You knew he had feelings for April. You had known from the very start. It was not hard for anyone to see. With the way he would tense up when she came around, the blush that would rush to his face whenever she teased or complimented him, or his nervous laughter when he was talking to her. Leo had a big crush on April, and everybody knew that, with the expedition of April herself. Everybody saw the way the mutant turtle would sigh after her, and his brothers loudly teased him whenever they got the chance. Yet, you still hoped for a chance. You still held a glimmer of hope that it wasn’t true, and that Leo in fact didn’t harbor such deep feelings for your friend.

Ever since you first met Leo and his brothers, the first day they attended Eastman High, you felt this tingling sensation deep within you, as your crush on the oldest mutant turtle started growing. You couldn’t help it. There was just something about him. His sweet manners, and his sometimes awkward and shy tendencies. He was adorable. But not even you could overlook the obvious feelings he had for April. You could stand between the two of them, and Leo’s eyes would still be on April. Yet she would never look back at him. Kind of the same way you would look at Leo, yet his eyes would be locked on her, without ever meeting yours. And therefore you kept the hope that one day Leo would give up his longing looks at April, and let his eyes fall on you.

Even as you went to prom without a date, you hoped deep within that this was the night that Leo would see you in a different light. With both of you coming to prom without a date, it gave you an excuse to spend time together. But all of those dreams were shattered the moment you stepped into the prom, seeing Leo and April dancing the robot dance together, laughing and smiling. That was the moment you realized that there was no hope. Leo was into April, not you. He had been so ever since you met him, and it would most likely stay like that. It stung you quite a bit, and as the night continued on, you felt worse by the moment, watching them have fun together. Therefore you left way earlier than you had anticipated, not telling either Leo, April or the others where you left.

After that evening, things were much different between you and Leo. Or more, for you whenever, you saw Leo. You started avoiding him, not wishing to see him and make the hurting in your heart even worse. You could only imagine how terrible it would be for you, if you one day saw him and April together. You could be standing with one of his brothers, talking about whatever, but as soon as you saw him, you would make up an excuse, and leave as soon as possible. This went on for several days, and before you knew it, it had been weeks since you and Leo last spoke.

As time went on, you found yourself thinking less and less about Leo. However, it took quite some time before you got to that point. For the first few days you had to fight the urge of talking to Leo. There was once a time where you would do pretty much everything in order to talk to him. Text him, call him, follow him around on school grounds. And for the first few days, you felt the urge to do that again, go back to your old habits. But you resisted, not wishing to hurt yourself further than you needed to.

You went on with your life, getting into the hobbies you felt like you had forgotten. You spend more time with school work, and hung out with friends when the opportunity came up. The thought of Leo took up a smaller and smaller space inside your head, and before you knew it, you found yourself looking for other love interests in your life, soon finding yourself talking with a guy from Eastman High’s football team. And for a time, you forgot all about Leo.

For Leo however, it was a different story. After he had invited April to prom, he thought that was it. It was locked and loaded. It was a date. He was interested in her, and she was interested in him. It was as simple as that, and for a time, Leo finally felt himself relax a little around April. Leo even allowed himself to do silly dances with April, not fearing what she would think of him. And she danced along! Leo could feel his heart sing with happiness and pride. He was actually going somewhere with April. This was almost too good to be true! And he was right…

“This is as friends, right?”, April had asked, leaving Leo frozen mid-motion. How the hell was he supposed to answer that? He had no other option than to agree with her. Yes, they were at prom together as friends. And with that conversation, Leo could no longer deny what he had hoped to be false - April just wasn’t interested in him. She saw him as a friend. And just that. A friend.

That revelation had left Leo stumped for some time. For a few days he was closed off, and not as talkative as he usually would have been, all while he worked through the emotions he was feeling. He was feeling hurt. Not that he was going to blame April for it, she had every right to not be interested, but it still hurt. And it didn’t help one bit that you suddenly seemed to be avoiding him, leaving whatever you were doing with an excuse, as soon as he came around. He was already sad enough of what had happened at prom, he did not need this to happen as well.

