May 2019 @palettefulpacks
I loved this box and I can’t even believe that it took me this long to get to it. I have been very forgetful and all I can figure is that my Lupus Fog or Lupus Brain is just a bit too overpowered for me at this time. I have been out of work and legitimately scared to go back with how delicate my immune system is.
ANYWAY! I love these watercolor inks soo much. I’ve received them in an art box before so I knew that I’d have fun with this box. Now, the fine liners were okay but I’m not usually overly impressed with a lot of them. But these Princeton Velvetouch Brushes are some of my favorites for watercolor. Honestly, I just love using them with all paints.
One of the prompts was London so I found a few reference photos of Big Ben and put it in front of a colorful sky.
What’s in the box:
•Marabu Graphix Aqua Inks (8 colors)
•Marabu Graphix Black Fineliner - set of 4
•Princeton Artist Brush Co. Velvetouch (6 flat & 3 round)
•Strathmore 400 Series Mixed Media 6x8

(( I’m trying to spare people too much of her idiolect in “wall of text” type situations, so this is more like how her thoughts sound in her head to her. ))
A thought about them that they’d never share:She didn't seem to be that much of a jeweller after all... then again, it was Lux's claim, not hers. I suppose being Ara's sister gotta count in her favour, and I shouldn't be making assumptions....
First impression of them:An attractive lass - and maybe too much like me in some ways. Seems nice, but also seems suspicious and hard to get to know.
Favorite thing about them:Pretty quiet and unpretentious, but didn't seem to be that way by giving me a cold shoulder. Don't know her enough to say anything better yet.
Least favorite thing about them:Don't really know her enough to have anything un-favourite to say.Hopes for their future relationship:Be nice to get to know her better. I could use more non-noble friends. I wonder if'n she needs a job? I'm getting to the point where I could use a part-time assistant....

March 2019 @scrawlrbox
I seem to have quite a few boxes to catch up on. This one was definitely different and I had fun with the art, however, due to my Lupus I didn’t have the endurance or strength to blend colors the way I wanted. I eventually gave up on the piece for now but I may pick it back up in the future. I do wish the color pencils were softer but that is purely a selfish thing. The V ball pen was soo smooth and only had a little trouble gliding over the colored pencil layers that I had down. I did like the sketchbook and may even pass it to my daughter in case she wants to doodle in something. Unfortunately, my box was missing the Koh-l-Noor 8750 woodless pencil. A shame because I love most Woodless pencils.
What’s in the box:
•Staedtler Super Soft Coloured Pencils
•Derwent Blender & Burnisher Pencils
•Mobius + Ruppert Double Hole Sharpener
•Koh-I-Noor 8750 Progresso Woodless Pencil ( apparently I didn’t have this in my box and only now realized it)
•Pilot V Ball 0.7 Black
•YPO Jumbo Graphite Pencil
•West Design Sketch Book

June 2020 Scrawlrbox
So this @scrawlrbox art subscription was a little on the fence for me.
The #scrawlrchallenge was Spirit Animal but I will admit that I really don’t know what mine would be at this point in my life. HOWEVER, all my life I have had a love for any sort of gecko jewelry. So I decided to try my hand at a Leopard Gecko since I actually have one.
I generally do not do well with crayon/pastel type mediums but this one kind of worked better than I anticipated. The Derwent Inktense Blocks were pretty pigmented and made a decent wash as well. I didn’t really get much precision but I could kind of fix that with a little water and the brush. Now the Caran D’Ache Prismalo Pencil is, by far, the BEST watercolor pencil I have tried to date. It added the perfect outline and made an easy light sketch to start. The pencil worked incredibly well with water that I kind of fell in love. Now, I know everyone loves the Gelly Roll pens but I never managed to ever get one to work as well as have been claimed and this time wasn’t any different. Even once the painting was dry I just couldn’t get the white to lay down over the color very well. Now the paper actually held up well considering my artist tape ended up as a chew toy and I had nothing to hold the paper down. I definitely had no complaints.
In the Box:
*Derwent Inktense Blocks
*Caran D’Ache Prismalo Pencil
*Seawhite Synthetic Round Brush
*Gelly Roll 08 White
*SeaWhite 350gsm CP Watercolour Paper

This wasn't my favorite box. Not even by a long shot. You can tell by how rushed the art looks. I did like the set of EMOTT pens as well as the POSCA and brush pen on their own, just not as a set of supplies to dabble with. The colors that I got were very pretty but I just wasn’t as excited with this one.
What’s in the Box:
•Kuretake-ZIG Cambio Tambien Brush Pen*
•Uni-POSCA PCF-350 Brush Tip Paint Marker*
•Faber-Castell Polychromos Colored Pencil*
•Sakura Pigma Micron Pen
•L'Aquarelle Canson Héritage Hot Press Watercolor Paper Pad, 9"x12"
•Uni EMOTT Ever Fine Pens, Set of 5*

