As the door creaked open, Tommy couldn’t help but to smirk to himself. Right where he left you. Wrists bound to the bed frame as your head sloped over during your uneasy slumber, the bed sheets hardly covered your exposed, marked body. His heavy footsteps woke you as he headed to his mini bar whilst shredding off his jacket.
“Enjoy your night?” You sneered, your throbbing head undulated as your body felt weak.
“It was decent” Tommy replied coolly, his back to you as he poured himself a double shot of whiskey and walked over to you. “But I longed to return home to you” he admitted as he sat on the edge of the bed beside you.
“Lucky me” you grinned sarcastically, your eyes lingered on the tumbler, it triggered your dry throat to pulsate.
“Thirsty?” He inquired, an innocent smile on his lips.
You nodded gently and leaned yourself towards the glass. But he swapped it to his opposing hand and held it away from the bed. As you pouted to him, Tommy laughed in a dark tone as he placed it on the bedside table. Gradually, Tommy climbed on top of you and leant his head close to yours, your noses brushed against each other.
“Then be a good girl for me tonight, eh?” He whispered, the scent of alcohol suffocated your smell.
Tommy pulled the sheets off of your bare skin and admired the markings that he had given you within the past day. It gave him a sense of complete ownership, your body was for his taking. He tugged his shirt over his head and threw it aside.
“You can’t keep me here forever” you grumbled.
The fresh scratches on his chest were still yet to heal, it was his own fault, he miscalculated your strength. Tommy leant down and kissed you deeply, you compelled, not wanting another bruised mark on your skin, your hands naturally tugged at the rough rope, as they urged to wrap themselves around his upper body.
Tommy freed his throbbing length with one hand and caressed your torso with the other. His fingers ran over your swollen entrance and you gulped, unsure if your body had recovered from earlier today.
“By the time I untie you, you won’t want to leave” he smiled as he pressed the sides of your faces together. Steadily, he lined up his tip to your entrance.
“Cocky gypsy bastard” you moaned as you felt his length slowly push inside your wet canal.
There was a quick moment of silence as Tommy focused on pushing himself completely inside of you first. Slowly, he slipped in inch by inch to tease you. Done so to purely enjoy your soft, sweet moans.
“And your father is a cocky Irish scum. Which led you here, right beneath me” Tommy countered eventually. There was no counter argument from you, to hell with both of them. “Might as well get used to me, he won’t want you anymore when he finds out what you’ve been up to. He might shoot you for treason” Tommy chuckled cruelly, his hands pulling up your hips from the mattress as your legs wrapped around his waist.
“Fuck you Tommy” you hissed, as you tugged on the restraints and turned your face away from his in anger.
“You’re doing that right now sweetheart” Tommy snickered as he nibbled on your earlobe, picking up his pace without care.

Tommy Shelby convincing his wife to stop being angry at him after an argument
Tumblr media
Thank you again so much!
warnings: Reader is insecure and Tom is an ass still learning to love, fluff
“I’m not angry, I’m livid Thomas! You completely embarrassed me tonight, and had the audacity to place me at a dinner table with a woman that wants to fuck my husband!” He rolled his eyes carelessly, fully understanding why you were upset but denying the simple state of your feelings before raising his voice. “Maybe you would have understood had your simple mind set aside your inner personal problems and not been consumed by a ridiculous, saddening amount of jealousy!” You jaw dropped in astonishment at what he had said, before your anger mixed into sadness. Whipping your head around, you rushed out of the room, finding yourself taking solace in the bedroom.
He followed you, brushing his hand down his face in worry as he knew he had gone too far. You were just a delicate little thing that knew close to nothing about business but he hadn’t intended for her to be there at the meeting.
When he walked through the door and saw you sitting on the disheveled sheets, weeping into you palms, he knew he had gone too far and shouldn’t have raised his voice at you.
