i keep seeing fake to real relationship fics where Red Robin is sacrificed to the ghost king
and those are great don’t get me wrong, but why is it always Red Robin??
wouldn’t it — hear me out ok — would it not be infinitely funnier if Timothy Drake-Wayne, CEO of Wayne Enterprises, a son of Gotham’s beloved royal family, social media blue check, was kidnapped and sacrificed instead.
Imagine the panic. The internet catastrophe. The viral posts. The public outcry. Why is the Justice League taking so long to rescue this poor boy??
Then imagine said poor boy finally being rescued. They manage it. They get him back.
And upon his return from what was obviously, no doubt, a traumatizing ordeal of inter dimensional kidnapping, Timothy Drake-Wayne’s first Twitter post is just
“give me back my ghost king boyfriend I miss him : (”
The internet would fucking EXPLODE ok listen, no stop walking away listen to me —

Multiple businesses have suddenly been handed over to one man under the name of Masters. Multiple businesses who have some type of corruption one way or another.
The Wayne's wouldn't have even noticed, really, if the same wasn't happening in Gotham city.
It was alarming, really. Whoever Masters was he new how to pick his targets, businesses which are either small enough to go ignored, about to go bankrupt, or had rumors (which were true) about dabbling in crime.
All the businesses he took seemingly flourished under his hands, with not even a single corner being dipped in crime. Whoever Masters was, he was undoubtably a successful businessman, he managed to built an empire that was soon capable of rivaling both Lexcorp Wayne Foundation in a few years, and he was an incredibly elusive man himself.
No one knew what he looked like, nor his first name.
Only his last, Masters.
On a different note, there was another thing Tim was looking into. A new restaurant/ice cream parlor which opened up recently, it just opened up out of the blue, owned by a family that just appeared in Gotham one day.
From what he checked, there wasn't any records about any of them anywhere Tim could find, like literally nothing. Almost like they didn't exist prior to the day they opened.
There was only three people who owned the store. Vlad- no last name- the cook and owner, Danny- again, no last name- the cashier and Jasmine- once again, no last name- the waitress.
He had a suspicion- no he was very sure that Danny was a meta, one who had power over ice. They never ran out of ice, the space behind his counter was always cold (Well he did man the ice cream parlor and the drinks, but still), he quite literally watched the guy freeze someone's coffee when they tried to complain it was too hot and the most damming thing.
Their ice cream machine was never, not even once, broken.
Vlad was most definitely a fire meta, the temperature always seemed to rise whenever he was in the room, and his kitchen was a goddamn furnace, no one who didn't have at least some kind of fire resistance would be able to go in there with an apron and stay there for hours on end.
He was also very defensive over his kitchen for some reason, Tim thought it was because of the insane heat which might be part of the reason, but even to his own workers he doesn't allow them inside. Tim managed to overhear his reason as to why though.
"No offense, and in the most respectful way I can put this. But you two just throw food in the oven and hope it doesn't gain sentience."
Tim thinks he probably didn't mean that literally.
Jasmine couldn't be flagged as a meta, but he does think there's something about her. Probably has a pretty solid foundation in martial arts, or ballet, because her balance is impeccable. He quite literally watched her dance her over to different tables with multiple plates on her body.
Tim didn't think there was any type of connection between the Masters takeover and the restaurant, and technically he should be alerting Bruce to the two new metas in Gotham but.
They have a coffee to die for.
No, he should probably be telling Bruce, or at least another one of the family...
Maybe after he stops by and grabs himself a coffee, oh and most definitely one of their ice creams too.

obligatory dukes childhood bedroom appreciation post, this bad boy can fit so many hyperfixatation headcanons
Tumblr media
ignore Bruce on the iv this ain't abt him..anyway childhood duke hcs for your viewing pleasure
-classic fave of mine is that dukes career as a forever dm started when he ran a campaign for a bunch of older kids when he was like 10 at the library
-and dukes favorite place was DEFINITELY the library when he was a kid. it was like baby's first mutual aid. he always returned his books on time. If there was an event, he was there, elaine and doug made sure of it. he feels like a know it all kid, the type who got in trouble for reading books about wizards under the desk instead of paying attention
- older hc but I think her wrote warrior cats fanfic basically but w dragons instead I just know he did in my heart
-in we are robin duke mentions an old childhood dream of wanting to be a paleontologist (mainly cuz he liked solving things and putting pieces together) but I dully belive the pipeline went wizards > dragons > dinosaurs (baby duke basically thought dinosaurs were like irl dragons

Danny at the tender age of 23, has had a bad month. He had just lost his job as an interpreter with his company due to rejecting the advances of one of the older female bosses and his landlord was trying to screw him over on rent.
