I have never seen this show in my life, so I hope I do it justice. 😬😅

• You had gotten into UA on Recommendation due to the strength and complexity.

• At first, your classmates didn't know what to think. Sometimes, they didn't know if it was really you or if it was a clone. Most of them thought your quirk was awesome, others thought it was blaaa. *cough, cough.* Bakugou. *cough, cough*

• That being said, you and Bakugou didn't get along. He was explosive and you were dismissive. You did react much when he tried to rile you up. You did speak up when he got too much with the others though.

• You did get along with Tokoyami really well. You two were very similar. Quiet, dark, and caring.

• It was surprising to the Class when they first witnessed the complexity of your quirk. When they saw your clones have the elemental abilities, they were floored. It was during the first class at Ground Beta that they got a small peak, but it was at the USJ that they saw the real deal.

• No villain was able to get near you. Unfortunately, you were knocked out by running up at the wrong moment to where Kaminari, Jirou, and Momo were at when Kami shocked the hell out of the villains. (Kami is extremely sorry when he comes out of his stupor.)

• Later, you would find out that Kaminari and Todoroki's quirks would help charge the elemental powers of your clones. Bakugo's does too.

• It took awhile for anyone to really get close to you. Not because you didn't want to make friends or that they didn't want anything to do with you. You just had a hard time making friends.

• You were an only child and you didn't have many cousins. You also didn't have a lot of friends in middle school either. Plus your parents didn't help either. They were picky about who they let you hang out with.

• If the kid was too "Low class" there was no way they were letting you hang out with them. If your parents didn't get along with or were insulted by the other kids' parents, then you weren't allowed to talk to them again.

• So you eventually gave up with trying to make friends. Your parents tried to defend themselves by saying they were doing it for you, saying that they were looking out for you (they just wanted to have you ascend them in popularity.)

• The Class blew the walls your parents built sky high once they got through to you. Your parents no longer had a say.

• Everyone cheered everyone on. Well except a certain blonde. The class became a much needed source of encouragement and love you've needed for a long time.

• You were still the same quiet person but now you had people who you could actually get Crazy with.

• As mentioned before, you and Tokoyami got along really well. Dark shadow also liked you very much. You weren't afraid of the creature at all which pleasantly surprised them both. You also really got a kick out of his demeanor and personality. You two could spend hours reading together. You would recommend new books to each other. You two just enjoyed each other's company.

• You and Todoroki got along really nicely too. You both knew what it was like to have controlling parents. You were able to help him calm down and work with the emotions his father caused.

• Kirishima, Mina, and Uraraka always made sure to include you or invite you to everything. They never forced you to be loud or do anything you didn't want to.

• You did enjoy using your quick to mess with Monoma. You, Kaminari, and Sero can't stand the guy and your quirk lets you mess with him easily. He can't copy your quirk from your clones and he hasn't learned how to tell which is the original.

• Aizawa became a father figure to you just like he did for others. You tried not to give him trouble and tried to keep some of the others in line which he appreciated. Your quirk was new to him due to the multiple aspects to it. If he was asked, you were one of his favorite students. (You were definitely not one that gave him gray hairs.)

• Even though you weren't close with some and didn't get along with others, Class 1A was your family. You would do anything for them. Follow them to war and never stop to bring someone home if they're lost.

My personal thoughts/nitpicks for each character.

Awase - Honestly I have nothing to nitpick about his character itself (other than his lack of style) but I dont like how the fandom doesn't acknowledge how hard he has worked to become a pro (he litterally almost died for momo during the summer camp attack)

Sen - i have nothing to nitpick exsept I wish we could see his love for photography a little bit in the show instead of just having horikoshi saying he likes photography yk

Kamakiri - i dont like how he doesnt have a cannon backstory or cannon reasoning for being as loud and brash as he is. Bakugou and Monoma have their reasons for being dicks so I wanna know his.

Kuroiro - i have nothing to nitpick because he is perfect. (Seriously tho, i love his design, character, personality and quirk and it all fits him so well. I just wish we could see more of him)

Kendo - im not sure what it is about her character but theres something there I dont really like. I cant tell what it is tho so I cant nitpick it rip. Its been bothering me since ive first started bnha.

Kodai - my only nit pick with her is I have a hard time writing for her sometimes but thats about it. Shes kinda boring and she has no hard set personality traits so i struggled to wrjte her in the past

Komori - the only thing I have to say for her is we dont see her as much as we should in the show but that could be said about all of class 1B.

Shiozaki - i actually didnt like her when I started this blog and was originally gonna exclude her from the blog because she made me uncomfortable but the more i have written for her the more she grew on me so now I dont mind her.

Shishida - hes kinda boring to me but I like the memes that make him seem like the class dog instead of just a student yk? I saw someone say hes scared of a hairdryer before lmao. Not rlly a nitpick but idc

Shoda - hes kinda basic to me all around. His cannon personality, likes, quirk, ect. Its all just kinda bland in comparison to most of the characters in the show (especially since this show prides itself on unique characters)

Pony - i dont like how she stabbed ojiro in season 5 or 6 I forgot which one. But yea thats about it. Shes pretty fun for me to write sometimes especially when I talk about her being American. But yea all i really have to nitpick is her stabbing ojiro

Tsubaraba - his quirk and personality is more on the unique side when it comes to this show (considering most of the side characters are the quiet/shy type.) But his design isnt anything special. The only way I can tell kosei apart from a random background character is his eyes. If his back is turned I have no idea who he is lmao

Tetsutetsu - in my heart those things around his eyes is a mask. I dont care that the author said they're eyelashes, its a mask. (Same thing with tokoyami having hair and not feathers...)

Tokage - shes cool and all but she is so fucking hard to write (especially since im trying to not dumb the characters down to one or two specific details) but her entire wiki is just 'emotional girl that likes dinosaurs, she kinda smart too' yk?

Manga - i love him and there is nothing to nitpick because he is perfect. He has one of the more unique personalities and quirks out of everyone in the show (in my opinion) and it fits him very well.

Honenuki - i dont like his design all that much. I like the mutation and his quirk is ok in my opinion but I dont like most other parts of his physical design.

Bondo - i like him but ive struggled to write for him a lot of the time because hes kinda boring and lacks any unique personality traits. Talking to him would be like talking to a wall but idc i live him anyways.

Monoma - his reasoning for being a dick to all of class 1-A is better than bakugous reason for being a dick but people excuse bakugous behavior but not monomas for some reason. Not really a nitpick on him but oh well.

Reiko - all I have to say about her is her personality is a little hard for me to write sometimes. Maybe because i dont know as much about her as I do some of the other students but she lacks emotion sometimes.

Rin - he is called the martial arts hero so where tf is the martial arts? I wanna see rin do martial arts in the way weve seen uraraka do martial arts but we dont get that >:( also there is so little content for him it actually drives me insane.

And to answer the fanfiction question-

I have yet to do any actual fanfiction simply because I dont think I would be good at it. I have creative ideas and i can put it into words until a certain point but I am unable to drag things out properly and put proper care into longer writings due to impatience and my lack of confidencein my longer writings. I might think about writing short oneshots for charachters in the future but for now I will stick with headcanons :P

Anyways my life is slowly being consumed by sun haven.

Tokoyami X shy! reader (part two)

(sorry for the misspellings i have fake nails on rn bc i had a wedding to go to)

as y/n woke up to they got a text from Tokoyami telling them he’s on his way. they tore out of bed so fast it would put Iida’s speed to shame.as they threw on their outfit and looked in the mirror they heard a knock at the door. “one minute!” they yelled as they ran into the bathroom to do their essentials then they grabbed their and bud their parents fairwell.

“Hey y/n” dark shadow yelled as they opened the door. “hey Dark Shadow, Hey Tokoyami” “ good morning y/n i hope you are doing well” “i am doing amazing! thanks for asking Toko”. the walk to school was quite as usual for two students who barely talk. then Dark Shadow broke the silence “so why does Mr. Aizawa sleep in a sleeping bag? is it because he gets cold? or does he sleep naked? cause Tokoyami sleeps in just hi-” just then an egg was thrown at all three of you from across the street. as you looked over you saw Monoma (idk how to spell his name) and his friends with a carton of eggs. you and Tokoyami didn’t waste another and sprinted to UA as fast as you could. as you both ran inside the gate of UA the eggs stopped but you two didn’t. you were soon yelled at by Tenya Iida the appointed “Hall Monitor” of class 1-a. “ WHAT IN TARNATIONS ARE TWO DOING RUNNING IN THE COURTYARD?” as Tokoyami explained the situation Iida soon walked into the 1-a class room door.

As you and Tokoyami laughed your buts off Dark Shadow started talking again “as i was saying- ooooo y/n” “yes Dark Shadow?” “me and Tokoyami were gonna go to an ice cream shop after school. Would you like to come?” you froze for a second or two asking yourself- like a date? as you shook your head at the thought you asked in a calm voice “l-like a date?” you asked blushing so hard, probably as red as Kirishima’s hair. “i-i mean if you would like it to be” Tokoyami stated blushing also. “i would love too” you stated before kissing his cheek and sprinting into class. Tokoyami stood there shocked that YOU had just KISSED HIM. he was shooken out of his thought by Iida yelling at him that he was going to be late if he didn’t hurry up. as he walked into class and sat he couldn’t help but stare at you waiting for the day to end so that he could FINALLY take you out…

I'm looking for Canon x OC, FxM only (will double for AxA) and very much offer to Double! I only roleplay on Discord.