He knew you were a delicate little thing that could be insecure just based off of the previous women he had been involved with. Not only were they beautiful, but they also knew how to bargain and handle business affairs. But he had never, ever intended to throw your worries and concerns in your face in such a manner. He loved you deeply and was still learning how to show you, how to respect your boundaries. In his eyes you were his rock, the most beautiful woman in the world whom always treated him with such kindness and patience.
Taking his seat next to you on the mattress, he slowly attempted to place his arm around you but you nudged him away, not wanting a single thing to do with him at this very moment.
Sighing, his eyes scanned the room, contemplating the best way to handle this without screwing it up.
When he spoke, it was with sincerity, his voice was as soft as a loving dove. “Y/N, I didn’t mean to say that. With business comes hardships and we will fight. We will be mad at each other, most likely because of myself.” He heard you chuckle lightly through the tears, catching his attention.
“But I truly did not know she would be attending and I should have told you of her intentions.” Your cries were beginning to simmer down when you found the courage to turn toward him, staring into his blue eyes that radiated kindness, no anger apparent.
When he saw you tear-stained face he wanted to kick himself, to rewind and wish he had never even arranged this business deal at the expense of your feelings. His eyebrows furrowed together, his thumb tracing away your tears as his lips pursed together in regret.
“She smirked at me Thomas… She blatantly said to me in the kitchen she would win you over, she told me I was just a chess piece in a game I’d never understand nor win.” Thomas hadn’t known that, if he did he would’ve thrown them out of your home, had the whore walking home in fear for her life, taking everything from her in just a matter of minutes, completely demolishing any confidence or thought that she would have a chance with him.
His hand clenched together in anger while he tried to avoid becoming more aggressive than he had already been tonight. It was one thing to disrespect him, but you were far more important, and far more vulnerable at times than he was and he drew a line when it came to anyone speaking to his beloved wife in such disgust manner.
“Believe me when I say, this deal is off and you won’t ever see her again. The dumb blonde was talking out of her ass, and I will not stand for someone disrespecting my wife. She could never compete with my strong, loving, overly attractive Y/N. No woman would ever come between us my darling. Nonetheless, you are my rock, and have put up with the darkest sides of me and still choose to stand by me as I do you and that will never change my love.” A small smile formed on your face while the anger, and hatred in the room seemed to fade out, and simmer down.
Pulling you into his arms, you nuzzled your head into the crook of his neck, the warmth of his skin and the smell of cigarettes bringing immense comfort to your body, causing your bones to relax and not be so stiff and full of tension anymore.
He held you tight, rubbing slow circles over your back as he felt your breathing become more subtle and on track. From this moment forward he knew he had to do better, he didn’t want to imagine a life without you in it, he wouldn’t.
He had never felt so lucky to have you, and was still trying to change his ways for you, even if it was the slightest amount just to keep you near and dear at his side, just where had had wanted you. Placing a soft, chaste kiss to your silky, delicate skin as he hugged you tightly, brushing one hand through the strands of your hair lovingly while he whispered endless apologies, never wanting to upset you in this manner ever again.

Your needs, my needs - Thomas Shelby
Summary: after a particularly rough day, tommy needs you more than ever.
Warnings: mentions of blood and slightly suggestive content.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The day was coming to a close when Thomas finally found enough peace to walk home. The light from the sky was falling slowly from view, and the gravel beneath his feet held no comfort to any of the steps he took, but he traveled on nonetheless, back home to you.
He was desperate for it, your touch. After the day he'd had, he craved it like a drowning man prays for oxygen, and he pushes himself through your front door with such a force you'd thought a gunshot had been fired.
"Y/N!" Tommy calls, his voice echoing in the empty stairwell. He's about to make his way up said stairs, when you appear, a look of concern upon your face.
"Tommy? What's happened?" You take each step quickly, stumbling down the last few in your rush, but Tommy is there and ready to steady you. The instant his hands meet your body, he can feel each nerve in his muscles loosening. As if his hold on you releases their hold on him.
"It's good to see you." Tommy mutters, eyes raking over your features, fingers digging into your sides soft enough for you to be comfortable, but strong enough for him to know you're really there.
