Just watched Pet Sematary Bloodlines. I do appreciate them trying to make a prequel about Timmy and Jud's story but it just fell flat. Also Timmy wasn't even that scary. The baby in the original was scarier than him. Ludlow in the flashback of the founding families was the only scary character. To make Timmy screepy they should had him whisper "oh Donna" when he went after her.

are you going to watch dd’s pet sematary ?? i might do it bc i loved the book and tbh dd looks dilf in this movie 🫣
i did watch it! as someone who loves the book an incredible amount i found it to be a little disappointing. i talked about it here on letterboxd (beware that this might include spoilers, but if you read the book then you already know them). i am such a big fan of the concept of the movie--this centering around the timmy baterman story--but i just felt like the way it was executed was so...lackluster and bland. it KILLS me too because david duchovny had the potential to be really wonderful in this (and for what the material he gets in the movie, he does do a good job). idk i really do think you ought to watch it for yourself, even if i have just shit all over it. if not for the plot then for that one scene where dd is bent over the sink and you can see every muscle in his back. it added something to my life

There's enough material in Pet Sematary to make an excellent horror movie series and instead these people just decided to...retcon their own remake with the prequel? What? First of all the remake was a mess, but the prequel couldn't even stick to that.
They literally could have just made a slow, creeping prequel about Timmy Baterman, back from the dead after his own funeral, how he terrorized the town by creeping on women and taunting everyone with all their darkest secrets, worst thoughts, worst fears, and malicious lies. Maybe throw a couple killings in there that finally drives the townspeople and his own father to kill him and burn the house down. And that would have been fantastic. A stand-alone film.
And then they could keep going backwards! A film about how the white settlers didn't listen to the warnings. A film about the Mi'qmaq fending off the ancient evil long before the white settlers ever came (with respect to Indigenous peoples regarding how much to reveal about it).
I don't understand the insistence on making such bad movies with such great material.

Was reading some sections of Pet Sematary last night to get inspiration for a story. For some reason I always find myself reading Stephen King at night cause I’m an idiot.
Cut to me jumping at every little sound I heard completely sure it’s Church, Gage or Timmy Baterman coming back from the grave, even though I don’t have access to any sort of cursed burial ground, those are fictional characters and I certainly didn’t bury any of them there.

Finally got around to watching Pet Sematary Bloodlines. I knew it was a prequel to the remake, but yet I wish it would have followed the book a little more than it did. I would have liked to see Spot, and the final showdown of Timmy being burned in the house. Oh well, I enjoyed what we got! I'd definitely watch it again sometime, plus the run time is amazingly short for a modern movie. I like that :)
Shout out to the guy who played Timmy Baterman, good job!

I just finished watching Pet Sematary Bloodlines and, to all my fellow Stephen King fans, this aint it. Beware - spoilers and a lot of rambling.
I knew I shouldn't have expected much, but this was just all- around bad. It's like the producers didn't even read the original book. It felt cheap and gory and absolutly missed the mark to me. The last movie already did a great job ignoring all the core elements of the actual story but somehow this one did an even better job.
This was supposed to be a prequel about Judson Crandall and his experiences when he was younger. First of all - why did they leave Spot the dog out? That was the first time Jud got into contact with the burial ground and the concept of "Dead is better", this was supposed to be the start of the awful chain that continues in the original Pet Sematary book with the Creed family, why Jud felt compelled to even take Louis up to that place to bury Church the cat even after everything that happened. This is such a big part to leave out when you're trying to tell the story about the ancient burial ground and its sour earth. Jud knew about it and it's evil before the whole Timmy Baterman thing started.
Also, Timmy looked way too normal. The could do overly animated gore but somehow couldn't get a textbook version zombie right. He was supposed to look completely wrong, he was supposed to look and smell dead and leave horror in the hearts of people when they looked at him, In the movie he was just some angry, edgy guy with a tendency to stab people. I get that they wanted to make a scary movie and changed his character, but with that they missed the mark. The grief of Timmy's dad, the grief that led him to burying his son in that place and how miserable he became trying to live with an empty shell of what his son was supposed to be.
The whole point of grief, the action and aftermath and realization that dead is better was not there. They even started with Timmy's dad putting his boy in the ground with no explanation or whatsoever. Timmy was supposed to come home in a coffin after dying in the war. Why is it that nobody knew? It was a huge thing in the book.
Anyway, as I said - I shouldn't have expected much but this was just utter garbage. It's like they didn't even try. None of the movies were very good, but the 1989 movie version of Timmy was honestly much better.