I am semi-literate to literate. I can write a couple paragraphs, but I prefere not having too much pressure when it comes to length. I usually type around the max. length on Discord, sometimes more. But somedays it might be a bit less.

I write my OC in first person and the character I double as (plus any additional ones) in third person.

I am in college and not the most active (most likely no rapid fire), yet I try to answer regularly and ask of my partner to be patient. Roleplaying is just a hobby for me, so I don't wanna force myself to reply, if I still got work to do or wanna spend my freetime with something else.

Heroes vs Villains: Battle Plans

So with the heroes and villains duking it out on such a grand scale, I thought it would be fun to talk about what the heroes might have been thinking with some of their choices with the hero and villain parings and offer some of my own suggestions. I am talking about these in the context of in universe reasoning. Some of these characters are where they are for narrative reasons, but that is not the focus of this post. I can take any active hero in the country for this, so no retired, dead, or out-of-country heroes.

I won't be covering Takoba National Stadium or Aoyama's Meeting Place. As of right now, there isn't much to go off of for what those characters are up against, so there is nothing for me to work off of. I also won't move characters if I think they are better served where they are right now. For example, while Manual might be useful fighting in the aquatic area due to the abundance of water for him to control, he is far more valuable helping out Monoma and Aizawa.

Spinner’s Location: I’m honestly confused about why Koda and Shoji are here. I get narratively why they’re here, Hori obviously wants to wrap up that Mutant plot he introduced, but I fail to see why they are here from an in-universe perspective. Koda is almost exclusively useful as a support hero, and while he is tough, Shoji doesn’t have the greatest power output. Are they hoping that Koda would be able to control Spinner because he has Animal Mutation? Wow guys, way to make an assumption.

Now Iida would be great here. In such a tight space, he could dart around at high speeds, beating as many people as possible while wasting as little of his Recipro Burst as possible. Tokoyami would be good here too. With how few windows there seem to be, I imagine he’d be able to summon up a pretty large Dark Shadow and wipe everyone out. It would especially be good against Spinner since we’ve seen that Dark Shadow can work around getting stabbed by Moonfish.

Okuto Island: There's not a lot to say here given how few characters we see on both side of the conflict. Tsuyu, Gang Orca, and Selkie make sense, taking full advantage of the aquatic environment with their animal powers. I don't entirely understand why Uraraka is there from an in universe perspective. With all the sand and water she has around her, she doesn’t have as many items to use her Quirk on outside of a few rocks. I suppose you could argue that she does have the most experience with fighting Toga out of all of the heroes, so they’d want the edge their, but that seems flimsy.

Jiro and Shindo might actually be pretty useful here since, as the area is surrounded by water, they could send out more powerful shockwaves over longer ranges since vibrations would travel much easier in water, dealing with plenty of villains in quick succession. I would also add some of the more armored characters, like Kirishima, Hiryu, or even Ryukyu. Considering how big of threat Moonfish is with his blades and how reliant Toga is on blades to extra blood, any character with a lot of natural defense could work to counter both of those villain's’ main strategies.

Jaku Hospital: The line up of students here is good. As the main goal is to keep people from Gigantomachia, it only makes sense to use some of the more defensive heroes. Yui and Reiko can probably use their growing small objects combination to harass people, Mina’s Juzo can deter enemy movement, Mineta can catch people in his orbs, and Kirishima is just an amazing tank. Mount Lady is the only one I’m uncertain about. She isn’t terrible in terms of defense with how she can sweep people, I just think she’d be better elsewhere. My only guess is that Mount Lady is around in case Gigantomachia gets unleashed, as she is one of the few heroes who can effectively fight against him.

I’m surprised Shoda isn’t here. Not only could he compliment Yui and Reiko, reusing their strategy in the Joint Training Arc, since they planned this all beforehand, he could easily have impact landlines all over the place. He could even put him near Gigantomachia’s door, keeping anyone from getting too close. Present Mic could be great here. Since All the villains are focusing in on a single position, he could easily get a lot of them in a single sonic attack without worrying about his allies. Ectoplasm could be good to have. His various clones and his connections to them would help in keeping people from getting to Gigantomachia. Plus his giant body parts could swat people around him like Mount Lady or trap people inside them.

All Might Statue: There is Shoto, who is able to match and counter with his own temperature powers and resistances. Then there are Endeavor's sidekicks. Not only do all of these characters have ways to deal with the fires, but they have worked with Endeavor for an extended period of time. So they could counter Dabi's moves given that he took a lot of them from Endeavor. Iida seems like a really bizarre choice to be fighting Dabi. Not only because he has a natural weakness against Dabi, it was stated that being close to sources of high heat would cause his leg engines to overheat, but he's also a melee fighter. He's going to fly into Dabi and get burnt to a crisp. Even if he's meant to somehow overwhelm Dabi with speed or take care of the stragglers, it seems like an oversight to put him here.

I would have thrown Tetsutetsu in there as well. While he is another melee fighter, his amazing durability and massive resistance to heat could get him in close enough to deal serious damage to Dabi. Juzo could also work as an interesting counter. In theory, he could help contain or deter some of Dabi's flames by submerging him in the mud. If that doesn't work, Dabi has some pretty poor mobility when it comes to verticality. So trapping him in the mud could slow him down and make him an easier target. In a similar fashion, Bondo could help contain both Dabi and his flames, if even for a short while. Wash might be pretty good here as well, since he could help counteract whatever fire Dabi puts out with his soapy water. That or put Dabi in a time out bubble until he learns his lesson.

Gunga Mountain Resort: Endeavor, Hawks, Kamui Woods, and Shishido are some of the strongest heroes active right now, so it's only natural that they would fight All For One. Tora and Pixie Bob are both specially adapted to the environment as mountain rescue heroes. Pixie Bob in particular would do great here, having a lot of material to move and make Earth Beasts out of. Tokoyami feels odd here. It's been shown that Tokoyami doesn't work well with crowds, and I seriously doubt he could do much against All For One. Unless the idea is that being in a dark area like the forest would empower him, but having a raging shadow beast running around seems more like a liability. Jiro is odd too, as all the trees would deter her sound attacks, but it's not that bad. Kiniko is a good choice. We've seen before how good she is with crowd control. And since they are in a forested area, it's likely that humidity is much higher, meaning she has more moisture to work with.

Mount Lady would be a good pick for here. She has a lot more open space to battle in, so she wouldn't have to worry about confined spaces like she usually does. The same goes for Jurtora as well, with his beast form. Ibara might do some good here given how much area she can cover at once with her vines, subduing multiple foes at time with he hair. You think that Ojiro and Sato would be here, as it seems to have devolved into a massive brawl and both of them do great in those. Most of the named Shiketsu students could help here, as they all seem pretty effective when it comes to crowd control. Camie could distract people with her various illusions, Mora could wash over his foes in a wave of hair, and Seiji could leave people as literally chunks of meat on the battlefield. Inasa especially would be greater here given how much power he has over the environment, which could pair with how well Pixie Bob controls the land, making neither safe for the enemy.

UA High: This team is really good. Bakugou and Miruko are both extremely fast, rush down fighters. Nejire can fly and output a lot of damage with her beams. Edgeshot is one of the fastest heroes around. And Best Jeanist has great control over the battlefield. So it's a good mix of speed and damage output from this team with some battlefield control, not giving Tomura any time to think or recover. Tamaki seems out of place here at first. While strong, most of his showings are those of a melee fighter who relies more on his ability to adapt, being more of a jack of all trades. He doesn't have the same kind of speed or damage output to work well with these other fighters. However, we do see some signs of him adapting, such as him growing a pair of grasshopper legs in order to keep up with his teammates. And we can’t forget the invaluable role of support from Manual, Monoma, and Aizawa that they are playing on the sidelines.

As for any additions, I would consider Pony. She has a lot of good range and battlefield control with her horns, especially with how expendable they are. So she could fill a similar role to Edgeshot, both in dealing damage and moving Tomura around. Shoda might work out. Since there doesn't seem to be a limit on how many impacts he can have active, he could just trap the entire area with impacts to mess up Tomura if he happens to land on or near one. I may also consider Snipe. While bullets may not be that effective against Tomura now, I think that having such a reliable source of damage against Tomura would still be helpful. That and because I think it would be hilarious to see Tomura try to fight someone only to be shot by Snipe again. And, of course, Mirio would be downright invaluable here and it’s kind of insane that he isn’t here yet, if at all. Not only because of his speed and attack power works really well here, but he has one of the few Quirks capable of countering "Decay".

But here’s how I see the rest of the MHA crew.

Students:

Ayoyama is Yumichika Ayasegawa (You know these two bitches would be spilling tea to each other)

Tokoyami as Sajin Komamura (Yes Animal Heads thye would probably talk about their dark souls),

Shinso is Shuhei Hisagi (These broody emo-twins would be besties)

Mezo Soji is Izuru Kira (Its the hair and the vibe for me),

Koda is Hanataro Yamada (Both nervous Cinnamon rolls that you have to love),

Hanta Sero is Eikichirō Saidō (Loud and make jokes),

Sato is Rin Tsubokura (They love sweets they would be trading recipes immediately)

Monoma is Ōmaeda Clan (Loud obnoxious MFs who can’t STFU)

Chapter Thoughts: 372 — Naked

Dropping this right in the wake of leaks, so let's just go ahead and put this jump here, shall we? (Note: I have seen the leaks, but am opting not to update the post below and its continued kvetching about the story’s messaging via Shouji. There’ll be time for that next week.)

