magny and artemis were always cursed with their fate, being part of ashduo and their inevitable fate in the universe. they clicked the trigger but nox/wenston was the one who gave them the gun and target. solaria and tungsten were always meant to die, solaria’s fate was coded into reality and tungsten’s was coded with hers. cee and mors arent as doomed but being deities of nox and their appearance in each reality, they are doomed. they could not stop new years, they could not change their fate. they were always meant to end up in a different reality and it cannot be rewritten

the gods were doomed. they had no choice. TMOP fell ill to her own insanity which was caused by Nox, Asteria was sent on a ship and abandoned by the universe, Leaf Hemlock was inevitably intertwined, NyxVulcan and Bismuth were the first true tragic story of the protocol, Dahlia and Agape were always doomed to die like every other matyr, The 5th could not control his death at the hands of The Godhunter, Zephyr fell because of his recklessness but nox was the one who set up his fall, Notos fell into the sea but nox sent out the storm, Eurus died to flames but the fire was lit long before then, Boreas withered away to the cold that he could not control. Selene could not have avoided her death as The Candle Queen and could not avoid her fate to kill The Mother of Puppets, Voidpyre was always doomed to merge with The Darkness like Solaria/TDA and Asteria/TAA.

There is no free strings, all of their fates were already written by WenSToN long before the story began. they are all trapped, no matter how free they may seem, their endings and tragedies were parts of the universe itself.

Uhmm adding on to this moot ask because I am to normal and silly (read:obsessed) about these things I see.

Voidpyre and Selene are the least doomed out of all the characters imo. They are set up for some tragic death for what they believe, and in a way they do. Yet somehow in the end it works out for them.

Tungsten and Solaria are middle of the road. Tungsten is only doomed because of Solaria being doomed. He has the chance HUNDREDS of times to escape. Ultimately he is too tolerant of the signs he is walking to his tomb with her. He sees it all far too late, realizing only hours before his death the scope of what leaf is doing. In the end he can’t even save Solaria from her fate.

Artemis and Magny are the most doomed characters. They are bound mutually at the hip. They are bound at the hand, and shoulder, and hip, and at the brain. They are AshDuo because when the lights dim and the play ends all that remains of them is ashes and dust. They set in motion the end of their world. They are the reason their world almost ends once and then ends so soon after. But ultimately it’s Magny who is doomed by fate. Artemis could leave multiple times and in the end Magny came back to her and pleaded and begged her to help her. And when they break apart after cutting their bonds with a rusty kitchen knife the world starts to end. Magny starts a war that kills tens of millions. Magny causes the Anemoi to feud over old wounds. Magny is the reason Asteria destroys the world. And in the end it’s for the right cause. Asteria is RIGHT.

On to the gods of each world.

I don’t know too much about the gods of A-P so I won’t speak on them.

In Gem Saga the gods are sparse but they are VERY important for the story/vibes/themes/EVERYTHING. First we have Bismuth. She is… well, not very well. She is a mad scientist, in the purest form. And in the end she saves the world. Twice. And Nyx almost ends the world. TMOP is the incarnation of manipulation and time. And she is defeated by Order and Chaos. Voidpyre and Selene.

In Anemoi the anemoi are the backdrop to how colossally Magny fucks up. And their own trashed. The 5th, God of Blood, struck down by the Godhunter. Zephyr, struck down by Magny. Not deserving of the fate that befell her. Zephyr died knowing his siblings would lash out in their anger. Boreas, complacent behind his bulwark of the mountains that hold his hope. He just wants to sleep. He knows the calm cold sleep better than the others. Eurus, the furious fire raging. The true successor of the blood god. The one who was the first to march. Snapping up land like a hungry dog. Angry like a hurt dog. And finally Notos. Notos the god of the seas and the storms. It is such a tragedy that the most curious of the 5, Notos, is the god of destruction. And Asteria, portrayed as the villain not the hero he deserves to be. He saves the universe for the small price of millions and millions of live. And Agape and Dahlia. All but forgotten among the Anemoi. But they are the rot below the surface. Agape, the god of growth and roots, god of sucking out the value out of the land. Dahlia, the god of poison and rot, the god of barren desolation. Leaving not ashes, but bones.