But as days turned into weeks, and Leo saw less and less of you, he found himself wondering. He was confused, his confusion growing greater than the hurt he had felt for April. As he saw less of you, he started finding himself looking for you. He would go to school everyday, thinking that today you would come up to him, like you normally did, asking him some random question, before following him to class. Just like you used to. It was sort of nice. Whenever a door at school opened, he would look up, hoping it was you that came through. With every sound of his phone, he hoped it was you texting him. But it wasn’t. You still haven’t texted him in weeks… You haven't spoken to him in weeks… The more Leo thought about that, the more he found himself confused. And once again, the hurt came up. A greater hurt than the one he had felt with April. With April, Leo at least knew it deep inside, even though he didn’t want to admit it. But whatever was happening to you, came totally out of the blue, and it left Leo feeling strange. This strange feeling inside of him, that he couldn’t explain. You had never made him feel so conflicted before. However, it was just a matter of time before Leo realized what those feelings meant.

Leo had stayed at the school longer than usual, helping April with her school news. No matter what Apri had said at prom, she was still his friend, and he still intended on helping her. However now he could finally relax while doing so, not being worried about what feelings she may, may not have for him. It was a relief - he did not have to worry about April's feelings anymore.

Leo continued to feel that relief as he packed his stuff, before he made his way down the empty hallways, towards the main exit. Here he was prepared to walk out to the fresh afternoon air, before making his way home. But the moment Leo stepped out the doors, he was met by a sight that stopped him dead in his tracks. There you stood on the steps, with your arms wrapped around the neck of one of the football jocks, a happy smile on your face as the two of you kissed.

If April had made Leo hurt, then you had directly harmed him, making his heart break and bleed. He lost his breath at the sight, feeling cold shock run through his body. So many feelings was running through him. It was as if time stood still, yet his mind was running to catch up with what was happening. Then finally, as the two of you broke apart, smiling at each other, Leo finally realized what was happening. You had given up on him. You had moved on with your life, seeing what else was out there. Leo felt ashamed and stupid. For so long he had only had eyes for April, that he hadn’t noticed the way you had been looking at him, or how hard you had been working for his attention. But now it was too late. You had moved on, and Leo finally realized blind he had been. Leo did not blame you for moving on. He only blamed himself, for not realizing it any sooner. His friendship with you was truly one of the best things that had happened in his life, and he had fucked up. So now he was left standing, and watching, as another was taking up the space he once held in your heart.

Leo could not help but kick himself mentally, over and over again when he came home that day. Fucking stupid crushes and stupid prom dates. He should just have asked you. Had he asked you, it would probably have been him you had kissed on the school steps. But sadly, it wasn’t. And now Leo was forced to look at you, the same way you had been looking at him for so long, hoping that you one day would look back at him the same way you did before.

Headcanon: Bayverse Turtles x reader

Warnings: SFW, angst + a little fluff, mention of injury

A/N: really appreciate all of the love shown to my last headcanon post, so I thought I'd do another one! switching up the tone tho and doing a little bit of angst ~ hope you enjoy!

we all know that Leo probably has the best handle on his emotions of all the turtle brothers

so when he sees your injured form, on the outside he probably looks a healthy amount of concerned

but inside he is absolutely going beserk

like amber alert sounds going off in his brain fr

he asks Donnie what to do as they quickly tend to your injury but as they work, there is a ringing in his ears

when you wake up from being unconscious, the first thing he does is let out a big sigh of relief, and then "how're you holding up, princess? can I do anything for you?"

