If you are in the USA today, go VOTE!!!
So many people only vote in presidential elections when it is the smaller more local elections that have so much control over your lives!!! The president is not a king and can effect NOTHING if they have a hostile congress!! Congresspeople come from smaller local government offices! VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!
If you don't show up to vote against, then you are voting for. A mediocre candidate who votes FOR you in office most of the time is still better than a hostile candidate who will vote against you while in office. If you can't vote for, then at least vote against!
Vote LOCAL!
School Board – Your local School Board is responsible for:
Content of your sex education including gay sex & safety, and all the sexual variants that real people have.
whether gay marriage can be talked about in school
whether a child gets called their chosen name vs their dead name in class.
all policies about trans kids, including anti-bullying policies
whether or not your school has to tell parents that you are identifying as queer. (If a kid is not telling their parents that they are some form of alt/queer/non-b THERE IS A REASON FOR IT. Schools telling these parents can result in abuse, shaming, being kicked out of the house, being 'beaten straight' etc.)
Access to gender affirming care in the clinic or counselor's office
Book bans – school book bans are often used as a step/justification for book bans at the local library.
The content of your history class. Whitewashing slavery. Whitewashing Nazi Germany. Whitewashing colonialism.
And much, much more. In addition, School Boards are often a stepping stone to larger offices. The progression is: School Board, City/County board, State office, National office. If you want state and national officials to support you, you have to grow them at the LOCAL LEVEL!!!
City/County Government:
How much money schools get. (And therefore can effect/dictate policies.)
How much money cops get. (And therefore can effect/dictate policies.)
How much money public services (firemen, local health services, libraries etc) get.
Local government regulations & laws (i.e. being arrested for 'indecency' because you are in drag.)
And again, don't forget that these are the 'feeder' offices that lead to government offices. These people go on to state offices!!
Your STATE Legislature is responsible for:
All abortion policies. Since Roe v. Wade has been tossed there is no federal prevention against any abortion policies.
All sexual health policies. From birth control to sex changes. Their laws can range from sensible to inhumane.
All CIVIL RIGHTS policies that are not explicitly guarded and monitored by the federal government are left up to the states. Take a look at Louisiana, Florida, Mississippi, Arizona, etc. if you want examples.
And, of course, they can dictate policies to smaller municipalities (see City/County).
The most likely State office that leads to the presidency is Governor or a state. If you want better presidents, you need better governors!
Gerrymandering:
“But...but, but... I am gerrymandered so it doesn't make a difference if I vote!!” It DOES! If you are in a gerrymandered district and the crazy left wing crusader wins with a landslide because you DID NOT VOTE, then their party will keep putting in crazy right wing crusaders! If the vote is closer, EVEN IF YOU LOSE, their party is more likely to put in a more centrist candidate because they don't want to risk losing the seat. In addition, voting records are used to determine 1) the NEXT time areas are redistricted and 2) To show severe gerrymandering to courts to OVERTURN gerrymandered districts and force a redistricting. Right now there are people who are wining court case after court case to force redistricting of gerrymandered states and they are using voting data to do so!!! VOTE!!!
Please re-post this. Please blaze this. Please pass it on. PLEASE VOTE!

I doubt the New Yorker has many Republican readers. He probably wouldn’t lose much of his audience by being more vocal. I do think his actual politics are liberal
This was actually one of my initial breakup theories. Because it was right around the time of the leak about the Roe vs. Wade overturn and it’s obvious this shitty SCOTUS is gunning to overturn gay marriage next. I could see them having a fight about that, like, if you’re not going to say something publicly now then what are your values. But I think if they broke up over politics then they wouldn’t be so secretive about it (I think)
I think breaking up over politics would have been the least objectionable by the public. People know Jon’s stance on this. They'd completely understand.
They're absolutely coming for gay marriage, and honestly, even if they weren't, he should defend his own community. They're banning drag for fucks sake. Say something about that.

