LOVE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR

“Bakugo…?” comes a rasped murmur. Katsuki exhales harshly, pinching the bridge of his nose and willing the blood in his body to recede back to his brain. “Ah. Did I booty call you?”
Katsuki laughs, a half hysterical and awkward sound that sawed at his throat. He scrubs a hand over his face, “It’s called a butt dial, halfie. You butt dialed me”.
(shouto comes down with a case of the quirk flu. they are both selfish, in their own ways).

all these little things
Relationship: TodoBaku
Tags: Established relationship, Character Study, Fluff, Characters are Pro Heroes
“Ugh. Bakugou is such an ass.” Tokage said, collapsing down on the couch in the agency common area. She didn’t work at Endeavor Agency, but she was currently part of a joint mission, leading her to spending a fair deal of time in the office anyway. “Honestly, Todoroki-kun. I don’t know how you like him.”
Todoroki thought about that for a moment. It’s true, Bakugou was harsh, abrasive. Loud. Rude. Aggressive. All seemingly negative traits. But somehow the blonde made them strengths. Todoroki himself wasn’t the sweetest or friendliest out there, people just tended to overlook it because he was quiet about it. Bakugou’s brand of jackassery was harder to ignore.
But even the supposed jackassery was a result of improper observation. Bakugou was ten times the man Todoroki could ever be. Bakugou was a million times nicer, and more observant. More sacrificial and more caring. He just went about it in ways that were hard to understand.
Bakugou was the type to hear you mention your favorite flavor of Boba tea once and order it for you every time without you needing to ask. In the same situation, Todoroki would have been oblivious to the knowledge and forgotten all about your preferences. There were a few exceptions to this, Bakugou being one of them. Shouto knew exactly what the blonde wanted from the Ramen shop next door, how he preferred his coffee (double shot, one cream, no sugar), and what flavor of ice cream he wanted if he was allowing himself to indulge (strawberry). Midoriya and Momo were probably the only other people Todoroki could remember the preferences of if asked.
Bakugou was a unique brand of self-sacrificial, where he’d put his neck out for anyone, hero-related or not, because he knew he was stronger than the opponent and could take anything thrown at him. Most heroes were self-sacrificing in a martyr way. A “better me than them” way. Bakugou was self-sacrificial in a “you won’t be getting either of us” way. It was something that inspired Todoroki to act in multiple scenarios, aiming to be the same despite continuing falling short on the self confidence front.
Todoroki also knew Bakugou’s harsh words were hard to understand unless you damn near had a doctorate in Bakugou-nese. The blonde might say “get out of my way, extras.” But what he usually meant was “you can count on me. I’ve got this.” People always misunderstood his harsh words. This one Todoroki could understand though, because for a while he didn’t get it either. In fact, the only reason he ever figured it out was thanks to Midoriya, who had long since become fluent in the language and seemed to get some sort of entertainment out of poking the bear to further provoke him in his own native tongue. Todoroki had spent hours of his life watching the two of them egg each other on and it never got less entertaining. He may have even picked up a few tricks from Midoriya to poke the bear himself.
Bakugou appeared to be rash and impatient, running head first into fights without thinking first. But that wasn’t true at all. Honestly, that was more a testament to just how fast the blonde was. While most people were a few steps behind still formulating plans, Bakugou already had several strategies in mind and a back up plan or two to boot. He rushes in confident in his ability to win and his opponents don’t stand a chance without time to plan a counterattack.
But these were all things anyone could see if they looked a little closer. What they didn’t see was the nights Bakugou would stay up for hours, crying or panicked about a less ideal outcome or being outmatched in a fight. They didn’t see the way his confidence did a complete 180 outside of battle, as the blonde compared himself to anyone and everyone else. Especially Todoroki. Todoroki knew he was pretty damn good, but as mentioned before, he also acknowledged his own shortcomings. Todoroki was selfish and rash, rude and often underestimated opponents and teammates alike. He was working on all that, of course, but if anyone were to ask him, right now he’d say Bakugou was a far better hero and definitely en route to reach number one before him. Bakugou didn’t agree. Bakugou would see only Todoroki’s successes and deem himself a failure. Well, in a way. He also saw Todoroki’s failures and offered assistance to improve on future attempts, but for some reason the blonde forgot about those instances when feeling particularly inferior to his partner. Todoroki sure as hell wasn’t giving up, nor was he content to simply accept losing to the blonde, but he couldn’t delude himself into thinking they were on the same level. Todoroki had some serious improving to do if he wanted to win.
Bakugou was kind. Caring. Affectionate. Not so much in the physical sense, naturally. But Todoroki saw it in the way he’d walk slower if guiding the young or elderly somewhere. He saw it in the way he intently listened to the discussions of their peers while pretending not to be involved in the conversation. He saw it in the way Bakugou would chuck a water bottle at his friends’ faces after an intense fight. He witnessed it when their schedules conflicted, and Bakugou would be as quiet as possible to avoid waking Todoroki, oblivious to the fact that Todoroki’s own trauma made it impossible to sleep if he so much as felt the sheets shift. (That, at least, had gotten a little better since he’d started seeing the explosive blonde. He got a comfort out of knowing anyone who dared to fuck with them in their bed would be dying in a very painful manner). Bakugou could be in the midst of an intense battle, focused on his opponent and protecting civilians at the same time and still manage to shoot off an explosion to stop larger debris from hitting Todoroki off guard. And the blonde’s sixth sense for diet seemed to always just know if Todoroki had opted for junk food instead of a proper meal.
