The thing about The Magnus Archives is that once you listen to it, you will forever be plagued by the fears and their classifications and the thoughts that each one of them are just each other's sisters and share traits, so assigning servitude to avatars is a bit muddy

ok ok so i recently got into the magnus archives and im making drawings of young justice as Avatars and here’s what I have so far
The Ones I know for sure:
Tim: The Eye (Fear of Being Watched/Having secrets leaked)
Cassie: The Hunt (Fear of being Prey/Hunted)
Greta: The End (Fear of Death)
Ones I may be swayed on
Kon: The Stranger (Fear of Uncanny things)
Bart: The Vast (Fear of Wide Open spaces)
Cissie: The Web (Fear of being controlled
Anita: The Slaughter (Fear of Pain)
But I have no idea what to do for slobo
The Ones left are (with very basic descriptions)
The Lonely; Fear Of Loneliness
The Flesh; Body Horror/Dymorphia
The Extinction; Fear of the World/Humanity ending
The Desolation; Fire (Mainly), Pain, etc
The Corruption; Fear of Bugs, Insects, Mold, Rot etc
The Dark; Fear of the Dark, the unknown
The Spiral; Fear of being lied to/Decived and others
The Buried; Fear of Closed Spaces
(Avatars basically embody these qualities)
(Avatars can fear or love these things, it’s not mutually exclusive)
I also may have forgotten an entity but anyways

A private investigator whose an avatar of the hunt. He's constantly thinking about the chase about the next clue about the next suspect about what they say about how to solve the case. Its not about the knowledge or the truth its purely about the chase of it all about the well, the hunt. All sense of professionalism dropping as the case continues, devolving from jotting notes into a notebook to scratching them into the walls around him.
Finding the culprit and fully succumbing to the fear, pressing further and further for another layer to the mystery another mastermind behind it.

[ID: A comic depicting characters from the Magnus Archives. There are three characters depicted, Jonathan Sims, Oliver Banks and Annabelle Cane. They are all dressed in Victorian fashion. Jon is a thin Persian person with medium brown skin and long, curly salt and pepper hair tied into a ponytail with a purple ribbon. They have one dark brown eye and one bright green. They are wearing a dark green tailcoat with gold eye buttons, a green bowtie and white gloves. Oliver is a thin Black man with dark brown skin and short, close-cropped 4c textured black hair. He is wearing a maroon waistcoat over a white button up shirt with a high collar, a red bowtie, and red gloves. Annabelle is a thin Black woman with dark brown skin and bleached 4b textured hair put into two buns behind her head. She has a dark purple dress with a white lace collar and a spiderweb brooch, and a hole in the side of her head stitched together by web. She is a ghost and has completely white eyes. All the text is in a handwritten font.
In the first panel we see a black silhouette of Jon and Oliver sitting at a table. It is nighttime, and behind them is a red wall, red curtains, and blue window lattice and base. There is a lamp behind Oliver.
The next panel is Jon with a bemused, skeptical expression on his face. They are crossing their arms in a wooden chair behind a plain pale green background.
The next panel are Oliver and Jon’s gloved hands atop a wooden planchette on a Ouija board. The tablecloth below is a deep red.
The next panel is Oliver in full view, his hands placed delicately on the planchette. He has an inquisitive expression on his face and to the left of the board is a set of Tarot cards with ‘The Eye’ card on top. He is sitting in a large, red velvet chair.
The next shows Oliver with a concerned expression, and just to the left he has been replaced by Annabelle, who has ghostly fog coming from her body and eyes. Both are saying as one: ‘Annabelle says she’s sorry.’ When Annabelle is sitting, the Tarot card has ‘The Web’ on top.
The next small panel is Jon’s hand abruptly being pulled from atop the planchette in front of a plain red background.
In the next panel, we see Jon standing up from the table looking down at Oliver and both are in profile. Jon is leaning over the table and yelling: ‘How do you know that?!’ and Oliver looks up at him with a worried expression.
Next we see a large panel with a closeup of Jon’s eyes, wide and in terror.