"Thomas, your bleeding." Your hand comes up to his forehead, the cut there leaking red slowly, though Tommy doesn't care. How can he when your eyes are on him in such an affectionate way, as though he isn't the monster he's painted himself to be? You make him feel like maybe his pain is just that. Paint, that he can wash away, and as it runs down the drain, maybe then he will be good enough for you.
He brings one hand up to the back of your neck, thumb grazing over your earlobe as he feels a shiver run through you.
"Tommy, you're hurt. You're not thinking straight." You're being stern with him, but your touch says otherwise, and you both know it.
"I'm thinking perfectly well, sweetheart." He's never kissed you before, never touched you in the way he is now, but he's thought about it long and hard for months, wondering when his resolve would fade. Perhaps today is that day because his eyes can't help but flicker downward to your lips. Yours do the same to his.
"You're an anchor," Tommy moves closer as you lean into the touch of his hand on your cheek. "And I'm a fucking shipwreck."
"I didn't think Thomas Shelby was a man that could be tied down. He's always on the move, isn't he?" You're whispering, breath fanning over him, and you can feel his hand on your hip slide round to the small of your back, begging you closer, hoping you'll take the steps.
"Perhaps some things can change."
You don't believe him in the slightest. Tommy can't be still. He can't simply love you in the way you could him if given the chance. And he might try, but his efforts end up wasted, washed away by the fact business is the forefront of his mind.
"You don't want to change, Tommy. That's the last thing you want."
"I think I can be the judge of what it is that I want." He's feeling dizzy, his body swaying briefly without his permission, and you pull back from him when you notice it.
"You need to sit." Tommy doesn't have a choice in the matter because you've taken him by the hand and are leading him to the living room. You'd decorated it nicely, wooden furniture and a quilt covered sofa that you force him to sit upon.
"Rest, Tommy." You say when he tries to coax you back toward him. He can still hear the ringing in his ears from the gunfire earlier that day, the wet thunk of his fists on bloodied flesh.
"Dont need rest, love." He's pushed himself up from the sofa, closing the gap between you. His chest rises and falls opposite to your own, and his hands have found your hips once more. "I know what I need. I think we both do."
"What you want and what you need are very different things, Tommy. You need to rest." You tell him again, though he's being more distracting now. His lips have come down to leave a kiss below your ear, his voice gravelly and quiet
"Right now, I just need you fucking close to me." He takes a few steps back, allowing himself to fall into the sofa, and with his hands on your hips he guides you into his lap.
You allow it and stare at him from the new position, concern crossing your features. Concern not for Tommy now, but for whether you'll be able to stop thinking about him if you give in. You'd thought about it nearly as much as Tommy, but you held more restraint than the peaky blinder that now had a hand running through your hair.
"Tommy—" you don't know what else to say, stopping to think about it. Not that it's easy to think with his lips on your neck.
"If you want me to go, say it. But I've had a rough fucking week, and something tells me you have too." His eyes seem a harsher blue than before, they glow in the low light of the room, and you can't deny yourself of this. At least not now.
So you kiss him, and allow his hands to roam. You let yours do the same, tugging at his coat, his vest, his shirt. And Tommy loves every minute of it. It's like the snow the boys are so addicted to, seeping into his bloodstream, and he's high on energy again, even after the long day. He was right, you were the cure he needed to empty his mind, to bring him back to the present. The waiting game he'd played with you for so long, has melted away, and with every lingering touch Tommy knows his place is here. Until the next fight he has, the next pile of business he's forced to battle his way through, he can tangle himself up in you, and allow himself the affection he so rarely receives.
-
AN: I didn't know where this fic was going, so i ended it here. No plot, just vibes. Slut era.

cw - tommy shelby x mother! reader. reader has a daughter and tommy is not the father lol. mostly fluff and humour, tommy beefs with an almost 4 year old but what’s new?
a/n : this was a request however i lost the actual request 🤷🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media
"sweetheart, are you ready?" [name]'s voice rang throughout the house as she finished placing her coat over her outfit, rummaging through her purse to see if she had enough money to do her shopping shortly after.
