2003 Headcanon: Age Order Role Switching

So I wanna talk about a headcanon I've had for a really long time; namely, the "age order" for the 2003 turtles. They were all born at the same time, but they sorta take on age order roles. The most obvious is Leo as the eldest, Mikey as the youngest, and Raph and Donnie in the middle. They take on these age roles and default to Leo, Raph, Donnie, Mikey.

HOWEVER, they switch their age order role around depending on what everyone needs. If one of them is having a bad day, they get baby-brothered. If one of them is feeling super protective, they get older-brothered.

Raph and Donnie switch the most. Raph gets into older brother mode when he's protecting Donnie while he's trying to do his techno-genius.

Donnie goes big brother mode when Mikey and Leo are out and Raph's pacing because they're a little late and Donnie will help distract him by info-dumping or sparring. Donnie goes big brother mode when Raph is upset by Splinter missing. He does it when they're working in the garage together and he's patiently teaching Raph how to fix up his bike for the first time so Raph can do it himself.

Raph becomes the oldest brother during the City at War arc, because Leo's upset and obsessing over this one thing and he can't stop, and Donnie and Mikey are following him mostly so he doesn't get into trouble. Leo becomes baby brother and they're catering to him because he can't stop thinking about it, he can't let it go.

Donnie becomes big brother to Leo during the Big Brawl, when he's hovering over Leo and grabbing Usagi's wrist and threatening "Don't you dare touch him." Leo becomes the youngest when he's sick. He wants to be babied when he's sick even if he won't admit it.

Mikey becomes older brother when all his brothers are worn out and hopeless and scared and he has to make jokes. When he's about to be dissected, he becomes the oldest brother and makes jokes so his little brothers don't panic. So Raph squeezing his eyes shut and looking away will be reassured that Mikey's not scared, even if they're all so scared they're fucking terrified.

Mikey becomes the eldest during Leo's post-exodus arc, and Leo becomes the youngest. He's hurting and only Mikey recognizes how. Leo becomes his big brother again when he's training him for the Battle Nexus, and he smiles softly at Mikey and tells him he knew he could do it, and Mikey gets a glimpse of his big brother. It slips away again before he can grasp that version of him and hold him steady.

After Usagi leaves in Samurai Tourist, everyone disperses to their rooms except Mikey, because Mikey saw Leo's face, saw Leo's fingers twitching and his hands shaking and the expression and he goes after his little brother and becomes the eldest while he holds Leo and doesn't tell him that everything's going to be okay. He doesn't tell Leo he did his best, that he's good, that it's not his fault. He just repeats over and over that he loves Leo so much. Leo is his brother and he loves him so much, no matter what.

Anyway this is closely tied to my "2003 Leo has OCD" headcanon which I will also write one day.

Leonardo X Fem! Reader who's short and busty

Note(s) : I sort of focused on the short and busty part, so if you want more general Headcanons I can do that.

Leonardo doesn't mind your height, he's a giant mutant turtle, he's never exactly been one to care for appearances. He knows what it's like to be judged and excluded, so even if he makes a small joke once or twice, it's never out of malice and always something you can laugh to.

Speaking of, his jokes are those sneaky ones, ones you maybe can't even tell are there until hours after the conversation. They're not so much jokes as they are funny jabs? It's strange.

Okay, so, he strikes me as the type of guy who wouldn't really look at all, he's respectful, looking away respectfully if you will, and doesn't mention your bust unless it's a conversation revolving around it.

The bare minimum, yet still, he exceeds most men.

At first when he realises you're in pain, he thinks that you must've injured yourself somehow. Maybe you lifted something too heavy, maybe you fell down the stairs.

He can't exactly figure out if you have back pain from your chest, not until you tell him directly, he's not an idiot by any means, he just doesn't really connect 'big boob = pain'

I can imagine he's one of those guys who just doesn't understand that boobs have weight to them, yes they exist I have met them, but it's less because he refused to learn and more so because... He's a mutant turtle with a mutant rat dad who's been forced to live in the sewers with three brothers, he isn't too knowledgeable on human female anatomy.

