Sure, I got bitten by mosquitoes, sweated my ass off and got mud all over my new jeans. But damn if I don’t love a good swamp.

RIP Luke Bell.
Luke Bell was one of a kind, truly. I don’t think there was ever a time really where I wouldn’t see him and beeline in for a hug and to say hello. I have many fond memories of Luke, including one hell of a photoshoot (likely his only major shoot that supplied photos for an album and press campaign), countless run-ins at Nashville bars and picking parties, and one particularly fun and drunken night of friends skinny dipping in the hot tub together. The latter, would be the last time I saw him.
Luke had a sound that was simply his own. I loved his voice. The man had a hell of a gift. He also had a hell of a heart. He loved his friends. Lukes tragic death however will not overshadow what he gave to any of us who knew him - sincere friendship, an inspiring musical collaborator, and to so many, his wonderful music. I am personally hesitant to say more as so many details are not public, so I’d rather write to elevate Luke beyond the tragedy, because Luke was and is much more than his fade from public eye and death. Luke was a real deal person and friend, who happened to make kickass music a lot of people loved. A lot of people loved him and called him friend. That’s the Luke I remember.
To those who were especially close to Luke, I am especially so sorry. My heart goes out to Matt Kinman, the Bell family, and all of the people who prayed and cared for Luke during these impossibly hard years. You’ll never be forgotten by us, Luke. Photo of Luke and Bill at my old studio from I believe 2014 or 2015. Photos of Luke are often ones I had taken, as these came from his album/press session for his 2016 self titled album.