How Shouji and Koda Got Here:

I have a few notes on this, all about the first page.

O A faint “off” panel from a while back is explained! I wrote before about this panel in Chapter 335, and how I thought it foreshadowed Shouji’s involvement in the heteromorph plot and a confrontation with Spinner. I thought at the time that Shouji was just noting that All Might had conspicuously failed to mention the League’s resident heteromorph and was subtly calling it out.

Now, reading between the lines, we get the real explanation: Shouji had already spoken with the heteromorph giantess and found out about the group of heteromorphs planning the attack on the hospital. What he was reacting to in 335 wasn’t the omission of Spinner, but rather the omission of the hospital raid from All Might’s list of what the heroes were up against. Totally still foreshadowing for the heteromorph plotline, though!

(This does make the timing weird, given that we wouldn’t see Spinner sending out the call to action for another five chapters. One does not plan an assault mob fifteen thousand-strong in less than a week, so the groundwork for this would presumably have been going on already, but it is perhaps a touch strange to frame Spinner “pulling the trigger” with a group that very much is not the group he’ll be leading later on, and even stranger to picture that group when talking about early word of the hospital raid.)

O I assume the “troubling things” the giant gal mentioned was her comment that she’d been turned away by numerous shelters because of her heteromorph status, but it still would have been nice to see a reaction from Shouji about that line in the moment. As we can see from the 335 panel, Horikoshi is perfectly capable of putting in little beats like that to come back to later! Shouji’s only appearance in 325, though, was him being offered an umbrella by some other heteromorph—he wasn’t even looking at the giant gal in a way that suggests he was concerned about what she’d said moments before!

(Also, back on this current chapter, rather than the polite Shouji calling her “that large woman,” now would have been a fine time to GIVE HER A DAMN NAME, HORIKOSHI. Especially since All Might following up with, “Oh right, the big lady!” would have been perfectly adequate context for the previously unmentioned name.)

O This feels like a strange matching choice, in ways that I wonder if will prove to be intentional. Like, the two most notable characters in this shot are Katana Advisor from the PLF and the Sludge Villain. Both heteromorphs, to be sure, but neither of them are in the group of heteromorphs going after the hospital? Katana Advisor was in the group of people AFO teleported in to start the battle; he got shoved through a Monoma-giri portal and hasn’t been seen since. The Sludge Villain, meanwhile, is with the group attacking Gigantomachia’s location, which is what the above panel, from 341, suggested to begin with, since the group was clearly converging on the ruins of Jakku, where we’d later learn Machia was being kept restrained in the same place he fell.

If anything, the context of the hospital raid makes this plot beat even weirder in retrospect.

O As I said last week, this sudden Shouji/Koda bond is incredibly strained-feeling. Like, okay, one of the things I’ve long thought about with regard to the student relationships—an observation I originally came to via watching the patterns in what people were shipping—is that, just because some students were together for some early story event or another did not mean that togetherness would translate into a long-term, developed bond. For example, the Tokoyami/Tsuyu ship seemed popular for a while because they were paired up for their finals, but that relationship never got any particular follow-through; compare that to something like the sustained time made for e.g. Kaminari and Jirou.

Students often just got mix-and-matched, especially in the early going, sometimes as a way to establish relationships that would be important going forward, but also sometimes just because that’s the nature of the school setting. Here in the endgame, though, in almost every field of battle, we see the relationships that were built up paying off, while the characters that never really got that foundation are placed somewhere they can nominally contribute without being forced to carry unearned dramatic weight.

Izuku and Kacchan go without saying, of course. Iida and Shouto have been frequently seen together since the Stain arc. Tsuyu and Ochaco have been the two always dealing with Toga, ever since the training camp. Mina and Kirishima are middle school friends, giving them (iirc) the second-most long-term relationship of any of the students other than Deku and Bakugou. Even Jirou and Tokoyami were in the band together, while Aoyama is facing down a specter of AFO’s dark influence, and I’d bet that fight is where the yet-unseen Hagakure will prove to be, building on her and Aoyama’s extremely modest connections surrounding the traitor reveal and their paired combo attack.

Who does that leave? Momo and Kaminari are at UA, with Momo in particular feeling very egregiously sidelined for a student of her ongoing rate of panel time. Mineta is with Kirishima and Mina, and while he doesn’t have much going on with Kirishima, there has been a low-key thread of Mina pepping up Mineta when he’s down (the culture festival when he’s bummed about guitar; the raid when he’s worrying about Midnight). Mineta also faced Machia during the raid and expressed aforementioned fears for Midnight, which makes it fitting to have him defending Machia’s location and seen to face Midnight’s killer.

Sato, Ojiro and Sero, who have neither strong relationships with villains nor with students who do, are tossed off to some stadium at which we haven’t seen a single identifiable villain. They don’t feel unjustly sidelined like Momo and Kaminari because they were never such major characters to begin with. Nor do they feel unduly heavily focused on because the story isn’t trying to use their relationships (or lack thereof) to carry major plot points.

Shouji and Koda, however, feel unduly focused on. To have this opening beat of Koda saying, “If Shouji’s going, then so am I,” needs to have some kind of relationship behind it that was established farther back than a single chapter. There was none, so it just rings hollow.

Shouji feels equally unfitting as a match-up with Spinner because their connection is entirely a matter of shared oppression, not actual encounters, and even the shared oppression connection is flimsy because Spinner has engaged with that oppression, while Shouji’s experience with it was, prior to last month, entirely relegated to character profile pages, not something he ever opened up about.

I wish I could credit this as being really stirring. I mean, Shouji (apparently) became a hero specifically because he wanted to promote a cool, respectable image of heteromorphs, so of course he can’t walk away from a group of heteromorphs pushed to an extreme like this! However, it seems to me that this boils down to yet another instance of the series insisting that only heroes with government licenses and/or teenagers with main character privileges are allowed to step up, while everyone else, no matter what provocation or crisis they’re faced with, is wrong and possibly villainous if they try to do so.

Deku rushes in with no license and no training to help a friend, which would have further complicated rescue efforts if not for All Might’s presence, and might have gotten him killed? Wow, what amazing moral fibre! Truly worthy of inheriting the greatest power of all time!

A member of an oppressed minority takes up arms to help a group that promises to change the violent status quo? They’re being manipulated and used and need to just put their heads back down until someone deigns to come up with a solution for them. Who cares how badly they or their kids might get hurt in the meantime?

Koda's Quirk Awakening, Part Deux:

Setting aside the whole business of Koda’s mother telling him to grow up to be the kind of man who gets mad when people mock the things/people dear to him (dearness cit. Chapter 371), it strikes me as curious that she framed his horns coming in as a natural development, like they’re something he might just mature into like a kitten growing in the patterns on its coat. But him just happening to mature into his horn right at the moment he most needs would be an absurd contrivance, right? Surely this was just a quirk awakening. Dangerous, harsh conditions, high emotions, an urgent circumstantial need for greater power—it fits all the established criteria.

A quirk awakening would fit, too, with Koda’s mother saying his horns might come in some day. If it were a natural development lacking any inciting incident, wouldn’t she have just told him they would come in someday, like hers did, or at least that they probably would?

So if it is a quirk awakening, does that mean that Koda’s mother also had one? That she only described it like some natural possibility because she’s not studied enough on quirks to be familiar with what the MLA term quirk evolution/quirk awakening? That makes far more sense to me, but it does imply that the hardship she delicately phrased as mockery and “real cruelty” was very dire indeed.

Dire enough to make it even more vexing, watching Scarecrow’s fire and brimstone speeches about heteromorph oppression get shut down for the high crime of Calling Shouji Mean Words >:( >:( >:( .

On Protecting:

The yelling about protecting people drives me nuts because it’s so disingenuous not to allow any of the rioters to respond with an answer to the question Shouji poses. He challenges them to think about how their children will be scapegoated as a result of this attack, but neither he nor any of them are allowed to reply that children are already being targeted, today, right now in the present, so what difference will it make to just lay down their arms and go away/get arrested?

Spinner, of course, carries on being unable to respond, because no one is allowed to actually engage with equal rhetoric; the only one who could do so got bird-blitzed off a roof without ever actually losing the battle of words.

And Shouji thinks about Aoyama? For some reason? And I can’t tell if it’s supposed to be because Shouji is thinking about protecting Aoyama (see again: maybe if they’d ever had a single bonding scene ever) or because he’s admiring Aoyama’s will to protect. Which could work some, as Aoyama talked about wanting to pay his blessings forward, but I think “saving” is not quite the same thing as “protecting,”(1) and Aoyama’s desire to be a hero is far more about the former than the latter. It’s just a weird non-sequitur of an inclusion, and irks me in combination with something I’ll talk about in just a bit.

