Todd Anderson loves Amado Nervo’s poetry. He found The Immovable Loved One in a second hand bookshop. He said it was kind of like a miracle because it helped him find some peace when he was still in pain about Neil’s lost. He related to Nervo’s grief and cried with almost every single one of the poems.

The verses spoke to him and, somehow, little by little, the tears washed the pain away. It was like he was dropping the whole sorrow through his eyes.

Nervo saved him, so he also wanted to help and support someone during their healing process, so he wrote every single night until he completed his first poetry collection. He dedicated “to every soul dealing with grief”. And in the acknowledgements he mentioned Nervo, Mr. Keating, every member of the Dead Poets Society and Neil “You changed me, you inspired me with your passion for acting, so I hope you feel proud about me and that you still taking care of me from wherever you are”.

dps headcannons when (some of) the poets are ill

todd

clingy. so motherfucking clingy

"neilllll, come cuddle me :( please"

refuses to leave his bed

still uses drinkable medicine bc he is scared of tablets

very emotional. will cry very easily because he is just overstimulated and tired

takes a day to recover even after the illness passes

asks the poets to bring him all the homework if he misses class because he is scared of falling behind (neil takes the english and pe notes, meeks takes the math and latin notes, cameron takes all else)

neil ends up staying up late with todd to help him finish the homework and explain anything that might have been left out of the notes

neil

suffers from hayfever very badly

tries to hide whenever he feels ill but one of the poets notice and put him back in bed

"im fine guys i promi- *sneeze* i'm not ill *coughs violently*"

often gets ill after taking care of another poet when they were ill (most likely todd)

tries his hardest to go to classes and keating sends his ass back to the dormitory

"mr perry i admire the dedication, but please go to your dorm before you turn my classroom into a walking infection."

charlie

acts like his life is about to end

"mr nolan im DYING. have some sympathy on a poor man."

refuses to go to any class but keating's even if it is the smallest illness ever

"trig? i can't do trig, LOOK AT ME."

cameron still brings him the day's notes and charlie appreicates it even if he doesn't say so

secretly looks over them when cameron has fallen asleep

absolutely despises getting ill & takes all the measures he can to avoid it

vitamin tablets, boosters, vaccines, the whole shabang

refuses to let it bother him unless he is physically bedbound

he will have the most raging temperature, splitting headace and limp everywhere but god help him if he does not get to 4th period chemistry on time

he prides himself on having a very good attendance

the poets can tell when he is ill most of the time bc his face gets very ashen and his freckles pop a lot more noticeably

thinks he has mastered the art of not appearing sick

cameron, with red eyes and pale cheeks, grimacing as he shuffles up to his friends: "hi guys *wince* how are you? *sniffle*."

the poets all know he is bullshitting but they know he hates getting called out more so they don't make a note of it but they all be a lot more accommodating

charlie eases up on the teasing for the day

one day neil comes in his dorm to find todd asleep - which in itself isnt unusual - not common - todd typically waits until neil’s asleep before going to sleep (like how he waits for all the boys to be done with showering before showering himself - or how he sometimes shows up earlier than them) todds a guy who likes his more vulnerable moments to be away from prying eyes - though now that todd has been warming up to neil sometimes neil will catch him taking naps and todd no longer forces himself to be the last one asleep even if he’s dead tired

neil doesnt quite get it exactly but he does get that todd trusts him now

it makes him feel warm

anyway so the sight of todd fast asleep isnt all that unusual

what is unusual is that todd’s not asleep on his bed - he’s curled up on top of neil’s blankets - on neil’s bed

if neil thinks back to earlier, todd did look a little tired so he probably just stumbled in and fell on the first vahuely comfortable surface he felt

neil knows it and understands it and he /should/ brush it off

but somehow the image of todd on his pillow, his blanket, his bed, sets a burst of warmth throughout his body

something which also isn’t unusual in relation to todd

neil’s felt the warmth of joy when todd finally stopped freaking out when they talked (and started contributing to the conversation willingly !!)