Finally, an open panel of Annabelle as a child with black hair but in the same outfit and hairstyle. She still has the hole in her head and fog coming from her eyes. She is surrounded by a huge fire all around her. Oliver off screen is saying: ‘She says it’s not your fault.’ End ID/]
Finally I can show you all my piece for @podcastbigbang ! I had the absolute honor and privilege of working with @gentlemancrow on her fic White Shores are Calling which you can go read here! (Please do, Crow’s writing is absolutely incredible and I had such a hard time choosing what to draw for it! She’s amazing!) Please zoom in to see all the details, this was a HUGE undertaking but absolutely worth it! If you want the context you’ll just have to read and see :)

I read UHHH fuck it, whatever comic it is that has a story for each of the Endless siblings, and GOD I love Despair and Delirium especially. It was also fascinating to see where Dream and Desire's feud ultimately started - and to discover that Desire was briefly Dream's favourite sibling.

Would you talk about the “magic-ing someone out of existence” thing from that one bird in the storm comic. Actually, Tango vastness backstory in general? Anything you’d see fit to answer if you want. The vibes I’m getting of him and the open sky and storms and the lightning strike? Really fun!
tango’s connection to the vast is quite vague, to be fair, and mostly has to do with the “fear of insignificance in the vastness of the universe” aspect of it. he’s been marked by it via a lightning strike (to say it was inspired by mike crew would be an understatement) as a young adult struggling to define himself. neither him nor jimmy are really avatars in the commonly agreed upon sense, though if you’re familiar with TMA you most likely know how much discourse there is in the fandom when it comes to clearly defining what even makes an avatar, so do with that what you will. all i can add is that tango doesn’t know of the entities, or what the strange feelings he experiences when staring out at open fields mean
Tumblr media
he doesn’t think much of what was, unbeknownst to him, getting marked by a fear entity beyond human comprehension. he treats it like a funny story/great conversation starter, and he found jimmy’s absolute terror upon learning that information particularly amusing. and a little sweet
as for the comic. not being an avatar doesn’t necessarily mean no “powers”, as it were, just that the person hasn’t sacrificed their humanity to fully align with whichever entity. what tango’s referring to is an accidental use of such “power” - during an argument, he unknowingly (and not fully of his own accord) sends a person to what i can only, very eloquently call the “endless sky dimension”. he doesn’t know what happened, what he did to this person, his brain sort of refuses to accept that any of what he just saw was real. all he knows is that there used to be a person in front of him, there isn’t anymore, and that it’s somehow his fault. him not being aware of the existence of the dread powers is why he describes what he can only assume was someone’s death the way that he does. plus he thinks that telling the story accurately wouldn’t help his case at all, considering jimmy probably already thinks he’s a lunatic (spoiler alert he doesn’t)

Baron from the Baronies (Dimension 20) Art by emileedraws, original post here. "Baron is a nightmare entity appearing as a bone-white goblin mannequin. Baron is born from the fears and lies of Riz Gukgak, who, when he felt self-conscious about his lack of interest in romantic/sexual relationships (Riz is canonically asexual and implied aromantic) compared to his friends, lied and says he had a long distance partner named “Baron” who lives in the Baronies. This lie created the entity calling itself Baron, who torments Riz with the idea that his friends do not truly care for him and will never understand him, and that eventually they will all find someone they care more about than him, leaving him alone. Baron shows Riz images of all of his friends and eventually his parents in their romantic relationships, affirming that Riz will never be like the people he loves. Baron’s purpose is to sow doubt, fear, and utter loneliness in Riz, thus making him an effective Avatar of the Lonely."
Slugpelt (Pinepaw and the Forgotten World) "she is lonely--her mother was cruel, favoring her brother rainhaze whilst treating her like shit, and the group where she lives is very isolated. also her boyfriend left her to raise her kids alone
she spreads loneliness--while she is less of an antagonist and more of a tragic hero in her own right (and she's at least trying to get better), she does somewhat pass her loneliness down to her kids, being... rather neglectful and barely connecting with them (generational cycles of abuse are somewhat of a. theme in patfw). the comic's author, Raz, is also a big tma fan and has explicitly described her as Lonely-aligned."

TMA: Horror By Sound
A long while ago, I discussed about the interesting values of Audio content. Heck, I even talked about it in a [Video Here] Audio content, despite being considered as old media is emerging from the corners of the internet in the modern era.