We already stood on the statehouse steps protesting the heartbeat bills. It’s clear massive protests are not enough to protect us. Today we stand against the Supreme Court, which would strike down Roe v. Wade. They are ready to rule early this summer.
This upcoming ruling only the latest blow in an onslaught against the people. Women and trans-people fear unwanted pregnancy, medical peril, and a lifetime obligation of unpaid and underappreciated domestic work that we didn’t ask for.
The scope of these attacks on our freedoms are broad. When right-wing takes aim at reproductive health, family planning organizations and their funding… we are in danger of losing access to needed care that is only tangentially related to pregnancy, such as cancer screenings.
Under Democratic power, the right-wing is now so close to ending our legal right to choose. Joe Biden make an unfulfilled campaign promise to codify Roe v. Wade. but as president, but he did not give his support to ending the filibuster to allow Democrats to vote to legalize abortion. Democrats have so far failed to protect abortion through legalistic means.
If the Supreme Court ends Roe, the consequences are serious. It would be the biggest victory for the right-wing in a generation. They will next attack access to contraception, gender affirming healthcare, marriage equality, and more.
We can’t wait for Democrats to fix this. Democrats, just like Republicans, prioritize the stability and profitability of the capitalist system. Our state establishments have made the wrong decisions on abortion, on gay marriage, on desegregation – until mass movements of working people forced the ruling class to concede.
Worldwide, we are at a crucial time for the fight for reproductive rights. Mexico, Poland and Argentina have won struggles against attacks on their abortion rights. We must follow their example and build pressure to stop the ruling.
Let us take the fight to our communities and workplaces. Let’s escalate our struggle with walkouts, occupations, and strikes. We can begin by holding public organizing meetings to put together these plans.
Unionization campaigns at Starbucks and Amazon are mobilizing mass struggle and class consciousness. Unions have a vested interest in fighting for the health care of their members. It benefits them for us to win full legal abortion. We need these unions to join us and organize their members to take action in defense of abortion.
With our allies and momentum, we will not merely defend Roe vs Wade. But also demand Medicare for All with full reproductive and gender affirming care.
DEMANDS
To defend and expand our reproductive freedoms, we must go on the offense with strong demands.
The Supreme Court uphold Roe v. Wade!
We must organize walkouts and strikes to defend abortion
Democrats should immediately end the filibuster, legalize and codify abortion!
Congress must pass Medicare for All with abortion on demand, full reproductive and gender-affirming care for all!
We must unite and struggle against all gender and sexist oppression!
We must end the two party system with an independent working-class party and commit to defending the interests of working-class women, queer and trans people, and people of color.
thanks: JUST & other socialist organizations in collaboration at the Statehouse & Ohio Supreme Court

I know we are concerned about trump rolling back many rights such as Roe v Wade and gay marriage etc, and if there was ever a time it would be done it would be now with the court the way it is but I wonder sometimes if those two issues are kinda like carrots dangling in front of a horse. A major issue we have is the left has nothing to unite them there are so many ideas about what needs to be done and it's impossible to have everyone be represented by one person. (1)

the right seems to push most everything to the side for the issues of abortion and gay marriage, and I guess guns and money. To me it feels like there would be benefits to stringing them along in order to get their votes year after year. Fighting to keep a law doesn’t give the same fire as fighting to change something as seen by how many on the left are willing to not vote cause Biden is exactly like trump despite the very real threat of the loss of these rights. I don’t mean like there is no reason to worry/vote cause it won’t happen, I think the threat the most serious its ever been but I wondered your thoughts on how much these issues are used to keep the GOP votes rolling in or if you think they’d struggle once those issues were gone or am I totally wrong, ha. It’s frustrating as a christian (or was idk anymore its turned so ugly) to watch others give up their morals for something they might not get just cause they are so simple to manipulate imo
I won’t lie to you, anon, this was... hard to make sense of, so let me open by restating what I think you’re trying to say? it seems like maybe you’re arguing that abortion and gay marriage are hot button issues that generate a controversial polarity where everyone is driven to vote based on their position on those issues, so if those issues were no longer on the table there would be nothing to keep people actively participating. it also seems like maybe you resent this because you’d like to vote your morals, but based on these controversial social issues you’re being forced to take a political position you don’t align with fully.