So, yeah. Maybe Bakugou was an ass if you only looked from 15 feet away. But one of the shortcomings Todoroki failed to address earlier was his unwillingness to share. Quite frankly, he didn’t care how misconstrued the others’ perception of Bakugou was. It meant Todoroki got to keep all the more intimate knowledge to himself.
“I don’t like him,” he finally responded, not looking up from the book he was reading. “I love him.”

Caught In The Act (My Hero Academia)
Tumblr media
Tada! I'm back with another TodoBaku fic! :D It's been a hot minute since I've really written for them as a couple, and plus- let's be real; lee!Bakugou is a treasure! This is a gift for a friend (you know who you are :3)- I hope y'all like it!
Summary: Todoroki makes a surprising discovery about his boyfriend- much to Bakugou's embarrassment.
Cloud 9 (Taglist Peeps):
@thatbigbisexual29 @duckymcdoorknob @baby-tickles2022 @cupcake-spice13 @backy-san @nutzgunray-lvt @sarahmaystock5578 @rachi-roo @mochigiggle @intheticklecloset (I know you're not on my taglist but girl it's TodoBaku- I HAD to tag you akrejakjrejrjk :D) @chibisstuff
It was a secret Bakugou planned on carrying to the grave.
“Geahhahahahaha! K-Kihihihirshima!” Denki squealed, feet kicking and hands slapping as the redhead tickled him relentlessly. “Stahahhahhaap!”
“Aww, what’s the matter? I thought you could handle it!” Kirishima teased, looking over his shoulder at Bakugou with twinkling eyes. “Get in here, Baku-bro! Help me take out sparky!”
“Tch, I’ll pass.” He waved them off, shaking his head at the sight. He hoped his nonchalance covered the twitchiness in his muscles. Before Kirishima could ask more, Mina had already bounced over, declaring war as she threw herself into the fray.
“Dumbasses.” Bakuogou rolled his eyes with affection as he walked back to his room, hand already drifting to his phone. By the time he got back there, his heartbeat was blasting in his ears, cheeks warm as he pressed a hand against his chest- willing it to calm.
God…I wish that was me.
Shaking his head, he tapped away at his phone, flopping back into his bedsheets as he scrolled through his bookmarked fanfics, settling in. “This will have to do.”
~~~
Bakugou…liked tickling.
There, he said it!
Well…thought it anyway.
He didn’t know why the childish act made his heart race so much, or why the sight and sound of it filled him with such joy; it just kinda did. He had plenty of tickle fights growing up- well; at least until his quirk kicked in. Admiration aside, not many people were willing to go toe to toe with him when his hands sparked out of control during a laughing fit.
Even in the dorms tickle fights reigned on. Kirishima was a walking wall of defense with a playful side to back; he and Denki made it their personal mission to tickle everyone at least once a week. They’d probably get him more if he didn’t gripe and groan so much during it.
The idea of asking for it… dear god, the idea of telling them…
He could already picture Midoriya rambling about the various reasons and factors about it as if it were a quirk- the idea both mortifying and weirdly hilarious. It wasn’t the wildest thing anyone’s revealed about themselves; not after Mineta’s google search history got leaked.
Still, the idea of anyone finding out about it made his blood turn cold and the back of his neck sweat. He had to be extra careful! No crumb trails allowed!
He could do that.
Sure- easy. ~~~
“Bakugou, can I borrow..” Todoroki paused at the blonde’s dorm room upon finding the blonde curled up in bed, scrolling on his phone with his headphones in.. It was after breakfast and on a weekend, so it wasn’t that surprising to find him here. Shrugging, he quietly shut the door as he entered, mumbling a soft “sorry for the intrusion.”
There it was on the chair- a large soft sweatshirt Todoroki meant to ask for. He gathered it up, smiling at the feel of the fabric against his skin. He didn’t know what it was made of, but it must have been fancy. The perks of parents in the fashion industry.
Feeling bold, he pressed it against his face, snuggling.
“Heh.” Startled, Todoroki twisted, hiding the sweater behind him with bright red cheeks. “Sorry I-”
But Bakuogu wasn’t looking at him. Instead, he was still on his phone, looking at what looked to be a picture. Curiosity won out as Todoroki creeped closer, observing.
The image was a piece of fanart- two characters engaged in what looked to be a duel. One guy- white hair and dressed semi formally with black gloves- was hovering over the other, his hands curled into his sides. His companion- another man pale as a ghost dressed in all black, looked like he was in mild pain, struggling to push him away as his cheeks flushed pink. There were some strange red things sticking out of his back, but Todorok’s seen wilder quirks.
Bakugou scrolled. Another picture- this time a redhead boy covering his face and smiling while two other boys- a black haired one with bright blue eyes and a brunette with a bob cut and impish grin- squeezed his knees. At that, Bakugou huffed a laugh, hitting the little red heart as he carried on scrolling.
“...” Todoroki blinked. Bakugou was looking at fanart?
A screen of text- it looked to be a story. Todoroki leaned in to read a few words.
“Ahehehehahha! Cohoohohme on, you jehehehehrk! Gehehet oohohoff me!” Abe snorted around his laughter, shoving at Tajima’s shoulders as his waist was prodded at. “Mihiihiashi, hehehheelp!”
“H-Huh?” The shy boy yelped, startled at the cry.