he remembers the warmth on his hand when they shook hands back when they met even now

he felt an intense, almost uncomfortable, warmth - no, heat build up inside him when todd had shed his usual uncomfortable demeanor to instead sport a determined look as they started soccer practice (and every soccer practice since then) and the ridiculously short shorts that neil hadnt really ever dwelled on before didnt help neil one bit

the point was that neil was used to warm feelings with todd

but this one was different

it wasnt flavored in hopeful joy, or interest, or arousal

it was nice and comfortable and oh i want him to share my space - i want to wake up with him - i want him to come to me - to seek out things at remind him of me when he’s tired and other similar overlapping thoughts that had a strong sense of domesticity buried into them

neil wonders what it would be like if todd had willing chosen to come into neil’s space

he hopes he’ll find out one day

A little headcanon me and my friend thought of a while ago because it's so silly and I need to share it

One night Todd and Neil snuck out and they climbed a tree because they wanted to feel like they were on top of the world. They spent the night talking and looking at the stars, loudly whispering and laughing, sharing poetry and deep thoughts. When they finally decide it was time to head back to their room, Neil turns to Todd and says

"is this a bad time to tell you I'm scared of heights?"

He is in fact not scared of heights, he just wanted an excuse to hold Todd's hand.

DPS headcanons

charlie can't bake for shit, like he literally can't even make a box cake. he always screws something up

on the other hand, pitts is an amazing baker. the dude will make a whole damn cake from scratch like it was no big deal

anderperry = adhd and autism duo. you pick who is who

cameron is a history buff. i saw something saying he'd love top gun and i totally agree. that kid is a NERD

todd's a cat person

neil likes both. whatever makes todd happy makes him happy

charlie's a lightweight, unlike todd who (as we know) can down whiskey like nothing

considering DPS is set in 1959, meeks and pitts definitely were marvel and/or dc comics nerds. maybe one liked marvel and one liked dc, and they constantly fought about which was better. or they both like one franchise and trash talked the other

the rooftop radio dance party was totally not meeks and pitts' only dance party. they've had many

all the poets have at least been to charlie's huge house once and done stupid shit in his pool. somebody definitely belly-flopped off the diving board, really regretted it, and now it's an inside joke between all of them (probably be Knox or Pitts, if i'm honest.)

meeks likes plants. he's totally got a few small plants in his and pitts's dorm. totally has a tiny succulent named after some superhero (modern!au he'd so name it something dumb like megatron)

if transformers had come out when the poets were kids, pitts so would've been a transformers kid

charlie totally has converse (specifically red ones) and draws on the rubber parts (this is inspired from a comment on my post where i drew on my vans)

in relation to the last one, he's totally written carpe diem on the shoes. and a lighting bolt

modern!au knox would play fortnight 24/7 and never shut up about it

modern!au todd and neil have a shared farm on stardew valley. and a minecraft house

scratch that, all the poets have a minecraft server they all play on. charlie's house looks like ass while todd and meeks have a library that looks better than most modern architecture

growing up, meeks would sit in the library for hours skimming through the encyclopedias until he found anything that caught his eye. he'd be there form when the library opened to until it closed. the librarian eventually caught on to his schedule and started bringing him little sandwiches and chips and a juice, and always brought him something in the morning, like a granola bar.

maybe that's how pitts and meeks met. pitts was looking for cool like sci-fi novels and saw meeks sitting all by himself with a giant pile of encyclopedias next to him. pitts picked out a cool book and sat by him, the two never saying a word. this continued for a few weeks until one of the two worked up the courage to introduce themself. they became fast friends.

cameron over prepares. always has bandaids on him. mostly because charlie's constantly getting hurt

anyways, i could ramble for days! lmk if you like stuff like this and i can post some more headcanons and stuff

todd has a nice back. not overly muscly but it's there, like that athletic body type.

no one knows this until one day, for some sports, todd is taking off his hoodie, facing away from the poets, when the shirt underneath does that thing and sticks to the hoodie. and exposes his back, which is a nice sight.

it's like freckled in the same specks he has on his nose, and surprisingly, a long scar dragging from his hip and below (he doesn't talk about it until years later when he tells them at like 4am, that jeff "accidentally" pushed him down the stairs when they were like 8 and he landed on a glass vase)

neil is very very flustered for the rest of the day.