When you tell him, probably after he questions you because he's concerned. He offers a cuddle, maybe some soup and tea if April isn't busy and she can buy them for you, he doesn't know how else to help besides resting?

He probably tries to learn how to massage, which is difficult for him because, you know, only three fingers, and researches how to help back pain, both in general and in reference to a larger bust.

Leo probably wouldn't mind if you don't wear a bra around the sewer, they can get uncomfortable especially if they have wiring in them, and he thinks it's best to prioritise comfort for one's self than tip toe around what others could think.

His brothers, especially Mikey, joke all the time about the fact he managed to get you, not in a weird way, they're not jealous at all and view you as a friend, but they just find it funny because Leo is the last guy besides Donnie they expected to get a girlfriend, let alone one as nice as you.

Leo always forgets that you're together, because how could you choose him? Out of all of the guys you could fall in love with, it just so happened to be him, it confuses him, because you could've had someone normal.

Leonardo really wants to get Splinters approval, which isn't too hard because Splinter thinks you're a great girlfriend, you basically complete Leo and make it happy, it's hard to disagree against that.

You know how in schools or work places, the dress codes usually target female presenting people? Yeah, he's the boyfriend that lets you rant to him about how awful it is, and he's also the type of boyfriend to nod along and occasionally go 'That's horrible 😡'

If you ever get catcalled expect the rare moment of Leo using his mutant looks to scare people, he's basically scary boyfriend privileges, the second he steps out of the light people are screaming in fear.

He probably feels bad about it afterwards, not because he feels sympathy for the people he scared, but because he feels like a monster.

Nightmares (ROTTMNT Leo x Reader)

A/n: Short drabble I had to get out of my mind. Takes place after the movie.

Word Count: 493

Warnings: PTSD, dealing with trauma, anxiety, etc.

It's been three weeks since the Krang nearly killed Leo.

He can walk now, painful and slow, but he's no longer strictly on bed rest. Donnie finally released him after multiple days of whining and complaining from Leo became too much for anyone to bear to listen to. Since then he would fall asleep easily exhausted in his own bed and in the morning be found in one of his brother's.

Tonight though the rest must all be sleeping deeply enough that he doesn't want to be a bother to them. He passes through your doorway, a dark silhouette against darker silhouettes; you're only awake enough to know he's there because of the strangled yell you heard come from him a minute ago. You can hear his shaky breaths alternating with the pad of his bare feet on the concrete floor as he gets closer, his shoulders hunched in pain and fists clenched in residual fear.

Without a word, you lift your blankets and he clumsily settles in, wrapping himself around you like he wants as much of himself to be as close to you as it can possibly be. He pulls you to his chest and you worry about causing him pain but after a moment's hesitation place your hand along his face slowly feeling over the side of his cheek and jaw.

"Leo," you say, hand sliding towards his shoulder, "you're okay." Your fingers go back up to his cheek again, "It's okay, I'm here."

He buries his face in between your neck and your shoulder where you're not sure how he can even breathe, his fingers in one hand tangling in your hair, the other is wrapped around your waist protectively keeping you close to him.

"You're safe. You say, feeling his breaths start to even the tiniest bit. "Everyone's safe. We're all okay."

It breaks your heart to see him - to feel him - be so terrified. But it's nothing compared to when you believed he was gone forever. He's here right now and he's okay. He's going to be okay, and you'll be right here, holding him and knowing that he's not going anywhere.

"It was you." He mumbles. "You were gone. I couldn't do anything." He inhales. "You were just... gone."

Tears well up in the corners of your eyes. You had assumed the nightmare was about his brothers, not you. "I'm not gone. I'm not going anywhere." You say and place your hands firmly against his skin. "I'm right here."

In time you both fall asleep holding each other so close that your heartbeats and breaths become one inseparable reflection of life.

In the morning you're still right there. Still in his arms where you'll stay until he decides to let go. Until the feeling returns to your limbs and you start your day. And maybe he'll follow you around a bit more closely than normal, and that's okay because you're not going anywhere.

Sure ^^ (canonically, I think the turtles would've been probably 13 during that time)

Leo:

He and his brothers were watching it happen on TV

He remembers everything...

The sadness, the pain, the devastating grief...

