I've had this brewing in my head for a while now, but I've finally gotten the chance to write out my thoughts about Halsin's glaive, or more specifically, my thoughts behind its enchantment, Sorrowful Lash.

When I first retrieved the "Sorrow" after rescuing Halsin, I didn't give much thought about the enchantment beyond its function. And to preface this, it's much more likely that I've just been overthinking its meaning than being on to something, but I figured it might be worth talking about if only from a writer's standpoint.

According to some tid-bits of information that was datamined from Early Access (I think), "Sorrow" was Halsin's weapon. He used it during the battle against Ketheric and his forces. The battle against Ketheric and his forces was wholly chaotic and, as a result, Halsin slew Isobel. It was this moment that led to Ketheric's downward spiral into unrelenting madness. It is almost a certainty that no one else besides him knows how Isobel truly died. He would have seen himself as the catalyst for everything that befell those lands, and perhaps worst of all, being at least indirectly responsible for Thaniel's century-long plight.

Now what made me scratch my head about his weapon was, "Why a lash?" I mean, obviously the writers/developers would have wanted to create something that'd deal some damage while being a bit versatile.

But I'm not speaking from a technical stand point. I'm speaking from a metaphorical one. Why Sorrowful Lash? Why not Sorrowful Touch, an enchantment that deals cold damage? The cold is often associated with sadness. Or Sorrowful Night, an enchantment that allows the user to cast Darkness as a cantrip, as the world always seems darker when we're in a bad place?

I thought about it. And I came up with my answer: depression, or "Sorrow", pulls you into yourself. Every time. It latches onto you, keeps you in the same place so that you'll become isolated. You try to take one step forward, and it yanks you three steps back. You get no where. Less than no where; you fall backwards. Just when you think you're out of harm's way, its thorny whip finds its mark.

Back to where you started.

isn’t the double shiny crash a known glitch? can’t fathom that it would’ve had to happen to multiple people.

it is!! actually, it's not that uncommon to happen—under very specific circumstances. that video was taken on my platinum file, which has a Trainer ID/Secret ID that meets the conditions for the Cute Charm exploit! i feel like I might've explained this on this blog before, but it's still cool so i'll give a quick summary:

Cute Charm makes you ≈67% more likely to encounter Pokemon of the opposite gender. In Gen IV, it does this by forcing a specific set of 25 personality values that are consistent across every copy of the game. Meanwhile, a Pokemon's Shininess is determined by a combination of its personality value in tandem with the TID/SID of the save file it is on (that's why it's possible for non-Shiny eggs to hatch as Shiny Pokemon when traded to another save file). If you don't have a matching TID/SID you will basically never encounter a shiny with a Cute Charm user in your party, because these rolled values are determinate and unchangeable. (The exception being if Cute Charm fails to take effect and random values are generated instead.)

But you can probably guess what happens when you roll a TID/SID that happens to read some of those forced values as shiny! At its highest, each Pokemon you encounter has a 20% chance to be shiny. Which is how I was able to record that video. I genuinely had to move my Cute Charm user out of the lead during my playthrough because I genuinely would not have been able to escape Eterna Forest otherwise, LOL. An excess of shininess causes these crashes in double battles—not unlike Midas and his accursed golden touch. Such is a suitable punishment for bending reality to my whims. (More specific information + stuff about RNG manipulation here!)

I can't handle ending on angst. Gentle as it Goes, definitely, but I hate it, I cannot handle splitting the party.

Quick Tid-Bits about TS2 vs TS4

IMO they are both equal in terms of ease/difficulty, because TS2 & TS4 have faaaar more in common with each other than either does with TS3--primarily:

their lack of CASt (which makes creating custom Multipliers, RGB Masks and Overlays for recolorable items a PAIN IN THE BUTT but a 100% necessary evil)

and the way UV Maps are squished together in stupid ways in 2/4, rather than having things like bottoms or accessories separated with their own UVs like in 3.