It honestly surprised him when he woke up one day with his wrists bound in front of him and trapped in a tube. He had been out of the hero game since the portals closed up years ago and Vlad lost his powers, so it had been a while since the whole "kidnapping" thing had happened to him.
He looked out through the glass of the tube as he turned intangible to let the IV needles fall out of his arms. There luckly wasn't any glowing green goo in the tube with him, but he doubts it will stay that way long as the scientists outside his containment chatted happily about "the discovery of the decade!" Ick.
He waits till they're gone before turning intangible slipping out of his tube and heading straight for the computer. He knew how to hack, but he was low on time and needed to know exactly what was going on, so some ghostly meddling with electronics were necessary. Sorry Tuck.
It was at this moment he found out several things.
1. Danny had apparently been here for several months instead of the few days he had initially assumed
2. He was found somewhere in his own thermos, asleep. Luckily they haven't been able to replicate any technology from it.
3. Superheros were a very real thing now. How long had he been asleep?
4. He had been cloned. Again. But this time he had someone else's DNA mixed in with the clones to make them more stable and intelligent. Some guy named Red Robin. Huh. Was that his real name or...?
Danny took a deep breath before locating his new clone kids. Ellie would be thrilled...if she was still around that is. He could think about that later, right now he had to grab his babies-and oh ancients- they were babies! The oldest of the three looked four years old at most and the youngest looked only a few hours. He was still all pink and alien looking.
Luckily his children didn't fight him when he picked them up and flew through the walls with them. He made a mental note to teach them stranger danger when he came across a large red button.
You won't believe what it was labeled as. Yep. A self destruct button. How cliché. Whatever. He pushed it and sirens immediately started to go off and he continued flying them through walls before exited into a dark gothic city he knew Sam would immediately love.
Somehow he managed to immediately land a job as a linguist for Wayne tech. Probably thanks to the three small kids he had and the panicked look on his face. Bruce was a really chill dude.
Batman however, was a prick. He met the guy weeks after his run in with Bruce and he kept popping up after he found out the clone babies were partially from one of his birds and trying to take custody away from him or convince him to give them up. Danny retaliated by spreading the rumor/truth that his kids where Red Robins from creepy cloning scientists that kidnapped him before immediately moving out of Gotham and into Fawcett City to work for a competitors company. This way Red couldn't legally go after him for custody without revealing his identity :)
This is how Red Robin, at the tender age of 25, learned he had kids with a man named Daniel Nightengale. Not only that, Bruce knew about them and didn't tell him.
Danny made it clear that if any of the Gotham Rouges tried to follow him and harm his kids they would come back missing a hand. Joker found out the hard way that he wasn't bluffing.
Shazams old guy mentor almost has an aneurysm when he senses the freaking GHOST KING living in Fawcett. Danny is also much more powerful then ever before and accidentally made the power go out in half the city when he got truly angry with Batman.

The Death of Batman
Four years. Four years since the streets of Gotham have seen Batman. Four years since the Justice League has seen Batman. Four years since the Robins have seen Batman.
And now he stands, in full gear, mask and cape and all, in front of a podium in broad daylight with a microphone in his face, surrounded by cameras. The audience is still. No one dares make a sound. No one dares ask why, after all this time, he is here now. No one dares to say it, but he’s different than they imagined he’d be. He is tall, yes, and his shoulders broad and sturdy enough to carry the whole weight of the world, but they see his weariness etched in the lines of his mouth, the only part of his face they have ever been able to see. For the first time, they see, not some cryptid of the night meting out justice, but a man. Just a man in a suit. No one dares say it, but he looks tired.
For a long time, he is silent.
When he does speak, his voice is softer than they expect—tinged with the first hints of age.
“I have watched this city for so long.”
The people of Gotham hold their breath.
“For so long, I have been your knight, your judge, your hero…. No, not your hero. It’s been a long time since I’ve been anyone’s hero.” He sighs and all the burdens of darkness and justice escape with his breath. “I am so tired.”
His enemies wait in the shadows. Everyone knows they’re there, waiting for an opportunity. Never has Batman announced his presence so publicly. Never has he handed himself so neatly to them, and with so many potential hostages and casualties around his stage. But they find themselves frozen. This is not the voice they know, not the gruff growl that haunts their nightmares. He is tired. They hear that, and this is familiar in a different way. They have all, villain and civilian alike, felt this exhaustion themselves. And so, they wait to see what he will say next.