and when you smile softly back at him and say "I'm okay now, love, I promise" his heart is going to shatter and then put itself back together again all at once

he is so quick to do anything and everything to alleviate your pain

while you are healing, of course he takes the main shift in caring for you

he is constantly refilling your water bottle, bringing you food or tea, changing out your bandages

he'll even sit on the chair next to your bed and read to you, just to take your mind off of any pain you may be experiencing

our guy in blue is very motherly and nurturing in that way

but lowkey, he will take any chance he gets to step out of the room because of how much it pains him to see you like this

he'll lean against the wall outside of the lab/infirmary and rub his temples, furrowing his brow ridge and holding in tears

his most precious, delicate flower, trampled by the cruel, outside world

but he won't let you see his pre-grief; you only see him with a smile on his face

it's only when you start making visible progress with your injury that he starts to feel okay again

because the physical proof that you are going to recover reassures him that he is not going to lose you any time soon

omg when Big Red saw you injured... his world literally came to a halt

like record scratch type of halt

his biggest fear in the whole wide world is losing his family, and you are a part of his family now

so he is simply beside himself with fear and worry and is absolutely desperate and angry until he knows that you're going to make it

he will be snapping at whoever is tending to your wounds, if anyone tries to pull him away from you he WILL FIGHT THEM

he is very not okay and very emotional

once he gets a moment alone, he will definitely let the emotions take over and cry to himself

when you first wake up, he will say or do whatever he can to make you feel tough, because he doesn't want you feeling weak while down for the count

"damn, you really showed 'em, huh tiger? you shoulda seen the guy, he was limpin' away after the stunt you pulled."

swears up and down that he will kill whoever touched you, and even though raph is a violent guy, he's not a killer. but he 100% means what he says

however, a big part of him is going to blame himself. for not being with you, for letting you get in the way of danger, for even allowing you to be a part of a life like this to begin with.

but you can read the big guy like a book. so you give him a knowing smile and tenderly reassure him: "I wouldn't do a thing differently. I love you, and I want to be with you no matter what."

you got him fucked up, that's for sure

and while you are healing he is in no way shape or form leaving your side for a SECOND

he will fall asleep next to your infirmary bed, he will eat meals next to you, he will do whatever Donnie tells him to, but he will not be able to physically bear leaving your side

man's top quality is his loyalty, and while his fears or insecurities may get the best of him every once in a while, he's in it too deep now, and he'll do anything to be by your side

~Donatello~

as we expect, Donnie is able to keep his head on straight when he sees that you're injured

he knows that he has to have his wits about him because he's the only qualified medic of the group

but deep, deep down he is in full-on panic mode

Don keeps different groups of tabs open in his brain (like on a google chrome browser), and while one of the groups is flipping through every medical textbook he has ever read, another group is just going "Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N Y/N--"

over and over again like a computer system error

his brothers are trying to help him tend to your injuries but he is extremely strict with whatever they do and has a very hard time letting go of the reins

as he's talking to them, he looks concentrated and steady, but his voice will not stop cracking

once he has decided that you are stable and going to be okay is when he breaks down

he's definitely also a crier, and can't help but think about how he almost lost you and can't function without you

but he gets a hold of himself, continues to chronically monitor your vitals and pain levels, and then immediately gets to work on a new invention to keep you safe

when you first wake up, now that he's feeling a little more confident with your condition, he'll say something silly to cheer you up, like "well hello to my newest little experiment"

and you'll smile back at him with a joking "hi, Doctor Dee", insisting that you're fine as he asks you a bunch of analytical questions about your symptoms

after he's done playing doctor, he'll just sit next to you for a moment in silence, looking apprehensive

but you know exactly what he's thinking, so you say "you're my hero, Donatello. you know that, don't you?"

he gets so blushy and flustered at that, but has the biggest smile on his face

~Michelangelo~

surprisingly, when Mikey sees you hurt, he goes quiet

you would think that with our goofball in orange, his reaction would be super over-the-top and dramatic

no, mans goes dead silent

he never gave much thought to what his fears in life were before this, but he has realized that one of his biggest fears has just come true

he asks Donnie what he needs to do, and he doesn't think he has ever sounded more desperate in his life

he does his tasks immediately and with the utmost attention to detail, no protests and no questions asked

his brothers have never seen him like this before in their lives: so focused and concerned and quiet

they'll tell you about it later, as a testament to how much the guy lives and breathes for you

once Don has confirmed that you are stable and going to be okay, he lets out the biggest sigh of relief and overall goes back to his old self

when you wake up from unconsciousness, you're a little confused as to what happened, and he just goes "you got hurt on your way down from heaven, angel!"