“Yeah, Mihashi!! Come over here and help me tickle Abe!” Tajima wagged his brows, one hand tickling while the other gestured him over. “Come on, don’t be shy~”
Mihashi-
But Todoroki never did find out what this “Mihashi” guy did, for the next thing he knew he was grabbed and pinned, all the air in his body knocked out of him as his back slammed into the wood floor.
“Just who the hell do you think you are, you damn bastard?!” Bakugou had his hand pointed in his face, sparks popping. “Think you can sneak in here and-”
“Bakugou! It’s me!” Todoroki cried. The sparks died instantly, hand moving to reveal a shocked Bakugou’s face. “Erm…hey?”
“I-Icyhot? What- How-When-” Bakugou gaped like a fish, looking from the door to the trapped hero beneath him and back. His body eased upon realizing he was not under attack by a villain. “Why are you-”
“Wanted to borrow your sweater.” Todoroki nodded to the discarded garment. “Erm…so uh…who’s Mihashi?”
Bad move- bad, bad move. The eased expression faded to one of shock, then dread, then mortification as Bakugou seemed to forget how to breathe. “You saw…” He gaped out, looking torn between running and raging.
“I…erm, yeah.” Todoroki confessed, knowing lying would make it worse.
Bakugou stared down at him, very still. For a moment, Todoroki was sure he was gonna explode- both literally and verbally.
But then the weight upon him was gone. When he sat up by the bed, Bakugou was a mound of blankets in the center. “Erm…Bakugou?”
“Fuck off, Icy Hot!” Oh- he was mad. No longer scary Endeavor mad but Bakugou mad. Todoroki felt himself breathe as he blinked at the mound. “Leave me alone.”
“Do you really want me to go?” Todoroki asked. When no answer came, he dared to climb into the bed. “I’ll go if you tell me to.” Again, no answer. After a moment, Todoroki cleared his throat. “You know you can talk to me about this, right?”
“There’s nothing to talk about!” The blankets snapped, shifting as Bakugou curled up more into himself. “Just go on ahead and tell everyone what you saw! I don’t care anymore!”
“...Why would I do that?” Todoroki asked, brows furrowing. “You know I’d never do that to you.” No further argument came, so Todoroki carried on, scooting closer to him on the bed until his hip was against the blankets. “You don’t have to talk about it if you’re not ready, but I don’t think less of you for liking that sort of thing.”
“I’m a freak.” It was so quiet- yet the crack it left on Todoroki’s heart was massive.
“No you are not. You’re the farthest thing from a freak.” Todoroki reassured, petting the mound beside him. “You’re not a freak for liking fanfiction-”
“That’s not it!” Bakugou grumped as he turned over, peeking out from the blankets some. “That’s not…the part I’m talking about.”
“Was it the fanart? Cause I thought it was nicely done.”
Bakugou rolled his eyes, sinking back into the blanket. “I can’t tell if you’re being intentionally dense to help me or you mean it.” Flushed, Bakugou hid further in the blankets until he was no longer visible. “It’s..the tickling part. I like it.”
“....huh.” Todoroki hummed.
“What the hell does that mean?” Bakugou snapped, resurfacing to glare. Todoroki held up his hands in surrender.
“Nothing bad. I’m just not all that surprised?” When Bakugou kept glaring, Todoroki went on. “We’ve been dating for a few months now- you don’t think I notice those little things about you? How you get so squirmy when a tickle scene happens in a show, or how you try to act cool when our classmates declare war on eachother?”
“The fuck-”
“The point is- I kinda knew already. And it’s not something to be embarrassed about.” Todoroki reassured, pushing past some of Bakugou’s blanket cocoon so he could brush back his messy hair. “If anything, I think it’s cute.”
“C-Cute? I’m not fucking cute, Icy-Hot! I’m a-” Bakugou went to argue but was soon cut off by Todoroki flopping ontop of him, pinning him gently to the bed as he pushed past the remaining layers of his blanket. “What are you do-HMMPH!”
“Come on- you know you want to laugh.” Todoroki teased gently as he scratched his nails along Bakugou’s sides, making the blonde squirm with repressed giggles. “Is this why you were looking at all those pictures? You were craving tickles, huh?”
“Sh-Shut the fuuhuhck up!” The chuckles won out. Bakugou slapped at his boyfriend’s shoulders as he giggled up a storm, semi-trapped in the blanket. “Doohoohn’t taahhahalk like thahahahat!”
“Do you prefer if I talk like this?” Todoroki leaned in so he was right next to Bakugou’s ear, fingers working up and down his ribs. “Tickle tickle tickle tickle tickle~”
“FUHUHUHU!” The blonde arched with a cackle, flailing at both the ticklish feeling and the dreaded teasing. “IHIHIIHCY HOOOHOHOHOT!”
“Yehehehes?” Todoroki mocked playfully, kissing Bakugou’s red cheek before leaning back. “Wow, look at you smiling like that. I’m starting to get why you like this kinda thing.”
Bakugou could barely get out any words, too giggly for his own good. It only got worse when Todoroki found that terrible spot along his upper ribs, making his arms shoot down like rockets. “TOHOOHOHOHODOROHOHOOHOKI!”
“Yes?”
“STAHHAHAHAHP!”
“Hmm…okay.” Todoroki did just that, finally bringing his game to an end as Bakugou gasped for air. “Too much fun for one day?”
“Fuuhuuhck ohohohoff.” Bakugou rolled his eyes, hugging his torso protectively as he sank further in the bed. “You suuhuhck!”
“You love me.” Bastard!
“I do…unfortunately.” Bakugou snickered, laughing once more when his waist got pinched. “Ohoohkay okay I love you!”