“I don’t know if I’m doing the right thing. I don’t know if I’ve ever done the right thing. My children are hurting. I have hurt my children.” His voice catches. He takes a moment, looks up at the sky, blue and cloudless and bright. “I just want them to come home.”
He pauses, head tilted upwards before looking back at the people of Gotham, people he saved, people he fought and locked away—all of them, in one way or another, people that he has tried to help. People he has tried to protect.
“The Batman,” he says, “is retiring.”
Somewhere, a pin drops, and the echoes reverberate around the world. No one notices, but in the crowd, among reporters, a tall, barrel-chested man with dark hair and thick-rimmed glasses smiles. It’s a small smile, a twitch of the lips. He meets Batman’s eyes over the tops of the heads of Gotham’s citizens. He nods, barely perceptible, and the man behind the black mask stands just a little taller.
“That is all. Thank you.”
And just like that, Batman is gone. No one stops him as he walks off the stage. No one stops him as their Dark Knight, their strange and mysterious vigilante, disappears into the shadows and out of their lives forever.
--
The first to return is Jason. He knocks on the door with all the casual confidence of Gotham’s premier crime boss, duffel bag slung over his shoulder, eyes so green they may as well be glowing.
When Bruce opens the door, he looks the old man up and down. “I’m assuming my old room is still available?” His smile is half-cocked and arrogant as ever, but there’s uncertainty furrowed in the space between his brows. If you didn’t know him, you wouldn’t see it at all.
Bruce sees it. And of all the things Jason excepts—the door slammed in his face, all the security systems of Wayne manor targeting his chest and head, a lecture at the very least—what he doesn’t expect are the tears that well up in Bruce’s eyes. He doesn’t expect to be wrapped tightly in his strong arms, arms that feel so much smaller than he remembers.
“Oh my boy,” Bruce whispers into his chest. “Oh my sweet, strong boy. I’m so sorry. I’ve missed you so much. I’m so glad you’re home.”
And it’s too much. The man behind the red hood, the man who beat Tim within an inch of his life, the man who shot Damien in the back in an effort to kill his own pain, crumples. In his father’s arms he is reduced to that 15-year-old boy who died and came back to life. The 15-year-old boy who, after all this time, only ever wanted to come home.
--
The rest showed up one by one that very same day. Dick showed up first with Tim and Damien in tow, surprised—not that Jason was there—but that he had beat him home. Then Barbara, Duke, Stephanie. It wasn’t long before the house was full of every single Robin and Batgirl who ever passed through these halls. Draped over chairs and couches (or, in Dicks case, swinging from the chandelier in the foyer while Tim and Damien did their best to use him—unsuccessfully—as target practice).
Not much changed in Gotham, after that. The villains didn’t retire with Batman, just as they didn’t disappear with Batman four years ago. But neither were they given free reign of the city, for Batman had ensured so, so long ago that there would always be someone to protect his home and his people. Gotham would always have their symbols of hope, their bats of blue and red and green and purple and yellow. New symbols that filled the night with a rainbow of colors.
And when their work was done, they returned to the manor, where their father would dress their wounds, mend their capes, and make them heaping piles of pancakes and eggs (“Yes, Dami, you have to finish the eggs. I won’t have some villain getting the better of you because you don’t have enough protein in your system”) with bowls of fruit and fresh squeezed orange juice. Bruce was, at the very least, a better cook than Alfred had been.
Things weren’t perfect. There were wounds that couldn’t be healed with a simple hug and a few tears. Wounds that would take years of therapy and hard talks and patience to fully close over. Bruce never told them where he’d been for those four years, and they never asked. This was the beginning of something entirely new for all of them.
But for the first time since anyone could remember, the sun shined bright and warm over the city of Gotham.
--
Writer’s Note:
This is an idea I have debated with close friends—the retirement of Batman. The main issue boils down to this: what becomes of Gotham without their symbol of hope? And to me, the answer is simple. Nothing. Because Batman is no longer their only symbol of hope. He hasn’t been for a long time, since he first took in Dick Grayson, that colorful bird of a boy. I think, in all honesty, that this is the true purpose of the Robins. Maybe Bruce himself didn’t realize it at the time, but he always hoped for something brighter for Gotham than Batman. Bruce has always been a reflection of Gotham. “The hero they deserve.” In a way, by taking in each sidekick, he adds another possibility, not just for the people of Gotham, but for himself too. A brighter future. Isn’t this what we all hope for our children?