Poly count is another issue. By default, TS2 uses lower polys than TS3 and TS4, which sometimes is not that great for using Maxis Match assets in TS3 like hair--

And I literally cannot abide by the clayfied hairs in TS4--unless it's dreads, braids or other styles that can get away with lower polys if the texture's good.

But as for custom content, not EA's assets, omg the TS4 CC community has literally become the worst with poly counts. The poly cap in TS3 is usually 30000, and even that's not something you want tons of in your game. But jfc the polys in TS4 CC are out of control.

Usually Blender's Decimate Modifier can help clean up the unnecessary polys, but when a mesh is 100k and you're trying to get it under 30k, often that tends to eff up the mesh and require fixing split seams and gaps in the mesh and all kinds of extra hassle that I just DO NOT like dealing with. So keep that in mind.

Speaking of Blender....

The programs for extracting TS2/4 assets are both "easy" once you get used to them, but for user friendliness I really like TS4's Sims 4 Studio (you need Blender to extract the .obj mesh, but it's free so it's fine).

I like GUIs with big buttons and icons/thumbnails that don't make me feel intimidated, so for me TS2's SimPE has a bit too much text.

Like, the Texture Image (TXTR) is the texture, sure, but how would I know the Geometric Data Container (GMDC) is the mesh (without reading the tutorials, of course)?

I like having everything just clear and up-front so I don't have have to think too much.

So yeah, I think there are pros and cons to both TS2 & TS4, but they're both equally similar to tackle.

I just wanted to say that even though these ships may not be in my "to write about" list soon, it doesn't mean that I won't write about them anymore... just not now

Well, since I mostly write about TSC and TID/TLH, of course some ships are going to be from there. I want to underline that THIS IS NOT AN ANTI POST, btw. Aat least it doesn't seem anti to me, I don't get deeper into the specific reasons from canon I don't want to write about them at the moment, I am being very vague here and about my personal reasons why I can't

The first ship is Jordelia. I was so invested in them when I first read COG, and back then I even began a long fic about them. I had playlists made and all, had a ton of ideas. COI and then COT sunk the interest I had and now it's below ground, basically. This is probably the first CC series where I don't care about the main ship at all. After my reread, my feelings got even stronger, but I do not let them get my down. I tried writing a fic with them alone, but I couldn't bring myself to. Every time I think about them, my mind is blank. I like to include them in other fan fics because I enjoy writing their dynamics with other characters, though.

The second is Gracetopher. I like them enough, but they are hard to write to me, and I often am scared of disappointing people with my characterization of them (since I know a lot of people who like them). The last fan fic of them I posted got some backlash from one specific user, and that also turned me off because, not going to lie, I am afraid that if I post a new fic, this user is going to show up to criticize me again and I don't know if I can take it a second time. So, since they are hard to write for me, I just try to include them in my other works if I can, but I am not planning to write them (even though I have a few ideas on my fic notebook).

The last ship is probably Gabrily, because it's the other TID ship I've written about. I like them, of course, but I don't have any ideas about them at the moment and I want to focus on something else :)

Ok so here is Grelock Moorelis, for the first time seeing the light of day!

29. General description

Grelock, named after the main antagonist of Grognak the barbarian, is an eccentric young woman (she/her). She was raised by her equally eccentric adoptive ghoul uncle Moorelis, the original writer of ‘Grognak the barbarian’ (before he got sacked). They somewhat recently (Fo4 timeline) have migrated from the west and taken an impermanent occupation in Goodneighbour. By nature, like Moorelis, she's a scavenger. Grelock wears plenty of pouches and satchels to stow things away. Her uncle used to cherish his long back length hair, and somewhat lives through her by insisting Grelock keeps it long despite the inconvenience of the wasteland. And she always keeps her hair in two tight braids, courtesy of Moorelis.