I wish we could get any kind of in on what Shouji really thinks of Spinner. I wish they could have had any encounters before now that would let him contextualize the change between Spinner as Shouji is seeing him and the Spinner the audience knows. Because when Shouji asks Spinner what he wants to protect, that’s a question that does have an answer, but as it is, we’ve got no way to know whether Shouji thinks Spinner has an answer he could give and Shouji wants to hear it, or whether Shouji is implying that Spinner doesn’t have anyone or anything he wants to protect, and that lack of motivation is why he his current actions are meaningless. If Shouji had even an inkling of the truth, that question would feel a lot more resonant.

Spinner’s Call:

O I don’t know how similar the language is in the Japanese, but it’s a bit fun that Spinner’s phrasing of, “The grudge never fades,” is so similar to Dabi’s, “The past never dies.” If one is looking for inspiring words to call for drastic anti-hero action, one could do a lot worse than Dabi (and Skeptic’s) immaculately scripted Todoroki Touya reveal. Spinner also spent a lot of time around Re-Destro and the rest of the MLA, presumably including his own advisors, though, so I like to think he could have picked up some of that convincingly fiery language from them, too, even if he doesn’t think of himself as a good spokesperson.

O Spinner is damn well right when he says(/said) that, if heroes win, nothing will change. And we know that’s true because Deku, Our Main Character Ladies and Gentlemen, just keeps goddamn telling people that he intends to put everything “back to normal.” No one this arc has said a single word about changing anything that desperately needs to be changed, and of all the groups that might be dissuaded by hearing such a stance, this would be the one to try it on! The one that isn’t composed entirely of villains and radical cultists! These are the people most likely to just stop and listen if you tell them that you have a plan to address their grievances.

But Shouji doesn’t tell them that. He tells them that they’ll set back progress, implicitly blaming them for whatever hate crimes heteromorphs suffer in the next thirty years; he doesn’t give them any suggestions for what they could be doing instead, or what heroes will do to respond to them; he just says they have to be the ones to stop. But why should they stop, when horror stories like blood-cleansing are the current status quo? How much worse could the Paranormal Liberation Front’s status quo really be?(2)

(That last question is important, by the way, because AFO was a shadowy urban legend until Kamino, so it’s asking a lot of these civilians, a great many of whom are implied to be rural, for them to have as good an understanding as the audience of what AFO’s new regime would be like.)

O Spinner being sprayed in pesticides impresses me because Horikoshi keeps coming up with ways to be creatively awful to heteromorphs that effortlessly outclass what I come up with for fanfic, and yet he expects me to buy this idea that heteromorphs being cool will eventually solve these problems and it’s fine if heroes and the government continue doing exactly zilch to help the process along.

The Turn:

Having said aaaaaallllll this for three chapters running now, I think it’s very telling that the moment Spinner regurgitates a speech from a week ago, even just reheated rhetoric is enough to rile the crowd right back up again. It would be great if we could read that as a sign that Shouji and Koda’s responses are completely failing to achieve the ends they want because they offer nothing concrete—it’s like the definition of showing up to denigrate everyone else’s plans while offering none of your own. Surprise surprise, No One Liked That.

But then—after an extremely ominous transition featuring a gun—we get into the hospital scene.

(An Aside: The Gun:

Regarding the gun, my initial understanding from the leaks and such was that it was the police resorting to sidearms, but now I don’t think so? The way Officer Gori’s line of dialogue right before the page turn gets abruptly cut off/interrupted implies that this wasn’t something he was expecting. My next guess would be, “Someone on the police side gets scared and takes the wrong action that escalates situation like this into the kinds of historical turning point slaughters that get taught in schools,” but the riot squad uniform seems to feature full gloves, so whereas the shooter’s gloves are fingerless.

Mic’s gloves are right, but why would Mic pull a gun here? When have we ever even been shown him carrying one? I can’t believe he’d even be licensed to carry, not in Japan. And his lines at the end of the chapter, for all that he shows up in the hallway like a movie killer, suggests that he’s just guessing about why no one’s following Spinner, not deliberately obfuscating.

So who? My next wild thought was, “Mustard?!” but the gloves are wrong for him, too. He might have changed gloves if he got sprung from whatever facility he was in, of course, as all our returning villains have changed clothes, but also there’s no reason whatsoever for him to be present here, at least as far as plotlines he has any reason to care about personally go.

So… I dunno. We’ll see, I guess! Not least because leaks are starting literally as I write the section RIP.)

As @codenamesazanka pointed out here, Spinner did not target the line of doctors and nurses. Which makes it all the stranger that seeing those medical professionals is what snapped the crowd out of it. Like, if the targeted area wasn’t on the other side of a Red Rover line of civilians anyway, who cares if they’re all standing there? And here’s where I circle back to the Aoyama non-sequitur.

The pig-nosed guy draws to a halt when he sees the line of doctors, but what really stops him cold is some sort of flashback to Dr. Toad looking after an elderly patient. And my overwhelming thought when I saw that panel was, “So even in the flashback that’s going to stop you from progressing, you can’t see yourself in the person being cared for; you have to see yourself in the person doing the work.”

Central Hospital is staffed with Super Mario character lookalikes, but you know who one of those lookalikes is? The one who looks like Mario—that is, the one with a “human face.” So why, in heaven’s name why, could pig-nosed guy not have visualized himself or someone like him—a heteromorph—being cared for and tended to by a non-heteromorph? If the entire point is to remind an angry person who has let nuance fall by the wayside, someone whose pain has caused him to get sucked into an us-versus-them mindset, that there are good people on the other side of that divide, people who don’t hate pig-nose and his, why would the memory that brings him up short be one where a heteromorph is doing the labor while a non-heteromorph benefits?

It just makes me Real Tired, guys.

Spinner, Oh, Spinner:

The young version of Spinner running around in his socks hurts me so much. The shot of the desolate hallway behind him hurts me even more. The underlining of his empty path, the empty place it leads to, is heartbreaking. But I can’t believe that Horikoshi would let someone trying his best to be someone else’s hero fail like this, no matter how much All For One has tried to twist that desire.

Sorry, I just have nothing coherent or insightful to say about Spinner. Not until this agonizing subplot resolves one way or the other.

(In light of leaks, I mostly have a lot of screaming and crying, and will try to finally muster up some actual Spinner Thoughts next time. Beyond which we’ll see how things go after next next chapter. *biting handkerchief in anxiety*)

O I enjoy Aizawa’s extremely alarmed face when Shouji’s like, “Hey, put me on the hospital defense team.”

O The number one bit character hero I want dead: THIS Tartarus guard-looking, infinite goddamn capture tape-producing asshole:

Fucking hell. Take this guy out and the next uprising will be a breeze because the heroes will suddenly have to face their terminal shortage of restraining devices!

O “Shouji must have gotten through to them.” = Since fucking when does this manga believe that words are enough? I thought it was actions that mattered? Oh, right, since we hit the endgame. See also Mirio’s talking-the-talk bit.

1: I’d probably distinguish them by saying that saving is more active but also briefer; it’s All Might turning up in the nick of time and then flying off again once the crisis is passed. Protecting is more about putting yourself between danger and those that are in danger, and then staying there no matter what. To protect someone is to be there regardless of whether or not the danger is immediate. Deku wants to “save” Shigaraki, not “protect” him. The refugees at UA need to be “protected,” not “saved.”

Yo! We're getting closer and closer to the finals. This chapter is a montage/time skip of sorts going through the rest of the consultations. There is also a Katsuki pov at the end that is kind of in the middle of Izuku's pov. For an update on explody boy.

I more was thinking they wouldn't have done that 'off screen' but I added a small part anyway. :) You can read it if you would like, but basically Aizawa agrees to Maijima and him being the ones to talk to Katsuki but not keeping the fact that the info is from Izuku a secret. And there you have it! Everyone in the first year has more or less been talked to and certain issues addressed! If you have any other things that bother you in canon, let me know! I don't guarantee I'll do everything because there's only so much you can do. ;) Also, for some of these characters, I did rely on support items they already had by the time of the joint training arc. At least to get something for each and every one of them.

I don't have everyone immediately accepting Izuku's thoughts. Some need to think about it and then there's Aoyama. I see him as a 'lead a horse to water but can't make them drink' situation. Willing to listen to Izuku but not necessarily take his advise. Now for things going on in canon, I have my own ideas of what to do and will not confirm or deny things until it comes time to post that part. ;) 'Cause suspense and no spoilers. But by all means speculate all you want. :P

So Kouda. Now I have an idea for an animal companion for him and those on the discord may recall that brainstorm. But I'm open to what others think! Seriously, the boy needs a zoo. Give him all the animal friends!

Sh-sh-shout out to Divergent and Bigsmile on the discord for logicking (I know that's not a real word. :P) out that Katsuki could secrete explosive sweat all over body, but the ignition spot is just his hands. The suit is sort of Dune inspired collecting liquid from all over his body and could work to replace the storage tanks. It could also automatically fill the smaller grenades instead of manually adding cartridges with is an unnecessary extra step. I don't have an exact design for the gauntlets in mind but just slimmer than they are in canon so Katsuki can actually use his arms.

Sh-sh-shout out to Coup on the discord for being the science friend when it comes to Kodai’s quirk. The whole affecting size but not weight or mass or whatever. It was a bit ago and I don't remember all of it. :P If I got anything wrong, this part or otherwise, I apologize and please let me know. ^____^ I am no expert and am relying on others and the internet.

