I got a plastic bracelet award for ‘Determination’ in sport at school. Apparently I was the best in my yeargroup at it, or I stood out for it, or something.
The truth is, keeping going when you can’t anymore, when your brain’s telling you to stop, is something I have practice at.
Not saying I’m good at it, but running when I’m exhausted is similar to forcing myself to get out of bed after the alarm sounds. It’s similar to standing up to cook dinner. It’s similar to opening a word document of a project and writing the first word. It’s similar to plugging my phone in when the charger’s several feet away. It’s similar to keeping going baking something until it’s done.
They’re almost identical efforts: just running that little bit further, just adding the next ingredient, just tying the laces of my work shoes.