8. Do they like robots?

Growing up, she’d seen the bigotry towards ghouls through her uncle. Not just ghouls, but anything that isn't human. A particularly traumatizing event; a group of muscle tracked her and her uncle down when she was a kid and gave moorelis the smack down just for walking through a place ‘he wasn’t supposed to be’. because of that she's someone that's most always going to align more with non-humans. 

But, beyond that; robots are sick! a whole being- a person! Made of bolts and doo-hickies, so cool. And so much easier to relate to? she can't quite put her finger on it, but robots are just easier to talk to.

15. What are thier vices?

Grelock has a very strange and inconsistent moral compass. She has her own paranoid moral rule set that mostly keeps her in check. eg; Theft is only wrong if she's seen somebody use it or talk about needing it- otherwise it's cool. She has a difficult time telling right from wrong. And generally let things slide with a friend because they are friends (this includes maybe cold blooded murder lol). The only thing that is definitively bad in her mind is cannibalism. she wouldn't resort to it even if she was on the very edge of starvation.

She'd never ever touch chems. Moorelis beat that into her head pretty early on; drugs r bad!! She's paranoid that somehow the moment she’d even think about taking a hit, her uncle would receive a psychic message from god and disown her. Although, she doesn't really care when other people are users, it's super just-her-thing.

Final tid bits, tends to vandalize and blow things up. says it's her 'art'. Grelock doesn't drink often because it's expensive (any expense is expensive to her lol), but when she does there is no moderation- she cannot control herself. Alcohol also makes her create more ‘art’.

Best Sumeru theory I’ve seen so far

I studied the English version of the Sumeru PV, and then reviewed the other few versions, and now I feel like Rukkhadevata may have done something big in Sumeru.

In the English version, the system created by Rukkhadevata was translated as “Akasha”.  This word is a phonetic translation of the original word in Sanskrit, but the original meaning isn’t “another world outside of the material world” like how it appears in many other games, but it actually means “the sky” or the concept of space itself.  In Sanskrit, Akasha is regarded as the origin and foundation of all beings and all things (since everything takes up a certain amount of space).  Later, as ancient Indian philosophy was introduced into Western mysticism in the 18th-19th century, Western mysticism came up with the “Akashic Records”.  Basically, in this concept, there is an “Akashic Record” in the purely spiritual “Akasha”, which recorded everything in the universe:  past and present, all events, all thoughts.  If you have a way to read the Akashic Record, you will be able to find anything you want.

Coincidentally, there is such a record in Genshin:  the ley lines.  One of the loading screen messages explained how the ley lines worked, I don’t remember the exact words, but I think it’s roughly “the ley lines recorded everything that has happened” (original text from the wiki:  “A mysterious network that links the whole world together, within which flow the elements. It's said the Ley Lines remember all things that happen in this world, from the surface down to the deepest depths...”).  So ley lines is half of the “Akashic Record” (since it does not record future events).  Maybe Rukkhadevata, for reasons unknown, used their gnosis to create a thing that allows humans to access and retrieve information in the ley lines, and after Rukkhadevata died, the people of Sumeru started to use the Akasha system to tap into the knowledge stored within the ley lines more and more, without inhibition or moderation.

Also, if Akasha is really the “server” that connects to the ley lines, that can explain how the Akademiya turned knowledge into a resource and used that to govern Sumeru.  Because if the Akademiya is only a research institution that stores knowledge and lets people write academic papers, then it should not hold a lot of power over the researchers.  An organization like this relies on the “production” of knowledge from the researchers, but the lore did not mention the Akademiya giving grants to the researchers like in Fontaine, where if the Fontaine researchers don’t complete their research they had to appear before the court.  But if Akasha is a “server” that lets users access the Ley Lines, then things are very different.  The Akademiya can reserve the power to grant or deny access permission.  It’s like if a person wants to write academic papers, but only the Akademiya can decide who gets to access the library, which library, and for how long.  This way the Akademiya can hold authority over people.

