Oh boy oh boy do I love clocks. I want to have My wall full of big and small ugly dusty clocks that tick tick tick and never stop ticking and I want my heartbeat to sink Up with the ticking so that no matter how far I wnader I can always hear the ceaseless ticking reminding me That it is there

Continuing from here:
Prologue
Chrissy knelt beside the butterfly. The soft edge of its wings were tattered, but Chrissy thought they still looked beautiful. Warm yellow and bright apricot, almost the same shade as her hair.
She bit her bottom lip, felt the crack growing against her heart.
Around her the other kids ran and laughed and played. They were light, happy. Rejoicing in the fact of summer fast approaching. They did not care about the dead butterfly. They did not care that it lay in the grass and would no longer fly. They did not care it was trapped.
Chrissy picked up the fragile body. Cradled it in her hands. The split in her heart rippled and burned, like water right before it boils.
“Please wake up,” Chrissy whispered.
Her heart burned. And she could feel her heartbeat in the palm of her hands, directly beneath the butterfly.
“Please.” Chrissy repeated.
The wind blew. Her classmates laughed. A tear slid down her cheek.
Her heart beat wildly in her palms. Her chest felt hot.
The butterfly’s tongue slipped back into its mouth.
Chrissy gasped.
The butterfly tilted its fragile weight onto its long legs. Its wings beat lazily a few times before it floated out of Chrissy’s hands. She smiled. Watched as it drifted away in the warm breeze.
Somewhere a clock started ticking…

Stephen Mallinder interview on CDM
A real pleasure to interview Stephen Mallinder, whose recent solo renaissance brings some excellently funky industrial with very in the pocket delivery of unique lyrics.
Chatted with him for about gear (and working with Benge’s candyland assortment of classics), playing with words and spelling, his many bands, teaching, and those under appreciated 90s Cabaret Voltaire albums.