The transcripts Monoma mentions are in part 2 chapter 12! Also, I had fun having them interact again. I want them to be friends! Though there will be bumps because of their personalities. ;) First name basis though!

For redesigns that I actually took the time to sketch out, we have Tokoyami and Hitoshi! Coup had some points when it came to Hitoshi's helmet to make it more comfortable but I was too lazy to redraw things. :P It's good enough to get you a general idea though! Izuku's new helmet design to be revealed at a later time. ;)

That's all for now! Next chapter isn't finals quite yet. We have the whole robots convo to get through and other things that are not from canon. There will be more from Katsuki next update too.

Triggered Awakening World Notes, etc.

This was the 'final' version of the world map (sorry my handwriting is so messy here; and yes, this is a really ugly 'map', I know - I just needed a simple version to visualize where stuff was, etc.) although there were still changes to who was where. But the locations were set. This was completely based off of the typical 'Zelda' map/ domains (though, that's probably really obvious).

Additional Notes/ changes (major spoilers for the main fic):

.All the locations are (as can be seen on the map) the romaji versions of Japanese words, descriptions, and verbs. Because I have no imagination when it comes to naming places.

. Best Jeanist was supposed to be the 2nd Champion (in Shuurai/ snowy mountains) but was switched with Ryuku. He was also supposed to have a minor 'mentor' role with Bakugou here (to match the manga) but Denki's character ended up being the focus.

. I'm pretty sure originally I had the group meeting FatGum before he died; that changed

.There was a brief time when Ochako was going to get her quirk

. It might be hard to believe, but there was a lot more minor/side character death planned (Tokoyami, Toru, Amajiki - for example). Yeah, I was in a not-bright place when I started the outline. The beginning of the fic kind of shows that I think (with Shoji in particular).

.Eri! Eri was originally at U.A. and the source of the time-freezing barrier. And it was 70-30 if she faded away after the barrier fell or lived and stayed with the group. I also thought about bringing Chisaki as an opponent near All Might's sword but once Eri was scrapped there was no need for him. So the pro-hero Guardian was created (a bit last minute, actually) and Iida was the main enemy.

. All Might and Toshinori were separate characters.

.The battle at Housou was supposed to be a high point for the group, showing how they could work together.

. Bakugou being stabbed by Himiko - I knew I wanted Bk to get hurt protecting Deku somehow and lead to U.A. (both as a parallel to Link taking a hit for Zelda in BotW (when she activated her powers for the first time - this was also back when Deku did have a quick and it would have been activated then) and to the war in the manga with Shigaraki stabbing BK) but where, when, and how just kinda... happened

.Shigaraki wasn't planned to be taken over by AfO. He was also never planned to have the slight heel-face turn at the end.

.Trigger Jewels were originally going to shatter upon use, not 'melt'/ merge into the person

.The Trigger Jewels were always based on the manga's Trigger drug. And the 'Old World' was always planned to be the 'modern' BNHA universe, but the timeline and how the original All Might + Champions vs. AfO, how many trigger jewels, etc. - basically how the background came together as one thing was a mess.

.So much with Momo. She was always a main character, but lots of her scenes weren't outlined in detail.

.One or two flashbacks to the strain between Izuku and his mother were taken out. Those might end up in SoC.

.Mei was just going to be a researcher at Kakure and not mentioned more than that.

.Kendo and Monoma - not planned at all. When I realized I needed some researchers... basically I just picked two characters who hadn't been used yet and ta-da.

.Another unexpected character was Magne. She was only supposed to be a generic member of the League (like in the manga) that was one of multiple members who kidnapped people for the experiments - really, she was picked because I'd used up the other members (Compress was the one who pretended to be a guard and almost stole the Musutafu's trigger jewel eight yrs before the rest of the story). Every scene past that one mention of her being the one to kidnap Tokoyami wasn't planned, never mind her 'mentor' relationship with Ochako and Himiko. But she ended up becoming a proxy? (that's probably not the right word) for how people in the league weren't ' pure evil'. Spinner, on the other hand, was planned to have a bigger role.

.Nomu - all were either based off manga ones (the winged one in Ippin) or were other characters (Kamui Woods, Death Arms, Setsuna (1B), vine girl from 1B, Power Loader, Mineta... more that I can't remember off the top of my head) so I could use their quirks. If a character (especially class 1B) didn't come up in the story, there's a high chance they were one of the 'failure' experiments. I'm annoyed I forgot about Edgeshot. There was one exception that was just a generic, but that's it (the female one in the castle attack).

.Nejire's fight with the Death Arms Nomu (and the resulting team-up with Shouto). Unplanned.

.Fuyumi wasn't going to have such a big role. Instead, she became... not a main character exactly, but she definitely got her own unplanned arc

.Hawks was supposed to do more. But I guess moving in the background actually suits him.

.Jiro was going to have her Quirk.

.There were two 'endings' regarding quirks after the final battle. One was that the main characters all permanently lost their quirks (and the remaining shards in the world would have broken so no more quirks for anyone after a while). The second was that everyone in the world was exposed to Trigger from the impact of the fight, so quirks would then be mostly universal in the future. I ended up going with the main characters still having their quirks, but much, much weaker versions, and... how that affected the rest of the population is still undecided (leaning more towards option 2).

.BK and Dk's misunderstandings... by arceus, those two could be a pain in the ass to write and figure out. I was always worried that their conflicts would seem too scripted or silly.

.Himiko and Jin surviving

.Ocahko was originally going to be part of the group again before the final fight (or maybe have not left in the first place), but by then she was in Houseki, and DK and the others wouldn't have trusted her anyway.

.How dark the first half of the final battle ended up. That was... yeah. I almost changed the rating to M for violence with that chapter (though, given some of the current shit in the manga it wasn't that much worse)

.The final battle was going to just be Deku vs. Shigaraki but after seeing Dk & BK team up in Heroes Rising, I changed stuff so they were fighting together.

. The length. This came up in the chapter notes all the damn time because IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE 40 FUCKING CHAPTERS AND 309K WORDS

Technically, I'm keeping the series open because 1 - I have a very tiny number of possible ideas for a sequel, and 2 - Snippets of Consciousness is still ongoing. The latter though is going to be very, very slow on updates. It's a combination of being a bit burned out with the AU, having other projects that I'm more excited about, and (I know this sounds bad) a lack of interest from outside. But I do have a list of chapters for SoC.... someday.

End thoughts? I'd never written something this long or complicated before. Never did this much work on outlining a story. And there were lots of times I was tempted to just say 'fuck it!' and give up. But I'm glad that I finished it and overall... I think I'm pretty happy with how the work turned out.

Over on my main I have this shipping chart that I made last year that goes over a lot of the main cast's dynamics in my mind. It's a little out dated though so I'm excited to talk about it again

I am once again showing my entire ass here as when a fandom has a lot of characters I tend to pick my favorite and ship them with everyone, and said favorite for MHA is my wonderful son Neito Monoma

Right off the bat my absolute favorite is Monoma/Ojiro/Shinso. I'm fully obsessed with them, the ABC of polycules I adore

I was super attached to Monoma/Aoyama for a while there as well, just for the French Fan vibes of it

Monoma/Izuku is solid, cute, possibility for fluff

Momona/Bakugo is better, rougher, harsher, cannot stop being mean to eachother for a second

My boyfriend has shown me the light that is Monoma/Kirishima and I refuse to elaborate but it's god tier

I saw Monoma/Iida exactly once and I've never recovered they do not mesh well but I think it'd be funny

Monoma/Sero is just a one sided crush I thought about for a while when Monoma was speaking in my headspace at all times

Monoma/Honenuki is very good, the no energy and too much energy

Never minded Monoma/Kendo, especially as queerplatonics

Monoma/Tetsutetsu, smartass and his enabler himbo

Monoma/Mirio is funny to me because Mirio is so so SO mean to Monoma for no reason and I think Monoma really looks up to Mirio

Monoma/Mei queerplatonics in a very Aro way

Monoma/Kuroiro feels very age regresser and carer to me and I'm never letting it go, little baby Kuroiro

Iida/Mei but Mei is aromantic and Iida did not consent to being her boyfriend but he is

Iida/Ochaco was my first My Hero Ship believe it or not he’s got the money she wants and also respects her so much and also the Bi/Pan energy of the two of them. Solid.

Same vein quickly fell for Ochaco/Bakugo?? He respects her, sees her as an equal, and she honestly almost has him. I think she could kick his ass and he is really in to that.

Uraraka/Toga is *Chefs kiss* obsessive girlfriend, unhinged, cat like relationship. Babe what's in your MOUTH

Kirishima and Mina dated in middle school

Todoroki/Inasa is something I post about often I adore them so much the height different the Very Much that is Inasa and chill that is Shoto

But also Shoto/Inasa/Tenya is very very very solid two wide chest loud autistics and their scrawny quiet boyfriend and they all kiss

Alone in this one but I think Koda/Shoji is really really cute they both give the best hugs in the class and should hug more often

Tokoyami/Aoyama is 10/10 raven and love for shiny things cute. Include Dark Shadow as her own person and make it a polycule

Kuroiro/Tokoyami darkness on darkness edgy teens role playing a darker tale in the darkness. I love them. Kuroiro very certainly has a crush on Tokoyami

Even better tho Kuroiro/Komori?? He has such a crush on her he is so quiet she has been talking about mushrooms for 43 minutes and he has heard every word and loves her. "Excuse me. He asked for no pickles"

Kendo/Tetsu is very "THAT'S MY WIFE!!!!!" energy and that's my favorite kind of male energy. What a himbo

Tamaki/Mirio/Nejire/Yuyu 3rd year polycule is everything to me. Tamaki can and will swear but only when Nejire is pissing him off on purpose

I am not immune to Aizawa/Hizashi friends to lovers to old married couple propaganda.