Finally there is Mors and Cee. Mors, the one cursed to sit in hell and rot away from the menial work. And Cee. The Choir. Oracle. Seer. Unable to speak and have others listen. Unable to speak, not sing. Doomed to have others not truely listen. And so fitting to be the eye of Nox into the Greek tragedy of Anemoi.

After all,

Buddy, I have been vibrating in place waiting for you to finish 18 so I could break this one out.

OMFG.

Every time I look at the chapter count vs the affection being shown by Jakayami I have to take a deep breath and remind myself that this is the first book in what promises to be a series.

I guessed it'd be a slow burn early on. And I knew it'd be a real slow burn. No making love instead of fucking by the 20k mark nonsense.

But fuck, I was not prepared.

Hayami gave Jakari a forehead kiss, A FOREHEAD KISS, not a peck on the lips or cheek or corner of mouth. A little smooch to the fucking forehead with all the implications of care and tenderness over-ruling simple desire that comes with it and I have been turning that scene over in my mind like a rotisserie chicken ever since.

And it's nuts because yes this is the first overt sign of affection but its not the first sign of affection, because these assholes have been flirting via subtext and ridiculous "for the good of the mission" justifications since day one. Mamachi decided to have a tough conversation with their much more overt romantic interest with Jakari for support and Jakari brought Hayami along. Hayami wanted to make sure her parents were safe and well and decided to bring Jakari along to meet them for it.

There was no real call for either of these events even if they had been told to partner up for work. If they wanted to build a bit of trust and rapport they could have played 20 questions and tried some trust falls. But they couldn't just do that because they Like each other and wanted to try and show something real and vulnerable about themselves to see how the other reacted.

The affection has been there. It was there when Hayami decided if no one else would look out for Jakari then she would. It was there when Jakari tried to keep Hayami off of the mission because of how dangerous it would be despite having no real justification to use.

It's hilarious because Jakari's actions and though processes even if they aren't conscious/direct read as caring much more deeply than Hayami's did when I was thinking back on all the layers of subtext, because Jakari has been so fully wrapped up in self hatred and need to focus on the mission that she hasn't/couldn't fully comprehend her feelings for Hayami, meanwhile Hayami has been able to go "Oh, I like this woman a lot and want to see if its possible to explore that once we've saved humanity" and then compartmentalise it and focus primarily on the job only showing affection when there is actually time for it and when she knows Jakari needs a reality check as to her monster status.

Jakayami are taking up So Much Brain Space while (by?) doing the absolute minimum and it's slowly driving me feral.

hiiii, long-time reader, first time asker 🙋🏻‍♀️. i recently finished tmop (which is beyond words and launched me into an x-men movie binge i can only indulge in during the weekends 🥲) and was left with a question re: the smoke aspect of L’s teleportation.

after H’s initial arrival at the mansion, there’s a spark of fire against the tree L doesn’t notice, and a while after i think it’s mentioned he never quite figured out what it means? if i remember correctly?

so i guess i’m wondering if this is something explained in the comics/nightcrawler’s story line, or if it was a point meant to be fleshed out separately, though i did spot somewhere you’re on a fanfic semi-retirement [*tear*], or if it’s just one of the things you meant you would’ve gone about differently had you not posted as a WIP….i may have been (lovingly) snooping through your previous asks 🫢 anyway, i have a lot of thoughts, and hope this makes sense, so much love 💛

I actually did this intentionally -- showed this moment of extinguishing of a physical object from the real world, as something that Louis doesn't actually see and understand himself -- and it's meant to be never quite explicitly explained in the text, but I'm happy to share a little bit about what it meant to me!!

