Thomas writes songs about Alastair in his head, we all just know it. They're sweet and revering, a potion made of love and trust.
Now with Cot out, let me add the bitter, more angsty version: Thomas writing songs about Kit.
After things settle down and they have time to process what's happened, Thomas is a trainwreck, he's gasping and crying at the funeral and he cannot pick up the shreds of his heart, left beyond repair and scattered on the ground to cut at him each time he breathes. His sister died. His world collapsed. He tried to build himself back, slowly, with cuts on his hands, just for the world to crush him under the sole of its fit.
So he joins patrol after patrol. This evil is different, but what does it matter? It came from the same source. So Thomas fights.
At some point Alastair confronts him the way he deals with the agony is destroying him, gnaws at him, and it must stop. He encourages him to find an alternative. He guides Thomas to bed very gently that night, telling him he loves him and that he must try, that there's always a different way.
He eventually settles on poetry.
Thomas's way of grief is coming up with songs and poems in his head about what he feels.
Thomas made them in his head for some time. He told no one and shared them with no one. He didn't think they were very good, or that he had a poetic mind as good as others. But he does it anyway if only to try and pour his pain into the world and set it free.
The sharp agony, the feel he is stumbling on his own without Kit, without him to make him laugh and smile, how much he misses him and how the world seems lacking without him by his side. He breaks down and pieces himself together every time, all the time. Because like a broken clock, time has flown differently since his cousin, the brother of his heart, has passed.
Alastair returns from patrol one day to find Thomas sitting on the couch of their flat, face in his hands, a single piece of paper with barely a sentence written on it. He can only rock Thomas, lull him to restless sleep full of bright lilac eyes full of laughter he used to see all the time.
On other nights, Thomas is drowning in pages of pages of words he wishes he could say. Regret, for all the times he listened half-heartedly. Anger, that Kit slipped so fast from life's delicate hands. He isn't mad at his Kit, he is furious at life, that let the kindest and brightest man he knows slip away. Wistfulness, for he wishes he could hear the laugh of his cousin - no, brother - one more time, like he used to do all the time.
He finally shows one to Alastair. And he has to look away because the crushing sadness that settles on his lover's face is just too much to bear.
Alastair composed melodies to some of Thomas's poems, each note stark and bare and full of meaning, with the thought of a hole in his and his loved ones' heart that would be empty forever.
They play one of them to the family on Kit's anniversary day. Cecily and Gabriel's sobs can be heard starting the second verse, Anna is hugging herself, and Thomas is in shreds. They all are. What can be said, now, that would make it better?
Nothing, Thomas knows, while the notes and the words he wrote are echoing around them, surrounding them. Nothing will change the fact the the brother of his heart is gone.

I'm thinking about how Matthew's perfectionism has always gotten in the way of all his hobbies. He tells James in Nothing but Shadows that he can't draw, can't write prose or poetry, can't compose or do anything like that, and, even without counting the fact that he is literally 13 and shouldn't expect to be good at those things anyway, you just know he probably only tried each of those things once or twice before giving up because he wasn't immediately good at them so for him that meant he had failed and couldn't be good ever and he was only good to watch the arts he loved from afar (spectate).
The only hobby he ever had was baking and only because no one else knew. Since it wasn't something anyone expected of him, he could do it in secret with no pressure, and allow Cook to teach him slowly because he was just "helping" her.
And then he lost it too by accidentally poisioning his mom and being too traumatised to ever do it again

Want to hear my fun little TSC afterlife headcanon? Cool.
So basically, there are two sides of the Great River. Will waits on one for Jem and Tessa. The TLH characters cross over really quickly and enter into the Shadowhunter afterlife.
Because Will has not crossed the river, the TLH characters take it upon themselves to build a gorgeous home for Will, Jem, and Tessa to all live in together. James chooses a basic decor theme and adds fixtures like wallpaper and lighting; Matthew provides aesthetic features like paintings, sculptures, and other artwork. Anna and Ari add unique, one-of-a-kind curiosities in random corners; Christopher and Grace, who finally are together, build all of the clocks and gizmos inside the house. Thomas, a handyman, builds annexes and reading corners and windows with natural lighting. Alastair and Cordelia create a gorgeous music room for Jem complete with perfect acoustics.
Despite them going and sitting on the other side of the river to chat with Will regularly, they never share this with him. When Jem shows up and eventually sits next to Will as they wait for Tessa and throw things at the steady stream of ducks that heaven has supplied them, they don't tell him, either.
Tessa gets there, and the three of them cross over holding hands. They're immediately greeted by a massive but cozy house that their children, nieces, and nephews have spent over a century lovingly crafting for them.