With how things are moving at such a fast pace. A quick and secondary type of medium is bound to rise in popularity. Let's discuss;
Tumblr media
- Statement Begins -
< The Magnus Archives > is an audio podcast/drama following an archivist at the Magnus Institute, London. The recordings follow Jonathan Sims who recently took over the position of Head Archivist after his predecessor, Gertrude Robinson mysteriously passed away.
What started out as a typical job of filing documents and old cases spiraled into an unusual turn where Jon and his Archival Assistants; Martin, Tim and Sasha are haunted by a grotesque monster as written in the statements.
As of now, the show has a total of 5 seasons and as the seasons progress. The monsters become more aggressive and frightening against the character's lives and their psyche.
Tumblr media
- What's Your Greatest Fear? -
The series has the characters deal with entities that feed on the fears of the victims. From the typical fear of the dark to specific fears such as, spiders, filth, heights, closed spaces, and eventually, death itself. Each fear manifested itself onto the victims in various ways that feels personal.
At the end of the statements, Jon or the others will provide their thoughts on the case and report their findings in reality. Often dead end trials where either the victims have long died or went missing.
Tumblr media
The series as a whole, has an ecosystem of connections to the manifestations. From the cursed books of Jurgen Leitner to a cast of active creatures hunting for prey to feed upon and tear into madness.
Aside from the main cast, there are also reoccurring characters that joined the show as well. There's former Paranormal Investigator; Melanie, former officers; Daisy and Basira and a few others.
The show takes a slow burn approach, learning the truth as Jon improves. Having the unknown beings creep deeper into his life inch by inch till he is no longer himself.
Tumblr media
We get to see him get exhausted, frustrated at his lack and the comical failure of his preparation against the monsters knocking at his door with the conspiracy that he is but a pawn at the bigger game of these Abominations.
The show also shows a number of audio manipulation, adding to the creep factor. Such is when the creature; The Stranger appears by distorting sound and echoes when they speak.
- Statement Ends -
In a disturbing way. The show seems to suggest that we, the listeners are the very monsters that is affecting the characters. Our constant need for more brings the characters descend further and there is nothing we can do about it but listen.
I've talked in the past about how [ASMR is Sound for the Soul] with the ability to simulate soothing tingles and tell a story with one sided conversations. What TMA does is to do the secondary.
Telling a story by second hand accounts. The way how some of the statements feels can get under your skin. The use of words and the annunciation of the statements feels like something is pulling the statements closer to the audience. Simulating a different kind of tingle.
Tumblr media
It sometimes feels like we are prying into closed conversations. Listening to the deepest and darkest parts of humanity without the characters noticing.
As of now, I caught up till Season 3 but it seems like Jon will be getting involved more and more to the beings at the threshold.
What I think TMA does really well is not making horror out of typical fears. It relies on those fears and amplifies its ability to make one cripplingly terrified at things we have yet to understand. Reaching out of the tape recorder and into our world in an unpleasant way. Yet, you can't help but click to the next episode.
Recording Ends

In light of both the announcement of The Magnus Protocol and the introduction of polls to tumblr, I thought it would be a good time to reintroduce the fandom to Ye Olde TMA Fan Survey!
Tumblr media
If you weren’t one of the 3,500+ people able to take the survey back in the day and it sounds like something you’re interested in, I’ve got good news for you:
THE TMA FAN SURVEY IS STILL UP AND RUNNING!
Take the survey here (it contains spoilers through the finale!!!)
Read after the break for more context and for the results of the initial run!
Exactly two years ago, a group of us launched the TMA Fan Survey as part of the fan project Eye Love TMA to celebrate the podcast that means so much to so many. In the two months between survey launch and the March 2021 finale, we got over 3,500 fans (and a few cast/crew members!) to take the survey. I had a blast getting to examine such a large set of data and analyse how the fandom related to the podcast through items such as:
Favourite character
Favourite season
Scariest episode
Charisma levels of the fandom as compared to the Archivist
What the Admiral looks like
How the Admiral wears trousers
Which entity fans are most afraid of
Which dancing Theresa May haunts the Archivist in the gap between his nightmares
And so, so much more!
Now, since the fandom has only continued to grow since the finale, and that means there are even more people who are able to contribute to this project, I decided to readvertise the survey.
Through the launch of TMagP, I’m going to be running a drive to collect Even More Data for the survey and release an updated newsletter come October.