************Spoilers for TMOP below:

So, part of my conception for Louis' powers in TMOP is that his teleportation and "phasing" are both actually a manipulation of the world on the subatomic level. All of the time when he executes on his mutation and uses his powers, he manipulates and then puts the world back together. Usually just his own body--but as seen in his manipulation over the doomsday devices, he can do it to external objects too. Louis knows this on some level. If he ever really lost control in the middle of using his powers, he could create a destructive force on par with a nuclear explosion--disrupting the world on the level of nuclear reactions. This is something he doesn't fully understand specifically becauseit would be so dangerous to experiment with it -- hence the general constant tension throughout his inner dialogue, where he thinks about how he can never lose control and he wonders what it means to have powers that transcend your own mind's ability to even see them. And this is also part of why Louis lied about his powers and won't let himself become an "A class" Xmen: he's terrified of the possibility of anyone else finding out just how much he's capable of. He knows it's riskier to actually be on the frontlines of battle, which has led to him constantly taking a second position in the mansion. This has also led to a really hurtful perception, perhaps especially from Harry who can feel the potential Louis has to be a great fighter--the perception that Louis is perhaps just a little cowardly. Louis fights this perception and the hurt from it throughout the whole fic, and Harry and Louis dance a lot in their relationship back and forth over trying to figure out what they're hiding from each other. Louis is hiding a lot, all the time, not just his feelings for Harry, but also the burden of how terrified Louis is of his own powers. Part of Louis' being there for Harry--because Harry is also terrified of his own powers--has been creating this persona where he pretends that he's less powerful and more chaotic than Harry. In fact, he is desperately trying to be in control, all the time. This reversal of the two of them (is Harry the "dutiful" hero or is Louis?) is a big part of the character journey for both of them and their relationship from a very guarded, secret pining into a mutually vulnerable, truthful love, with all of its messiness.

The scene where Harry comes to the mansion was a really poignant one for me to write. I saw it as a microcosm of a lot of the choices that Louis made, and the fact that he makes them alone (too alone, really), in the way of abused kids who feel they have to fix the world. So that tiny moment of smoke and vanishing (the curl of bark disappearing after Louis phases through it) invokes Louis' hidden power, the power that no one knows in all its terrifying potential -- he can take things out of existence entirely, if he wanted to. Obviously he doesn't set off a nuclear reaction! But when this piece of bark vanishes, it's just a subtle little hint towards how dramatically terrifying his powers could be, if he actually did use them in this way. Rather than just phasing through something and leaving it untouched, in a moment of deep emotion, he accidentally takes it out of existence. He never does fully use the destructive potential of his powers, in the fic. I have some thoughts about how a future Louis in this universe would grapple with this mutation, but for TMOP itself, I was happy enough to leave it where it was, with the balance at the end of the fic that Louis finds in trusting himself and trusting in the people he loves around him to see him as more than this weaponized possibility. As for that ask you mentioned, I actually think I do remember it - you're one of the few who ever send asks regarding the larger lore of the AWIL/TMOP world, so I remember being excited to answer a question.

With regard to the possibility of baby post-humans in the AU, that would be a rare thing, especially in the werebeast community. In all technicalities, being a werebeast is a non-hereditary "curse" (a curse in truth centuries ago, but the context has changes in modern times), so a person can be a werebeast but not pass it on to offspring. No baby were-kittens or were-puppies, I'm afraid. ^_^; John and Adrien are outliers in the community, both of them being so young when they were changed; most people transition in their twenties and thirties. If either Adrien or John had children in the future, the kids would be human or other depending on what the mother was. If anyone wanted a baby werebeast, the baby would have to be bitten and cursed, just like an adult, and then the adult would probably go to jail for biting a baby and changing its species. -_-

I hope that is able to quench your thirst for knowledge, even if I don't believe that is the answer you were hoping for. ^_^; Perhaps the new chapter will offer you more? So long as you stay sane until the end of your shift. Good luck!