here’s what I think you’re right about: the american two-party system forces a polarity that favors centrism, or has up to this point. yes, the left is a collection of extremely variant positions that are forced further and further center-right as a party as a result of the right becoming increasingly fundamentalist. this is arguably the greatest flaw in american policy construction: the founders did not believe that anyone after george washington would ever garner 51% of the popular vote, meaning that there would always be a tie and then the senate, representing the states, would choose the next president. basically, they set up a system much more like the british bicameral legislature than what we have now, where the states would select the next president from among themselves. but because the federalists and democratic republicans mobilized the way they did, we have the system we have now, where every issue is essentially black and white; either yes or no.
dichotomies are inherently problematic, and while I do not agree that the left lacks unity in their policies, you’re correct that a “true” left does not exist in the united states; aka bernie and even warren should not be democrats if biden is also a democrat. that’s fair, or would be, if we did not have only two ideologies to choose from.
I do think there are some flaws with your premise (? as I interpret it) that these specific social issues are “hot” and/or controversial enough to drive people to the polls vs. being the actual, true defining issues for each party. I disagree. the politics of abortion are not about the value of human life, but the autonomy of women. the politics of marriage are not about whether homosexuality is morally reprehensible, but about whether the state should allow faith-based policy to control how two consenting individuals choose to live. in my mind, these positions are consistent with the concept that government should interfere against systemic prejudices, especially where it’s necessary to maintain our foundational separation of church and state.
the fact is also that the right is a mess. a true conservative party in this country would oppose ALL government regulation; they should be anti-gun regulation AND pro-choice, and essentially pro-everything that isn’t government interference. the fact that the republican party doesn’t fall within these theoretical lines is a flaw as a result of who holds power in that party: white christian men. in order to maintain their social power, they bend their political agenda wherever necessary to ensure that women and minorities do not gain autonomy where they have always maintained control. this is what unites the right, which means that the “left,” which is really more center AND everything left of center, supports politics that do dignify minorities.
would this be the case if we had multiple political parties? probably not, so your frustration is shared by many. you’ve probably heard this many times, but essentially the argument for biden, even by those who know he will not provide them the policies their consciences dictate, is that he has already shown he—and the party—can be pushed further left. he did not sign on with concepts of the green new deal until bernie and liz warren’s campaigns dictated that politically he needed to, at which point AOC signed on to help him build his own. so is he perfect? no. but if biden wins, there is room to keep fighting for what we want from democratic policy; he is responsive to public pressure. if 45 wins, we lose, end of story. fascism cannot be pushed.
morals are difficult to argue when it comes to politics. for example, the very popular but nonsensical “socially liberal but fiscally conservative” dichotomy is an untenable paradox that a person can only hold as a beneficiary of the existing system. when only one group of people has maintained generational/inherited wealth that allows them to benefit from a lack of social programs and government intervention, of course there is no such thing as having only one foot in the water. the overlap between the christian agenda and white supremacy is also difficult to separate, because while theologically christianity should promote certain values, christianity as an institution was born from imperialism, forced conversion, and a doctrine of constant proselytization. I say this as a catholic; I don’t dislike religious beliefs. but the way religion motivates political decisions is fundamentally flawed.
if your argument (or the argument of those around you) is that the problem with this election is that the left is a collection of ideologies lumped together in order to oppose some very narrow policy decisions, yes, you’re right. but if we pushed even remotely left from where we are now, we might be closer to the center, and then we can continue to push left. I would argue not that this is a time to abandon your principles just to win the presidency, but to at least be unselfish enough to realize that institutional change must be affected incrementally; to recognize that even if your life is not severely affected by 45 and the republican party winning over biden and the centrist-dems, far-right or alt-right policies do undoubtedly cause damage to countless others. you may not get everything you want from biden, but the opportunity to continue to achieve policy decisions you support is there.
try not to allow others around you to create a false dichotomy where this is somehow a choice between two evils; it isn’t. it’s a choice between a closed door and an open one, and even a baby step is a step.