I see you just finished reading Pet Semetary! I've been getting really into reading Stephen King lately and was thinking of adding it to my list, so what are some of your thoughts on it? How does it compare and contrast to some of his other works, to you? Thanks and have a great day!
Hi!! Well first you should know that this is my first Stephen King novel! I was destined to read his books someday. Everyone in my immediate family loves his work.
My thoughts on the book...It's been so, so, long since I last read a book. The last book I read was The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (and the rest of that series). I can't say that the writing itself really stood out to me. But I can't really say what I think would make it better. I really liked the book because the storyline was extremely intriguing. To say it hooked me is a huge understatement. It has it all. A forbidden secret place, dead things, a flesh and blood monster...I have a deep fascination with dead things (But not people. I don't like gore either). I love looking at carcasses and trying to guess what animal it was. I have a tiny collection of animal skulls (a wolf, a raccoon, and a bobcat) too!
I had a very beloved pet (Giovanni the cat) die suddenly just over a year ago. Of course I wondered if I would put him in the pet semitary, knowing that he wouldn't be the same as he was before. The book made me think a bit deeper about grief. I'm very blessed and I haven't had anyone close to me die yet (besides Giovanni, of course). At first I thought it was unrealistic that Louis would want to resurrect his son, having seen for himself that Church wasn't quite right and hearing the story of Timmy Baterman. It became clearer as the story progressed that there was a supernatural influence on his actions but I think he might have done it anyway without that influence. I might have done it with Giovanni and this was his two year old son.
I also love monsters. And I HATE being baited into thinking there's a live, flesh and blood, monster but then there isn't one. The Village was enjoyable but I was mad that that sick looking creature was just a damned costume. BOOOO. Sorry if I was rambling!! Those are some of my thoughts on Pet Sematary. Thanks for asking!!

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines(2023) Taking place sixty years before the remake of Pet Sematary, Jud and his girlfriend or wife? Never made clear, are off to join the Peace Corps when they almost run over the undead dog of Timmy Baterman.
This movie does so many things wrong that it truly hurts my brain. One: they omit the fact that Jud's dog comes back not the same so they can make him a clueless main character. Just a story that has jumpscares that are just loud noises essentially, and whoever directed this put no heart into it. This movie felt like an empty vessel. I was thinking as I watched this that I could as easily read the damn book. Sequels, prequels and remakes are becoming an absolute waste of time for me to watch.
A prequel to a remake that people generally have very little interest in. If they had made a prequel to the original Pet Sematary and got Mary Lambert back to direct and Stephen King to write, Maybe this would have been worth watching. And make it from Bill Baterman's perspective. It's movies like this that make me want to quit watching movies all together.
And David Duchovny as Timmy Baterman's dad. Maybe The Red Shoe Diaries needs a revival too, because David Duchovny probably acted better in that than he did this corpse of a movie.