he does everything he can to comfort you and make you smile and relieve your pain while you're recovering

he'll bring his speaker in and play you some of your favorite songs, sometime putting on elaborate performances to get you to laugh

he'll try and cuddle with you in your hospital bed and whine when Donnie protests

"awe come on, Doctor Dee! help a dude out a little!"

but he'll be successful whenever Donnie is sleeping or too engrossed in one of his other projects, and he'll lay next to you and stroke your hair

but whenever he remembers that moment when he thought he had lost you, he will go dark for a moment or two

and he will do whatever it takes to ensure that it never happens again.

he’s trimming his bonsai (you know how much he treasures them)

he’s slightly humming “boy’s a liar too

you’re reading a book whilst in the dojo

the dojo is quiet except for the calculated snips

you decided to save the next chapter of your book for later, so you quietly go on your phone

until you see a cute couples date idea on your ‘for you’ page

“hey, leo?”

you didn’t expect your voice to come off as wayy louder than intended

and neither did your boyfriend

the blue-masked ninja jumps at the unexpected noise

so much so that he knocks his bonsai over

his heart stops and he swiftly dove to the floor and scrambled to juggle the plant before finally catching it

he wipes his forehead and breathes a loud sigh of relief

however, you’re laughing your literal ass off

never have you seen him so visibly stressed

you were convinced he was gonna have a heart attack

hunched over and gripping your own sides, you’re hollering

and out comes snorts while you laugh

but as soon as you realize you’re snorting, you put a hand to your mouth

as you blink in embarrassment and security,

leo smiles over at you in adoration

with those criminal cute dimples too

you stood from your seat and your brows furrowed together

you stop briefly outside of the lair’s entrance, tears pricking at your eyes

you feel the droplets on your lashes, and you can’t look at him

so, he stands in front of you

raph’s expression instantly softens

“baby… yer speakin’ nonsense.”

he gently takes your hand in his big, rough and calloused one

your pout quivers as your lips do so, your shoulders shaking slightly as you cry

you move to cover your mouth and half of your face with your other hand as you cry

but he stops you

and he carefully places it on his cheek

and his left hand rests on your cheek too

your gaze flickers to meet his amber eyes

Your eyes are still on him and his tongue feels too big for his mouth as he presses it against his teeth. Is this what you feel when he stares, he wonders. If so, he might have to apologise at some point when he feels less mortified because he’s starting to feel faint and his knees are weak and he’s gripping the kitchen counter a bit too hard. If just looking at him causes this reaction, he can’t imagine what it would be like if you were to touch him the way he’s dreamed about. He feels a little delirious at the thought, lightheaded and feeling the urge to churr and giggle which are sounds he doesn’t want anyone to hear ever. Well, anyone but you.

He’s the first to look away, his eyes resisting the movement as though they were magnets fighting to stay stuck on your figure. If he doesn’t look away, he’d probably pass out and he would never live that down. He freezes when his eyes instead find Donnie reclining against a wall and watching him behind his stupid glasses with a subtle smirk half-hidden by an outrageously oversized cup of coffee.

“Not a word.” He hisses quietly, thankful that it was Donnie at least and not, god forbid, Raphael who caught his staring.

Donnie just snickers.

One of his favorite pranks is when you're sitting at the dining table for a meal, he makes eye contact, licks his lips, then stands from his chair, leaning across the table with puckered lips.

You lean forward, giggling and mumbling something about how 'he can't even wait five minutes for another kiss'

And then.....he leans down and takes the straw of your drink into his mouth and happily sipps whatever is in the cup.

Then he sits back and resumes his meal, ignoring how you kick his shin under the table.