Look at the finale-era results here.
Tumblr post of highlights from newsletter launch by the incredible niksfake
Adorable comic by shanni used to advertise the survey
Just to note that, going forward, I’m only going to be looking at the multiple choice questions on the survey. I already read through 3,500 responses to each of the 6 short answer questions and I am not going to read through any more, thank you very much.
Also, the survey was written in between the release of MAG 190 and MAG 191 and updated relevant episode-centric questions with each new release, so please feel free to laugh at some of the more outdated questions.

[ID: Comic page depicting Jon Sims from TMA. He is a thin man with medium brown skin and chin-length, grey-streaked curly black hair. He is wearing a light blue button-up shirt and green tie under a grey jumper with the sleeves rolled up to the elbows. He is seated at a desk with a few sheets of paper in one hand and a pen in the other, with a tape recorder sitting on the desk in front of him. Behind him are a bookshelf, a filing cabinet, and a picture frame on the wall with yellowed paper reading “litchrally not a library science degree”.
Panel one shows Jon reading from the paper. He says: “Statement ends. Anyway this person was definitely on drugs and this statement is fake poorly written bullshit.”
Panel two shows him looking up at the corner of the room with an unimpressed expression. He says “what.”
Panel three shows an eldritch apparition lurking in the corner of his office. It is the figure of a man with its hands joined as though in prayer, surrounded by a formless black haze. In the midst of it, two glowing eyes can be seen. Text in a runic-looking font is overlaid in all caps, reading: “No, it’s not, you soggy scrap of wet bread.”
Panel four shows Jon, his hands folded over the paper and pen which are now resting on his desk. He stares at the entity with a judgmental expression and says “Don’t care didn’t ask.” End ID.]
hey so you know those somewhere else fics where it’s time travel? yeah i love all of those. because i also love chaos, i thought wouldn’t it be funny if post-200 jmart got put in separate but near-identical iterations of season one? i bet a bunch of shenanigans would ensue.
here are the ensuing shenanigans

TMA *EGOS*
PLEASE EXPLAIN MORE
Okay I'm assuming that you're asking me to give what TMA Avatar each of the Egos would be which I'll go into detail here!!! With!!!! Some bonus Picrews!! If you have any further questions don't be afraid to reach out in the ask box xxx
Before I begin I do want to mention that these are just my own thoughts!!! I would absolutely love to hear what everyone thinks/if you have alternative ideas to suggest as well :DDD
(For starters I think all of the Egos have elements of The Lonely to them- they all feel isolated in their lives for whatever reason)
Chase Brody (The Eye) - I think Chase is so unbelievably Eye coded and he's VERY Archivist coded in my brain, giving off Season 4 Jonathan Sims if you get me. The Beholding is all about paranoia, feeling like your being watched and this insatiable need to know more- which Chase pretty much checks every box in my brain (especially after Anomaly Found). Chase does have elements of The Corruption and The Buried which I think would mostly just because of The Eyes effects of his life.
Marvin The Magnificent (The Desolation) - to me I've always gotten the impression that Marvin's magic reflects his mental wellbeing and he didn't gain it naturally- a younger Marvin to me has always read as a Carrie White or a Sydney Novak type character- someone with such intensely strong powers that its only a matter of time before he destroys something- i think the thing it destroys the most is Marvin himself though, its harmed everything around him and has probably left him isolated and alone. The Desolation isn't just fire it's the destruction of everything it doesn't care for death it just drives to squeeze the pain out of you. Which for me is exactly how I've always imagined Marvin, the fact that he doesn't want to hurt others would only feed into it more.
JackieBoy Man (The Vast) - Now with Jackie he's always seemed to be the hardest character to pinpoint for me personally. But at the end I thought The Vast was the only appropriate entity for him, he's an odd mix of Crew and Fairchild where he's constantly chasing down the thrill of open air, of falling into nothingness. He also to me seems like he'd be the one Ego who'd be the most aware of how insignificant their lives are in the grand scheme of the entirety of the universe (plus as a bonus his comic is the only one this far to reference the grand universe and the sheer scale of everything.