When a sub box forces you to learn better color mixing...
The paints were certainly thick bodied. I had fun just pushing the paint around the art board. Limiting myself to such a small canvas made it a little more freeing. I used a reference of my senior pomchi (16 years old and climbing). I struggled with the color mixing and varying the planes but I learned a few things for my next go ‘round.
What’s in the Box:
•Daler Rowney System 3 Heavy Body Acrylics
•Faber Castsell 9000 2B Pencil
•Pro Arte Series 60 PROLON
•Artboard (3 Pack)
•Palette Knife Card
•Artboard (3 Pack)

I was pleasently surprised by the Derwent Graphitint Paint Set. It took a little getting used to but I ended up really liking this set. The Langton 300gsm Watercolour Pad had a nice tooth/texture and it seemed to handle the excess water I decided to use on this piece.
I have never been one to enjoy painting scenery of any kind but for some reason l actually was a bit relaxed by this challenge.

September 2020 Paletteful Premier Pack @palettefulpacks
I love watercolor inks as it is so this was fun... except for having such small paper. It was certainly a challenge to draw and even paint anything this tiny. This is why this first painting is so blurry. I did love the pigments a lot.
This is the first of, hopefully, four prompts: History. I managed to finish it last week but forgot to upload it. It is my small attempt at a very common painting in a lot of Mexican households of The Legend of Popo and Itza: The Sleeping Woman. This is the version of the painting we had in our hone. I always loved it.
So without anything to make crisp lines, I decided to leave it as is. The paper in this one is the Yupo Aqua Hot Press.
In the Box:
•Daler-Rowney Aquafina Watercolor Ink
•Silverbrush Crystal Bright #4
•Legion Paper Aqua Mini Paper Pads - Cold Press and Hot Press
•Legion Pper Yupo Translucent Mini Paper Pad
•Round 10-Well Paint Tray

POSCA MARKERS! When I opened this box I was so pleasantly surprised to get POSCA Acrylic Markers, especially in these pretty colors. I love POSCA because they write so smooth, the colors are vibrant and decently opaque. Not to mention that you can use these babies on just about any surface and to help add to other mediums.
Scrawler Challenge: Character Creation
Just recently, my daughter’s hamsters passed away so I felt a little inspired to immortalize them for her.
Inside the Box:
• Uni POSCA Pens 5M
• Uni POSCA Pens 3M
• Faber-Castell Ecco Pigment Liner 0.6
• Staedtler Mars Lumograph Black 100B 2B
• Gecko Freestyle Pad A5 10 sheets

Prompt #1 : Morning Routine
I’m not a charcoal and pastel artist by any means. Sometimes it can be fun but most times I find myself unsatisfied with whatever work I have done. This was one of those times. So I kinda rushed this piece just to get it over with. More often than not, Paletteful delivers great supplies that end with me loving them for broadening my art. I wouldn’t be testing out half of these supplies if it wasn’t for my art subscription boxes.
However, I will say that I am so glad there was a Blackwing Pencil in this box because it’s the only thing I liked. I have wanted to test one out for a long time. I love it. It wrote so smooth and my Lupus ridden hands didn’t have to apply much pressure to get a nice line.
Inside the Box:
•Lyra Sketching set @lyra_feelcreative
•Lyra Graphite Crayon (9B)
•Lyra Hexagonal Crayón Holder
•Mars Lumograph (10B & 11B)
•Crescent Coldpress Illustration Board
•Lyra Monochrome Sharpener
•Paletteful Packs Blackwing Pencil @blackwing

I think I would have liked this a lot better If I had more paints to work with. The blue was beautiful and the teal Inktense pencil was pretty as well but I just couldn’t do much with it. So I decided to practice with the palette knives and attempting to make leaves and petals with the brush and knives. I certainly had a lot of fun playing with and mixing this paint with the gloss. I wasn’t all that impressed with the pen but that was because it didn’t work well on top of the paint. I just didn’t wait long enough for it to dry. It did write beautifully over this art board even with the texture.
Inside the Box:
•GOLDEN OPEN Slow-Drying Acrylic Paint in Phthalo Blue
•Derwent Inktense Colored Pencil in Teal Green
•KINGART™ Finesse Kolinsky Sable Synthetic Blend Brush, Filbert Size 6
•Kuretake-ZIG Hikkei Fude Pen
•Derwent Graphic Pencil, HB
•Fredrix Pro Series Belgian Linen Board, 8"x10"
•GOLDEN OPEN Acrylic Gel (Gloss)
•Art Alternatives Plastic Painting Knives, Set of 5