I got wildly inspired after reading Pet Sematary. So I sqeezed these rough drawings out, I know I won't have the energy to finish them properly. Wanted to do more but these two were the only ones I was happy with.

i read your letterbox about pet sematary and i agree with you here : it always annoys me when they focus too much on the gore and the horror. what i love about stephen king’s books is that it’s so much more than just horror, it’s about human relations. the main focus of his stories is on the characters, the humanity, the emotions, etc. he has a way to tell how his characters feel that is so amazing you just can’t not feel empathy for them. and it’s often unfortunately mistreated in the adaptations.
yes!!! i'm relatively new to the world of stephen king (i've read pet sematary and i'm chipping away at misery now), but i find this to me true of most good horror. its definitely what attracted me to pet sematary for sure. to me, good horror always has something more to say than what's at its surface. its about grief, anxiety, anger; about the state of the world; about the ways we can feel trapped in who we are, and what we feel; about being the other. good horror never depends on the gore as much as it uses it to emphasis points in these harrowing narratives people chose to tell.
with pet sematary: bloodlines i felt like the heart of the story had been sucked out of it because they failed to really focus in on the humanity of the story. ultimately, at the end of the day, what happened to timmy baterman happened because bill baterman loved him so much. bill baterman could not bear the idea of never having timmy again, so much so that he went out of his mind and took it to extremes. timmy baterman was bill's last living kin, the only thing in the world that made life worth living, and what made it so horrible was not necessarily the gruesomeness of the resurrection. it was part of it, sure, but it was scary because it was so...human. the act of old bill baterman digging his dead son out of his grave, lugging him over sticks and beyond trees in the dark of night, and then shoveling hard, stony dirt to lay him down so he could come back, and be what--less than human? its terrible and tragic and painfully real to someone who is in the throes of a grief like that. its horrible because its familiar. the whimpering father with the dirt under his nails, shielding this not-human son of his while the boy spouts pure evil? when its so obvious that this is not his boy, that his body is only a vessel, and yet he can't help but love him anyway? that's good horror. when horror movies like bloodlines focus more on simple jump scares and the monster itself than they do the creation of the monster it doesn't work half as well.

