ONE dude drove the excavator to dig out the Ever Given and they haven’t paid his overtime yet for working five 21 hour days
Tumblr media
So I know the Ever Given has wiggled out of the news cycle, but I learned something incredible on the radio today and verified it with a written source: there was one guy, Abdullah Abdul-Gawad, driving the excavator for up to 21 hours a day for five days.
He apparently disliked the memes, and per business insider, was driven by the memes and the jokes to prove he could dislodge it.
“To him, it felt as if ‘everyone was just making fun of it,’ he said. ‘And that was what made me so determined,’ he continued. ‘I was like, you know, you're making fun of me. So I'm absolutely going to prove that I can do this.’”
One dude moved the dirt for the Ever Given. Driven by spite and three hours of sleep a night, max. And while the lawsuits have started, he hasn’t been paid his overtime yet.
Isn’t that wild?

Today I learned oaks can talk with one another and collectively decide not make acorns for an entire year to try and starve as many squirrels as they can so next year’s acorns will have a higher chance of turning into trees, and my entire understanding of the world just shifted a little.

i learned that in August 2014 Women’s Voices for the Earth commissioned testing of four types of Always menstrual pads, manufactured by Procter & Gamble. The certified laboratory STAT Analysis Corporation analyzed the products for volatile organic compound.
Tumblr media
“The results of the testing indicate that both scented and unscented Always pads emit toxic chemicals, including chemicals identified by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services National Toxicology Program, the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and the State of California Environmental Protection Agency as carcinogens, and reproductive and developmental toxins. None of these chemicals are disclosed on the product by the manufacturer.” (x)

Two things I learned this morning:
1. You can buy BDSM gear from Walmart.
2. Walmart’s catalogue classifies BDSM gear as a subcategory of “Health & Wellness”.

A baby Aardvark and the strange teeth of their order “Tubulidentata”. Aardvarks are the sole living member of their mammalian order which includes another 15 or so creatures. They evolved shortly after the extinction of the dinosaurs and are evidently named for their strange tube like teeth.
Each tooth is made of thin, hexagonal, parallel tubes that have their own pulp canals. The teeth have no enamel coating and they grow constantly throughout their lives, being worn down by usage. They also only have teeth at the back of their jaws, which are molars. Oddly, baby Aardvarks grow regular mammalian Incisors and Canines at the front of the jaw that fall out during adolescence and never grow back.
The name Aardvark means “Earth Pig” in Afrikaans and they are commonly thought to be Anteaters due to their similar appearance and the fact that they can consume up to 50,000 ants a day. But in reality, they aren’t closely related to Anteaters at all, but share a close lineage with Elephants.
Aardvarks almost exclusively eat ants and termites, but they also eat a fruit that they share a symbiotic relationship with, known as the Aardvark Cucumber. The animal defecates the seeds near their burrows into the loose, rich soil allowing the seeds to grow much faster compared with normal soil. Also, the specific environment within the intestines of the animal increases the fertility, and thus the probability of the survival of the seeds.

Blue banded bee, Amegilla andrewsi
"Blue-banded Digger Bees are solitary bees that have the ability to buzz pollinate flowers. Clinging onto the flower’s anthers, the bee vibrates its body at a particular frequency that causes pollen from the flower to be released."

May I please very politely warn you that Da Vinci’s “Monna Lisa” is spelled with two “n”s!
This is crucial because if you spell it with one “n” it’ll come out as “mona Lisa” and, since in Venetian “mona” means “pussy”, you’ll end up saying “pussy Lisa”, so yeah don't say that