May 2020 @scrawlrbox
Charcoal, pastels and I never really had a great relationship. This months Scrawlrbox Challenge was ‘Carbon Heroes’ and, I cant really explain the way my brain works but the only thing that came to mind was Captain Planet. Who knows. Anyway, I couldn’t get Don Cheadle out of my head, some of y’all might recall his skits. My brain... I have no words to explain the way the cogs turn sometimes. I didn’t draw him but I did try to give him less obvious Caucasian features. Didn’t really work as well as I hoped. Halfway through I was just ready to get this piece over with.
The eco living q-tips weren’t very ideal for blending anything for me. I felt like I wasn’t doing anything. It picked up the charcoal and streaked a lot of the drawing more than it blended.
Some of the supplies came broken and essentially unusable but it was mostly the willow sticks. The charcoal was broken but I did the best I could with it. I was pleasantly surprised by the double sided Faber-Castell Perfection Eraser Pencil.
In the Box:
* Coates Willow Charcoal Sticks
* Seawhite Black Compressed Charcoal Block
* Koh-I-Noor Gioconda Charcoal Pencil
* Lyra Rembrandt Chalk Pencils
* Lyra Rembrandt Splender Pencil
* Winsor & Newton Medium Kneaded Putty Eraser
* Faber Castell Perfection Eraser Pencil
* KUM Magnesium Double Hole Pencil Sharpener
* PaintOn Grey A5 Pad (8 Sheets)

These were actually some fun markers. My favorite one was the Molotow Liquid Chrome. The Milan pencil was very comfortable to grip with the triangular shape and the eraser erased well. The paper was smooth and thick enough that there was no bleed through. It seemed to hold up well under some layering of ink on some places. The challenge was Paper Tiger so here is my stylized version of a tiger.
Inside the Box:
* Pilot Pintor Marker
* Molotow Liquid Chrome
* Milan Graphite Pencil
* Milan 430 Eraser
* Canaletto Liscio 125gsm Paper

Artsnacks July 2020 ( @artsnacksblog )
This box was pretty satisfying. I always wanted to try these particular pan watercolors but they are just a bit on the pricey side for me right now so I was excited to see two Kuretake-ZIG Gansai Tambi watercolor pans. The water color stick by Daniel Smith was nice and smooth and blended really well with a bit of water. I liked adding a few steaks here and there for a bit of a scribbly feel to the watercolor. I love Eeyore and these colors just reminded me of him. Now this sketchbook is great! I like that you can pull a page out to work on outside the book and then work it back into the book to stay once it’s dry. Or you can tear it out for good with the perforated edge. I am a huge fan of Grumbacher watercolor paper so I wasn’t too surprised to see that I liked this mixed media paper also. The Plunchester fine liner was decent enough but it took a few attempts when going over some of the watercolor even when it was mostly dry. It probably needs to be completely dry for it to have a smoother line at one go. I just need to practice using the Molotow GRAFX masking marker a bit more but I love the idea behind it.
What’s in the Artsnacks box:
*Kuretake-ZIG Gansai Tambi Watercolor Pans
*Kuretake-ZIG BrushH2O Petit Water Brush
*Plumchester P8 fineliner
* Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolor Stick
What’s in the Artsnacks Plus Box:
*Grumbacher Hidden Wire Mixed Media Sketchbook
*Molotow GRAFX ART masking Liquid Pump Marker

May 2020 Paletteful Premiere Packs @palettefulpacks
Still playing a bit of catch up. Unfortunately, I noticed that I was missing the mop brush when I finally opened it a few days ago. So I just used the brush that came with the Travel Set. I will say that I have used a brush like this before and I absolutely HATE it. It constantly fell apart, fell in my water, fell on the floor and even fell on my painting a few times. I had fun with the watercolors, though. It’s one of my favorite mediums. These mixed well and had decent pigment. I mostly just kind of played around with this prompt so I hope you like it. I will try to do one or two more prompts in the near future.
Prompt #1: Your Own Monster Creation (you also need to name it) (I didn’t name it)
Inside the Box:
•Van Gogh Water Color Pocket Box Basic Colors with 12 Colors in Half Pans
•Strathmore 400 Series Watercolor Paper Pad - 5.5 x 8.5 in.
•Strathmore Watercolor Postcards
•Silver Brush Wee Mop 3/8 in (didn’t receive)

I thought I would take a break in art posts to show you my art companion. This is Sweet Pea, my 16 year old Pom/chi. In the last year she has become more clingy. She’s not really a lap dog but she does like to be near people. However, lately, she has become insistent that she be in my lap more and more. We think that part of the reason is because she has lost her hearing. She still has all the spunk of a puppy and rules the house like the alpha female she is. She goes on just about every car ride and will run out of the house just to make sure of it. Hope this made you smile! #tmsillustrations #seniordog #pomeranian #pomchi #seniordogsofinstagram https://www.instagram.com/p/CFHu8mEjw8B/?igshid=l9k0lllcxmtg