Jameson Jackson (The Web) - JJ is so interesting to me because to me he's both puppet and puppet master. He's a people pleaser and I would go as far to say that he takes it the point no one ever truly knows who he really is, like Martin Blackwood, he's all smiles and kind gestures but he treats everyone the same, it's only when you take a step back do you realise just how surface level his gestures are. I don't think he's a bad person however, I just think he pretends to care a lot more than he actually does. He's manipulated but he knows it, hes the quickest to spot the signs of manipulation because he's seen it and he's played with the same strings- that doesn't make him immune to manipulation and I think part of him is aware of just how caught up he is in the web himself.
Henrik Von Schneeplestien (The End/The Spiral) - Henrik was almost impossible for me to settle on because there's quite a few he could fall into (I could even make an argument he'd also belong in The Eye or Corruption) but I think his true calling is The End. I see him carry death unknowingly to the people around him, he spends so much time saving lives to counter act it somehow, he can't save everyone but if he can help people just as much as he accidentally kills others then maybe he can live with himself- it obviously takes a hold of him and he's eventually unable to keep operating in this way which is where The Spiral comes in, I think the constant death surrounding him will eventually break him and unknown to him and everyone around him- the signs for this were all clear as day.
Antisepticeye (The Stranger) - Anti is not human, anti has never been human and him trying to convince you that he is one is nothing short of uncanny. He's not had the life experiences to know how humans are supposed to move, his body consists of that which is important for a human to survive but none of it works right. He kills people and robs their lives and their faces and mocks you with them. He sends people into paranoia because they know that something is wrong but they just can't tell what. He is a mask of humanity worn by a thing that doesn't know how to be human.
BONUS: Robbie The Zombie (The Corruption) - Robbie was the easiest BC yk, zombie. But I would like to think that he didn't die and come back. His zombification was slow and it started when he was alive, watching and feeling his body begin the decomposition process while he was still very much alive and aware and feeling. It slowly but surely robbed him of not just his life but his identity and he slowly started to lose himself within the rot of The Corruption as he progressed.

I might be misremembering but did someone do art of Pinepaw comic and the fear entities from the Magnus Archives?
That would be @thecatspasta <3 they made a lovely series of drawings based on the answers I have about the TMA AU around the start of this year. You can check out these drawings in the 'au' or 'fanart' tag.
Tumblr media
Originally I had Rainhaze as a Buried victim. Before this issue, obviously. Now, though? No, he's not the Hunt. I still stand by him being a Michael Shelley figure, with his domain being more like Slaughter.

Sburb Aspects and The Fear Entities - TMA x Homestuck (spoilers ahead!!!)
I love the style of hyper-flexible mythology used by these Homestuck and The Magnus Archives: power systems and personality types are all well and good, but stories are elevated so much when those are combined with structures of the world's metaphysical nature. Few stories do it nearly as great as these two (and if you know any on their level please offer those recommendations!).
That said, I think there's a lot of overlap between their systems. Nothing is 1-to-1, of course, the numbers don't match up and they try to map out different types of concept (one explicitly about fear, the other dubiously about storytelling & other stuff maybe): however, some concepts are similarly touched on between the systems. I intend to explore these links in this post.
(again, spoilers ahead for both stories!)
and a long LOOONG post up ahead!
Tumblr media
Now, I'll explain the obvious ones first for each, then touch on some of the less expected matches.
BREATH
The Lonely: First, I hope this one is clear. The Breath aspect is very explicitly about detachment. If its opposite Blood is about attachment and community, Breath touches on isolation and lacking a place. See how HS's Egbert values their friends throughout the comic, but once it ends they become a shut-in. The fog aesthetic also fits the wind theme.
The Vast: Speaking of a wind theme, those who follow The Vast have a more positive view on Breath's detachment, and value their freedom very highly. See how Mike Crew lashes out at Jon when he feels John disrespect his desires and then proceeds to make him feel Lots Of Quick Movement (how Breathy!). Now, onto the weird ones.
The Desolation: Why link The Fire Entity with The Wind Aspect? Well, if The Lonely applies for having no attachments, then The Desolation applies for being the pain of losing those attachments. See how its agents target the homes and families of its victims, leaving them with nothing, cold and shelterless after the fire wanes.
The Hunt: Breath is the aspect of Direction/Motivation and Movement, and The Hunt is all about perpetual chase and goal-seeking.