“That’s what I thought I heard.” Todoroki snickered as he flopped down beside him, pulling Bakugou into his chest. “And I do mean it. You’re not a freak for liking tickling.”
“...You mean it?” There was something so vulnerable in his voice just now- a quiver of insecurity. Todoroki leaned forward until their foreheads were pressed together, meeting his eye.
“With my entire being- down to the smallest of microcells.”
“You’re such a dork.” Bakugou laughed- voice a little wet. Todoroki smiled before leaning down, kissing his wobbly smile.
“I’m your dork. And you’re mine.”
Hand It Over! (My Hero Academia)
Warning: Tickle fic ahead!
Characters: Todoroki, Bakugou
Word Count: 1,535
Summary: Bakugou wants to watch TV, but Todoroki had control of the remote first. After (barely) asking nicely, he decides the only way to get it is through torture~.
A/N: This fic isn't necessarily TodoBaku, but it can be read that way or platonically! :D
“I said, give it to me!”
“Stop, Bakugou, I was here first.”
“Like I give a shit, Icy-Hot! Hand it over!”
Todoroki yelped when Bakugou pounced on him. He angrily tried grasping at the TV remote, which Todoroki held high above his head. Everything had been peaceful until Bakugou decided he wanted to come out of his room for once. Todoroki was watching a news program, though not much had been going on aside from the usual reports, and not two minutes had passed before Bakugou started demanding the remote. The half-and-half hero was used to this behavior from his classmate by now, but that didn’t stop him from rolling his eyes at the way he was being spoken to.
He tried grabbing at his explosive classmate’s hands with one of his own while still keeping the remote out of reach. “Stop. I already told you I’d give it to you when my show was over.”
“It’s the news!” Bakugou scoffed, still grappling for the remote, “It’s not even entertaining!”
“Maybe not to you, but it is to me.”
“Gimme the remote!”
“I said no.”
Bakugou growled, aggravated at the fact that his classmate was being so calm and that he was about equal strength with him, if not more so, so trying to grab the remote while he was pushing him away was more of a difficult task than he’d like it to be. In the midst of his fruitless attempts, he shifted his position, and accidentally brushed his hand along Todoroki’s side when rebalancing. He shot his gaze downward when he heard a loud gasp escape from his friend, along with his arm coming down ever so slightly.
“The hell was that?” Bakugou inquired, his usual gruffness accompanied by a sprinkle of interest and confusion.
“N-Nothing,” Todoroki stammered, his heart pounding and face flushed.
The hot headed hero silently scanned his friend beneath him, trying to figure out what could have elicited such a sound. He narrowed his eyes and shot him a glare.
“I’m not dumb, Icy-Hot!”
“I never said you were.”
“Then tell me what that sound was!”
Todoroki felt himself sinking further into the couch, wishing he could just go back to watching TV. He felt his face heating up more and more by the second. He didn’t know how to get out of this. Bakugou was determined and stubborn; there was no way he was going to let this go. Quickly and in a panic, he took the moment Bakugou was distracted to squeeze at his side with his free hand. His classmate yelped in surprise, defensively wrapping his arms around his torso. This didn’t stop Todoroki, as he grinned a little and continued squeezing the side he had a grip on. Bakugou grit his teeth, growling in place of forced laughter, and tried clawing at his friend’s offending hands.
“S-Stop! What are you d-doing?!”
“What’sa matter, Bakugou? Are you ticklish?”
“O-Of course not, moron! Stop it!”
“If you’re not ticklish, then why do you want me to stop?” Todoroki moved his hand up to Bakugou’s ribs, squeezing and scribbling whatever surface he could that his friend wasn’t actively protecting.
“B-Becahause!” Bakugou doubled over, practically falling on top of Todoroki while he clutched his torso desperately. “Leheheave me alone!!”
“Were those giggles I heard~? Did the big, bad Bakugou just giggle?”
“No! Shut UUUHUHUHUP! AHAHAHA NOHOHOHO!”
Todoroki smirked as his explosive friend came crashing down onto him. He continued to rapidly squeeze and knead at the spot just above his ribcage, not letting up for a second. Bakugou thrashed like a fish out of water, shoving at his friend’s hands in pure desperation. He couldn’t even muster up the strength to back away from him, that was how badly it tickled.
“Not ticklish, huh?”
“SHUHUHUHUT YOUR MOHOHOHOUTH! S-STAHAHAHAHAP! I WILL KIHIHILL YOHOHOHOU!”
“That’s not nice, Bakug–”
The half-and-half hero yelped when he felt a squeeze at his own side, and he absolutely melted when the squeezes continued. He lost any energy to keep up his own ticklish onslaught, and used any remaining energy to keep himself from laughing. Gasping for breath, Bakugou kept kneading and pinching his friend’s sides, grateful for the moment of reprieve. Once he finally regained his strength, he sat up fully and dug into his sides with more force.
“Oh, you all quiet now? What happened to that cocky attitude you just had, Icy-Hot?” He smirked and proceeded to explore Todoroki’s abdomen. He squeezed, kneaded, and scribbled his fingers along every inch of his ticklish torso. “C’mon! You were so vocal just a second ago! Laugh, dammit!”
A swift shake of his head was enough to encourage Bakugou to try even harder. He explored the entirety of his classmate’s torso, some spots eliciting more of a struggle than others, but he knew he hit the jackpot when he ventured up to his armpits. A single poke was enough to cause Todoroki to squeal and thrash harder than he had thus far. He shot his arms down and started pushing at his tormentor, but he grabbed his wrists and pinned them above his head with one hand. The remote had long since fallen to the floor.