Summary: The Winchester siblings have always relied on each others for years. But has the years passed they made a small family. Years and years of fighting monster have brought them to the town of Derry. With fight a creature that is not of this world have to the Winchester finally met their match?
My heart was racing and my breath was ragged. I felt Amelia nudge me. “I’m ok girl.” I said as I petted her head. I calmed myself down and went to go find a quite place that I can do research about the Creed and wendigo. Luckily I found an empty hallway. I sat down and put my bag to the side of me. I opened my laptop and started to do research for the case. I found some more articles about people who had buried their pets where Louis Creed buried his daughters cat. I found another article about someone named Timmy Baterman and how he died in WW2 out of grief his father buried him in the burial grounds. “Hey!” A voice said making me jump. I look at saw that Henry was walking towards me. I closed my laptop and started to get up. “I’m not going to hurt you for punching hockstetter.” Henry said as he sat down beside me. “Then why are you here?” I asked setting my laptop to the side. “I saw what happened between you and my dad. I wanted to make sure that you were ok.” Henry said. “That’s very sweet of you henry. I’m fine. I just rather not mention the encounter about to my brothers.” I said. “Why? What will they do? Not like they will kill him or anything.” Henry said. “You don’t know my brothers.” I said laughing a little. “The only thing they could probably do is put him jail.” Henry said looking down. I was getting this strange feeling that something wasn’t right. “Henry I know you haven’t know me for very long but if there is ever anything that goes down between you and your father you can talk to me ok. My brothers and I will help you.” I said. “There’s nothing that has ever went on between us.” Henry said. “I know when someone is lying. You can tell if and when you are ready.” I said getting up and grabbing my stuff getting ready for the bell to ring. I held out my hand for henry to take. Henry took my hand and I helped him up. “I will. I promise.” Henry said. “Whatever it is we know people that will be willing to help.” I said as we started walking to class. “Why would you help me?” Henry asked. “Why wouldn’t I help?” I asked. “Well I’m guessing your friends have told you about me.” Henry said. “Bits and pieces. But here is the thing though Henry. I have meet was worse people in the world than a school bully. I faced some monsters. Monster that you can’t even imagine.” I said. “Your brothers involve you with their works?” Henry asked. “I’m sorry?” I asked. “You said that your brothers work for the government. I’m guessing that they bring their work home with them.” Henry said. “Oh yeah right. Yeah they do.” I said. “Who do you have next?” Henry asked. I grabbed the piece of paper from my backpack. “Uh looks like Mr. Capaldi.” I said. “I have him I can show you if you want.” Henry said. “No I planed on just roam the halls.” I said jokily. “Oh very funny. Listen I should tell you that I don't blame you for what you did to Patrick.” Henry said. “You don’t?” I asked. “Patrick sometimes can over step his bounties.” Henry said. “Sometimes?” I asked. “Ok Patrick always over steps his bounties.” Henry said. “His probably pissed at me huh?” I asked. “Yes. But he wouldn’t mess with you.” Henry said. “Why?” I asked confused. “I told him that you are off limits.” Henry said as we walked into Mr. Capaldi class. “Even if you didn’t tell him I was off limits I could have handle myself.” I said. “At first I would have to disagree with you but now I believe that you could handle yourself. Can I ask you something?” Henry said as we sat down. “Yeah of course anything.” I said. “What happened to the dog that was outside with you?” Henry asked. Oh shit did henry watch Amelia turn back into her hell hound form. “What dog?” I asked trying to avoid the question. “I saw a Doberman outside with you. While you were getting your laptop out of your brothers car. The dog looked like it was guarding you. Then when my dad grabbed you the dog disappeared and something scared him.” Henry said. “Oh that dog. Sometimes dogs just come up to me. I’ve always been good with dogs. It must have ran off when you weren’t looking.” I said. “That the thing I kind of might have been watching you. When my dad grabbed you that dog disappeared out of thin air.” Henry said. Shit he saw. How in the hell am I supposes to explain that the dog that vanished into thin air was my pet hell hound. Then how do explain that I have a pet hell hound and who gave me the hell hound. “I didn’t notice that the dog disappeared.” I said. “Are you sure?” Henry asked. I nodded. “Can you not tell my brothers about my run in with your dad please.” I said. “Why?” Henry asked. “The last person that grabbed me the way your dad did my oldest brother beat them within a inch of his life.” I said. Ok maybe it didn’t help that dean was a demon and had the mark of Cain. “I won’t tell them but do you have to promise me that you will. If it came you they won’t hopefully beat him.” Henry said. “I will I promise.” I said.