"yes, mummy!" came the reply from her daughter in a sweet childish voice as she ran up to her mother who held her arms wide open for her baby to run into and balance on her waist.
she took sight of dana's face with her chubby cheeks and felt overwhelming affection cross through her "come here!" giggles erupted into the air as [name] peppered kisses all over the little girls face.
"alright, little bug," she says as she sets her down and looks directly at her "we need to go to the market but before that we'll go and see mister curly, is that good?" she asks the girl and in return receives a nod of glee.
"good, let's go!"
.
hand in hand, [name] and her daughter exited their house, arms swinging merrily as they made their way to the stables curly worked in. it was fate that they stumbled upon the place during one of their strolls intended to familiarise themselves around the city, having just moved to small heath less than 4 months ago after the death of the patriarch of the family.
small heath, despite its unpleasant parts (it seemed quite grime and dirty most of the times), had its charms. the people were alright — curly was friendly! — and it was not extremely hectic like london was. at least she thought so, she heard about something called "peaky blinders" mentioned every now and again but they were usually in hushed whispers and she found that it did not concern her as she lived peacefully with her daughter.
"good morning, mister curly!" [name] greeted curly upon their arrival. dana was quick to detach from her mother and approach curly with an eager smile and hug. the kind man took it in stride and with an equally jovial smile and he was quick to lead the young girl to the beautiful horse snacking on the scattered hay before it.
"a good morning to you too, missus [surname]" he replied shortly after, tipping his head in greeting like a gentlemen and a smile made it's way onto the widows face as she turned to look at dana rubbing her face against one of the horses fur.
"dana, we won't spend long here alright?" a pout formed on her daughters lips at the declaration and [name] mentally prepared herself to win whatever argument that would rise from her daughter.
"okay, mummy." the girl sighed in defeat and [name] approached her to press a kiss on the crown of her head for being an obedient child before she pat the horse her child was caressing.
"what was he called again, love?" [name] asked as she turned to look down at her daughter who smiled brightly. she loved animals but horses in particular seemed to have caught her little self's attention.
"he's moby, mummy," dana said, hands resting on her waist much like her mum would often do "you should know that."
"I forgot sweetheart, must be turning old." she chuckles and checks her watch before patting her daughters shoulder "now, let's get going, honey."
"goodbye mister curly!" dana waves at the man who waves back and [name] gives a milder wave of her own. the two begin to walk slowly to the market as the mother starts to instruct dana.
"hold onto my hand or my coat at all times, okay?" she tells her daughter.
"yes, mummy."
"I don't want you to get lost, babygirl. I'll get you a treat for being a good girl, alright?" [name] pinches her cheek when they arrive at a stand in the market and she starts checking the items being sold as the man behind the cart occupies her attention.
dana's attention, however, is captured by the neighing of a horse nearby and she gasps at the sight of moby striding through the streets with an unfamiliar man settled upon him. she is quick to leave her mothers side to get a better look at the man who stole moby. once he catches sight of her, he slows the horse to warn the young girl.
"out of the way, love." he says. voice gruff and so unlike the tone her mum would use to warn her and so dana stubbornly shakes her head and crosses her arms. he watches her as she watches him, a deep frown settled on her lips and eyebrows set in passionate defiance. anyone could see that the girl was not going to comply with anything and so the man sighs and mounts off the horse. he holds the reigns in his hand as he begins to head towards the girl with the horse following and takes his place in front of her, kneeling down to meet her gaze.
"can you move out the way, please?" he repeats, tone much softer this time. the girl still shakes her head and the mysterious man wearing a peaked cap shuts his eyes in annoyance.
the words she says causes him to flash his eyes open--
"sir, that horse is not yours."
she says it with so much confidence and certainty that he finds himself confused as she points towards the horse planted firmly behind him.
"pardon?" he asks, bafflement evident on his expression.
