I don't hate it. My number one slot is forever occupied by Bet On You.
As a closing thought, I'll say this: I really do like Merry Bad Ending, but that song is overrated.
》 ☆☆☆☆☆ (Five Stars) + 🌙 (Moon Badge)
Maverick
To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I think the let-down of it all was worse because this was 2 months after Thrill-Ing. You gave us the best summer comeback of the year and then released this song with chanting in the chorus and lyrics that don't make a lot of sense??
I did learn to appreciate the pre-chorus but that's about it. Safe to say I'm not the biggest fan of Maverick the song. The other two songs didn't capture me enough to give it three stars. It's just not my cup of tea and not the kind of style I like from The Boyz.
With that said, It's funny that I'm going off about this release on its 2 year anniversary. Happy Birthday Maverick!
》 ☆☆ (Two Stars)
She's The Boss
I don't know what it is with their japanese releases that just confuse me. When I listen to this song I don't like the way the verse is all aggressive and the chorus gets kinda chill.
Besides the title track, this release didn't stick out to me, even among the japanese comebacks. My favorite song is Why Why Why, which is not saying a lot. I did like the aesthetic of the title track MV and concept pictures.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Be Aware
This comeback... was.... something... yeah. It really was something. Definitely one of the releases of all time.
Besides the Eric hiatus, this era didn't feel quite right to me. Whisper felt like it was a Thrill Ride 2.0 that went wrong. It's definitely not for me. I do think it's funny that The Boyz seem to ignore this song too.
For the mini album as a whole... I don't hate the songs but I'd rather listen to their other releases. I think this is just out of spite because I don't like Whisper. My favorite song from here is Timeless.
》 ☆☆ (Two Stars)
Be Awake
Now, if they had Roar ready even before they released Whisper... then why did they even release Whisper????
I know that it's supposed to be some kind of Duology, I guess? But I don't see a lot of connections besides thinking that Blah Blah could be a Be Aware b-side.
Now, if you followed me when this was released you would know that I didn't like it at first. I had to listen to it like 10 times before liking it. I'm still glad I did because now I really appreciate the song. The MV is a masterpiece. And Kenzie wrote the lyrics, which is always a nice touch.
As for the rest of the mini album, I think the songs go great together. For someone who "doesn't like" The Boyz darker concepts, this was a nice surprise. My favorite song is Horizon.
As a final thought, I think IST should hire me to do their line distributions, I'm 100% sure I would be able to make a fair line distribution according to their voice timbrers and vocal technique levels. Please let Juyeon and Haknyeon sing more, I love their voices so much 😭😭😭😭😭
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
Delicious
This was... a bit of a whiplash experience because there were like four different types of songs?? Every two songs it felt like the vibe changed. It didn't make me dislike them, though. It was just a bit of a shock.
With that said, my favorite song is Lip Sync. I literally listened to it today before writing this, so I don't have much to say about this album.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Christmas In August
Say it with me: THE 👏 BOYZ 👏 KNOW 👏 HOW 👏 TO 👏 MAKE 👏 A 👏 GOOD 👏 SUMMER 👏 COMEBACK 👏.
Like, I don't know how they do it. They simply kill it every time. Dreamlike, Thrill-Ing and Christmas In August is THE Holy Trinity for me. If you don't like it, I'm sorry you don't know how to have fun :(
Jokes aside, when I first listened to this album, I pratically liked all the songs. I did get a bit disappointed by Fantasize because I thought it would have a more energetic chorus. But girl (gender neutral), when I listened to Fire Eyes...
When I tell you I jumped from my bed and started dancing and flailing around my arms and legs, you best believe me because that's exactly what it happened. This song is everything I wanted and more. It solidified this album as a favorite for me.
This album is just really good overall. Ugh I love it, I really do. Unfortunately it didn't quite get the five stars because not all the songs are my absolute favorites (including Lip Gloss, I'm so sorry my dear). With time it'll probably evolve into a Five-Star, but for now this is all I can offer.