In The Shadowhunters Chronicles if you're a queer, you'll live a good, happy life with the person you love. You'll probably even get married. If you're a straight, you'll probably be fine, too. But if you're aroace/asexual/aromantic... die saving the people closest to you.

I will forever love that the kids who grew up in Idris probally have some weird accent that’s a mix of French, German, and Swiss accents.
This includes: Jace, Sebastian, Jocelyn, Robert, Valentine, Aline, Luke, and probally to a lesser extent Clary since the two main adults in her life had it.

I loved your cordelia headcanons - do you have any specifically for jordelia? ❤️
Hi, thank you! Here are a few of my Jordelia headcanons:
You know that thing where people have whole conversations with their eye contact? Jordelia do it but with their eyebrows. They know what the other means, but people tend to think they’re having seizures when they do it in public. They mainly do it to gossip about their parents or Matthew.
James' favourite colour on Cordelia is gold or bronze.
James learns to eat spicy Persian food bit by bit, and it's lowkey painful and Alastair laughs at him, but he learns. Alastair buys him a hat for his resilience and strength.
James, fairly drunk, tries Persian dancing one night at family dinner with the Herondales. Cordelia joins him and it's fun. She won't admit it, but he was quite good.
They read George Eliot's catalogue together, taking turns reading the books to each other. They both teared up several times.
They tend to have baking battles with Thomastair and have Matthew and Lucie judge. Thomastair wins 9 times out of 10 because, cmon. Look at them. You think they can't cook?!
Besides Constantinople, they've traveled across Ireland, Wales, and France together.