TLDR: Republicans believe themselves to be infallible and cannot be convinced otherwise
Republicans think America is perfect and always has been, while simultaneously believing that America is DOOMED and ON THE EDGE OF COLLAPSE at all times and want to bring us back to the Before Times™ when men were men and women were household appliances and minorities were someone else’s problem.  If you bring up a genuine critique of American culture or history they throw a pissbaby shit fit and start spewing nationalist platitudes, “America: Like It or Leave It!”  All their complaints stem from their perceived self-importance being eroded; they don’t like to realize that other people with differing opinions exist and should have their voices heard.  If a “brown” or a “black” or a “red” or a “yellow” is allowed to speak, that just means there’s one less space for a “white.”  All their complaints come from a slippery slope argument that if we don’t model our society after their specific cherrypicked interpretation of The Bible then we will degenerate into amoral savagery.
They say being gay is an abomination and allowing it will damn our children to hell; what they really think is that it’s gross and they don’t want to see things they think are gross.  There’s literally no good argument against marriage equality besides “I don’t personally like it.”  America is not a theocracy, so the belief system of Christianity should not be construed as the law of the land.  This stems from their belief that the Bible is infallible, “because the Bible says so.”  They don’t know and don’t want to know about the history behind it, nor the very contentious political landscapes at the times the books were written, nor the personal biases of the very human authors.  If the Bible is a literal textbook, then why?  What makes it so special?  By whose authority were its contents collated and designated THE Good Book?  If the Bible is literal, why not the works of Homer, or the Epic of Gilgamesh?  Just because the Bible says the Bible is right doesn’t make it so.  For the record, I am a Christian, and I think the Bible is just an old book.  I’m a Christian in that I follow the teachings of Christ, which can be summed up as “DON’T BE AN ASSHOLE.”  I live by that, and All the ChrINOs (Christians in Name Only) need to learn it.  Jesus would be ashamed of what he saw today.
They say that abortion is baby murder, on par with ritual human sacrifice and Satan worship. They don’t understand biology, they have a Sunday School understanding of philosophy, and live in a world so black and white that they can’t even imagine a reason someone would have an abortion besides that they’re a terrible person; a woman who would have an abortion is unfit to be a mother in their eyes because they see abortion as equivalent to smothering a baby with a pillow because you don’t want to take care of it anymore.  “He or she is alive, he or she has a heart beat!”  Well, at this point is is just a blob of tissue, not a living person; a heart beat alone does not make something alive or dead.  Your life comes from your brain, not your heart.  If someone is alive the moment their heart starts, then they must be dead the moment is stops, so CPR is necromancy.  A person isn’t considered dead until their brain is dead, so if they wanted to argue that life begins at brain activity they would have a stronger argument, though still weak because brain activity is not personhood either.  Patients in permanent vegetative states on life support may have some brain activity, but they are effectively dead.  There is no way a judge, appointed by senators elected by the people of the United States, can prove that not only do souls exist but that they are created the second a sperm fertilizes an egg.  If “souls” exist, they aren’t so much created as built up over time as we gain new experienced and our brains develop.  What we are is electricity in a ball of meat jelly in our skulls, and that comes to being at a point after which abortions are already banned.  Conservatives also just want to control women; Roe v. Wade isn’t explicitly about the right to an abortion, it is about the right to body autonomy.  Do women have the right to control their own bodies, or do they defer that right to their fathers and husbands?  Are women people or property?  Can a man make decisions on a woman’s behalf?  “You must forgive my daughter; as a simple minded woman she’s fallen into a stupor of female hysteria.  We’ll have the family doctor bring out the smelling salts and leaches.”