Same vein is Vlad/Houndog tho as they are the exact same situation same age same time period just class B flavored

One more then would be the wlw flavored version which is Midnight/Ms. Joke. Love them.

While we're talking about UA Alumni; Tensei and Koichi had like. A thing. He flirted mega hard core with him in Vigilantes and I think they made out real hard

Toshinori/David as well had something going on in collage and certainly still have feelings for one another and I love that for them

All Might/Sir Nighteye as well. Had a thing, broke up, was still in love with him till the very end

Every once in a while I get a glimpse at the glory that is All Might/Fatgum and I simply must admire it. Just sweet yellow heroes being sweet. Self ship polycule possibilities

Fatgum/Rappa is FANtastic and should be around more honestly. The obsession. The roughness. The big boyfriend possibilities. More self ship polycule thoughts all the time

Toga/Twice isn't one I talk about often but the vibes are so there. He loves her so much he can barely stand it

Gentle/LaBrava was so very much my gender I'm so incredibly in love with them I hope they get married by the end of the series

Compress/Gentle queerplatonics

Kurogiri/Compress has grown on me in fandom only

Twice/Compress is ideal mostly because self ship polycule reasons

Tomura/Suichi is the peak of Shigiraki ships for me. They are gamer boyfriends. They are a boss and his right hand. They are against the world together.

Shigiraki/Dabi/Hawks was something I was following for a while and it's faded in and out sense Twice's death

Hawks/Endeavor is the same kind of thing, a friend got me into it with his self ship dynamic but sense he's stopped talking about it I've been back and forth on it. Homewrecker slut Hawks is funny tho

Tomura/Izuku is very very good in my opinion especially villain Izuku raised by OFA along side Tomura like brothers?? Lovely. Canon's good too don't get me wrong. I just love them as bros raised to replace AFO's brother. Parallels

Speaking off All For One/Yoichi is my brainrot. Love a brother who's so obsessed with his brother he'd do anything to bring him back over and over and over again. He's off his rocker. I love it

Any combination of AFO/All Might, AFO/Izuku, or AFO/Tomura all hit the above for me perfectly and I adore it to no end

Exact opposite energy is Toshinori/Izuku which I think is sweet and cute at times

Toshinori/Bakugo tho is PEAK. Bakugo AGGRESSIVELY taking care of All Might because the old fool won’t take care of himself. Serious Tsundere action. “Young Bakugo”. I think they’re sweet and love a chance to housewife Katsuki Bakugo

I could be convinced to get on the Rody/Izuku train, purely by my nephew who saw the movie with me and was concerned Izuku was going to cheat on Bakugo with Rody.

content warning: mentions of blood and death, because y’know.. zombies and zombie bites, swearing, everyone kinda beefs with bakugou because he’s thinking of the group’s safety, and bakugou’s thinking of Y/N’s who is bitten in his scenario lmao.

note(s): zombie apocalypse au— in which you get bit and your crush is heavily convinced that you won’t turn 😻 i fused the happiness and all of us are dead zombie virus together. basically, “zombies but not really zombies” exist here, and the zombies act like the AOUAD zombies, but they can be cured 🤩 it’s just gonna take a long ass time… oh, and class 1-A got split into two 💀 and they also mixed with class 1-B

bakugou katsuki

bakugou examines your hand again, red irises scanning over the teeth marks imprinted onto the flesh of your hand, while crimson slowly leaked from the bite mark.

bakugou clicks his tongue.

his vibrant red haired friend eyes him antsy, and approaches him in a slow and cautious manner, like his friend would run off at the slightest creak of the floor. he puts his hand on his shoulder, “bakugou—”

“no.” the emphasis on the word causes his friend to pause, and the blond takes this as an opening to shove his hand off, “whatever’s you’re gonna say is probably fucking bullshit.”

“bakugou, this is really hard to say but they—”

“no they won’t.” he cuts his friend off, before he could even finish his sentence. he didn’t have to, for bakugou to immediately recognize what he was about to say.

“i mean, i p—probably will,” you say with a wince, staring down at your wound anxiously. your hand throbs with pain.

you then look at the floor, not wanting to meet the eyes of your classmates and friends— who are very cautious of your presence as a whole. “everyone who’s gotten bit turned.”

you ruefully recall the sight of a business course student twitching and writhing, limbs making loud cracking noises, and groaning so hoarsely— before morphing into a completely new being seconds later.

you let out a shaky sigh, making a move to walk towards the locked door. maybe if you’re quick enough, you could slip out of the room without letting a single zombie in. “i’m not safe, bakugou. i could hurt, maybe even infect other people when i turn—”

“stop saying that— stop saying that load of crap!” you hear a few loud footsteps before a warm hand harshly jerks you back, and away from the door, “then tell me, why do you look fine? why do you not look like shit?”

you laugh humorlessly, unable to find it in yourself to even look at him— not even his shoes, or spiky blond hair. “i’m honestly flattered that you think my appearance looks fine despite the world’s conditions.”

“don’t give me that shit, and just answer the question.” his eyes narrow into a glare, his hand still gripping your wrist firmly. he secretly took note to grab at your opposing wrist— the wrist that didn’t have the bitten hand attached to it.

“some people turn in seconds, and some turn in minutes. if they’re lucky, they’ll turn in hours.” tokoyami notes from the sidelines. you silently thank him for answering in your place— because honestly? you don’t know why you haven’t turned yet.

“but they’re still going to turn,” monoma cuts in, “and we can either force them out, or they leave by themselves—”

bakugou frees your wrist, and suddenly— everyone can hear the pop of bakugou’s palms, the smell of nitroglycerin. you think it’ll be the last time you’ll get a smell of it.

“monoma!” kirishima chastised, before holding bakugou back with an arm, as he anticipated his friend’s lunge at the 1-B student.

the red head— and practically everyone who knows you was growing agitated, whatever attitude monoma had against class 1-A was everything but acknowledged, yet his words did everything to be ingrained in his peers’ minds.

midoriya, his green haired friend, decides it’s time to insert himself into the conversation. he approaches his childhood friend quickly, but ultimately brings up the topic cautiously— in a manner that’s similar to kirishima’s prior caution.

“kacchan,” midoriya starts, “i— we don’t want to do that, we don’t want to do anything to L/N, and we’re not giving up on them. they’re our friend but just, just make some distance.”

“we’re not going to.. kill them either,” todoroki adds on, “if that’s what you think. i don’t think anyone wants to do that to someone.”

bakugou said nothing, which was a lot worse than him screaming at everyone in the room— so loud, everyone would hear him and his echo for days.

bakugou pushed you behind him, his sharp eyes still staring ahead of him. he thinks to himself of how hypocritical he’s being right now, and at the very end— his previous behavior was coming back to haunt him.

it would be karma, if it was him in your shoes, but it’s not.

“katsuki, stop it.” he doesn’t have enough time to let the use of his first name sink in fully, and with enough force, you break free from his grasp. “look,” you look down at your hand, which is starting to twitch oddly. it feels strange. you’ve had a handful of injuries, ever since you came to UA, but you haven’t felt anything like this before.

you try not to cringe at the sound of cracking bones coming from only yourself, and yourself alone.

his expression falls at the sight, and maybe even his heart too. it feels like it dropped to the lowest pit of his stomach, yet for some reason— he can feel a twinge of pain residing in his chest.

“you can’t fucking be serious right now.”

“i’m sorry,” you say, and it feels like you’re completely giving up to the virus, “i tried. i’ll— i’ll see you guys again, when a cure is made— what? that sounds so corny, ew.”

bakugou only laughs bitterly.

your hand doesn’t stop twitching, and suddenly— it feels like your vision’s turned into a tunnel, the sides of you turning blurry, and the center going oddly sharp— you see a film of red.

you close your eyes to focus on breathing, your surroundings suddenly going quiet, and your body feeling strange— strange, but calm.

a second passes, and then another.

you take another breath. your mouth’s starting to water, and you suddenly feel hungry.

—and then you don’t turn.

you open your eyes, and you realized that the twitch of your hands came to a full stop, the hunger from within you mellowing down. you look at your friends— confusion, and.. relief? written all over their faces, “it just.. stopped? i don’t know what happened. did i just get edged?”

you hear a few footsteps, before the same hand— the same, warm hand as earlier, takes a hold of your wrist.

katsuki laughs, “i told you you weren’t going t’ turn. should’ve listened.”

todoroki shouto

not wanting to think of the inevitable zoom that is turning into a zombie, you lift your leg to examine the teeth marks laid decorating your skin.

to not your surprise, it hasn’t gotten better, but to your surprise— it hasn’t gotten worse. you don’t know what to think of this, and you’re unsure of how the others take this as.

blood continues to leak out of the mark, and the edge of your sock starts to soak in it. you turn your head away to grimace, your expression crinkled with pure dismay.

this doesn’t seem to fly under the radar, and before you can think of the situation’s severity even more, shouto calls out to you— the smoothness of his deep voice relaxing you, even if it’s only slightly.