James and Matthew headcanons because TLH is over (;-;) and I adore them and miss them everyday
Matthew calls James "darling" because he knows it "annoys" James but mostly because he adores Jamie (I mentioned this in a previous list of headcanons but y'all will hear it again because I love it)
Harry Styles' cover of Juice by Lizzo is how I imagine Matthew's voice to sound
Matthew tries to convince James to be more adventurous with his fashion choices,,,it never works tho
James rarely cries; Matthew can probably count on one hand how many times he's seen his parabatai cry, but when he does, it breaks Matthew's heart into a million little pieces and he inevitably will start sobbing as well
If they lived in modern times and had cell phones, Matthew would absolutely send James a million pictures of things he sees and people he meets on his voyage. It wouldn't be cool landmarks tho, or like pretty scenery, no, it'd be like photos of a rat he saw stealing a donut, him almost falling into the canals in Venice because he stood up too fast on the boat, Oscar chasing a flock of swans, etc
James, Matthew, and Tom all gather at the Lightwood family tomb on Kit's birthday and the anniversary of his death. They bring lemon tarts to share, though they rarely ever eat one themselves, and talk to him about how much the world is changing, how Kit would've been so excited to learn that the mundanes invented airplanes and televisions and they'd even share with him the scientific contributions Grace has continued to share with Nephilim society (i refuse to believe she stopped being a woman in STEM after she figured out the fire messages)
Matthew is the only person allowed to cut James' hair
they both suck ass at cooking but sometimes James will attempt baking cookies or muffins for everyone; Matthew "helps," and by help I mean he sits on the counter and critiques James' technique until James inevitably throws flour at Matthew's very expensive and one of a kind waistcoat how dare you James
I will die on this hill because I've imagined James like this since his first introduction in The Bane Chronicles: his eyes glow, ok. Not like, very noticeably, but if it's very dark in the room his eyes will let off this iridescent glow kinda like the scales of a fish when they shift in and out of the light. People who don't know James very well or are seeing it for the first time can find it a little unnerving but Matthew never once felt afraid. He likes to call them his own personal north stars ✨✨
James and Matthew will share books back and forth. One will read and annotate it and then give it to the other who does the same. They love seeing each other's little notes as they read
Where Matthew is bright colors and expensive jewels, James tends to stick to the same four colors (black, white, navy, and gold) Occasionally Matthew will convince him to wear heavy gold rings inlaid with precious gems or a dashing emerald waistcoat embroidered in gold because "it will look absolutely lovely on you, Jamie" (and of course it does, in fact, look lovely on him)
They of course have that bestie telepathy that I think most people have with their best friend; when you witness something ridiculous and just give them The Look and they know exactly what you're thinking? Yeah, that's definitely resulted in plenty of instances of James and Matthew bursting into laughter for seemingly no reason while everyone looks on in confusion
Similar to James rarely crying, James doesn't strike me as someone who laughs often. That isn't to say he's unhappy, I just think he only laughs when he genuinely finds something funny. James doesn't do pity laughs, ok, if you say something ridiculous he'll just look at you like ._. Matthew made it his personal mission since they met at the Academy to make James laugh at least once a day. Like a full, unbidden, genuine laugh. Matthew could probably write a 10 page essay on how much he loves James' laugh, how to make him laugh, what never fails to make him laugh, etc
Matthew's love language is physical touch (we all saw him clutching onto James' wrist for dear life throughout this series right?); James' is acts of service.
Whenever Matthew has bad days, days where he struggles to be kind to himself, days when it's difficult for him to feel present, he tends to ask for James. James takes this as the blessing that it is, seeing as a younger Matthew would've bottled it up until it boiled over, and spends all day with him. Sometimes they sit in silence, Matthew simply needing to feel grounded with James' presence; other times, James will read to him, tidy his flat, fix that wobbly table leg Matthew keeps putting off (James is surprisingly handy) and on the really bad days James will hold him, rests his cheek against Matthew's head and reminds him of all the reasons he loves him, why he chose to become his parabatai, and that nothing Matthew could ever ask of James could ever be a burden
James gets Oscar a new collar with a matching doggy bowtie every year on his adoption day; Matthew obviously keeps every collar and switches them out so Oscar can feel like a dapper little gentleman
Anyways I adore these two and I'm still manifesting a Matthew short story collection because no amount of James and Matthew parabatai content will ever be enough

Whatever you do don't think about Matthew spending the night at Curzon Street for a reason or other and he has a nightmare and can't sleep so he goes to James's room automatically as he always does, but when he opens the door and sees the 2 figures on the bed, he remembers: this is James and Cordelia's room now, and he is no longer welcome, so he just stops there at the door and watches them and their happiness that is not meant for him.
Except James wakes up and asks him what's wrong and he knows Matthew's answer of nothing is bs so he just extends his hand and beckons him to the bed and Matthew can't possibly accept, is James crazy? He doesn't want to bother him or Cordelia and he is sorry for waking him up and- Cordelia is suddenly awake too and sleepily tells Matthew to stop being silly and get in the bed already so they can all go back to sleep.
So Matthew does. Slowly and waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it never does, and he snuggles against James and Cordelia smiles at him from the other side and it feels right, it feels right, it feels so right.
He never wants to sleep anywhere else again.

I have a headcanon that the Devil Tavern starts serving black coffee exclusively because they want Matthew to be able to order it. He's a regular, and they absolutely adore him, and as a result, they're all super supportive of his sobriety. They see he likes coffee, and offering it both makes him happy and keeps his business.
This also is good for the Devil because, unexpectedly, lots of people start to order the coffee. They expand the service to offer several different types of coffee from around the world, and Matthew is the one to recommend his favourite beans to them. Since (and yes, I'm in headcanon land here) he likes the bitterer, darker, full-bodied flavors, they have a lot of that, and he needs to create his own light-roast blend that he likes. He does, and the Devil calls it "Matthew's Choice."
To this day, you can go to the Devil Tavern and order Matthew's Choice. Clary loves it. Black, of course, like her soul. She specifically comes in for it when she and Jace are in London. The immortal Devil employees always smile a bit wistfully when she orders it, but what she doesn't know is that they see a bit of their favourite wild child in her Fairchild-green eyes.