They say that certain vices are crimes against God, but only when some people do it.  Divorce is a sin because marriage is sacred, except when a conservative does it, then it’s totally justified because of such and such explanation.  Tattoos are the mark of the beast, worn by degenerates and lesbians, except when a conservative does it, then it’s just art and harmless self expression.  Marijuana is a gateway drug and we need to lock away its addicts and throw away the key, unless a conservative does it, then it’s just recreational, no big deal, we don’t want to ruin the [white] boy’s future because of it.  A black person who does cocaine is a criminal, a white person who does cocaine is a public figure (you’d be surprised how many actors and politicians regularly use coke; they have to have high energy 24/7 in case there are any cameras, so they need uppers to keep themselves presentable).  This all springs from the fundamental conservative philosophy of “it’s okay when WE do it, but not when YOU do it.”  That’s the long and short of it.  The in-group is allowed to do things, but the out-group isn’t.  It’s the Us vs Them mentality taken to the logical extreme; WE are people, THEY are monsters.  WE are allowed to have faults, THEY have to stay in line and follow all the rules.  OUR lives matter, THEIR lives are lesser.  When you strip away the showy bits and get down to the core of their beliefs, everything stems from their desire to hurt anyone who isn’t them.  They want power, they want to be special, they want the Good Guys™ to always prevail over the Bad Guys™, and they want to be the ones to decide who is good and who is bad.  Their opinions are the only ones that matter, everyone else is wrong because they’re not them.  Now, it’s not like you could solve every problem by opening up your mind to new opinions; there are some issues that are indeed black and white with objectively right and wrong answers, but they live in a world where they are incapable of being wrong.  They see personal growth as a betrayal of the self, that admitting a fault is terrible, that apologizing and learning from a mistake is traitorous.  No, they have to double down on every single one of their beliefs to re-instill it in their minds.  They can never doubt themselves, because God will punish them forever if they ever have doubt.  They can’t ask questions or look at things from other perspectives because that would be an admission that their perspectives are fallible.  They are afraid of changing their minds so much that they refuse to even listen when someone explains their opinions because they don’t want to have their minds co-opted by Satan’s LIES!  If they hear something convincing, it’s all over, their entire world collapses, everything they believe is a lie, they lose, they go to hell forever, The End.
That is the dichotomy under which Republicans live their lives.  Nothing matters but what they believe.  They don’t believe what they believe for logical reasons, so no amount of logic will ever make them not believe it.  They’re making up their own rules to win.  You’re playing Rock-Paper-Scissors and they throw Nuclear Bomb, which defeats all three, so you lose.  You say that’s not fair, they say tough.  You throw Nuclear Bomb, and they say they have a bomb proof shield, so the bomb doesn’t hurt them but kills you, so you lose.  You can’t even beat them at their own game because they’ve been playing it longer, and they cry foul when you stoop to their level, suddenly saying that you need to be the bigger person, walking right up to the line of admitting that what they do is wrong but not quite getting there, simply reverting to the complaint that you shouldn’t be allowed to do it.  “I can, but YOU can’t.”  That’s why it infuriates me when nobody ever calls out a Republican for their hypocrisy.  They do something, a Democrat does that exact same thing, they cry foul, but nobody ever says “well, you didn’t have a problem when you did it,” they just try to excuse their own actions rather than demand justification for theirs.  Democrats are always on the defensive, they always look like they’re losing even when they’re winning, so the Republicans can use that to build their base and rally together for the occasional victory (Democrats won 7 of the last 8 presidential elections; the last Republican to legitimately win the presidency was George H.W. Bush in 1988).
I don’t know how you’d even begin to fight someone who is this far down the rabbit hole of self denial.
Democrats self-reflect, Republicans self-deflect.
Democrats are progressive, Republicans are regressive.
Now I’m sure there are no Republicans reading this, but if there are they’ll make themselves known and “totally refute” everything I’ve said with some paper thin argument that doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, but they don’t care because it stands up to them.  They only need to show one example of a Democrat failing to write off the entire party; they only need to show one black Republicans to deny the existence of racism; one gay Republican denies homophobia; one women denies sexism.  They are the party of tokenism.