And it hurt him that that affected you so deeply

He tried his very best to give you comfort

"I know that was probably hard to talk about... but I'm proud of you"

If you had any tears, he'd wipe/kiss them away, followed by hugs and small comforting kisses at your temple and in your hair

Raph:

He remembers seeing it on TV when he was watching something with Splinter

As everything on the screen passed by he just questioned and wondered... WHY?

And hearing you say this made his heart and chest hurt

He wasn't that good at showing much emotion

But he hoped that feeling his strong arms and soft kisses bought you some peace of mind, and in your heart

And that you felt safe with him

"It'll be alright now, doll. I'm not going to let anything hurt you again..."

Donnie:

"Oh, dove. I know that must've been horrible..."

He remembers that day, rushing into the living room at Master Splinter's urgency

It saddened him deeply

And to think that you were one of unlucky ones that it impacted

"I'm so sorry for your loss..."

He gives you whatever you need or want

Anything he planned, it was put on hold

He was going to spend this time with you

He will be so sweet, so giving, because he wants to be sure that you are alright

You were, after meeting him that is...

Mikey:

"Aw, baby... I'm sorry..."

"...That's okay, Mikey..."

"No, it's not okay. You shouldn't have to bear that on your shoulders"

He gave a pause before pulling you into his arms

"...I wish I could take it all for you"

He will give you all the hugs and kisses in the world

He will do whatever to make you happy

You were his sunshine as well as he was yours

Usagi:

His heart ached for you

He felt your pain

"I am deeply sorry that you lost those close to you"

His face, his eyes, held a warmth and love that melted your heart

He held you to him

He held you in his arms, doing anything to see your smiling face

"As long as they live on in your heart, they are never truly gone, or forgotten"

"I think LGBTQ headcanons are great and ships are awesome, but I feel like alot of fandoms, especially Rise, kind of ruined it for me? Like, I would be interested in Leosagi if Leosagi wasn't a thing just so Leo has a boyfriend to be gay for or Usagi is dumbed down to be just "Leo's Boyfriend".

It just feels like people here get so irate at the mention of straight headcanons or you need to make it gay in order for it to be correct or "representational" when it feels like it isn't needed. Like the headcanon takes over EVERYTHING else about the character and is the only personality they have and that kind of ruins it for me.

I'm not saying DON'T DO THIS AND BLAH BLAH BLAH TERRIBLE GAY SHIT because people have headcanons for fun but I'm talking about the ones where people are like "Mine is correct and you can't change my mind and if you don't have a gay headcanon, then you're probably homophobic and problematic". That's just the general vibe I get, and it kind of ruined alot of fun headcanons for me."

hokay. so. here’s the earth. I don’t really go there, it’s not my jurisdiction, my dvd region or IP address but I know you gotta have your control group and experimental groups, so. do I know if splinter and the boys should actually be referred to the as the control group? hahahahha-- no, not at all. but no scientist is over my shoulder to check my work so moving on.

April’s dad probably tried to go an ethics board or OSHA or whatever for Sacks’ bullshit, didn’t get anywhere so took shit into his own hands ‘cuz I guess fuck them animals-- doesn’t matter April Hogosha O’Neil saves Splinter and the boys. Lab’s ruined, Sacks is out (supposedly) one big-ass container of ooze. now a person with their shit together would have gathered the information in order to proceed to the next point.

but.

ha! anyway. Sadsack kills April’s dad, and probably has a tiff and a half with Shredder about the lab destruction. Shredder probably got maaaad, like you’re his student and you got your whole shit destroyed in a fire? embarrassing. anyway, Shredder’s shrewd as fuck, keeps Sadsack on to do his little science things but now monitored. heavily. i’mma pretend the experimental groups were housed in a different building and thus spared the control group’s fiery “death”. Shredder’s a hoarder with a sunk-cost fallacy complex and probably kept those going under a different team. Sadsack wasn’t notified because a) Shredder can’t trust him with nothing apparently 2) if he did know, he’s the kind of arrogant prick to be all “do not sully my mind with subgrade projects wah wah, my dumbass likes to pretend I’m so calculating but a nerd with a lighter ruined like x years of research”

turns out those experimental groups became something, wow. I’d feel like in terms of testing out multiple variations of the formula, venus and jennika had the least, then slash, then tokka and rahzar. and just ‘cuz all this was started by being tagged in someone’s ask... I feel like maybe Mona and Leatherhead were an extra test group tacked onto the roster after seeing Venus and Jennika gain sentience and gorgeous cheekbones. ‘cuz if that happened, “wouldn’t it be dope if we got a komodo dragon (instead of a salamander, or maybe some Jurassic Park shit and splicing that salamander into a komodo dragon lol y not) and an alligator to do a backflip while throwing a knife?”

