I know what a lot of people think about post canon voyager but tom paris is such a wife guy, he would never ever consider divorcing b'elanna. Ever. It would be super out of character.
Do I think there was a moment they almost broke up after voyager? Yeah! But I don't think either of them would let divorce cross their minds after that. They went through seven years of hell together! The whole point of their relationship is that they had issues with themselves and each other, like a real life relationship, and decided to work together.
I'm team Paris-Torres for life!

this was not the best movie I've ever watched, but it was enjoyable! bc of the extremly long winded animation scenes (the flight around the enterprise; the whole journey through the nebula to v'ger) - I'm talking several minutes - the movie was much longer than neccessary though. at the end I said the plot was probably half of the movie and my dad said, deadpan, that it was exactly 40 minutes of plot, so basically a regular episode, which I somehow found hilarious.
I thought the jump to more budget plus the late 70s was nice on the eyes. as much as I like the nostalgia of tos, I could take this much more seriously (not that that's the most important thing about star trek).
spirk-wise there were some scenes worth noting, but not a lot. I only remember when kirk was so excited to see spock as he arrived and shouting „spock! spock!“ over and over again, which was adorable. and then spock tumbling out of the v'ger entrance in his ev suit and kirk catching and holding him reminded me a bit of tom and b'elanna in day of honor, so that's sweet as well. and of course spock telling "jim" about "this simple feeling" while holding hands (touch telepath and such…) when spock was lying in sickbay. it actually mirrored the scene in the last tos episode imo, where kirk (in dr lesters body) is lying in sickbay and talks to and mind melds with spock.
but in general I feel like they had very few conversations and no private ones at all in this one bc spock was not xo, which is a pity not only for spirk fans, as it's usually a tos staple!
but I had a longer train of thought about spock and kirks relationship after that - even though it's useless as they never become a canon romantic couple - and I don't feel like it wouldve really fit within the story. like they would never find a way to be together for long bc of their careers and living in different places and kirk being so non-monogamous and spock seemingly very monogamous. (even though - shocker - kirk had no love interest in this movie!) so my headcanon is that they have an on again-off again kind of situationship, with spock not being able to let go for good but kirk being unable to (and not wanting to) commit even though they have this deep emotional connection and love for one another. so anyway, per usual I thought about this way too long…
on a completely different note, leonard nimoy's new teeth bothered me immensely in this movie. they all have different voices bc they aged and the microphones are probably a different technology, but he suddenly got a noticeable lisp and this kind of asmr saliva mouth sound. ...can you tell I'm neurodivergent?
btw I'm planning to get into tas at some point, just for the fun of it. probably when lower decks has ended (which I hope is not soon).

"I understand people who ship B'Elanna and Tom but from a very realistic perspective, I can't help but think at some point, they will get a divorce. They just gave me this vibe. I don't think a good love story need to rest forever, sometimes people break up and that's okay. It's not a failure. The special circumstances of the Voyager made B'Elanna and Tom falling in love and that's all."

no wonder people mock tom and b'elanna's relationship all the time, any scene of them alone together is ALWAYS the precursor to an argument. like oh my god. I get agitated now when they try to have a meaningful conversation because I know it's about to turn into a fight. and it's always when one of them has been mind controlled or traumatised or possessed or something, it's such an unfair portrayal of their situation. all the hard times only.

Ship ask game! J7, Janeway x Tuvok, and Tom x B'elanna
Did J7 (which I know you know, I saw your other ask I just haven't picked a wildcard yet lol)
Janeway x Tuvok
Don’t Ship It
1. Why don’t you ship it?
I don't see any romantic chemistry between them, tbh
2. What would have made you like it?
I mean, maybe if Tuvok were not married with children, and also if he was a woman I would be more inclined lol (I almost never care about m/f ships tbh)
3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
I love their canon relationship. I obviously love Janeway, but I also think Tuvok is a great character as well... best Vulcan, no question. I like how they have the most unlikely friendship in the world... like, Janeway is not a logical choice for a best friend for Tuvok, and I would love to see how that friendship developed, because I honestly feel like Janeway saw him one day, and said "oh, we're gonna be best friends" and then just never relented.
Tom x B'Elanna
Don’t Ship It
1. Why don’t you ship it?
I mean, they don't bother me necessarily, but I'm not invested in their relationship in any way, and I think they probably got divorced once they were back on Earth
2. What would have made you like it?
It needed better writing, I think. I love B'Elanna, and I really like Tom as a character too, but they are not really compatible, so they needed to write that relationship better to make it work, in my opinion. They weirdly went with Tom being a neglectful boyfriend who forgets dates and puts in very little effort, which was a weird angle to take when he was the one pursuing her in the first place.
And it's unfortunate, because they had some really good moments together. When she's having a complete breakdown in sickbay because she's scared that he will leave her because their child is too Klingon, that whole interaction was one of the best in their entire relationship. They're both emotional and passionate there, but on the same side for once... usually it was just them fighting, which got old fast.
It always seemed very much like a relationship of convenience to me... they both have limited options on the ship, so I think they both were like, "yeah, this one is good enough", but I just don't think it was strong enough to last once they were off the ship...
3. Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
I think they're both great characters who really do care about each other, and my headcanon is that they get divorced once they get back to Earth, but stay friends and coparent their daughter together, and their relationship is actually better for both of them that way.

I like how the true personalities bleed through in the killing game
Janeway - heroic and defiant
Seven - brusque
Tom and B’Elanna - drawn to each other
Neelix - appreciates the value of a good meal
Chakotay - space must not exist between him and the redhead
