I think the worst part of having fic ideas in the brain is I actually have to go write it myself. Like why can’t I just stare at a blank document and the poetic words in my brain suddenly transcribe themselves onto the page?? Why do I have to write??

adhd ramble time!!!

so i'm researching significant films from queer history right, bc i already have an interest in that and also bc of this queer media archive nick and i are working on (see my pinned post)

anyways i found the silent film Salomé (1922), which stars Alla Nazimova (generally went by just Nazimova), a Russian Jewish sapphic silent film star. several of the female characters are played by men in drag and there were supposedly several gay cast members but yk. altogether the film is not extremely canonically queer but is definitely one of those queercoded fun experimental things from the silent era. it's impressive though, and a very expensive and cool-looking production (watch here)

so i decided to research nazimova who as it turns out was in a lavender marriage for a while and had several relationships with women. her most steady girlfriend was Glesca Marshall, another actress, who lived with her in the hotel nazimova established and then sold off, the legendary Garden of Allah Hotel. marshall was later buried with another girlfriend, Emily Woodruff. interestingly, nazimova's goddaughter was Nancy Davis, who would eventually marry Ronald Reagan. yeah.

another of nazimova's girlfriends was the surrealist/magical realist painter Bridget Bate Tichenor, who was at one point the editor of Vogue, was influenced by and in turn influenced several huge names in the surrealist movement, and. wow. check out her paintings!!! that's so cool!!!

Domestic life

And at the end of every meeting, we speak. We figure out what time will work next best.

You make the most mundane of tasks worth living. You make them interesting, make me feel happy to do them.

You turn simple three tender combos with an extra toast into the most memorable of traditions.

You make buying a bit of cheese at the grocery store, one of the most fulfilling things that I could ask for.

While some people’s bread and butter is a romantic candlelit dinner, and a performance to accompany, mine is a craft store and our show, on the couch together. And when you go to make popcorn later, in that telephone box red microwave, I revel in how easily I can come up behind you and hold you. How natural it is for you to turn around and sway with me to the sounds of our own salty symphony.

Doing the most basic things with you, that’s my favorite part of loving you. Because those “basic” things don’t feel as plain anymore.

Being a silly enjoyer of my oc x canon, and also just always someone who expresses love of a media that way, I've never REALLY been one to ship canon characters with other canon characters all too often. I never hate them! It's more of just I see em and I nod like "Oh okay!" Maybe give it a like cause the art and the way they present the dynamic is fun but I've never been crazy (/pos) over canon character ships.

idky i’ve been having trouble with shifting through lucid dreaming,, like it’s so easy

my lucid dreams have been hella busy here lately, and it’s hard to focus when the dream people keep interrupting me but like,,, i can literally just make them go away for a second. It’s so funny bc i’m always going on about “u literally have control of your dreams !! u can do anything you’re the one in control here !!” but never once just tried to take control of my dreams, i always did it the hard way and tried running off somewhere quiet instead.

i also wanna try meditating next time i’m lucid, i feel like that would help a lot

i'm now the proud owner of the new larousse encyclopedia of mythology im soooo excited waugh this book is iconic

and the intro is by robert graves, whose work i've been sort of following/familiar with for a couple years (especially his folklore/mythology stuff and translations)!!! definitely a big deal in the folklore/mythology field

also today i learned: he's bisexual (and had like. some absurd polyamorous stuff going on too)

so bonus points i guess (more info at wikipedia)

anyways WAHOO i got it for a pretty good price at a used book store yesterday and im super excited to read it!!!! ofc it's from a pretty western lens but it'll be very interesting for sure yayayyaya

also, by the way, the encyclopedia is available on internet archive. it's got a ton of information on various stories, figures, and themes from various mythological traditions, written 1968
