In the eighteenth century, for example, Dilworth stated that Montezuma grew “particularly fond of” Cortés, and on one occasion embraced him “with great affection.” The emperor was “perfectly well satisfied” with his state of virtual captivity within the city center, becoming “every day more and more attached” to his captor. In their excitement at inventing ways to justify the Spanish conquest of Mexico, early modern Europeans developed early yaoi and may be counted as among the first fujoshi (or fudanshi).