The Stranger: Breath is associated with levity & humour & magic/clownery, like The Stranger's circus aesthetic. Not to mention The Stranger's penchant for wayward vagabonds (haha), those with no place to call home and always on the move.
BLOOD
The Buried: Things that these two have in common: duty/crushing responsibility/obligation, pacts/promises/transactions, bondage/shackles, metal/soil/the element of earth, and basically everything else.
The Corruption: Penned in some ways as opposing The Lonely, it's also known as The Swarm and The Hive. It's about NEVER being alone, losing your individuality, etc. Also opposed to The Desolation.
The Flesh: Well, Blood is the aspect of the Purely Physical, the Material, the reality of our form, and The Flesh focuses on the idea that we are naught but meat with no spirit. Plus, y'know, blood & viscera imagery doesn't hurt. (okay it probably HURTS but y'know!)
The Hunt: This fear's literally pseudonymised as "Blood"! Touched on in a couple of episodes, The Hunt's domain expands into the fear of the pack turning if you take a wrong step, so you better damn well conform or else!
The Slaughter: Us Vs Them. Conflict is nothing without opposition, and your side matters more than anything in war. You have a duty, and if you neglect your obligations, blood will be spilled.
The Web: Everyone's connected, everyone has a role to play, no man is an island and all actions affect everyone. The Web's domain over addiction could be linked to Blood's claim on dependency... Also, rope bondage?
SPACE
The Vast: Dimension & distance & depth, size & scale, the universe as an ocean, the incomprehensible vastness of reality. These two are so deeply similar, conceptually.
The Lonely: In Calliope and Jade's discussion on the nature of reality, it is revealed that the path of the Spacebound is especially prone to loneliness. Recall the isolation of every Space player before entering the game, and "MAG 57: Personal Space".
The Corruption: Space is biology and growth, and while I can't remember any specific Corruption statements on motherhood I can easily imagine a woman birthing a plague of worms and beetles, and doting on her "children". It feels like a statement that *should* have happened somehow, it's just so obvious a version of Corruption's themes, y'know?
The Eye: "Those bound to the aspect of Space are, as the name suggests, concerned with the big picture. They are patient, masters of the art of ‘wait-and-see’, and are inclined to take things as they come." Space is the most passive aspect, while The Eye is arguably the most passive Entity (beside The End).
The Extinction: The Spacebound hold an "understanding that sometimes you have to let something burn to the ground in order to build it back better and stronger than before. To this effect, they tend to be innovators, concerned with creation and redemption. Catch them recycling the old to make the new, the fresh, and the beautiful."
TIME
The End: Time's the aspect of endings, conclusion and death. Next.
The Slaughter: Music, rhythm, regularity. Pressure, aggression, action. Different vibes, but surprisingly high overlap.
The Hunt: Was debating whether this was appropriate, since Time values destination over journey while Hunt values the chase over the catch. However, even with this difference, they both hold dominion over unstoppable forces and strict determination.
The Web: How can your free will matter in a clockwork universe? We see Dave struggle with his agency, knowing that only his actions in the Alpha timeline matters. Time loops are very Webbish.
The Extinction: Time is also about what comes next, after the end. Progress, technology, change and eternity are the nature of Time & The Extinction. Out with the old, in with the new.
LIGHT
The Eye: Knowledge, information, sight & light, being noticed whether you like it or not, sorting things into neat discrete categories, focus & clarity & attention. They're the same damn thing! This is the Light of Rose, Doc Scratch and Aranea
The Web: Light players struggle with agency, whether there's any greater meaning, any purpose, any master plan behind life. Well, if The Mother of Puppets has her way, EVERYONE can have a purpose and contribute to her master plan! (Might not be a nice plan, but hey.) This is the Light of the Serket sisters, Vriska & Aranea.
The Hunt: Part of Lights sway over knowledge is its dominion on exploration, discovery, seeking. These aren't *traditional* Hunt symbols but they're certainly present in the text, see most of the Hunters in South America.
VOID
The Dark: Okay, I shouldn't need to explain the link between these two. Obscurity, concealment, secrecy, mystery, the cold, water symbolism, emptiness (especially in space), deaf/blind/losing senses, and literal darkness/shadow? They're basically the same!
The End: The domain of non-existence.
