Note: The version of the myth of Dionysos and Ariadne we state here is not perfectly adhering to the sources, but it was adapted a little by Arja, who frankensteined some versions and interpretations. The version that claims that Theseus didn't left Ariadne alone on Naxos willingly, but was instead told to do so by Dionysos himself, can be found in Diodorus Siculus (Greek historian of the I century a.C., Biblioteca Historica, 5. 51. 4). On the other hand, the correspondence between Dionysos and the Minotaur was taken from the analyses of Karolyi Kerenyi on the cult and the dionysian mysteries (in "Dionysos" and "The Gods and Heroes of Greece" in particular). Dionysos was as a matter of fact called by his followers in the mysteries "bull-horned god"... And also as a proper "Star", just as the Minotaur was (from his name, "Asterius", which means "Star"), as we can also find in Aristophanes (Frogs, 342) and Sophocles (Antigone, 1146).

Updates on what's happening right now and the next couple of days:

Sooo recently I've been busy with things like quitting college, receiving animal care certifications, doctor stuff, new job and of course volunteering. Al of which have been great and something that has boosted my confidence levels. BUT! As of a couple hours ago I just found out I have COVID-19, which is an absolute bummer because I was supposed to go to work tomorrow and to the zoo on Sunday for volunteering.

(BTW I almost went 3 years without COVID! Darn XD) (DW I've had all of my vaccinations, plus my booster vaccination a few months ago so I'm set).

Long-story-short I think I have some free time now that this has happened so hopefully my next chapter of my LB fic will be up.

Also on the brighter side of things I've got a new phone!

A Quick Update

Hey there, everyone!

I've been really quiet this year, and I know I'm sure you're tired of hearing this, but I didn't mean for it to be this way. A lot of things have happened offline, and continue to happen, and I am trying my hardest to keep my head above water.

I'm not here to give excuses, I'm here to say that I'm trying my best. I'm writing behind-the-scenes where I can. Believe me, every day I sit down and try my best to get something down in hopes of building a story for you guys. Some days it works, some days it doesn't.

My world stopped spinning, and then started again way too fucking fast for me to do anything about it. My goal for 2024 now is to simply survive it.

I can't say thank you enough to my besties @littledemon-lilith and @ofhawkinsandvecna for putting up with me. My brain has not been a fun place to be this year, and they've been right there with me to love & support me.

I'm working on myself. I'm building my life back. I'm trying not to let what happened keep me down. Some days that's easier than others. But just know I love you guys and I can't wait for the day I make my return.

To my TLB readers: Billy and Steve say hello. Billy waved Tank's fin hello to you all and let Tank send you all air kisses and hugs. The three of them are content in my Google docs, watching movies and snuggling and eating as many green grapes as a Little Billy's tummy can handle.

To my Saved from the Flames readers: Bob and Billy are reading The Hardy Boys and eating ice cream sundaes. Billy can't wait to show you the toys his Grandma and Grandpa brought him after his adoption! They love you and want to remind you to always look for the family you can create <3

another sort of merch related update thing, a while back I noticed an uptick in my redbubble activity came from TLB sticker sales so thank you to anyone that's got them! unfortunately I reluctantly k worded my RB sometime back because from my understanding they had updated the terms in a very. odd way so it sorta scared me off the platform. idk if I misinterpreted them but I would like to find a way to make them available again in the foreseeable future <:)

Chances - Chapter 1

A TLB fan story

Summary: It's 1988 and Jordan has been alone for a while now. She's tried to escape her past which has forever tied her to Santa Carla, but now has to learn to trust again. She also finds out that her past will always come back to haunt her.

This is my first ever fic and most likely one of my only ones. I plan on telling this entire story so stay tuned for updates. BTW I'm not a very good writer but I'm just telling this story for fun. If you don't like oc x canon stories then you are gonna want to avoid this one.

Boardwalk

Summertime only means one thing in Santa Carla, it brings in hordes of new tourists and visitors into this crazy town. And you can expect it to remain that way for the next few months. But amongst all of the people on the boardwalk, there is one individual who walks alone. She isn’t a particularly special individual, not really attractive or ugly, dresses casually but not really normally either. She’s a stranger to most people and seemingly can’t be read by most who pass her. She has one goal in mind and one only, she doesn’t let anyone get in her way as she goes.

Within a few minutes, she’s reached her destination…Max’s Video Store. Looking through the entrance she doesn’t see the owner, “Awesome…” She isn’t a fan of the owner. He always gives her a ‘look’ when she walks in. She makes her visit brief as she sifts through old VHS’s looking frantically for something that catches her eye.