As a final thought, I don't know why they decided to call it a Second Full Album divided in three parts?? Like, just say it's three mini albums? Especially if the concepts are gonna be different? Also if it doesn't reach the 30-minute mark, it's not a full album. But maybe it's just a me thing.

Sixth Sense
First, the marketing leading up to this release left me SO nervous and desperately hoping that we woudn't get a Maverick 2.0. I'm a lot more "forgiving" on the b-sides, but given the fact that The Boyz's members were talking about "bad boy" concept (and not the Red Velvet kind)... yeah, you can say I was at least a bit nervous, since I already said that I'm not the biggest fan of The Boyz's "darker" concepts.
As for the title track itself, Watch It is NOT a Maverick 2.0 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏. It's definitely not my favorite title track of them and I really prefer Roar to this, but it's also NOT my most disliked song! And for me, that's both a relief and a good thing to say, because I actually had some enjoyment listening to the song, although it didn't quite get past the "nice" territory.
I was scared it would be an anti-drop (which I'm tired of), but since there was no percussion on the first pre-chorus, there was no tension or buildup to resolve. However, on the second pre-chorus we had a bit more buildup, and I was a bit disappointed (but not really surprised) that the second chorus didn't add anything else beside an extra synth layer. I think I would've liked it better if there was more energy, in a similar way to You Calling My Name by GOT7, to give an example.
Also, on the end of the bridge there was a tempo change leading to the high note?? Out of nowhere???? And I can't believe they DIDN'T GO ALL THE WAY. They went back to the chorus. With an extra synth layer. No change in the percussion. That didn't make me disappointed, it made me sad 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. It could've been SO much more, they could've gone full Silent Night by Dreamcatcher, and I would've loved EVERY SECOND.
As for the rest of the album... why didn't they make Bad Luck the title track 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭, like yeah, I can see why Watch It is the title track, considering their marketing strategy, but I liked Bad Luck so much more... It has a break of expectation and it's so much more dynamic in my opinion. Crying&Laughter is my second favorite and honestly this track name just sums me up so well.
The mini album is really cohesive (and I love using the word cohesive) and you can definitely (another word I love using) see the vision they had for this release. Unfortunately, it's not a vision that I particularly enjoyed. So, this album is gonna have to go into a pretty familiar category: It's Nice But That's About It.
As a final thought, I'm gonna say this again: why are you gonna release 6 songs at a time with entire different concepts and call it a Full Album? Just say it's three mini albums or release a complete Full Album, please.
》 ☆☆☆ (Three Stars)
Final Scoring
As a whole, I almost rated this discography as three stars only, but after thinking a bit, even if I don't listen to every song (or most of them, at least), the ones I love and that I consider my favorites are enough to raise the score as whole. I may not love all the songs, but the ones I do, I love them with all my heart and they'll always be a special memory.
》 ☆☆☆☆ (Four Stars)
Final Thoughts
Again, I wanna say this was just for fun. I wanted to document my "process" as I navigate through my favorite artists' careers and maybe find a new perspective. I consider listening to music as my personal hobby, and so I wanted a fun way for me to do it.
I hope that those who read everything search a bit about The Boyz and their songs, if you haven't already ^^
Until the next post and happy listening 💜✨️

Albums Of 2022: 50-26
Tumblr media
Welcome to another year, another countdown. My music listening time has shrunk once again, but there’s still plenty of great releases that have got multiple listens.
I’ve noticed a trend that releases are getting shorter, and people are still calling them albums when they are an EP or mini-album. So my criteria is this. If it is 9 or more tracks, it is an album. If it is 8 tracks or less and 30 mins or longer, it is an album. Any less than that, it is an EP or a mini-album and not eligible for this list.
Honourable mentions to some artists whose albums very nearly made the list but just missed out:
Eye Of Melian, Andy Gardner of Plump DJs, The Birthday Massacre, Chase & Status, Let’s Eat Grandma, Mall Grab, xPropaganda, Riya Sawayama, Yumi & The Weather, HALIENE, The Hunna, White Lung, Witch Fever, Taylor Swift, Arcade Fire, The Anix and Röyksopp with the second volume of their “Profound Mysteries” trilogy.