Donnie:

Any kissing that can involve him rubbing his nose on you <3

He just can't get enough of you and sometimes just a simple kiss isn't enough, so he'll rub your noses together and then kiss you

He likes coming up behind you and bending down (literally almost in half) and wrapping his noddle arms around you and nuzzling your neck until you turn around and he can get a little smooch

He also nuzzles your cheek, he'll start at your jaw, work his way up your cheek and cheekbone, and then stop at your nose.

And YES, he is chirping the whole time

Secret hint: is you want Donnie to fall head over heels for you, come up behind him while he's working and hug his shoulders, rub his chest and arms while nuzzling his neck

Raph:

Raph doesn't necessarily have a favorite, but he loves kissing you in places where you have something he doesn't

For example, ears -its a bit weird but just listen- he doesn't have them and thinks they're so cute

So when yall are snuggling and kissing, he'll start at your jaw and kiss his way to your ears, kissing just under it, behind it, then a flurry of little kisses on the lobes

If he's feeling a bit playful he might even give a small nip and tug (nothing that would hurt of course, just something to make you gasp or giggle)

Also, eyelids, and yes I know he had eyelids, but not like yours! He doesn't have eyelashes, so he uses the kisses as an excuse to get a closer look at you

He'll get right up in your face and just stare before kissing your eyelids.

Normally he does it as you guys are going to bed, he uses it to make you close your eyes for sleep.

And finally, hands! You have so many fingers and he just feels deep down that he needs to kiss all of them. Along with your palm, knuckles, the back of your hand and your wrists.

Your hands are just so dainty and small to him, and he can't get enough of them.

A/N: I’ve finally gained access to all seasons of TMNT 2012! That means that I can finally watch them all the way from start to finish! So here’s a little headcanon to celebrate with💙❤️💜🧡

Leonardo:

Leonardo would be the responsible and reliable one and he prides himself that way. And just like with the rest of his family, he would see you and your safety as his responsibility. As Leo’s crush on you develops further and further, he would become even more protective and would make sure you're safe during missions. It would get to a point where he would text you to make sure you were okay, even if you weren’t coming along with him and his brothers. But it would go further than that. Leonardo would check up on you regularly with some form of excuse. Something happened on the mission and he needed to know you were okay. He saw something on the news so he would just check in. He broke the toaster and there was a spark, so he had to make sure it didn’t hurt you… even though you were in your own home. It didn’t take more than half a brain cell to realize that Leo was just looking for excuses to talk to you. But that didn’t change the fact that Leo did actually worry about your safety. He'd subtly offer you training sessions and enjoy spending one-on-one with you in the dojo - even though he would panic slightly whenever you got close to him. But even when he was about to mentally scream because of your close proximity, Leonardo would still compliment you on your skill. His compliments would be subtle, but his actions spoke volumes. He would compliment you often about the smallest things. Even though you didn’t seem to notice, Leo’s brothers would look at him like he was a lost cause. To a certain degree they were right. Because as Leonardo’s crush on you grew, he would only grow more and more flustered whenever you were around. You didn’t see it, but everyone else did. Wide eyes that would look in every direction, thinking of something to talk to you about, other than your skills in the dojo or their latest mission.

Raphael:

When Raphael first started crushing on you, not much of his behavior would change. He would stay his gruff turtle self with a small sarcastic comment every now and then. But as his feelings for you started to develop, his actions would follow suit. Raph would start to tease you more. Not like he did with his brothers, but in a more caring way. Yet he would never dare to admit it was because he liked you more than as a friend. Raph would poke you quite often. There was a need in him to be close to you, yet he did not know how to express it in a way he felt comfortable with. So therefore he would poke you, finding it hilarious and adorable if you got annoyed. Was he walking past you while you were eating? Poke. Had you been quiet for long while watching the TV? Poke. Were you talking to one of his brothers? He would continuously poke you until you directed your attention towards him, just to leave with a; “what? I didn’t do anything”. But as much as Raphael liked to tease you, he did not know how to react to the feeling of his beating heart whenever he saw you. As his feelings grew and his heart started beating faster, Raph would start to appear more aloof than usual. That would usually happen when he didn’t expect you to be around. The sheer shock of seeing without mentally preparing himself forced him to act as if you weren’t there. But when Raph was prepared for your pressens, he would annoy you like there was no tomorrow. He would challenge you to spontaneous sparring matches, wanting to see your skills and even show off his own. But as annoying as Raph could be, he would also be nice to you. He'd surprise you with small gestures of kindness, like fixing something for you without saying a word. Like dropping snacks into your lap if you were hungry, without looking you in the eyes.

