The Kids're Alright: Mona Lisa?

(Getting closer to finalizing Raph's design, as you can see in the top image...)

So I didn't really get the Mona Lisa hype for a while there. She was like...okay as a character for me in the 2012 series, nothing special. But then I watched the 80s cartoon's version of her, and uh...yeah no I want her in my iteration, she's rad!

So far I think she's gonna slot in as a side character who's friends with Raph. I'm not sure where I stand on shipping in my iteration yet, but I will say he probably has at least a small crush on this badass lizard girl- even if it does just stay a minor background thing.

I'm thinking about the mutants in tmnt, that I know of so far, that got kicked out of their homes for being mutated.

Mondo Gecko in 2012 was kicked out of home and was living on the streets, fending for himself.

Mona in IDW was rejected by her parents. I haven't read IDW yet so I'm not sure if she still lives with her parents or if she's currently living elsewhere but she was still rejected by them when she told them she was mutated.

It's so upsetting because it's so tragic. It's not even their fault the two got mutated and then their families freak out and just kick them to the curb.

Honestly though, it's even more sad that these people can't even live normal lives anymore. They can't go to school, the store, anywhere in public really. They could maybe use a disguise but there's a possibility it wouldn't work anyway.

Their lives are still going on and they can find other mutants or maybe friendly humans if they're lucky but going out to eat, school, family functions, friends, your LIFE before all of this is over.

Of course you could have a new beginning with new people but it's still sad that their families just kicked them out like that, essentially removing any ties they might have had a slight chance at having to the human world.

One thing I love that they did with Raph and Mona Lisa’s relationship is that they actually showed that Mona Lisa has it bad for Raph just as much as he has it bad for her.

She often makes the first move, openly shows she loves and cares for him, kisses him any chance she gets, thinks about him constantly, sometimes even getting lost in her own imagination 🤭, and is even flattered, blushes, and is a little timid when he flirts with her, catching her off guard and breaking her stone cold serious lieutenant persona she has to constantly play.

It really fleshed out Mona’s character more, showing that her relationship with Raph isn’t one sided, she’s as much in love with him as he is with her and it’s adorable 🥰