Let the countdown begin.
50.
The Barnum Meserve "Designs"
Tumblr media
3rd album of cinematic alt-rock from the Nottingham band, mellow songs building to string laden crescendos.
49.
Nova Twins "Supernova"
Tumblr media
The self described 'Urban punk' duo, of whom Tom Morello is a big fan, deliver their 2nd album, and it's a blend of punk, hip-hop and electronics mixed up to deliver a huge amount of energy.
48.
Volturian "Red Dragon"
Tumblr media
The Italians deliver another album of symphonic, melodic and easily accessible metal. Though there are other genres too, "Torn Asunder", for example, is completely electronic, inspired by trance and house.
47.
Tinlicker "In Another Lifetime"
Tumblr media
A blend of deep house, progressive house and trance, on the 2nd album from the Utrecht based duo, which is hypnotic and a times beautiful.
46.
Bis "Systems Music For Home Defence"
Tumblr media
The Glasgow indie-popsters return, with cheeky lyrics, catchy hooks and danceable beats. It's not quite up to their "Social Dancing" - "Return To Central" peak, but it's a big improvement on everything else released since then.
45.
Confidence Man "Tilt"
Tumblr media
90s dance influenced pop bangers are the order of the day here, with tongue firmly in cheek but with a clear love for the era and the tunes from it. As a comment on one of their videos on YouTube (written by an Andy Brennan) put it "They ride that line between sincerity and parody SO WELL".
44.
Silversun Pickups "Physical Thrills"
Tumblr media
6th album from the LA alt-rockers. Always reliably good, this might be a more varied and inventive collection than normal, and it works a treat.
43.
Sick Joy "We're All Gonna F***ing Die"
Tumblr media
I like the band's own bio... "Cutting together malign heaviness with acidic melody then tying into place with the reigns of contagious pop." It's a good description, for this band that mix a bit of grunge, a bit of punk and a whole lot of hooks, that wouldn't have felt entirely out of place in the 90s, without being a retro throwback.
42.
Ciaran McAuley "Permission To Exhale"
Tumblr media
Debut album from this rising star of the trance scene. The first half is a bit more mellow, seemingly taking inspiration from Solarstone's pure trance sound, the second half a bit more euphoric and club leaning (but only slightly). A few excellent guest vocalists on here too, such as Audrey Gallagher and Lisa Gerrard.
41.
Fonzerelli "Silent Dreams & Misguided Stories"
Tumblr media
Lovely mid-tempo trance and house (and a splash of breaks), beautiful synths and pianos and some great guest vocals.
40.
Bloods "Together, Baby!"
Tumblr media
3rd album from Sydney's Bloods who are on fine form with their punk-pop-meets-riot-grrrl tunes. Big melodies, bouncy riffy fun.
39.
Cold Kingdom "Life // Love"
Tumblr media
Powerful, big chorused hard rock from the Minneapolis band. Fans of strong female vocals mixed with big riffs should check them out.
38.
Daxson "Face The Future"
Tumblr media
Trance producer and DJ Dan Dobson releases his debut artist album. And it suffers from the same thing a lot of modern trance artist albums suffer from... too many tracks which are consequently too short (in order to fit them on the equivalent of a single CD). This means the tracks don't get to breathe, and some just get lost while you are listening. But regardless, there is some quality uplifting trance on here, so it's well worth an effort.
37.
Röyksopp "Profound Mysteries III"
Tumblr media
Their third album release of the year and the final part of their Profound Mysteries trilogy, they finish the project strong. Some cracking tunes on here.
36.
Pale Waves "Unwanted"
Tumblr media
Starting off as a goth-synth-indie-pop-rock band (is that a thing?), they changed their sound for album 2 and became an average Avril Lavigne soundalike. Tweaking that slightly here for album 3, they are now a very good Avril Lavigne soundalike. Songs filled with big choruses, singalong hooks, some joyous, some heartfelt, every track worth your time.