In the “Travail” trailer, (Dainsleif’s) comment for Sumeru is “in the city of scholars there is a push for folly”.  As we all know, messing with the Ley Lines in the world of Genshin never ends well.

Another interesting thing is in the “A Winter Night’s Lazzo” PV, Collei saw Dottore burning a tree.  In his dialogue with Columbina, Dottore said that Segment was carrying out a “little experiment in ‘blasphemy’”.

So, if my guess regarding Akasha is correct, then the tree that Dottore burned could be Akasha.  Because lore-wise, Snezhnaya will definitely collect all of the gnoses, and if the Fatui were to get the dendro gnosis, they must first destroy the Akasha “server” that is based on this gnosis.  Destroying the legacy of the previous Dendro archon does count as “blasphemy”.  Judging by the future direction of the lore, the Akademiya doesn’t seem to be a good organization, so if Akasha does have something to do with the Ley Lines, then the current Dendro archon has a good reason to destroy Akasha in order to prevent any future f**k-ups from the Akademiya.  

So here’s my bold prediction, maybe Sumeru’s situation is similar to Liyue, where the Dendro archon consented to the actions of the Fatui, and even used the gnosis as a reward to force the Fatui to destroy the Akasha system.

Januar 1984: Attack of the Mutant Camels (Llamasoft)

I likhet med mange av spillene til Jeff Minter AKA Llamasoft (Sheep in Space, Hovver Bovver...), hadde dette spillet en høy WTF-faktor da det manifesterte i kjellerstuene våre via piratkopierte Turbo Tape-kassetter.

En karavane med gigantiske, ildkule-spyttende kameler som du og det sinnssykt blinkende romskipet ditt må skyte før de er ferdige med å marsjere taktfast fra venstre til høyre gjennom et minimalistisk landskap? Det slo oss som originalt, surrealistisk og bittelitt genialt.

Det er derfor litt skuffende å oppdage i ettertid at Attack of the Mutant Camels er bortimot en blåkopi av et Atari 2600-spill som het The Empire Strikes Back, bare med AT-ATene byttet ut med kameler.

Uansett: Attack of the Mutant Camels er et skytespill hvor mye av appellen ligger i at det er akkurat litt for frenetisk, og hvor man hele tiden balanserer på en knivsegg mellom kontroll og kollisjon. Jeff Minter var en ekspert på denne typen blodstrengt men finkalibrert gameplay, og skytespillene hans er blant 80-tallets absolutt aller fineste.

Utfordringene i spillet består av å skyte seks mutantkameler før de når fram til basen sin (dvs. høyre side av skjermen.) Denne oppgaven kompliseres av at kamelene har tjukke skall som må skytes hundrevis av ganger før du trenger gjennom, og av at de samme kamelene tar seg tid til å spytte (innimellom varmesøkende) ildkuler mot deg mens de marsjerer.

I en fin og litt rørende detalj, løfter mutantkamelene hodet i et lydløst skrik mot et kaldt og ufølende univers når de er døende. Det er nesten så man får litt dårlig samvittighet, men menneskehetens framtid står på spill her, god dammit!

Hvis du rekker å skyte alle kamelene i tide, må du overleve et horisontalt scrollende hinderløp gjennom hyperspace før du slipper til på (forutsigbart nok) en ny karavane med kameler som marsjerer litt raskere og spytter litt flere og litt hissigere ildkuler

Jeff Minter hadde ikke troa på å fyre for kråkene, og Attack of the Mutant Camels eskalerer raskt. Allerede på tredje kamelbølge er det (ihvertfall for meg) tung tidsnød på å rekke å skyte alle kamelene før det er for sent.

Dette kan ikke sies å være en tidløs skytespill-klassiker på linje med f.eks. tidligere nevnte Blue Max, men det er god, sunn, frenetisk moro - og akkurat passe loco. Fortsatt artig, 41 år senere.