“There we go,” Bakugou grinned mischievously as he drilled into his friend’s hollows with his free hand.
“BAHAHAHAHAKUGOHOHOU!! PLEHEHEHEHEASE!”
“Please? Please what? You have no room to beg, you started this!” He started kneading his thumb into the pits while scribbling his fingers on the outsides of them. “But I won’t object to hearing you beg. So go on, beg all ya want! See how far it gets you~.”
“NOHOHOHO TEHEHEHEASING!! C-C’MOHOHOHOHON, PLEHEHEHEHEASE STOHOHOHOP!!”
The smirk on the explosive teen’s face was spine-chilling. He looked sadistic as he tormented his poor classmate, really digging into one of his worst spots with such vigor, and feeding off the desperation in his voice. The combination of his bright red face and shrieking, helpless laughter was intoxicating. He had no intention of stopping anytime soon, and it showed. That is unless…
“You regretting not giving me the remote yet?”
“YOHOHOHOHOU’RE STIHIHIHILL ON ABOUT THAHAHAHAHAT?!”
“Why wouldn’t I be? You never gave it to me! Come to think of it…” Bakugou turned his hand into a claw, intensely scribbling into his friend’s armpits with deadly precision. “Is that why you started tickling me? Did I accidentally tickle you while tryna grab the remote? You wanted to distract me from trying to do it again?”
The heat that radiated off of his classmate’s face was enough of an answer. Todoroki shrieked, whined, and thrashed as his armpits were tormented. He wanted to just cover his face, too embarrassed to even wanna be in the same room as Bakugou right now. No one had known he was ticklish. Hell, he hadn’t even known until a particular confrontation with Midoriya not long ago. His upbeat friend had sworn not to tell a soul, though, so he figured he was safe from anyone else finding out. How he hated being wrong.
“Well?” Bakugou pinched the skin around the half-and-half hero’s armpits, drilled directly into the middle of them, rapidly scribbled and tickled every inch of the sensitive skin, doing whatever he could to squeeze out the loudest and most desperate laughter.
“YEHEHEHEHES, OKAHAHAHAY?! YEHEHEHEHEHES! AHAHAHAHARE YOU HAHAHAPPY NOHOHOW?!”
“Not yet. You still need to hand over the remote.”
“FIHIHIHINE, JUHUHUHUHUST TAHAHAHAKE IT!”
“I don’t think I wanna stop just yet, you’re having so much fun~!”
“BAHAHAHAHAKUGOU!!”
“Ugh. Fine. After this.” Bakugou proceeded to lift his classmate’s shirt up, hold down his wrists with both of his hands, scoot downward, then positioned his lips above his tummy.
“W-What… Whahahat are you dohoing?” Todoroki looked on with confusion, tensing his belly for the worst.
Without a word, the explosive hero took a large breath in, then blew a giant raspberry on his friend’s bare tummy. The noise that escaped him was almost inhuman. A mix of a shriek, a snort, and uncontrollable laughter, immediately followed by silent hysterics. Todoroki thrashed and bucked and squirmed, desperately trying to get away from the ticklish torment. He had never experienced such a torturous feeling before. And yet, he would be lying if he said it didn’t feel exhilarating.
Once his long raspberry concluded, Bakugou sat off of his friend, shooting him an amused smirk. His classmate was a mess of tear-stained, red cheeks, residual giggles, and tingling nerves everywhere. After a few moments of trying to calm down, he sat up fully and glared at Bakugou, though it lost any effectiveness due to the wide smile he so desperately tried to hide.
“So, remote?” Bakugou inquired expectantly.
Todoroki huffed as he got off of the couch, legs trembling. He went around to the side the armrest he had been pinned to was on, and grabbed the remote that had fallen to the floor in the commotion. He then plopped back onto the couch, all energy having been expended.
“Here,” he glowered at Bakugou as he handed him the remote.
“Finally,” the hot head relaxed into the couch as he changed the channel, looking victorious. He then peered at Todoroki curiously, saw his attempt at a scowl, and laughed. “What? Your show’s over anyway~.”
a path to follow
Sometimes, Shouto gets tired of being the one to chase after everyone else.
And he wonders, not for the first time and not for the last, what it would feel like to have someone chase after him for a change.
i have a lot of emotions about canon being mean to shouto so i wrote about it (and it's todobaku flavored!!)
you can read the fic here on ao3!
Which, as much as he hates to admit it, Bakugou is extremely grateful for. Most of his classmates didn't end up too bad, but Todoroki, Deku and himself... well... They're lucky they got out with their lives. Despite having heard endless lectures about carelessness from his parents, healers, doctors and their teachers, Bakugou didn't regret any of his decisions. They each went above and beyond, just like heroes are supposed to be. They each saved each other several times over. If he had to do it all again, Bakugou wouldn't change a damn thing about the way he acted.
Granted, the end of the battle is a blur at best. Four Eyes said Bakugou refused to stay down, getting up and getting back in the fight every time Deku or Todoroki got in any sort of tight situation, which, yeah. Sounded accurate. His own injuries were still being treated, having sustained too much damage for any healers to safely treat in one or two sittings. As it is, Bakugou's arms, stomach and head are still wrapped tightly in bandages. It still hurts for him to move too much. Bending over is an absolute no-go. The internal damage he sustained from jumping in front of Shigaraki's attack was much worse than any of his external injuries and had been the main concern for treatment.