As she finally finds something, A new presence makes itself known by slamming its hands onto the box she was looking through. She winces as she already knows who it is.

“Before you say anything, please save it” She looks up at them with the most uninterested face she could muster.

“I wasn’t gonna say anything, I was gonna simply admire you from afar…” They said with a snarky yet lovestruck smile. It was Marko…

That curly haired blonde who sported the most complex looking jacket she will ever see and wore black leather chaps. He also had the face of a Greek statue and eyes that she swore could change colors at will. A part of her wanted to feel flattered that he liked her, but at the same time she knew she didn't quite trust him.

“Well I’ll have you know that I’m pretty busy, so you should do yourself a favor and go with your buddies before I let you down again.” She walked towards the counter to pay for the VHS when she heard a new voice.

“Jordan! You didn’t tell us you would be here today! Why didn't you tell us?” A tall lanky blondie who looked like Twisted Sister wrapped his arms around Jordan’s much shorter frame and spun her around much to her dismay. “You guys don't need to know what I'm doing OR where I'm going!" She twisted and writhed in his arms as he simply dangled her over the ground.

Paul kept blabbering while Marko came up to her and simply said, “You said I should go with my buddies, but I already brought them here.”

Jordan finally got herself out of Paul’s arms and slammed cash onto the counter for her VHS. “You can keep the change just please let me get the hell out of here” The lady working the register simply smiled and laughed to herself “I know how you feel.”

“What’s the hurry?” A new voice intervenes. Everyone looks from what they are doing, it’s David.

Jordan could recognize the platinum blonde from anywhere. Walking up to Jordan he puts a rough hand on her shoulder. “You should know they are just excited to spend some time with you.”

“You forget yourself, it’s just Marko who wants to spend time with me. You guys are just third wheeling his sad attempt at flirting with me for god knows how many times. I’m sure he’s wonderful and all but I’d advise you to give him a wake up call.”

Jordan snatches the VHS off of the counter and makes a beeline for the exit before she is blocked by the one brunette of this club of crazies. “Well, you haven’t even given him a chance, so how do you know you don’t like him?” He grabs her shoulders and turns her around to face Marko who is giving her the biggest frown she’s ever seen. “See? You can make that frown turn upside down if you give him the chance to-”

“What did I tell guys you about coming in here?”

I have needed to flesh space travel out for so long so thank you to @milkyfederation for giving me the inspiration and motivation to do this

Text is in the ID if tumblr decides to be mean about the image quality. In addition to the gate being very small, wormholes are only open for extremely short amounts of time. The smaller, more efficient generators can stay open for a few hours at a time, but most other gates can only open long enough for a single ship to go through. What causes this problem isn’t a lack of or the desire to save energy, but is rather the instability of the wormholes themselves. Wormholes just really do not want to exist, and keeping one open long enough to get a ship through safely is a struggle as-is. Gates can close and reopen multiple times in a short span though, so this isn’t necessarily an issue.

What is more of an issue is scheduling.

The way wormholes are scheduled to open in the Little Bird’s setting is heavily regulated by the galactic government. The way it’s set up is that they want all of the active wormholes to bend reality on one plane, kind of sectioning the universe. They do this mostly for safety, because they don’t know what would happen if they tried to bend the universe in too many directions at once. This means that each gate will have a set destination for a certain amount of time, and their destination is determined by where they’re scheduled to go.

The plane reality is bent on does change, usually every week or so, so that each planet’s local wormhole can have a different destination for some time. But overall it does make travel, shipping, and communication at some times to be rather difficult.

Communication is heavily affected by wormhole access, but less so than the other two.

Little guy. These are allowed onto ships and planets, so you don’t need to go all the way out to a transport wormhole to get the news. Granted. They aren’t really good for talking to other people on other planets. There are a handful of ‘websites’ that run on these guys, but when you’re actually in a populated area you can really only open them for a second or so. More than enough time to download the morning news or send a pre-written email, not enough time to load a social media page.

When on a planet there are usually a few of these in orbit, so anyone on-world can stay updated. These ones can also stay open for quite a bit longer. Or turn off and on again, whatever needs to happen so that your feed is actually up to date. The ‘websites’ that run on them are usually government, military, or the one really large social platform though, so if you want to use those your options are still limited.

The Little Bird having one of these is a little unusual, since it isn’t a deep space ship, but it’s not unheard of.