Jason: Bruce was never straight
Dick: How would you know
Jason: He saves people in a batsuit, wears turtlenecks and suits and he spends approximately three hours on his hair
Dick: What are you? A stalker
Jason: Nope, I got the information from our own gay brother
Tim: No offense, Dick, but it was always obvious

Found in the Fort
Requested by: ANON
Prompt: “Your eyes are the prettiest things I’ve ever seen”
Pairing: Dick Grayson x Reader
Warnings: Pretty heavy toxic family. Nothing graphic, but still.
Tumblr media
“I’ve never met the parents before.”
“I’ve never introduced a boy to my parents before.”
“That’s not really all that comforting.”
“It wasn’t meant to be.”
Dick shoots you a look, and your lips quirk up. To be honest, you’re dreading this meeting more than he is. On the other side of the restaurant doors await your parents and two older sisters. Your parents, while rich, had been unhappily married for nearly twenty years now.
Then there were your sisters. Jill was a high profile business executive who chose not to have a relationship. The other, Jan, was a partier who was intent on being a reality TV star. And then there was you. You were messed up in your own particular way, but you’d sought help. Your therapist had worked wonders in getting you over your troubles with relationships and teaching you how to deal with your parents.
You feel Dick place a hand on the small of your back, “Are you okay?”
You don’t look at him, “I’m just going to apologize now.”
“Nothing that happens tonight is your fault.”
You pull away and walk to the bench a few steps away; he follows. You take a few deep breaths and look at him, “I know nothing they do or say is my fault, but man I don’t want to do this.”
He takes your hand in his, “We can always go.”
You shake your head, “No. I need to do this. Let’s go.”
He squeezes your hand once, and the two of you go inside. You spot your father immediately. He smiles at you, Jill looks up from her phone long enough to wave, your mother continues drinking, and Jan continues taking selfies.
The night goes about how you would expect. Your father drills Dick on his plans for the future and his career. You can tell he’s not a fan of the detective thing. Your oldest sister barely says hi, your mother asks questions that border on too personal, and your other sister keeps trying to take pictures of him.
Halfway through dinner you’re mentally drained, and you excuse yourself to the bathroom. You’re in the middle of washing your hands when Jan comes in. She pauses at the sink. You begin the countdown in your head, you only reach five before she asks, “How the hell did you land Bruce Wayne’s adoptive son?”
You turn the water off, “He has a name.”
“Who cares. I can’t believe you haven’t locked him down yet. I mean, I know he’s a cop, but still, when his old man dies that money has to go somewhere.”
You bite the inside of your cheek as anger wells inside you, “I’m not with him for his money.”
“Please.”
“Believe it or not Jan, money isn’t the most important thing to some of us.”
She looks at you, “What family did you grow up in? Mom and dad hate each other, but they won’t get divorced because of the money. Jill works her ass off so she has the same money. Me? I find rich guys who can do the work for me. And your rich guy? He has the prettiest eyes I’ve ever seen.”
That’s the last straw, “Go to hell Jan. If you want to be like mom and dad and Jill, you go right ahead. Not me.”
You head out of the bathroom. You stop long enough at the table to grab Dick, “We’re leaving.”
He doesn’t even try to disguise his relief, “Thank God.”
You ignore the calls of your family as the two of you head out. Once you’re out in the fresh air, you suck in a deep breath.
Dick waits for you to say something, “Man . . . my family sucks.”
“Yeah. They do. Do you feel better?”
You smile and look at your husband, “About not having them in Eleanor’s life? Yeah. About not having them in our lives? Yes again.”
He wraps an arm around your shoulder and starts guiding you down the street, “I still have no idea why they reached out after all this time.”
Dick nods, “I might. Your dad was hinting at money troubles while you were in the bathroom.”
You feel a headache coming on, “Makes sense. They disowned me when I stopped playing their games. We’ve been together five years, married three. They didn’t come to the wedding or even call when I had the baby, but hey, when they’re running out of money . . .”
Dick brings you in close to him. He wraps himself around you in a protective bubble, and he kisses your forehead. “Let’s go home.”
It’s much earlier than expected when you walk into your apartment. There’s a large blanket fort in your living room, and you can smell fresh cookies in the kitchen. You hear giggling in the fort. You silently slip off your shoes and crawl in, with Dick right behind you. You find Bruce, Jason, Tim, and Damian in the fort they’re all reading. Eleanor is in there too, fast asleep on Bruce’s chest. You smile at the sight.
They don’t ask any questions and you’re grateful for that. Instead, Bruce seamlessly passes your sleeping daughter to you. You and Dick cuddle her close and you thank the Lord for this family you found.