They will point out the mote of dust in your eye and ignore the plank in their own.
Debate me, I have nothing better to do with my time, I’m a dirty libtard cuckflake soyboy beta with a case full of participation trophies and handouts paid for by other people’s tax dollars (funny, they think handouts are for degenerates, except when they get them.  Inheritance?  Privilege?  Never heard of them!)

Fifty Shades Of Blue
FIFTY SHADES OF BLUE
By:  Kelly Truth Orr, (Alternative Facts)
Fifty Shades Of Blue, why you might ask is that the name of my blog?
Well I guess it could be for a few reasons: One that I joined the Blue Haired Old Lady society this year turning 65.
This should be a time in which one should be enjoying our “Golden Years (not to be confused with golden showers which we will get to later), but rather I’ve been made to feel as though I am stealing from society.  Taking my Medicare which I paid for since I started making money when I was 15 years old. The other would be Social Security (which by the way I am waiting till I turn 66 so I don’t lose the few precious dollars that will be vital to my daily existence down the road when I’m not able to help supplement my income.)
The other reason for Fifty shades of blue is the color I turn every day, I feel angry, dishearten, depressed, hurt, suppressed, and angry.  Some would say I am unreasonable and don’t see the big picture.
What is the big picture?  That we are all supposed to drink the cool aide and follow along with a , and I use this term lightly, “Man” who has no morals, feelings, clue, as how to be a leader.  He is a dictator not a leader.  If you think that this man is in support of reversal of Roe vs Wade, or abolishing Gay Marriage you truly are drunk on that vodka he acquired from his bedmate.
I’ve been called a Snowflake, Angry Woman, Temper Tantrum throwing, unrealistic rule breaking, not having a GRIP on life, person that I doesn’t believe in God because I can’t support this evil, vile person. I guess I am angry, not because my side didn’t win, but because of the hatred that emits from every pore of this man and the almighty dollar is the only factor here.
I wish one person could tell me how they have suffered the last eight years under Obama.  Is it because he was a man of color?  I don’t see how our country was let down.  Yes I believe he could have done more things, but what president did we ever have that we felt everything was done that was promised or that we expected? I don’t know of one in history, but that might be because I am a woman and really couldn’t be right about somethings.
But please just one person show me how the last 8 years was terrible for this country.  I know some folks are upset over Obama Care (By the way it should have never dubbed that) it is the Affordable Health Care Act.  I myself benefited from having such care.  I was paying an outrageous amount of money that I couldn’t afford, for horrible health insurance, prior to the AHCA.  I know folks who bitch everyday about Obama Care, but they used it to its fullest, even so much as having their children covered by Medicaid, but yet it is an evil thing from an evil man.
I have always thought of myself as having a good heart, but I do have hate in my heart for this person who is making us a mockery.  I’ve never felt so much ugliness coming from one human being (it pains me to even call him that).  I am frightened for the future, for our social programs, for our children, for our environment, for our safety.  I know I am not the only person on this earth who this has affected my family ties.  I personally have more than one family member who is being led by the promise of Making America Great again, when I didn’t think that it was not so great already.
If you don’t think that this is racially motivated, you are wrong.  There are many undocumented folks in this country.  Ireland alone has a huge number, but do you realize that in 2014, 33 undocumented Irish folks were deported as opposed to 177,000 Mexican s.
Money seems to be the only fact here for this unnaturally colored man.  I sometimes wonder is it from makeup or does he truly have daily Golden Showers and this is the result of them?
As I sit here in the early hours of this morning watching a beautiful sunrise, I am pondering what will make me cry today, what will I feel like is yet another blow I have to take or what am I going to have to swallow today?  Oh because there will be something.  We may be on our way to having him leave office, but this will take time and oh the damage that will be done in that time could be irreversible.
Until the next time Fifty Shades Of Blue will bring you up to date into life from my point of view.
