Joined a cross religion discord server for veiling/headscarves and immediately one of the mods went nuclear on a user for daring to be Israeli and saying happy passover. "you can celebrate passover and we love Jews but hate Zionists" was said. The mod ended up kicking the Israeli for being born in a country.
Left that server immediately but by God come on people

Does anyone have non-Orthodox sources on covering your hair as an unmarried Jew? I want to learn more about taking on that mitzvah, but don't feel that these available sources properly reflect the opinions, reasoning, and experiences of those of us in liberal Jewish communities.

Jewish convert culture is wanting to wear a tichel but worrying about how anti-religion family members will react

Veiled Queer People Belong In Queer Spaces Too
I've seen this idea that's sort of ingrained in the queer community that someone who dresses modestly and/or veils is either homophobic or doesn't belong in queer spaces. In reality, there are many queer people that wear veils like hijab/niqab, tichel, himation/tegidion, the list goes on. I think that idea comes from veiling being associated with misogyny and misogyny being linked with homophobia. While misogyny is often linked with homophobia, veiling is NOT a misogynistic practice. There's also this idea that men/nonbinary people can't and don't wear veils and many trans men and nonbinary people feel invalidated because queer and cishet people alike don't know that many religions allow and even encourage men to wear veils. In Hellenic polytheism (my religion) men and women alike have historically worn veils like the himation. I get a lot of people asking me why I identify as transmasc while wearing a veil and telling me that there's no point in me being nonbinary while wearing veils.

So I want to start wearing tichel/headcoverings since I've only used bandanas but I was wondering for some good shops to get them from? Just anywhere I can could get head scarfs/headwraps/tichel or bandanas or anything large enough to actually be used for veiling would be super awesome

hey y’all i just wanted to share my veiling discord server !!
It’s a community for anyone and everyone who veils, regardless of faith. We have a variety of channels for chatting, asking questions, sharing resources, learning new things, and so much more!!
If you veil, are interested in veiling, or just want to be part of a chill interfaith community, we’re a great place to stop!!

Hey, so I was hoping to get some opinions about wearing both a kippah and tichel interchangeably as a genderqueer jew. I see myself mostly as a man, and usually I wear a kippah, but sometimes I see myself more as a woman and it feels more appropriate to me to wear a tichel. It feels like connecting to the feminine parts of myself while still having the kind of reminder of G-d's presence and of heaven around me. I know traditionally that tichels have mostly been worn by married orthodox women, but I've seen a big influx of younger, unmarried non-orthodox jewish women sort of reclaiming the practice. I don't look like a woman (have a full beard etc) so I'm not particularly worried about the social assumptions that I'm a married jewish woman, but I am worried that people might think that I'm somehow making a mockery of the practice, which is certainly not what I want to do.
I'd love some religious and queer jews to chime in specifically, but open to other FOR too

I'm surprised how little I see detrans people who find comfort in religion.
I didn't detransition because of my faith, but to me, my femininity is something I couldn't find comfort in without my faith. When I had just detransitioned, I saw myself falling back into the teenage desire of oversexualising myself in my femininity.
That's when I discovered how much I love modesty.
I covered my hair, and my femininity became about autonomy and choice.
I put on a long skirt, and my femininity became about being incognito.
Nobody needs to know what my hair and body looks like.
Religious modesty saved me from oversexualising myself for the male gaze as an attempt to seek validation in my newly found role as a woman.
