the post-statement section of mag 142 is so good because martin has his little freak out of "no no no no, this isn't jon, it's uhh mind control or something, he would never choose to this, and if I thought he did then. then. well I can't think about that, because it's not true," and then, almost like the forces of the universe are listening in on him (because they are), a daisy is delivered up to him to make it explicitly clear that just because there were external factors involved and she hates a lot of her past actions doesn't mean that she isn't responsible for them or she wasn't in control of herself. and then she has to explain to him that almost all of jon's overtly bad choices are really classic ptsd symptoms, something that seems to take martin aback to hear.

sandray making out in ray's car. we knew this scene was coming on multiple levels but still. ouch on multiple levels
Tumblr media
says the man that is about to give the puppy dog eyes of all time. of All Time
sandray are so tough to watch right now because the reason they're wholesome is that they're properly guarded against each other. ray, though he's clearly catching feelings for sand, is in love with someone else, which is very fortifying. sand is testing his own boundaries and being honest with himself about what's working and what isn't. he pulls physically away from ray multiple times here. this scene also has him admitting that he's never had sex more than once with someone he wasn't seeing seriously. when ray asks "so do I have to be your boyfriend to get more?" and sand says "i'll never take someone like you as my boyfriend" and then ray says "can't you just make an exception for me?" neither of them are saying what their words are (of trailer playing us again!!)
ray is not really offering, not in any meaningful way; sand is not declining as much as he is protecting himself. multiple times in this episode sand has indicated that he might be open to something serious with ray and ray has playfully offered something serious in a meaningfully disingenuous way, specifically to ward off the real conversation, and sand has performed brushing him off, to make it clear that he understands what's actually being offered and not offered. it's so twisted because all their surprisingly healthy communication is happening at a level where their words mean almost perfectly the opposite of what their words Actually Mean. it's only healthy because they both understand the nuance here. dangerous fuckin game boys
then mew calls. I've already seen some discourse about this so here comes my addition: yeah it's a good move to prioritize getting your drunk friend to a safe place. ray is doing a good thing here and he's also doing nothing wrong, even if he weren't. as aforementioned in the healthy communication bit; as sand will say shortly; he's made no promises and is well within his rights to do what he pleases, whether or not that comes at the expense of sand's feelings.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
yes, and: I think this shot summarizes really well the emotional heart of this. sand is not offended by ray picking up the call. he's feeling some physical feelings, obviously, about the interruption. but it's only when ray physically shrugs off his arm that he does the kicked puppy face. we see it again when he sighs and swallows his feelings until he hears ray say "sure, where are you? i'm coming" without any acknowledgement, implicit or otherwise, of what ray will be leaving to do so.
there's a perfectly valid scenario here where ray is interrupted in the middle of fun sexy times by the deeper bonds of friendship and goes honorably to attend to those priorities. but that's not what this is, or not the whole of it. he's not just picking mew's safety over sand in this moment; he's actively pushing sand away in favor of attending to mew, before he even knows what the call's about.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
sand is duly hurt and we get to hurt along with him, /especially/ because he's going to take ownership of his own pain in a moment and reiterate his own responsibility. "I don't have the right to be upset with you," he says. and on some level, this is true. but it sure is easy to get why he's hurting
(all ofts watch throughs)

so i didnt watch the game awards (bc i dont care really, also it was at 1am for me)
but i went back to see the bit where they talked about totk bc it did win an award (sadly bc i frankly dont thik it deserved that) and heard how totk was about "the player making their own story" which is.... ???
like it very much HAS, undenialbly, a story, its pretty clear about that, and its a bland and boring and also illogical one at that, you as the player influence what? how many sages or tears you get and that doesnt change fuck all?? building a hoverbike is making a story ??? huh?? do mean reenacting king kong with toys and glue?? i guess i CAN do that now but i dont play ZELDA for that????
it honestly, looking at the game as a whole too, sounds like "make one up yourself" bc they didnt care enough to write a good one themselves, much less give you any ground to work with bc they treated botws lore like it never happened
but its also so very much contradictory "making your own story" with WHAT, WITH WHAT?? there are no choices that matter and again, there IS a boring ass story, i literally cannot make it my own bc theres no option to do that bc it very much is dictated what happens?? you destroy the good groundwork from botw and old titles that you COULD work with and now tell me "we didnt bother writing a good story bc you should make your own" what the hell am i playing the game for then?? why make it a zelda?? why should i bother playing through a game for its story that you didnt bother to write?????? and you also DID?? but a bad one bc you didnt actually care??? why make one at all??? i could have worked better with an actual sandbox game
"lol i wanted to fuck around with game physics, if you want a story make it up yourself despite there being absolutely one as much in your face as it can be and everythign the previous title was discarded so nothing actually matters, do what you want lol nothing matters" really huh, this is were we are at now
why the fuck did you not make it an actual sandbox spin off then, at least we wouldnt have to deal with this missmatched cocktail of stuff you didnt bother to care about
just please, make your dream sandbox game, just make it, you know you want to, just do it, but dont pretend its a canon story focused zelda title, a sequel to one of the most -full of potential to be elaborated on- zelda games no less