“does it still hurt?” your gaze meets the eyes of shouto— your classmate, close friend and crush.

(you wonder if you’ll ever get the chance to tell him everything you want.)

“no, no that much anymore.” you deny, but your tone betrays you. shouto seems to recognize your pain, even before you can properly inform him of it.

without a single warning, shouto gets in front of you, and kneels. with his left, he grabs ahold of your hand to place it atop his head, and with his right, he examines your calve with attention. you try not to think of the coolness radiating from his touch.

“you should tell me when it hurts.”

you don’t give a verbal answer to that. what would be the point of that, again? pain or not.. you’ll turn into a zombie either way, won’t you?

you can feel another pair of eyes on the two of you. then, in a second— bakugou’s rushing over in your direction, palms popping with explosions— the smell of nitroglycerin invading your senses.

you feel a cool, but gentle brisk along the hand that’s resting on top of shouto’s head, and you suddenly see someone step in front of you. that someone, who you’ve quickly come to realize is shouto himself.

“back off.” he says so sharply— so coldly, you can actually feel the room’s temperature drop by just a tiny bit. you’re sincerely glad that you’re not at the receiving end of his words, “they’re not one of them.”

“t—todoroki! they need to go!” mineta fearfully calls out, tiny body trembling in place. “they’re.. they’re… y’know!—”

“i can see that.”

“so what then, icyhot? you know wh—”

“i know what could happen, but it’s not going to happen. they’re not going to turn—”

“i’m still fucking talking, asshole. you know exactly what’s going to happen! everyone who’s gotten bitten, grazed, and even had blood splattered in their fucking eyes turned into one of them,”

bakugou’s palms crack with mini explosions, and despite that— shouto stays firmly in place, and in front of you. “so tell me, fucking asshat. what are the chances of them not turning into a fuckin’ zombie? oh right, zero!”

bakugou then makes a move to grab at you, but todoroki’s the first to stop him— with a harsh grab at the collar “don’t touch them.”

your friends around you make sounds of disapproval, and they all make a point to quickly take a few steps forward— as much as their caution allows them to do.

bakugou spat back, his temperament now spiraling out of control “literally screw you, you idiotic piece of turd, you’re—”

“okay, now that’s just absurd,” you remark loudly, enough to make the room go quiet. “todoroki, everyone’s just scared. even the ones that don’t say anything about it.”

bakugou opens his mouth, but you’re quicker to cut in, “you’re not scared? well fine! you’re cautious, that’s one thing for sure. but everyone’s worried about the safety of themselves, and their group— and i don’t blame them one bit! turning into one of them,” you take a look at the actively scratching, and rabid zombies, “doesn’t look appealing, at all.”

todoroki then takes your hand into his own, intertwining his slightly cool fingers with yours, and pushes you to his side. he starts to takes a few steps back— and it doesn’t take long before the two of you are pressed against the pane of the window.

opening the window, you look at todoroki— who’s now slowly shaking his head, like he can tell what you’re about to do. the implications of your actions making things look obvious, but todoroki doesn’t dare to accept.

“todoroki, i hope you know..”

you gulp, trying to push down the growing lump in your throat. “i hope you know that you’re the prettiest person i’ve ever seen. so, d—don’t you dare think otherwise. i’ll literally bite your ass if i hear about it as a zombie. i swear i will. so… don’t, if you wanna stay safe.”

todoroki goes quiet, and you just wished he laughed. “p—please laugh. don’t leave me hanging.”

todoroki gives you a small, sad smile. it doesn’t feel as satisfying as you thought it would be— being one of the few people to make him smile.

he says your name in a hushed tone, like the sound’s reserved for your ears only. “you’re going to be fine, you’re going to be okay.”

you don’t say anything to that.

it happens like a slow rise of the sun. your fingers start twitching next— and you try and make an effort to push shouto away from you. he doesn’t budge.

you feel yourself twitch again. you can hear the sudden crack of your fingers. strangely enough, nothing’s too painful anymore, and the room so quiet— you can almost hear your ears ring.

you turn your head away, knowing how odd this might look. you can feel something foreign build from within, and you can even hear voices that you’re sure aren’t there— telling you to eat.

you close your eyes, just about ready to fling yourself out the window.

you feel todoroki’s firm grip first, as he gently caresses the back of your hand.

you open your eyes, and you suddenly have the urge to bite someone— bite todoroki. you’re about to pull todoroki even closer to you, almost ignoring the exclaims of your friends, and the sound of several people rushing over to todoroki’s defense.

almost.

you resist last second, and try to push him away, but shouto pulls you into his arms, and turns his back away— essentially, shielding you from whatever.

you pant, not understanding what just happened, and why you didn’t turn.

but your confusion is pushed to the side in a second, when your gaze locks with shouto’s bi-colored eyes— which are swarmed with relief, you’d hope. (it is what you hope)

“you’re okay, you’re okay.”

and this time, you might just believe him.

midoriya izuku

you feel weight being shoved off of you, and before you come to register it— you see a flash of green lightning, and then midoriya, who is slightly out of breath, and classically worried.

his evergreen eyes scan all over your face, and then everywhere else, in search of anything that indicated you being hurt.

you feel your stomach being tickled with nervousness. it feels like you’re shrinking under his stare— which, was something you never felt with him in particular.

he seems to realize what happened before you even inform him, his eyes going wide at the sight of imbedded teeth marks along the skin, and flesh of your shoulder.

it’s really like something in him cracked, and then bursted into millions of pieces all at once, ever so quickly.

he lets out a tiny whimper, and he falls to his knees seconds later. he looks at you with big, rounded, and glassy eyes.

you can see crystalline droplets rimming the corners of his eyes, and you can feel your heart clench. “i’m sorry, i’m so sorry,” you don’t know why, but he’s apologizing— apologizing over and over again, like he’s the one that did this to you.

of course, he didn’t do this to you— how could he, really? but again, it’s midoriya izuku, your selfless and sweet classmate that you ever so adore, that just can’t seem to not blame himself during situations such as this.

“why are you apologizing?” you try to ask as nonchalantly as possible— but it comes out as weak. you stare

midoriya’s now reaching for something in his pocket, the flow of his tears not stopping. “i’m.. sorry for b—being so emotional, i’m not usually like this anymore, i swear. and i’m sorry for apologizing for being sorry—”

“midoriya!” you call out, interrupting his word ramble. he goes quiet— in favor of hearing what you have to say, instead of hearing his own rambling. “i told you to not apologize for stuff like that. you’re okay. you’re fine. got that?”

there’s a sniffle, and then midoriya’s nodding. “you’re okay, you’re okay too. i’m— i’m here, i’ll be here.” he whispers, while he wipes some blood off of your cheek with his thumb.

he isn’t sure if he’s telling you that, or himself.

before midoriya can help you up himself, kirishima runs over to you, and helps you up to your feet.

kirishima gives you a toothy smile, “are you alright, L/N?” he then registers midoriya’s tear stricken face. there wasn’t enough time for him to turn his face away, or even brush his question off casually.

“wait— midoriya, why are you crying?” there’s a pause, when his smile falls, and his eyes widen with realization— you’d figure. his sight is fixated on your shoulder, “midoriya, they.. look!”

“i— i know, kirishima.” midoriya sniffles, wiping his tear streaked face with the inside of his left sleeve, which is surprisingly spotless in comparison to the cuffs of his pants, and his right sleeve.

kirishima, and sero help him up to his feet as well, “dude.. i— i don’t know what to say.” sero says, disbelieving. they both look at you, corners of his mouth tilting downwards into a frown.

you hope you’re not being pitied, but even if you were, you wouldn’t be mad at him. considering how almost everyone in the room has seen what the virus could do to someone in just a few seconds, minutes and if you were lucky enough— days.

bakugou, seeing the ruckus, and hearing bits of the conversation without much context— trudges in your direction. his eyes narrow in a glare, trying to analyze what’s even going on there.

it’s quick, but with sharp and attentive eyes, bakugou sees the topic of the ruckus.

“deku.”

“kacchan,” midoriya starts, “i know what you’re thinking, but don’t. don’t say it.”

the blond only shakes his head. bakugou places his hand on the shorter’s shoulder, and he pulls his green haired friend away from you— with caution, like you’re somebody, something that’s going to hurt him.

“deku.” bakugou tries again, “you need to back off— they can turn any moment now.”

midoriya sees red for a second.

he brushes his friend’s hand off— forcefully. it’s something he hasn’t exactly done before. at least, in a situation that actively posed a danger to him, and other people.

his voice comes out a lot more serious than expected, and you’re so caught off guard— you almost forget about the deep bite mark on your shoulder, which is now leaking with crimson. “i told you ‘don’t’, kacchan. they’re not one of them, and they won’t be one of them, so don’t— don’t you dare say that.”

bakugou stares in disbelief. he starts to laugh, unbelieving of what just happened in front of him. “i can’t believe you.”

midoriya only stares in question, breath now growing ragged with frustration, and disbelief of his own.

“out of all the years i’ve fuckin’ known you, i have yet to get a reaction outta you like this one.”

he takes a step closer. this is starting to alarm surrounding friends— for multiple different reasons, one of them being the group of sound sensitive zombies, that have pits for stomachs, and everlasting appetites.