"how can you steal him from mister curly? mummy told me stealing is very rude and not nice. so stealing from mister curly is very rude and very mean. what if I went into your house and stole something important from you, would you not be sad? because I know I would."
in the midst of this occurring, the citizens of small heath take in the spectacle before them. eyes trained and mouths agape at the sight of the most dangerous man in birmingham being scolded by someone, nevermind a little girl, about stealing of all things.
tommy's face relaxes "first off, this is my horse," he claims, running a hand down monaghan boy's head "second, where's your mummy?"
"she's shopping" she quickly answers, dismissing him "but I'm here to stop you from stealing moby, mister thief."
"moby? mister. thief?" tommy repeats in mild amusement as his brow arches.
"dana, sweetheart, where are you?" [name]'s voice calls out and she breaks through the crowd to see a man kneeling with a hand shoved into his pocket in front of her highly irritated daughter.
"what's going on here?" she asks as she arrives to stand behind her daughter with her hands placed collarbones, hugging her body close to her torso in protection as mild panic settled onto her pretty features.
"I'm assuming you're the mum?" the man asks as he stands up straight and [name] takes this opportunity to scan his appearance thoroughly. he was a good looking man, seemingly based on the attire he bode, she took notice of the cigarette he almost wore as an accessory.
"you're right, is there a problem?" she confirms and levels his gaze despite how piercing it was.
"this little girl-" the man was interrupted by dana turning in her arms with angry tears threatening to spill from her eyelids "mummy, this man stole moby from mister curly and he's not wanting to give him back!"
[name]'s eyebrows furrow together as she looks at her daughter before lifting her head to see the man roll his eyes.
"miss," he interjects "your daughter will not allow me to pass despite my ownership of the horse, curly is my employee." he clarifies but dana just turns to [name] to rebut as she's not convinced.
"mummy, tell curly to come here and see if this man is telling the truth." the older woman was about to deny her request but dana widened her doe eyes and persisted and so, [name] sighed as she told her to stay in her spot before hurrying over to the stables nearby.
"I don't have time for this." tommy goes to move but dana screams in protest and he freezes.
"stop that." he demands the girl and she sticks her tongue out at him and if this situation wasn't a bit irritable on his behalf, he would have laughed but that didn't stop the half scoff, half chuckle from leaving his lips.
"fine, I'll stay until 'mister curly' shows up." dana moves closer to the man to pat the horse.
"it's fine moby, I'll save you from this mean man." she says in a loud whisper and tommy merely raises an eyebrow at her.
"alright everyone, keep moving." he claps his hands together beckoning the onlookers to briskly walk away and proceed their previous activities.
"I'm so sorry, sir." curly limps over to the man who just nods as a sign of dismissal of the apology and motions to the child clutching onto the horse.
"dana, come 'ere." curly takes the girl away to explain to her and [name] stands before the man and offers him an apology of her own.
"I'm very sorry, mister shelby?" she says with a bit of an intonation at the end and the man nods "we're new here and not really sure as to how this place works, I'm very sorry if my daughter offended you in any way and ask you to forgive her for she is merely a child."
"I'm not a monster, despite what you might've heard." he chuckles "she's a loyal child who wants to stop something bad from happening to someone or something she loves, you raised her good." he nods, as if agreeing with himself and looks at the girl who was walking guiltily over to the two and [name] gives a small smile in return.
"thank you, is there anyway we could make it up to you?" she asked, picking up her daughter to rest on her hip.
"well, I'd like an apology from this little lass" he taps the tip of dana's nose and she crinkles it cutely in response "and an address from you." he says after a bit of a pause.
"address?" [name] inquires, confused and intrigued as well as worried.
"fear not, I'm not the grim reaper asking for your souls." he smirked as he caught [name] looking apologetic at her hesitance, lower lip released from the clutch her teeth had against it "I'd like to invite you both to something."
"I see," [name] smiles with a nod before whispering in dana's ear something and the little girl looks at the man with a frown on her lips.
"I'm sorry for saying bad things about you mister, it was wrong of me and I'm very, very sorry." she looks at him with teary eyes.