Donatello:

Donnie, the tech genius, would find subtle ways to impress you with his intelligence. It meant a lot for him when his intelligence was complimented, especially by you. So after the first time you commented on how smart he was, it became his go to way when it came to gain your attention. He would build you gadgets or modify equipment just for you. He would usually present them to you as a gift you had earned for the smallest reasons. You had done great at school or work, or you made that really good cake a long time ago. One time he made you something because you; “remembered to drink water”. But gift giving things Donatello had made was not the only way he would try to gain and keep your attention. Donnie would enjoy engaging in deep conversations with you about science or any other shared interests. But as much as Donnie liked to talk to you, he struggled with expressing his feelings verbally, like saying either too much or too little for his own liking. Like accidentally admitting to having a crush on you, only to try and cover it up by seeing he hated you, causing him even more embarrassment. Yet his actions and gestures spoke volumes and you caught on pretty early on, even before he unintentionally admitted anything. It wasn’t that hard with how clumsy and flustered Donnie would get when he was around you. He would become a blushing mess if your hand touched his while accepting his gift. Stumbling or dropping things weren’t uncommon either for Donatello when you were around. Donnie just couldn’t help it. It was not his fault he would shake like crazy whenever you were close to him. You could just stop being so sweet and maybe he wouldn’t embarrass himself every time he saw you.

Michelangelo:

Mikey would not be so subtle about his feelings for you. He would pretty much do and say everything in the book, but in a non traditional way. Being a fun-loving and carefree turtle by nature, would do anything in his power to make you laugh, and his non conventional and open way of going about his feelings for you certainly made you do so. The only reason the two of you didn’t start a romantic relationship any earlier, was because you thought he was joking with his extreme openness. Mikey would constantly crack jokes, hoping to make you smile. These jokes would extend to pranking his brothers while you were watching, much to their annoyance. Mikey would also invite you to pizza parties in his room, calling them dates from day one with no hesitation. He noticed very early on that you liked a particular type of pizza, and would make sure to bring you one every day instead of a bouquet of roses. At times Mikey would prank and playfully tease you, but never to the same extent as he did with his brothers. What he did to his brothers was meant to annoy them, and be used as a sort of entertainment for himself. But with you it was yet another way for him to show affection. Like not giving you the pizza he had brought for you, without at least a hug as payment. Or straight up blocking your way, demanding some sort of attention from you. If Mikey got nervous whenever you were around, he was definitely good at hiding it. But once you were gone and Mikey was left back with his brothers, he would have no peace not knowing when he would see you again. He would talk about you for hours, mentioning you out of nowhere, almost causing his brothers to become violent. But they soon learned that the best way to shut him up was simply to call you over and ask you to spend time with him.

It was 3:34 am and you couldn't sleep and donnie was just working in his lab and you just teleported behind him

He put multiple trackers on you after that incident

There are times where mikey would be trying to teach leo and Raph how to properly cook without burning down the kitchen

You and donnie were just there for the show

I headcanon that leo is pretty much an insomniac

He's walking into the kitchen at an ungodly hour to get like cola and chips or smoothing like that

Turns to open the fridge and just sees a small pair of legs dangling from the top.

He looks up seeing his little sibling just sitting on the fridge

“I cant get down…” “HOW DID YOU EVEN GET UP THERE?”

Raphs always now pestering leo to keep a first aid kit on him now for you