“bakugou, calm down—” todoroki says, in an attempt of intervention, but it’s proven unsuccessful

“stay the fuck out of this,” he heatedly warns, with his attention being all on the green haired hero-to-be, “you know what happens when you get bit, especially with a bite mark like that,” he makes an emphasis, by looking back at you.

you feel your friends’ eyes on you. you only look down— eyes finding interest in the floor.

(your attention snaps to the sudden twitch of your fingers. a feeling of doom settles in your stomach.)

“i thought you were fucking smart, deku. say whatever you fucking want, and sorry to break it to you, but you aren’t acting like yourself, believe it or not—”

“i know!” midoriya exclaims, those crystalline tears forming in his eyes once more.

he back away from the blond— moving away to stand closely in front of you in a protective stance. “i know— i know what could happen, but— i don’t want to think of it, so let me be!”

(midoriya remembers why he considered himself to be unlucky at some point in his life.)

“is it wrong? is it wrong for me to not?” midoriya practically weeps— weeps for you, and everything that’s gone horribly wrong, “you can say whatever too, kacchan— but they, they were one of the first people to believe in me.”

you feel a pang in your heart.

“is it wrong for me to believe in them too? believe that they’re strong enough, and won’t turn into one of them?”

and almost instantly, bakugou’s expression softens— even if it’s just by a small percentage.

“look,” bakugou starts, “i’m— i’m sorry,” he apologizes soft toned, and midoriya has to blink a few times to register it. he’s been apologizing a lot more, lately— at least more than the past, but that doesn’t mean he fully anticipated it, nor does he know what to do.

but in a second, his tone snaps back to normal. “i honestly don’t really care whatever the fuck’s going between you two,” he does— if it would tell him why midoriya “deku” izuku’s acting like this, “but i’m.. sure you know what happens.”

“and none of us get a kick out of well, kicking out people.” bakugou pauses for a second, staring at the two of you standing so closely together.

“but you know what’s gotta happen.”

“i do— just,” midoriya sniffles, getting even closer to you. he then takes your hand in his— scars and callouses comforting against your skin. “don’t— don’t touch them.”

having had your moment of silence, you pull midoriya along with you, ignoring the slight twitch of your finger. you’ve been staring at it for enough.

you stand in front of the window, “midoriya.”

“you gotta push me out of this window when i turn, okay?” you feel his grip your hand a little tighter. you just wish it wouldn’t be the last time you held his hand— even if he fussed about his callouses, or grew red, and heated at sudden movements. “just think of it as a training exercise. you throw classmates out of windows all the time.”

midoriya shakes his head, “stop. don’t say things like that.”

you can hear bones crack, and your sight going.. different.

“you won’t turn,”

you can feel your own heart beat slowing down, and it feels like everything’s gone deaf on your words.

yet for some reason, you can make out what midoriya’s saying— maybe it’s because you’re affixed on his lips for some reason you hope isn’t related to your bite.

“you can do it. you won’t turn, you won’t.”

you smell something delicious, and you close your eyes— feeling your shoulder twitch oddly.

you straighten your back, in retaliation to that odd twitch— preparing yourself to give midoriya a head start, and push yourself just half way out of the window.

but, you can’t do it.

you can’t do it— because you don’t turn.

you stare at everyone, suddenly feeling weird, confused— even a little awkward, as you didn’t turn into a zombie for reasons nobody knows.

then, you hear sighs of relief— and you feel tears soak into the fabric of your bloodied blazer.

you find the source of said tears, and you find yourself staring in surprise— as izuku cries, sobs, and gasps in relief. (you’d sincerely hope that was the case, and you weren’t just scaring the poor dude.)

“thank— thank goodness.”

Monoma x Reader

The first time you encountered Monoma was on your first day of class.

You had been accepted but due to some complications and being an exchange student, you ended up going to U.A. much later into the year than expected.

On top of that, you were running very late. While running, you ended up crashing into someone else. Yes, it was Monoma and yes I know what all of you are thinking: "typical encounter, where both characters crash and they see into each other's eyes and fall in love at first sight." Well, I can assure you that that is neither here nor there.

You crashed and hate bloomed. Plus it didn't help you were part of class 1A.

Whenever Monoma saw you, he would laugh at your height, your (language name's) accent, your every move, every action.

Quite frankly it was exhausting. It also didn't help that you were hot-headed, sarcastic, and could easily trash-talk Monoma and class 1B just as hard as he did.

The hate was so bad, that it actually became a problem for all students and teachers.

That's when principal Nezu decided to do the most inhuman thing anyone could do. He paired you up together for the rest of the school year. He also decided to put you two together inside a roor for like 6 hours. So you could let it all out.

Most teachers were against it, thinking nothing good would come from it, but the principal insisted, believing you and Monoma would become best friends after it.

I can assure you that didn't happen.

But I do have to admit that you did learn who Neito Monoma really was.

It’s pretty much canon that Monoma trash talks 1-A so much in part because he cares that much… too much… about his own classmates. It’s obvious based on the way he interacts with his classmates and phrases his rants towards class 1-A. (The fact that he’s obviously influenced by Vlad is just the cherry on top.)

He’s prideful of not just himself but also his friends

He's obnoxious, petty, resentful, egocentric, and basically a little shit

But throughout the year, you also ended up learning why.

First of all, everything he says and does is just an act.

He is very insecure about himself and his quirk's ability. Basically, he acts like he's the best because he feels he is the worst.

His self-doubt is very unhealthy. Like, the fact that he’s the only member of class B who failed the midterm despite having an intelligence stat of 5/5 speaks for itself.

To top it all off, since he's been a child, society has been telling him he can't be a hero with his kind of quirk

Despite all of that, Monoma is surprisingly very empathic. Maybe it has to do with the fact that his quirk allows him to walk in the shoes of other people in ways most will never be able to even if for 5 minutes at a time.

The kid has a way with words.

The kid has a weirdly poetic way with words.

He goes out of his way to encourage or reassure his classmates in a deeply thoughtful manner at every given opportunity.

The only reason he doesn't like class A is because he's trying to give his own class a fighting chance.

In a way, it's very sweet.

He hyped up Setsuna Tokage before her battle with Bakugo and you saw him grin in pride when Komori took down Tokoyami.

Whenever Monoma does criticize his classmates, it’s always frank, honest, but constructive, with the intention to help them improve. (We all appreciate honesty don't we?)

He's very philosophical, gives level-headed advice and all of that actually takes a lot of emotional and mental work. He's more of a mentor than any other adult.

And you soon realize that that's why all of his peers put up with him.

It’s during the joint training arc that we can clearly see why his classmates put up with him and are on friendly terms despite how obnoxious and cheesy he is. And despite how often they need to keep him in check.

It’s clear even as far back as the sports festival that his classmates don’t actually hate him, despite the smacks & tough love. Whenever he's doing something idiotic, they also just shake their heads with a smile on their face as they say “sorry about him." They just love him anyway.

And soon, you do too.

Because despite all of his flaws and all his doubts, weirdly enough he's always there for you.

You've never seen Monoma receive or accept praise or reassurance. He’s always the one giving it. He always makes it a point to put himself in the position where he’s being the emotionally strong one.

And you highly appreciate it because he becomes your rock.

With time you also become his rock.

Everyone thinks you would make a cute couple but there's still a long way for you to actually accept each other's feelings.

BnHA 323: “I Don’t Know How to Explain to You That You Should Care About Other People”

Previously on BnHA: Kacchan was all, “Izuku, I’m sorry.” Bakugou Stans were all, “[sobs for a week straight and tearfully awards him the Nobel Prize for character development].” Deku was all, “[faints in Kacchan’s arms].” Iida was all, “[trying to decide if Ochako genuinely tried to kill him a few minutes ago].” Horikoshi was all, “NO TIME FOR HUGS WE MUST GET BACK TO UA.” The civilians holed up at U.A. were all, “WE TOOK A VOTE AND DECIDED THAT WE’RE ALL GOING TO BE JERKS ABOUT THIS AND MAKE A BIG FUSS ABOUT YOU LETTING DEKU BACK INTO THE SCHOOL.” Deku was all “[stands there looking like he expected nothing less and breaking my heart more and more with each passing moment].” Ochako was all, “that does it, looks like I’m gonna have to do something about this... next chapter, that is.”

Today on BnHA: Flashback!Rat Principal is all “I just want you all to know that I spent nine million dollars turning U.A. into a giant Battleship-style grid that can burrow underground and zoom around in a giant subway maze because Horikoshi lacks a grounded understanding of both civil engineering and economics.” Back in the present day, Jeanist is all, “EVERYONE TAKE HEED, MY COMRADES AND I HAVE DEEMED IT EXPEDIENT TO CONVEY THIS AUSPICIOUS YOUTH BACK TO THIS STRONGHOLD. WE ANTICIPATE THAT WE MAY DEPEND UPON YOUR GOODWILL AND ACQUIESCENCE TO THESE TERMS.” The civilians were all, “NO.” Ochako was all, “EMPATHY, MOTHERFUCKERS, DO YOU SPEAK IT?!” The civilians were all, “oh shit.” Anyway so Ochako is a giant badass, but I’m a little worried that she’s going to get struck by lightning. Please come down from there.