Deku is used to being completely busted up, of course. Auntie Inko had been completely beside herself when she found out. Bakugou assumes he's doing fine since he hasn't gotten any sort of email or text about a funeral. He supposes he could check on the damn nerd eventually but for now his focus is on his boyfriend.
Todoroki is physically in the best shape of any of them, and that's saying a lot since he sustained quite a few injuries himself. Most of his chest and back are covered in first degree burns. Bakugou figures these would be much worse if he weren't mostly fireproof. His body just hadn't been able to handle that attack from Dabi.
Dabi. Todoroki Touya.
That's what Bakugou is really worried about. Todoroki is tough. A couple burns and bruises wouldn't even phase him. But ever since they'd gotten back to the dorms, Todoroki had this look in his eyes. The distant coldness that he'd had when they first started school. Bakugou hadn't seen that look in months, especially not when it was just the two of them, alone. Todoroki has been helping Bakugou just function with his limited mobility, but Bakugou can tell the half and half male is trapped in his mind. The problem is, he has no idea how to help.
With a sigh, he lets himself into Todoroki's room, finding the other male sitting on the floor staring out the door to his balcony. Hearing his door, mismatched eyes move to see Bakugou before turning back to look outside. Bakugou expected as much. This is how it's been for days. The two of them mostly just sitting in silence. The blonde makes his way over and contemplates how to best maneuver his way to sit beside his boyfriend, slowly bending his knees and reaching an arm back, using the wall to help guide himself down gently.
"You shouldn't be sitting on the floor. You can sit at my desk," Todoroki says without looking at him, his voice completely monotone. Bakugou leans forward a little, grimacing from the pressure it puts on his midsection, and presses a gentle kiss to Todoroki's shoulder. Soft in a way only this asshole gets to see.
"I'll be fine, Halfie. How are you doing?" the blonde tries, expecting to be shut out immediately.
"I"m fine."
Of course.
"Shouto," Bakugou tries again, not really sure what to say. He doesn't know how to do the comforting thing, and he's certainly never had to with Todoroki before. Well, once, when Endeavor had nearly fucking kicked the bucket on national news but that was easier because by the time the two of them were alone, they'd already known Endeavor was fine and stable, so it was simply calming Todoroki back down to reality. This was a different ballpark.
"I don't want to talk about it, Katsuki," Todoroki snapped, turning to look at Bakugou with a flame of anger in his eyes. Bakugou had to genuinely school himself into not smirking at the expression. It'd been a while since such an expression was aimed towards him as well and fuck, if it didn't fuel that competitive asshole in him.
Instead, Bakugou reaches out, resting a hand on Todoroki's leg and tugging until the half and half male sighs and complies, turning his body to face the blonde completely. "I know you don't, but that's too damn bad. Sitting with it in your head is fuckin shitty and you know that."
It's brief but Bakugou is certain he sees the wall fall, a flash of emotion swirling in those beautiful, stupid fucking eyes before they steel over again.
"It's private," Todoroki says instead. It stings but Bakugou tries not to let that show. They've only been dating for a few months. He should understand that maybe they're not yet at that level of trust and openness, but he wishes they were.
"Fine, you don't have to talk to me, but you need to talk to someone. Fuck, Deku or a therapist or something, Shou. This is too heavy to deal with alone."
Bakugou has never seen a dam break. He's seen an avalanche, kind of. Seeing as he'd caused it. But even that was so minor, on so small a mountain that he barely considered it an avalanche. But that's the closest metaphor he has for the moment Todoroki stops fighting and lets the walls collapse entirely.
"How... How is he my brother?" The younger male starts, his eyes falling to his lap, where his hands are twisting the shit out of the hem of his shirt. Bakugou's shirt, the blonde notes upon closer inspection. He'd be irritated about it getting stretched out if it wasn't so miniscule compared to what his boyfriend is dealing with. "We share the same blood. He's killed people. He's-- He took you! He could have killed you. My brother. I thought... I thought he was dead. My old man said he was dead. I--"
At the mention of his kidnapping, Bakugou tenses slightly, still having quite a lot to unpack from that incident himself, but he doesn't dwell on that. Todoroki's breathing is coming faster, and it raises an alarm in Bakugou. He moves his hand to the other's shoulder, giving him a light squeeze with no response.
"He wants me dead... Why? I never... I barely got to know him. I was too young. I don't-- I don't want him dead. Is that wrong? It feels wrong. What did I do? I didn't... I didn't--" His breathing is too fast now. Bakugou's afraid the other might pass out and given that he can't exactly quickly get help, he'd rather avoid that if possible. He feels a pang of guilt for asking Todoroki to talk about this, maybe he should have let it go for a little longer, but it's not time to dwell on that.
"Hey," Bakugou says gently, grabbing Todoroki's face gently and lifting his head until their eyes meet. "You've gotta calm down, Shou. Breathe with me, okay? In... Good. Out."
It takes a good minute or two before Todoroki's breathing returns to normal and his eyes look more aware. Bakugou keeps a careful gaze on him, making sure he's stable before relaxing his hold.
"Sorry, I just..." Todoroki rubs his face, pushing a hand through his hair and mixing up red and white. It'd be cute if it was so damn terrifying to see his boyfriend like this.
"Fuck that, don't ever apologize for shit like that," Bakugou says with a scoff, moving to lean back against the wall. He reaches out an arm and Todoroki takes the silent invitation, sliding in next to him and barely curling into the blonde's side after eyeing to make sure he wouldn't hit anything injured. "Look. I don't fucking know what to say or do to help you. This obviously wasn't fucking covered in our psych classes and I sure as shit don't have any experiences with siblings. The closest I've got is shitty Deku. So I can't give advice and I can only barely imagine what the fuck you're dealing with."
Todoroki is silent, which isn't abnormal. He's listening, Bakugou can tell, and his breathing is even, their chests rising and falling together.
"On the one hand, I guess you're fucking glad your brother's actually alive. Then you're guilty about the fact that you're glad he's alive because he's a fucking murderer, right?" Bakugou says, trying to piece everything together properly. He doesn't know if it's helping or making things worse, but Todoroki doesn't tell him to shut up (which he absolutely would have no issues with doing) so the blonde continues. "We can't know what's going through his fucking head. I guess your piece of shit dad pushed him too far and he snapped. So it's totally fucking normal that you don't feel the same way about him as he does you, Shou. Because you're not him. You're not a fuckin' psychopath. You're a god damn hero."
"He was supposed to be a hero, too," Todoroki adds, his voice so soft Bakugou barely hears it.
"Let me play Devil's Advocate here, yeah? It's not your fuckin' fault, clearly, but think about if the roles were swapped. He trained with your old man to be a hero then your ass is born, the perfect combination that Asshole was trying for in the first place. Psychofuck probably felt abandoned. He was young, right? Kids don't fuckin' process shit the same. Even in a much less fucked family, sometimes the big siblings get jealous of the new baby getting all the attention. Must be ten times fuckin worse when it feels like your entire existence just became irrelevant."
Bakugou has no sympathy for Dabi, let that be fucking clear. He doesn't give a shit what happens to the guy, but part of their training as heroes is understanding what makes villains do the shit they do in the first place. So while he can understand the events that led to Dabi being a huge piece of shit, he sure as hell isn't going to forgive him for any of it.
"He's being a big fuckin' child if he has yet to get the fuck over himself and still blames you for being born like that was your fuckin' fault. Even if he has grown the fuck up and realizes you're not to blame, you're still the best way for anyone to hurt Endeavor," Bakugou adds. It feels like he's not helping. It feels like he's just shoving more and more bad shit in Todoroki's face. But still, the other lets him go.
"And there's nothing fuckin' wrong with you for not wanting your damn brother dead, for fuck's sake. It doesn't make you less of a hero. Yeah, he's a piece of fucking shit and a terrible person and I want him dead, but I don't have that fuckin' connection to him. I don't understand siblings at fuckin' all either, but if it was me and Deku, I wouldn't want the fucker dead. I'd just want him fuckin locked up. Maybe it's wrong to not want a murderer dead, but jesus christ, you're still a fucking human. Hero or not, you're allowed to have feelings."
At that, Todoroki scoffs, and Bakugou knows it's not at him, per se. More likely, it's an unspoken comment like 'not according to Endeavor.' But it's not like he's the fuckin golden standard of excellence anyway.
"I want to be happy, you know? You're told your brother you thought was dead is actually alive and well and your body automatically feels this relief you didn't even know you wanted," Todoroki says, still speaking quietly. Annoying fuck, he knows Bakugou's ears are fucked up. "I feel that relief and then I feel guilt, because of who he is. I feel anger because I was lied to. I feel disappointed because he's not the brother I expected."
"And all that sounds normal as fuck, if you ask me. You got fuckin' ripped off. Be angry, there's nothing fucking wrong with that."
"All the times we fought... He looked me in the eyes as he took you away..."
Bakugou's afraid of the other stumbling into another panic attack so steps in to steer the conversation away before it can get to that point.
"Oi, fuckin' enough about me, dammit. This is about you. You have a life outside of me, asshole. Yeah, yeah, he kidnapped me, but that's my beef with him. And unless you two were pen pals or some shit, he didn't know I meant anything to you. That was just a coincidence."
Todoroki speaks again, but this time it's too quiet for Bakugou to hear. He shrugs his shoulder, jostling Todoroki a little until he looks up. The blonde raises a hand and taps it to his own ear and watches as the understanding fills his boyfriend's features. It's an unspoken agreement they'd come to after several fights. Bakugou hated admitting weakness and having to ask Todoroki to repeat himself and had snapped at the other a time or two for it, which made Todoroki feel bad. Since they're both so good at emotions, this meant snapping back until the conversation devolved into a fight. So now, Bakugou reminds the other wordlessly, so he can't accidentally snap or say the wrong thing, and Todoroki repeats what he said calmly, like it's the first time he's spoken the words.
"How am I supposed to look at my father again?"
Bakugou frowns, because that he really doesn't know how to answer. Fuck, he doesn't know how Todoroki's faced his father even before this shit after all that he's done. Todoroki's stronger than Bakugou in that way, and a better fucking hero, because Bakugou would have blown that bridge to bits years ago.
"I... I think you'll figure that out. In time. I don't think you gotta rush to a solution right now. You're allowed to be hurt and angry at him, too. And you're allowed to forgive him, if you want. Karma fucking caught up to the prick, and unfortunately he got a fuckload of other people caught up in his bullshit for it. Make him fuckin' apologize for that at least but then it's up to you how you want to move forward. You don't owe anyone a damn thing," Bakugou says, reaching to fix Todoroki's hair because the mess of red and white looks fucking stupid and it's been bugging him.
"That's not true," Todoroki says, though he sits still while Bakugou fusses over him. "I owe a lot to you."