"you're alright," he pinches dana's cheeks softly "I'm sure moby would appreciate you trying to protect him."
"can I still see him?" she asks, hope lacing her words and the man nods.
"thank you, sir!"
"thank you a lot, mister shelby."
"anytime, miss?"
"[surname], [name] [surname]." she flashes him a smile before taking her leave with her daughter still in her arms who gives the man a big smile that has him returning a smaller one.

If Speaking is Silver, Then Listening is Gold
a Turkish proverb
prompt: ( requested ) you require a bit of reprieve after the week you had, and Tommy's a gentleman.
pairing: Tommy Shelby x hard of hearing female!reader
fandom masterlist: Peaky Blinders
word count: 4.4k+
note: you hit me in the chest with this request. as someone who is hard of hearing (HoH) and progressively losing what they have left, this got personal.
warnings: author projects, mild angst, hurt and comfort, specified frustration, working with customers SUCK, mild violence, Tommy's a little OC 'cause he doesn't know what to do with emotion!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Excuse me! God, the service here is terrible! Aren't you listening to me, barmaid!?" The woman with polished finger nails slammed her manicured hand to the bartop aggressively, glaring at you as if you had backhanded her mother.
The sudden slap made you jump slightly, turning your head to acknowledge her before deflecting, "In a moment, ma'am, I'm trying to listen to this man's order."
"I've been trying to get your attention for 10 minutes now!" She argued, the noise of the bar dialed up as the night droned on and the patrons drank more.
"And I'm busy assisting other customers, I'll get to you when it's your turn," you reminded her, blinking at the man in front of you. "I'm so sorry, sir, I, uh, what were you saying?"
He sighed, "You don't remember? Or didn't hear me?"
"I couldn't hear you over the woman yelling at me," you snipped, perking your brows. "Would you like to order or should I move onto another customer?"
He scoffed, "Just get me a fucking bourbon."
"One fucking bourbon comin' at'cha," you rolled your eyes as you turned from the people to grab the bottles of liquor lined up behind you. You poured the man his drink, set it in front of him, and pocketed the bill he slapped in front of you - not offering change as you instantly looked to another customer. He grumbled with displeasure, but you were asking the next person, "What can I get you?"
"Uh, no, I'm next, I've been waiting long enough," the woman with polished fingernails insisted, literally pushing the customer out of her way.
You sighed, "Know what? All right, fine, what can I get you, ma'am?"
At that moment, the doors swung open and a new wave of drunkards stumbled in; the bar roaring to greet the newcomers as the woman ordered her posh drink that had no business being ordered in The Garrison.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" You asked, staring at her mouth in the hopes of reading her lips. She repeated her order, but her tacky lipstick made her lips stick - making it hard to read. "What? I'm sorry, ma'am, it's loud, you're gonna have to speak up."
"Are you fucking with me right now!?" She screeched, making your eyes widen. "You're the fucking deaf - you can't hear a simple order!?"
"I only asked you to repeat yourself," You defended.
"You asked me three times!" She raged.
"So tell me a fourth and shut the fuck up!"
"Hey, hey, hey," Harry stepped in, hand to your shoulder when the woman looked ready to launch over the bar, "I got this. I'll man the bar, you go on - there's some tables that need bussing."
You sighed and stepped back, nodding, "Sure, Harry."
You hated when he did this. Instead of defending you and your inability to hear - something you have no control over - he would always just push you aside and send you to do other chores. It wouldn't cost anything to tell the customers to calm down, it was loud in the pub and you had a hard time hearing as is - but nope! The customer was always right, or whatever bullshit he would remind you.
You were constantly accosted at work for your difficulty hearing clearly. It wasn't that you couldn't hear at all, it was just difficult! Sometimes, you could hear bits of their sentence and just inference whatever words you missed, but that wasn't an exact science. You mostly depended on reading people's lips, always hating asking anyone to repeat themselves; but at work, it wasn't always possible. The people you interacted with seemingly took personal offense that you had a hard time hearing, and each of them made their displeasure known. Again, a great time for Harry to defend you, but the older man didn't like rocking the boat.
