WIP game - “empty”?

This continued to the point that Strickler was overly surrounded by these burattini. Like a thick hangman’s forrest awaking and showing the many lives it hung on its branches. Thickening with outstretched arms to the point of everything turning utterly dark. 

Strickler awoke like his essence was pure sludge. His whole body ached, and was cold, and the dampness of the air soaked through his clothes. 

His curled hand twitched. The sort of twitch that expected another hand wouldn’t be too far away. But he was alone, and his hand was empty. The binding spell was gone, and with it any and all lingering trace Barbara had. 

Strickler wanted to curl into himself, and contemplate on these things. And there was indeed much to think on. After all after so long being bound to Barbara he felt...he felt...he didn’t know what he felt. 

Something was clanging on his cage. But his mind felt like mire slowly being poured through his ear. He felt alone, mortified, exhausted, guilt ridden- 

“Only an impure would be stupid enough to raise Angor Rot.” called up a voice.

-and angry.

Barbara’s laughter rang as crisp as a morning bell, and the laughter continued as she tenderly guided Walter’s face closer to hers to plant a kiss on his eyelid, and then blow a raspberry into his foamy shaving cream cheeks. Jim placed a hand on the phone screen, gently looking into his mom’s smiling face. 

Their laughter and giggling growing in the phone’s speakers, mixed with the hum of the hospitals overhead lights, as Jim looked away to contemplate his mom’s resting form. And how Barbara, despite resting, occasionally twitched her brow, as if worry seized her even in rest.

With a loud thud the shelves near the window shook, some tomes falling harshly, quickly followed by the sound of Vaorz roaring outside. 

Then, came a distant cry, “Trollhunter! Heeelp!!”

Jim’s head turned to the doorway, fists bawling into fists. He could no longer sit and listen to Vendel’s lecture. He charged, Toby and Claire rushing after him.

There wasn’t a crowed loudly arguing outside as they had thought. No, to Jim’s dismay, there was a fight. A full out brawl at the back of a long parade of trolls. And at the top of the procession was Strickler being dangled from his ankle.

Walter traced his finger over the spines, some in leather, some bound with harsh wires, others in a worn fabric with embossed letters. It was a wonderful library, truly a marvelous collection he couldn’t bring himself to be annoyed at even if he tried. And at the sound of Blinky, and his attempts at nonchalantly hovering while leafing two different books, Strickler certainly tried to feel annoyed. But the old changeling simply couldn’t. 

“I must say Galadrigal, I’m impressed.” 

“Hmm?” went Blinky in an attempt to sound like he hand’t been tentatively watching, “Oh! Well! It’s no Alexandria, but I am proud of the old hoard.” he tapped a book with added affection.

Strickler smiled, “Here, here.” and return to the book shelves, only to frown as he spotted the author’s name. Curiosity getting the better of him, Strickler slowly pulled out the old book.

“Ah! One of my brother’s works! Dictatious Galadrigal.” beamed Blinky resting the books he had on hand all together. “Many of my collection is actually his. Including a multitude of his works, but since his passing..well..”

“Yes...” swallowed Strickler, “I see..”