Lucky the rest of the day went by quick. My last class I had with Stan and he walked with me as I went to go find Sam and Dean. “So how long are you and your brothers planning on staying?” Stan asked. “I don’t know. How ever long it takes to close the case I guessing why?” I said. “Well I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me, Richie, Eddie, and Bill sometime during the summer?” Stan asked. “That’s sweet of you to ask Stan but I would have to see. I might be busy with helping my brothers.” I said. “Why would you need to help them?” Stan asked. “I’ve kind of always helped them.” I said. We walked out of the school and I could see Eddie, Richie and Bill waiting on Stan. “Looks like your friends are waiting on you.” I said. “Where are your brothers? I wouldn’t want to leave you alone. I’m pretty sure the others would either.” Stan said. Then I saw both of them walking out of the school. “There they are. I’ll see you tomorrow. I’ll ask them if I can we can hang out during the summer.” I said waving bye to Stan as I walked over to Sam and Dean. “See that you made some friends.” Sam said. “Some. Stan asked if I could hang out with him and his other friends during the summer. I told him that I would be busy helping you two.” I said as I handed Dean back the keys to the impala. Both Sam and Dean gave each other a look then looked at me. “What?” I asked. “Well kiddo made you should spend sometime with kids your own age.” Dean said. “Are you serious? I can’t really waste my time when I could be helping you and Sam. We still have no idea what we are up against here and now we have a wendigo case just up the rode. How can I help if I’m hanging out with kids my age?” I asked. “Y/n we get what you’re saying. But it would do you some good to actually act your age. If we need help we will let you know.” Sam said. “Are sure this is what you two want me to do?” I asked. “Yes kiddo we’re sure.” Dean said. I nodded and we walked to the impala getting in and went back to the house we were staying in for the time being.
We stayed at the house for about three hours before we decided to head into the diner in town to eat dinner. I still haven’t told Sam and Dean about my run in with Henry’s dad yet. I plan on waiting till after we eat to tell them. Because Dean anger can be not as bad after he has eaten. “You ok?” Sam asked. “Yeah I’m fine.” I said. “You sure you’ve been quite since we left the school.” Dean said. “I just need to tell you two something after we eat is all.” I said. “Or you can tell us now.” Dean said. “It would be better if I tell you after you eat Dean.” I said. “Oh no you’re not kiddo. You will tell Sammy and I now.” Dean said. “It’s ok y/n. How bad can whatever you’re about to tell us be?” Sam said. “When I went to get my laptop from the impala earlier I had a run in with officer Bowers.” I said.  “What did he do?” Dean asked. “He made a comment about my tattoo and when I tried to leave he roughly grabbed me asking how old I was. Luckily Amelia was there with me. She transformed back into her hell hound form scaring him long enough for me to get away.” I said. “I’m going to kill him.” Dean said. “No you’re not dean. Did anyone see Amelia change?”  Sam said. “Yes Henry did but I talked him into saying he saw nothing. That’s not all.” I said. “What do you mean?” Sam asked. “Well Henry found me after it happened and wanted to make sure that his dad didn’t do anything else to me. I’m probably overthinking it but I think he’s dad beats him or something.” I said. “Do you know that for sure?” Dean asked. I shook my head. “You need to find out for sure and if you’re right we will do something about it.” Sam said. “I told him when he ever felt comfortable with telling me he can anytime. He said he would.”  I said. “When he does you let us know immediately ok kiddo.” Dean said. I nodded and we talked more about the two cases. Once we were done eating we paid and made our way back to the house. As we walked inside the house I could have swore I heard something. But I decided to just brush it off as nothing. I mean the house we were stay out was surrounded by woods so it could have been anything. But then again it could have also been what we were here to hunt and kill. I went to go take a hot bath. Luckily the house had two bathrooms one for the boys and one for me. I put my clothes I was going to wear to bed on the bathroom counter. I put my towel on the toilet as I started to run hot water into the tub. I stayed in the hot water for about twenty minutes when I got out. I grabbed my towel wrapping it around me as I grabbed my brush as I started to brush my hair while it was still wet. After I brushed my hair I brushed my teeth then put on my clothes. I picked up my clothes that I was wearing from the ground and my towel I just used and I took them to the laundry basket that had all my dirty clothes in it so I could wash them tomorrow. I walked back into my room turn off the light to the bathroom as I did. I went to grab my laptop that was on the desk in my room. By the desk was a window. Once I grabbed my laptop I looked out of the window to the tree line and that when I saw a clown.

If It Chapter Two was the best movie of 2019, than the worst one was... (in your opinion of course)
~~~~~~~~~~
I didn’t see that many movies this year, but from those I did see, the worst of the year would have to be another Stephen King remake - Pet Sematary.  Going in, I was skeptical of the changes I knew they were making from the book, but I was still excited to see what they did with it.  I thought they could really do something fun and new, but in the end, I came away completely disappointed.  I felt like they didn’t fully embrace the changes they made and use them to their advantage.  I was disappointed in the lack of development in Louis and Jud’s relationship, because that was always one of my favorite aspects of the novel and the original movie as well.  And how can they make a Pet Sematary movie without Timmy Baterman?  I know his story was included as a bonus feature on the DVD, but it completely loses its impact not being included in the actual film.  Seriously, I love some remakes obviously, but sometimes dead is better.  Church was cute though. 🐱
Thank you for the question! ❤️