The Flesh: Void, like Blood, deals with the physical world and denies greater divine purpose. Lends itself well to hedonism and empiricism. See Equius and his huge muscles.
The Spiral/Stranger: Falsification of senses and reality, deceit and blurriness, obsession and obstruction. Distortion & Unknowing.
The Vast: Deals with cosmic insignificance, as does Void. See also the ocean imagery.
The Extinction: Again, the idea that we don't matter, and a return to a blank canvas for something new.
HEART
The Lonely: Being alone with yourself, no outside interaction to speak of, longing for love? SO Heart-coded it's unreal.
The End: Heart deeply values The Self Being A Thing That Exists, thus fear of The End must affect it worse than maybe any other aspect.
The Flesh: I'm thinking of body dysmorphia here, the idea that your physical identity doesn't match your Truest Self. See Jared Hopworth's gym, and the perfection its members strive for.
The Hunt: Known as one of the most primal Fears, the Hunt taps into our base, bestial nature more than any other. Heart presides over base instinct, and is associated with animal imagery
The Stranger: "Who will you be, with a name or three, and a stranger's face worn wrong?" - Identity issues are a whole thing. Deals with things not being what they "should", messing with presentation and souls.
MIND
The Spiral: Mind = Sense, equally in terms of logic and perception. The Spiral distorts logic and perception equally. Mind is also about dishonesty to the self, and you can hopefully see the link to Es Mentiras a.k.a. "It Is Lies" there. See The Distortion's identity crisis.
The Web: Mind is also about Choice, of karma, the interconnectivity of everything and thorough planning. The Web is the entity of weaving plans, interconnectivity and the questioning of your own agency and choices.
The Buried: Perhaps a bit tenuous, but Mind touches on karma and I see that as being "trapped by your choices".
LIFE
The Corruption: Uncontrolled growth and biological imagery. I see Life less as bugs, and more as plant overgrowth, encroaching mold.
The Flesh/Hunt: Life is about consumption, food and domination, the assimilation of the weak to the strong, growth at no expense. Following your desires with no obstacles, fashioning yourself how you see fit. If Aspects had true name like TMA entities, Life could be the "It Will Eat & Grow".
The Extinction: Even without us, life will find a way. Nature shall reclaim all. Isn't it beautiful? Poetic?
DOOM
The Desolation: Pain, searing flame, loss, and sacrifice. Very very Doom.
The Corruption: Rot, disease and decay. Very very Doom.
The Buried: Restriction, limitations, etc. Very very Doom.
The Flesh: Oh my GOODNESS, those factory-farming episodes are DISTURBING. The utter helplessness, the looming tyranny of machines, the exploitation of your body before and after death... SO very VERY Doom. Recall the tragedy of The Ψiioniic Helmsman.
The Web: Fate, predetermination, bondage and learned helplessness. You get the drill by now.
The Extinction: Fossil fuels, factory farming, deforestation, political terrorism... Continuing on our path, Doom and Extinction as synonyms would be inevitable unless things change.
HOPE
The Spiral: "I am the throat of delusion incarnate" - every Hope player ever. Belief, whether in truth or falsehood, is the domain of Hope. I would also like to draw attention to the spoiling of belief, hope, faith and delusion in the "Desecrated Host" two-parter.
The Corruption: Hope is about a different kind of growth than Life but growth nonetheless, and Hope also touches on love as a form of desire. Corruption statements have a heavy emphasis on love, see "MAG 157: Love Bombing" (also features a literal cult belief system!!!)
The Extinction: The Catastrophic Change need not be so catastrophic, if we rebuild after. If Rage shatters glass, Hope will make a mosaic of it. If life as we know it ends, who's to say what comes next can't be better?
RAGE
The Stranger: Carnival, theatre and circus, masks and mannequins. The doubt of everything you encounter is what Rage is all about!!! It's perfect, honestly.
The Slaughter: Aggression, rabidity, anger, unpredictable violence, (in) justice, overhaul of the natural order. Dionysian madness, Pt. 1.
The Desolation: Hope is potential, Rage opposes Hope, and Desolation is the destruction of potential. Rage is happy to see (some parts of) the world burn. The aspect also touches on physical pain, and intensity of emotion.
The Flesh: Carnival, literally "farewell to meat", is the major symbol of Rage as mentioned already. Another case of Flesh's rejection of divine faith, manifesting Rage as Doubt (skepticism and empiricism).