anyway, everyone’s gaining sentience like a tiktok dance trend, Venus and Jennika get carted away from the Foot scientists to train. for how long? until what age? i dunno, whatever’ll endear them most to the grandpa character I’d have them meet in Chinatown after they decide to go rogue. but backtracking, they get some training in before plot shenanigans and hey, they should go to nyc because “we have a branch of the Foot Clan there, USDA, FDA, NBA, CIA, FBI are too nosy so we’ll ship our more containment breachy subjects to japan or whereever we can keep thing until we can introduce them in later movies that’d happen in a brighter timeline.”

so like, first of all, you can’t tell kids nothing, and the Foot were the dumbasses who decided to teach teenage girls paramilitarized ninjutsu ig idk how the Foot was supposed to be in the bay movies. Sites say it’s a paramilitary group started by Sacks’n Shredder, Shredder talks as if it’s a reincarnation of the ninja Foot Clan so.... whatevs, my daughters learn ninjutsu. and they’re being shipped off to nyc. and because you can’t keep humanity down Venus and Jennika’s “trainers” didn’t depersonalize them like they were supposed to, and look, they’ve got personalities now. they have hobbies. you ruined a perfectly good killing machine is what you did.

and ‘cuz teenage girls are the most unstoppable force on this planet, they break out mid-shipment and enter nyc on their own terms. bright, shiny nyc to girls who can turn your guts into confetti. amazing, perfect. just gonna glide over unnecessary shit and just assume they slipped through NYC like Leo did in the Mutanimal base in the IDW run (which, I have to give that couple of pages its flowers, that was the most real life ninja shit I’ve ever seen in a TMNT comic in my accessible memory bravo) cue nyc tourist montage. my girls are not above swiping shit directly off of people, so they have a great time. they grab beef patties and chopped cheeses, like 20 little blue cups of nyc joe, they swipe I <3 NY shirts that they can kinda fit in (good luck fitting into that shit when you’re older babes)

they wind up in Chinatown (clikkit is2g) did a great job of flying under human radar and oops, not this one old man. lucky for my daughters they’re lucky (plotwise) and lucky (symbolically), that Old Man Chung offers them refuge, cue bonding montage, aww, an old man scuttling after rambunctious freshly adopted daughters. Grandpa Chung has a traditional medicine shop, let’s say Brooklyn’s Chinatown in Sunset Park just like in my tmnt au and Venus learns his trade and branches off from there, they hang out with the Tai Chi uncles and aunties on Sundays and then, oh no! purple dragons!

cue the City At War arc which would’ve worked wonderfully with the bay movies (as a little entree before krang comes back “stronger”), worth at least two extra movies, Bay could blow up as many luxury brand cars as his widdle hearty-wearty desires with them. ....shit that would have been so fucking cool.

anyway, blah blah, City At War adaptation, everyone’s fighting, shit’s getting confusing-- bam! turtle on turtle violence then reconciliation then sick-ass group hero shot and bad guys just getting shellshocked left’n right. turtle chaos. Leo and Raph absolutely mandatorily must get dunked on. it’s in my contract. donnie and mikey are fine. Venus won’t even fight Donnie too much on the science/’magic’ shit because she figured out where he keeps the pop tarts and just ‘cuz bay Donnie seems too chill and level-headed to get worked up about the whole “wuh bUt mAgiC hAs No sCieNtiFiC bAaAaAsiS baa baa baa” but probably asks why Venus collects so many discarded crystal rocks, “.. sometimes rock shiny, rock nice! most important... rock projectile weapon, hhgkh!!”