You didn't necessarily blame him, knowing the Peaky Blinders kept a close eye on the pub and would probably reprimand (cut) Harry for discipling customers instead of firing you. So, you kept quiet about your displeasure over your treatment because you needed this job - you never wanted to give reason or thought that you were difficult. Maybe that was why Harry would send you off to do other chores, he didn't want you to lose your cool and this job. Though, some of these people deserved a good tongue lashing.
Picking up a spare pail, you went around to a few tables and cleared them of empty glasses before using a rag from your bucket to wipe them down for the next set of people.
Apparently, in that moment, someone decided to move past you, and to their credit, they did say, "Excuse me, luv, behind yah," but you didn't hear him. So, when you straightened up from cleaning the table, you took a natural step back and bumped into a body; gasping when something wet splashed over your neck, shoulders, and down your back and chest. "Oh, fuckin' hell, lass! Watch where yer fuckin' goin'!" The man raged, his empty glass shattered on the floor.
You blinked in shock.
"What? Didn't fuckin' hear me when I told yah I was there!?" The man continued to reprimand you. "Gotta fuckin' listen in a pub like this, lass, you'll cause worse fuckin' accidents!"
"I'm so sorry," you offered meekly, shaking the ale off your arms and glancing at your front to see it trickled in alcohol. You needed to take a deep, long breath before turning to head for the bar.
"What happened?" Harry asked when you arrived, looking mild concerned.
"Another spill," you spoke through a clenched jaw.
"Oi!" The man who dropped his drink all over you approached the bar, barking at Harry. "It's not our fault you hired some deaf bitch! That can't fuckin' hear 'round her! She didn't move from my way, I lost me pint 'cause of her stupidity!"
Stupid...? Did this drunk asshole just call you stupid because HE bumped into YOU and spilled HIS OWN drink? Maybe the money you made at the bar wasn't worth this...
Harry had no issue giving the drunkard another pint of ale as you tried in vain to dry off, but your dress, hair, and skin was completely plastered in sticky alcohol. You felt your eyes burn with stress, wanting to burst into tears and sob your frustrations out, but you didn't have the strength to break down right now. That's how tired and upset you were - you didn't even have the energy to cry.
You went about your evening, bussing tables and avoiding whatever customers you could; keeping your head on a swivel to avoid any other accidents. You felt a little better, but the stress still lingered around the bar; feeling as if the customers were glaring at you no matter what you did. When a natural lull came, Harry let you back behind the bar with the promise of staying near in case you needed him, but you were ready to drop.
Your final straw was about an hour after the usual Peaky Blinders and Shelby brothers had come in for the nightly round(s) of whiskey. You smiled at Arthur when he approached the bar, all too happy to greet you loudly - the lad never having an issue with speaking up when you couldn't hear. Arthur was always happy to accommodate you, having a soft spot for you since his brother, Tommy, had made his interest in you known that past year.
Speaking of, Tommy Shelby, notorious gangster of Small Heath and the head huncho of the Peaky Blinders, entered after his brothers and made an instant approach. "Harry," he greeted when he stepped around the bar.
"Mr. Shelby," Harry nodded.
"Love," he acknowledged you, pecking your cheek sweetly. "All right?"
"Hmm?"
"Doin' all right?" He asked clearly, being similar to his brother and not minding speaking louder, slower, clearer, whatever you needed to hear him better. In fact, Tommy wasn't know for being patient, but with you, he'd repeat himself as many times as it took - but only for you.
"Oh, yeah," you sniffled, trying to hide your frustrations.
"Why's your dress wet?" He worried, petting a sticky lock of your hair back, his concern mounting.
You shrugged, "Bit of an accident, 's not a big deal."
"Someone run into you, again?"
You nodded, "It's fine, though. He got a new pint and calmed down."
Tommy shook his head, gritting, "Who?"