The Hunt: Single-minded dogged determination, the denial of other possibilities in pursuit of The Undeniable Root, the unbreakable truth. PURE adrenaline. Fangs and horns and claws are also very Rage-y vibes.
The Spiral: Doubt of the senses, doubt of the self, doubt at its core. Dionysian madness, Pt. 2.
The Extinction: The Rage-bound are prone to believe that our world is unjust, unstable and unsustainable. All that's needed for everything to crumble is a little shake-up.
* Final Wrap-Up:
The Aspects connected to the most fears are Void and Rage, tied at 7. Makes sense, since the unknown is so central to horror and Rage is literally the aspect of fear! Of course half the fears would connect to either of those.
Doom & Blood tie second at 6 each (also sensibly scary). Mind, Light & Hope tie last at 3 each. The rest all have 4-5.
The Fears which line up with the most Aspects are Extinction at 7 then Hunt and Flesh each with 6 - half of the whole Aspect wheel!!! Funny how it's arguably the most primal Fear and the two most recent Entities which are most prominent.
The Dark alone aligns with just 1 Aspect and The Eye, funnily enough, has a mere 2. I can't really see them as anything else when they are SO similar in concept to Void and Light (though I did come around to Spaceye in the end).
Phe-YEW. Now THAT was a long post, anda took a while to write (presumably to read too!)
So now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna use my discoveries to help myself write a D&D campaign!
(Feel free to rb/comment w/ any of your own connections, if there's any in the table I didn't explain, and any links you think I missed or that don't fit here (I was mostly trying to think of what Fear the aspect would INSTILL, not what the Aspect-bound would be scared of since that would mostly be the opposite aspect's territory, but some of these might start to slide into aversion a bit. Also! I was thinking of connecting Buried to TIme or Space, but eventually decided Hunt and Eye fit them better. Maybe you can connect it better than I could?)) (^_^)c

your scp submas comics are making me think of tma. there is an eldrich entity called the stranger (which, has an not!ingo au going around) and honestly this comic fits with it too. there are two deliverymen who look "like your everyday deliverymen" but are impossible to describe. at least nurse joy and officer jenny all have canon explanations, but ingo and emmet existing at every train station would be funny!
yeah tma !! That's the energy i was hoping to evoke (also pog nebulabun au !!) It would b super funny if Ingo and Emmet were scp-esque figures that just exist whereever trains are.. mayhaps they're an offshoot of some weird eldritch force (reshiram and zekrom i assume) and they have some weird abilities. But they're not malicious or anything they're just into trains :]
everybody in that circle knows that Ingo and Emmet are ?? weird entities that exist around trains. And it's v mysterious but they're not harmful or anything so everyone just ignores the fact that they seem to exist in every station at once

Venom x The Magnus Archives Crossover
Considering assigning Venom characters TMA entities and finding they pretty much hit all of them... (uh oh)
Eddie is a reporter, it's his job to observe and report, also seeing Maria suffering and being unable to help her--that's the Eye. He's afraid of heights (and also aliens from space) so that's The Vast. Eddie and any other symbiote host might also be the Corruption with themes of infection and toxic love, the Flesh due to shape changing, body warping, and forced cannibalism. Also the Web (Spider aligned), the Hunt, and the Stranger (because of the whole possession thing and it was clearly very upsetting for Anne the first time seeing Eddie as Venom.)
Venom, especially in the comics, also seems like he'd be aligned with The Dark.
Cletus, Frances, and Carnage are very Slaughter aligned. Also the Spiral as well as the Corruption as stated the above. Cletus and Carnage are also both Flesh aligned (cannibalism, literally rips him apart when he transforms).
Cletus and Frances are also both individually in solitary confinement that's the Buried or the Lonely.
Eddie hitting rock bottom in Venom 1 also has shades of the Lonely.
Cletus also gets the End being on death row and either he or Dan also hits the Desolation. Maybe both.
Carnage tornado might also be the Vast.
Then there's a the Extinction with the threat of symbiote invasion.
Carlton Drake trying to play God and cheat Death/get off the planet would also be End and/or Extinction.
Eddie though hits the most Entities and probably shouldn't take any job offers from any suspicious British Institutes.