35.
Kasabian "The Alchemist's Euphoria"
Tumblr media
Kasabian's first album with Serge Pizzorno stepping up to the frontman role, and it is an interesting beast. He does a good job as vocalist, and musically the album has influences of rock, hip-hop, dance, even Pink Floyd-esque moments.
34.
Bush "The Art Of Survival"
Tumblr media
Only Gavin Rossdale remains from the original line up, but the rebooted Bush has been putting out passable albums since 2011. Their last album, 2020's 'The Kingdom' was suprisingly good, and this one is even better. Full of big choruses and chunky riffs, and though it doesn't sound exactly like 90s Bush, it feels like listening to Bush of the old days.
33.
The Crystal Method "The Trip Out"
Tumblr media
Kicking off with an electro-rock stomper, you'd wonder if TCM have radically changed direction, but don't worry, there are plenty of breakbeat and electro stompers with various guest vocalists on this short but varied album.
32.
Muse "Will Of The People"
Tumblr media
Ah, Muse. I loved Muse. 4 brilliant albums, one of the best live bands on the planet... then it started going a bit pear-shaped. Yes, there was still the occasional great song, but they started veering into either being too bland, or far too theatrical Queen pastiche. And then came the entirely misjudged 'Simulation Theory', essentially an electro pop album, still with the Queen influences. It was lacking in punch, credibility and tunes. So, while flawed, 'Will Of The People' is a very pleasant surprise. Yes, it still contains some strong glam rock and Queen influences, giving it a sense of spoof, but it also has some of the best songs they've done in years. 'Won't Stand Down' and 'Kill Or Be Killed' are monsters that will go down very well live, 'Ghosts' and 'Verona' are actually rather pretty, overall it's the strongest Muse album since 'Black Holes & Revelations', so there's some hope for another classic yet.
31.
Mass Sky Raid "Calm In Chaos"
Tumblr media
Epic, melodic alt-rock from this Aussie band. Rock enough to not be middle of the road, mellow and radio friendly enough to be huge if given the right exposure.
30.
Blood Command "Praise Armageddonism"
Tumblr media
Blood Command's 4th album and first with vocalist Nikki Brumen. There are less electronic influences this time round, but still huge energy, chunky riffs, powerhouse drumming, screams and almost poppy melodic hooks.
29.
Charlotte Wessels "Tales From Six Feet Under Vol. II"
Tumblr media
The former Delain singer continues her solo career, full of all sorts of styles, from the symphonic metal she's known for, to rock to art-pop. This collection might not be quite as strong as Vol 1, but it still further proves we have a very special artist here.
28.
Subjective "The Start Of No Regret"
Tumblr media
Goldie & James Davidson bring us their 2nd Subjective album, and it's a winner. Beats that range from drum & bass to trip hop via breakbeat and house, deep bass and soulful vocals, it's a fabulous listen and is arguably Goldie's best album output since 'Timeless'.
27.
Avril Lavigne "Love Sux"
Tumblr media
Avril goes pop-punk for her best album in over a decade. Punchy, upbeat, and catchy as hell. I don't know whether it would necessarily win any pop-punk fans over if they weren't Avril fans to begin with, but it should work a treat on people like me who were Avril fans but were unimpressed by the last couple of albums.
26.
Giuseppe Ottaviani "Horizons (Part 1)"
Tumblr media
The trance legend releases a 2 part (well, 3 if you count the remixes) album for 2022, and this first part is full of lush, mid-tempo trance that mixes in elements of deep house and almost Jean-Michel Jarre like synths. It's warm, it's uplifting, you could certainly dance to it but it also feels perfect for chilling to on the beach or by a pool on a sunny day.
--------------------------------------------------
For the first time, Tumblr didn't allow me to add everything I wanted to to a single post (by refusing to save my changes) so this year's list is split in two.
Part 2 (numbers 25-1) including links to Spotify and YouTube playlists for the Top 50 is here:
