A Glimpse Into the Future - Planning my TOK Essay
aka, the impossible task...
I struggled with deciding which essay prompt to use for a while.  My issue with the prompts wasn’t that I didn't like any of them, but rather the opposite. I found that they were all so deep that I could think of things to write for each and every one. Let me tell you, I was driving myself MAD trying to figure out which one is best for me! But then, I realized something... if you have read my other blogs, you have probably come to the conclusion that whenever I can, I will try to talk about history. The topic that I chose allowed me that same opportunity because I knew that I could use real historical events to back up my investigation. And with that, I ended up choosing (drum roll, please!!)...PROMPT NUMBER ONE.
Prompt number one is asking the question of whether subjectivity is overly celebrated in the arts but unfairly condemned in history? So, what exactly does this mean? I found that the best way to delve into this essay was to make sure that I thoroughly understand what the question is asking me. The way I see it, essentially, this question is asking me if subjectivity is overly celebrated and praised or expected in the arts, whereas when it comes to history, it is criticized when used. I find this a very interesting topic because there are so many ways that you could go about looking at it as there is no real “right” answer to this question. My plan was to look at a very balanced approach and consider both sides. Because of taking IB history last year, we focused on a lot of different command terms, and so I was taught that the term “discuss” is to give a well-rounded view on everything that there is to acknowledge before answering the question.
My next step in planning out this essay was to break it down by body paragraph and figure out what I wanted to put in each one. So for starters, I was thinking that my introduction would start with an interesting hook. Although it's sometimes considered basic, I am the kind of person who stands by starting an essay with quotes. Something about it, to me, is just so satisfying and really helps guide the essay. So the quote that I found was, “One cannot conceive of objectivity without subjectivity.” This quote will allow me to really dive into how objectivity and subjectivity relate. This is why, after introducing the topic, I want to also briefly give a definition of the two terms. I have no doubt that whoever is reading my essay knows what subjectivity and objectivity mean, but it's still helpful just as a bit of a filler for further clarification. Then the intro will be finished off with my thesis statement – which hasn't been fully determined yet, but I think I'm going to come to the conclusion that neither should be condemned nor overpraised, but a balance should be found.
The first body paragraph will then focus specifically on art and talk about how art uses subjectivity to its advantage and how subjectivity is an important part of art in bringing out emotion and a story behind the piece. To further this, I'll give an example of a famous piece and the subjectivity in them. Following this, in the next paragraph, I will move the centre stage to history and talk about how in contrast to art, history is often presented with objectivity only. I'll talk about how historians are expected to show objectivity and no biases. Similarly to the first body paragraph, I will give some examples of objectivity in history. These two first paragraphs will be very similar.
Then, in the next paragraph, I'll turn the attention to the other side of the argument and explore where there is subjectivity in history and how that can even be beneficial. This will allow a good ending point to my essay, that will allow me to write a detailed conclusion about how a balance between objectivity and subjectivity in both history and art is the best approach. I think that if I follow this general format for the essay, it will make it very clear to the readers and allow for an essay train of thought to follow.

Lokius Nation we won, but at what costs? A quick breakdown of my thoughts on the Loki Finale!
Watch on the Clock App
Transcript below!
Let’s talk about the Loki Finale.
Spoilers incoming.
Sighs deeply
As Twitter user Han (@hansoeii) put it, Lokius Nation, we won, but at what cost?
Tumblr media
Now you might be thinking, but we didn’t get a Lokius kiss or a love confession, how could we have won?!
Let me explain…
In episode 5, when Loki is talking to Slyvie at the bar, he talks about how he wants to give his friends - and Mobius - the chance to choose. To choose to stay at the TVA or to have a life on the branch if they want. Of course, he wants Mobius to choose to have a life with him - but after the time loops and talking with HWR, he realizes this isn’t possible because he’s the only person who can make the difficult choice - To give up his own life to give everyone else the chance to choose. To finally accept his Glorious Purpose, his burden, as Mobius puts it.
The other heartbreaking part is that Loki doesn’t talk to “his” Mobius before making his decision. Because if he did, Mobius wouldn’t have let him make that decision. He wouldn’t have let him go alone. That's why Loki can’t say anything before heading down those steps.
But after all this - Mobius realizes he doesn’t have a purpose at the TVA without Loki. So he goes down to the branch to see Don and his boys - the life he could have had.
Apologies I can’t find the post, but on Tumblr someone pointed out that Mobius might have left the TVA just so Loki could see him on branch. Since the TVA exists outside of time, Loki, and formerly HWR probably can’t see directly into it, which is probably partly why HWR created Miss Minutes to keep an eye on the TVA and report back.
So Mobius goes down to a branch and stands in the light. Sylvie joins him. When we cut between these two, we see this green and gold light around only Mobius. Green and gold? Do I have to spell it out?
Tumblr media
Finally at the end it’s revealed that Loki is watching the conversation, but we specially hear Mobius’ words echo across time. Let time pass.
I absolutely adore this post from @makkarisbelova, “Mobius wanted to just stand there and let time pass simply to feel himself in a timeline sitting in the palm of Loki’s hand.”
Tumblr media
Loki was watching, and Mobius knew.
Tumblr media
The fact that Mobius and then Loki are the last shots of the show solidified that whether you consider them romantic partners or best friends, their friendship is the center - the heart - of the show.
Obviously this is extremely heartbreaking and feels like it’s perpetuating the trope where gay people are never allowed to be together. BUT I will give you one more breadcrumb.
Tumblr user @kcscribbler pointed out that Loki's magic includes duplication-casting, along with time manipulation. Theoretically, he could cast a duplicate of himself into any timeline, without leaving his new throne.
Tumblr media
So I think at some point, whether it’s right after the screen cuts to black or perhaps sometime after when they’re both ready, Loki casts a projection down to Mobius’ branch and he’s able to talk to him and explain why he did what he did. Then Mobius can finally have closure, because remember, he has no idea that Loki went through thousands of time loops trying to fix the loom. Loki can finally have all the time in the world to explain everything to Mobius, including confessing his true feelings.
It’s still not a perfect, happy ending by any means, but all things considered, I think the writers and of course the actors understood how special and important this relationship is. So please don’t be discouraged that we didn’t get a happy ending. Please keep creating art, writing fic, posting your theories, and loving them. And since we now have an infinite multiverse… everything is possible 💚

i think it’s inch resting how regulus’s fanon personality, “redemption” arc and overall his entire plot line is just… draco malfoy? like in canon regulus had a self made pinterest board of death eater propaganda in his bedroom and now he is dark haired draco malfoy. like. WHICH it’s fucking insane to me because u ask the average jegulus fan their opinion on drarry and. they hate it. it’s weird to them. but regulus black is just draco malfoy, i’m not saying people write james as harry however. i definitely think people tend to take harry’s entire being, question how he’d act if he hadn’t been abused and go yup that’s james! which. ok. if reg is already draco in a wig then why not!

No one asked, but I'm gonna rewatch book one and two and drudge up as much of the autistic coding as possible.
The question is mostly which one I should start with? Any preferences?
It'll probably take more than one post for me to get through most of it, so I might have to dedicate individual posts to certain/reoccurring things.
Also! If you guys have any scenes in particular you think should be mentioned, I'm absolutely down for looking into them.

so this video isn't directly about bts but i feel like it's super relevant to them and how there's actually some interesting science going on behind the infamous bts army glow up.
if you're unfamiliar, the bts army glow up is the long running theory? shared experience? amongst said army that listening to bangtan is life changing, usually in incredibly positive ways. your self confidence goes up, your heart grows wider, your view of the world changes, sometimes imperceptibly, sometimes outright. when you choose to engage with their music, and i think you get out as much as you put in, you are choosing to immerse yourself in a thoughtfully composed orchestra of genuine thoughts and feelings and philosophies curated by real human beings. which can be really difficult to find in this age of AI and algorithms. (fuck them, as a wise man once said) go further and choose to engage with them directly, beyond their music alone, and now you're straight up in the magic shop.
if bts were any less than outstanding, that type of power and influence would be terrifying. in the wrong hands, it has been terrifying before but call it some sort of cosmic, karmic balance to the rest of these times we're forced to live in, against all odds, they are good. they are good people. they're overarching messages are positive and deep and applicable to their own lives, it's not just for show. and even when/where they are flawed, they grow, and are made all the greater for it.
personally, they have raised the bar for all of the media i enjoy. i am low key disappointed when i cannot find the underlying meaning in something. this artist hasn't used any jungian theory/greek mythology/contemporary indie films/etc. references in their work? well, what am i supposed to do with that? lol and i'm not saying everything, always, should be an elucidated think piece, that there's no room for the dulcet tones of bubblegum pop (bts has plenty!) or whatever cotton candy equivalents of entertainment, those things have their place, for sure.
but you are what you eat? or in this case, listen to. be careful what you consume.