Bakugou rolls his eyes.
"Don't start with that sappy shit, I swear to fuck, I'll beat your ass," he says, fighting against the blush threatening to settle on his cheeks. He hates how fuckin soft praise makes him, even unwarranted. He's just trying to be a decent fuckin' boyfriend, not rack up a tally of debt.
"You can't beat me in hand to hand and you're still not allowed to use your quirk." It's said so casually, like a comment on the weather, and Bakugou feels his eyebrow twitch in anger.
"Fucking say that again, Halfie," Bakugou threatens, curling his hand but not activating his quirk, because Todoroki's right and he doesn't actually want to permanently damage his body.
"I said that loud enough. Maybe you should reconsider hearing aids."
Bakugou wants to kill him.
He's thinking about it, really, and would probably at least give him a good fucking punch if the teasing didn't mean Todoroki was feeling at least a little bit better. So for now, he'll let his pride take the hit.
"I'm sleeping in my fucking room."
"How are you going to get up without my help?"
Bakugou punches him not-so-gently in the arm. Whether he's feeling better or not, Todoroki deserves it. And that motherfucker has the audacity to smile after that. What the fuck?
"I hate you so fucking much."
Favorite TodoBaku/BakuTodo fics
So, I am fairly new to this fandom/pairing, but I decided to start building my favorites list. Already it is very, very hard to choose. There are so many amazing fics and incredible authors writing them! But these (in no particular order) are the ones I am coming back to/re-reading the most. (I'll be adding to this as I go, this is just the start of it). Many of these authors have other fantastic todobaku/bakutodo fics as well.
playing with fire by ninanna. rated M. How things unfold and overlap, hurt and please between two people who do not see any potential in each other beside rivalry and occasional partnership. [Note: I think this is now my favorite all-time fic; it's a tour de force; spectacular. all ninanna's todabaku/bakutodo fics are - the author reaches in and rips out your guts in the best way possible.]
The Feel of His Hand is Like Home by XenophonSpeaks. rated T. A typical mission goes unexpectedly south, leaving Todoroki reeling with panic, injured and compromised. Thankfully, he didn't embark on this mission alone. [This author! so good.]
Sated, by Crossfire. rated M. Some Alphas and Omegas get cuddly, or tired, or hungry. Some Alphas and Omegas like to fuck. Bakugou and Todoroki like to fight. [I'm a sucker for (especially non-explicit) alpha/beta/omega, and this one hits the sweetest of sweet spots.]
anything you say can and will be held against you by delectum. rated G. What is the correct protocol for when the villain you’re supposed to be apprehending starts flirting? [So funny and perfectly executed.]
Be Kind, Rewind by seventh_time_lucky. rated T. What starts off as a normal-seeming Sunday starts to get stranger and stranger, until Shouto finds himself locked out of UA, with no money and no phone, and the only person he can find to help is Midoriya. But Midoriya is too tall and cries every time he looks at Shouto, and Shouto starts to think something has gone really, really wrong. [Perfect angst. wip.]
Finding and Holding by bigcatsmallcat. rated T. Shouto gets temporarily quirked into a mushroom. [This one is really bakutododeku, but it is so adorable I had to put it in.]
Something of Silence by Viidoll. rated T. When Bakugou Katsuki is unexpectedly hit with a muting quirk, he makes it his mission to hunt down the moron stupid enough to silence him. Reluctant to receive help, he somehow gets it anyway - in the perplexing form of one Todoroki Shouto. In the process of losing his voice and struggling to get it back, Bakugou might just learn a little about listening. [Ah, one of the earliest ones I read of these two. So perfect.]
put some socks on by Tierfal. rated T. Shouto comes home after an extremely long day, and Bakugou is sitting on the couch. [The banter here is especially delectable.]
the witch's familiar by orange_cheetah. rated M. The night he escapes from the castle, crown prince Todoroki Shouto finds himself cursed by the magician in his father's employ. Undeterred, Todoroki strikes up a deal of his own: kill the most powerful witch in the kingdom to have the curse broken. There's just one small problem: he's somehow ended up as the familiar of the witch in question—Bakugou Katsuki. [This is such great storytelling, the way the pieces all slot into place at the end.]
i'm tired, i'm tired of not loving you by yekijan. rated M. [Amnesia fic. So much fabulous angst.]
Ten Years Wanting by Ramabear (RyMagnatar). Rated E. Bakugou. His name is Bakugou. Or at least that is what they call him.Everyone has been calling him by some other phrase that he cannot understand and that makes his head hurt when he hears it too much. Bakugou doesn’t feel right until he hears Todoroki call him that and then it does. He remembers Todoroki calling him Bakugou. He has never really said his name with fondness and even now, as he tells Bakugou what he expects of him, he doesn’t say it kindly but he does say it.Something in the back of Bakugou’s mind tells him that this is progress. This is more than what there was before. This is closer to what he wants. [Another amnesia fic, this time the other way around].
A normal poly relationship doesn't have this many fucking spreadsheets by Anonymous. Not Rated. three teenage boys being fucking idiots because actually being mature about your feelings is for suckers. [wip. this is hilarious but also very sweet. warning: izuku is pretty much an asshole here, at least so far. and it is very much bakutodo/todobaku, not bakutododeku.]
I will love you in every universe by HeavenCat. Rated T. During a rescue mission, pro hero Katsuki aka Dynamight switches places with his fifteen-year-old self. (it's so good! so sweet and funny and good).
feel free to put your own faves in the comments or tags 😉