I like to think that Force Ghost Anakin ships Sabine and Ezra for a number of reasons, and one of the biggest ones is because he loves drama and knows that Force Ghost Mace Windu is horrified by the idea of his great-grandpadawan marrying into the Disaster Lineage.
I also like to think that anytime Sabine and Ezra are talking with each other or thinking about each other after Sabine begins her Jedi training, their respective force-ghost-master-ancestor will stand behind them and give them advice. Mace Windu is giving Ezra a whole ton of advice about How To Not End Up With Sabine, which Ezra has to ignore because he Very Much Wants To End Up With Sabine. Meanwhile, Anakin is giving Sabine a whole ton of advice on How To End Up With Ezra, which she also has to ignore because Anakin Is Terrible At Starting Healthy Dating Relationships.

god but something about how fast ray dropped everything the minute he saw mew calling. like i mean that took herculean levels of willpower for ray to stop, fish that phone out, and compose himself enough to answer it.
is mew is the only one who ever calls ray? or is the only time any of ray's friends ever call him when they need something from him? it'd fit with how ray knew "it's urgent" before even taking the call.
because it makes so much sense, for someone who feels like the "burden" friend, to want to be needed by his friends so badly that he'd drop anything and everything - even a very hot, "priceless" hookup - to go be of service instead. if ray really does feel like a burden to his friends, the least he can do is try and be reliable the few times he is asked to help, right?
and when ray tries to be a good friend it's typically in the form of his wealth/material goods because it's the only way he knows how - it's not like anyone seems to think he's good for much else, do they? like that scene where ray offers to do the music and his friends stare at him as if until that moment they'd all been under the impression ray had never listened to a song in his life.
given all that, if you're ray and you're now having to choose between the hot guy in your car (who you know is only your friend because you asked him to, who'd never take "someone like you" as a lover), or, answering your long time best friend/crush's call for help (who finally needs you again after having found someone new, who has always taken care of you, who could have asked his boyfriend but is instead asking you) - it's really not even a choice, is it?
besides, ray can always make it up to sand later. sand will be fine. it's not as if sand wants or needs him the same way ray does, right?

Complicated anxiety post!
I scheduled a fancy haircut thinking I’d be excited by the time it rolled around, and now the free cancellation window has closed but I’m still :|
I know I *need* a haircut. It’s gotten so long that I hate washing it (it clings all the way down my back and literally makes me whimper with grossness). So I wash it less often than I like, and not wanting to wash it makes me put off swimming and exercise and other things that make me feel good. It also gets super tangled and dry, and I have to braid it every night before bed, and if I wear it up/braided too often, it makes my scalp hurt. (Also, the braid falls on my dog when I pick him up and bothers him.)
I know a haircut is inevitable. Both sides are shaved and the ponytail keeps getting thinner and thinner. Also I have several inches of crunchy dead ends.
I want to keep the length because it looks cool to have shaved sides and just a big messy pile on top. (Also: sunk cost fallacy.) I also feel like it’s a compromise with Japanese beauty standards: I don’t really perform femininity, and societal pressure is so strong, and also having long hair like a pretty lady makes me less threatening as a scary foreigner; I don’t also need to look unfeminine or uncategorizable.
(The pressure here is really next level. People say “I’ve noticed you don’t wear makeup” in the tone I’d use for “I’ve noticed you don’t wear pants.” I once asked my Japanese ex why she did a full face of makeup just to run to 7-11, and she said, “It’s just basic manners.” It’s really hard to not conform! And I already don’t conform. (Should that make it easier? Sure! Does it? Fuck off with your logic—hair does not operate on logic!))
Making it harder is that my face is fatter than the last time I had short hair. (And older.) It probably won’t look good anymore! And even if it does, I don’t think I’ll be able to see it, and I will walk away shaken.
I could make a less dramatic change, but I’m not sure how viable that will actually be. Transitioning an undercut is complicated, and I’ve had hairstylists here respond to suggestions with “Yeah, that’s just not possible” (and Japan = rules do not bend). Also, pricewise, this is not a place I’d go for a trim; I went and called in the experts, and I’m not ready for them.
Also, time pressure. If I’m going back to bangs, I have to do it well before warm weather hits and we’re doing concrete jungle with 80% humidity. I’ve made that mistake before. You need a transition period. Emotionally, and to train your hair!
The one uncomplicated upside is that I have a cool silver stripe in my hair if it’s parted a certain way, so I can finally get my haircut that makes me Rogue! I’ve wanted that for years.
I plan to consult with the stylist, but I’m honestly no longer sure enough to know what to say. And I told him that it was a big haircut but I knew what I wanted!
要するに, it would be so much easier if this war was just society vs. my preferred expression/presentation. There’s other parties begging me to cut: exercise!!! hygiene!!!! scalp pain (grim!)!!! my little dog!!!