"Tommy."
"Tell me who, love."
"No, Tommy, it's fine," you insisted, petting your hand down his chest in a show of affection; seeing another customer approach the bar. "I'm sorry, I'm working, love, can we talk later?"
He nodded, pecked your temple, grabbed a bottle of Irish whiskey and moved for the snug - where his brothers and Aunt Polly waited for him. You got back to work, and barely noticed the time ticking by... Until a new customer approached you with a sneer already marring his face.
"What can I get for you, sir?" You asked kindly, needing to raise your voice over the usual drunken yelling. So, you preemptively warned him, "Sorry, 's bit noisy tonight, you'll have to speak up."
The man ordered his drink clearly, but another few men in loosened slacks and disheveled button-ups stalked up to the bar; crowding around the other two men who stumbled over in obnoxious laughter. You felt your panic spike, already overwhelmed by them all trying to talk over one another.
You were bombarded with drink orders from them all, eyes flickering between them because you didn't know who to listen to first. You tried to get the drinks together at the same time, but in truth, it was overwhelming because the men changed their orders, but got mad at YOU when you didn't quite hear them clearly.
Their drunken words added to the bar's noise level sprinkled with you being hard-of-hearing just resulted in a cluster fuck. "This isn't what I fucking ordered!" The original man complained, glaring at you with distain. "It's really not that hard, girl, my God. If you can't get our drinks right, how you gonna make any man a decent wife? Gonna fuck up his dinners, too?"
"Jesus - I'm sorry, there's just a lot going on. Why don't you remind me your drink and I'll get it now," you offered as kindly as you could.
"I doubt you'll be able to get it right," he sneered, but you missed half his sentence.
"I'm sorry, what was that?"
"Are you fuckin' kiddin' me!? Just fuckin' listen - it's not hard!" He snarled, literally chucking his glass just past your ear so it shattered into the liquor bottles behind you. "You can't even get a fucking drink right! Fuck you doin' workin' here, then!?"
This caused a huge commotion, obviously.
The Shelby's don't play games, you see, and the moment the glass shattered, they were moving out of the snug to investigate. When they realized someone had offered you disrespect, it was a shit show as the drunkards clashed with the men with razors stitched in their caps. Still in shock from the show of violence, you felt something in your heart snap you into motion.
So, you silently untied your apron, grabbed your coat and home keys, then literally walked out the backdoor - while the men all scuffled. The moment you stepped outside, you let your emotional dam give out - sobbing into the stinging cold air as you moved up the street.
You weren't sure what emotion you felt - be it anger, disappointment, shame, fear... Crippling insecurity. Once at the Irish pub, The Black Lion, you settled at the nearly empty bar and ordered your own drink, something you rarely did anymore. Something about working with alcohol all day made you less inclined to drink, but tonight was different than previous nights.
"All right, lass?" The bartender asked, pouring the whiskey in front of you. "Look a bit put out, huh?"
"Just a long week," you answered. He hummed, nodding and asking something. You felt tears in your eyes when you asked, "C-Could you repeat that?"
Louder, he repeated, "Anything you wanna talk about?"
"Oh, no, thank you," you waved off. "Just... Customers being unruly."
He laughed, "Oh, don't I know it. What happened?"
You shrugged, "Nothing important."
"C'mon, lass, if it's made you come inta a place like this, searching for a drink, it's probably important enough."
You sighed, "Honestly, I think I appreciate the silence."
He smirked, "I can respect that. Here," he poured you a new glass, "this one's on the house. I deal with unruly customers, too, so, I know you'll need this second one."
You chuckled and grinned broadly when he went to walk away, did a double take, then left the whiskey bottle to your side with a smirk. He moved off to sit at a different table with some other older men, leaving you alone for the first time in what felt like a long time. It felt ironic for a moment that you sought solitude and silence, but you just wanted time to digest all that happened tonight and move on.
Why couldn't people understand that despite you being a public servant, you were still a human being? A human with human emotions, human disability, who makes human mistakes. Yet according to those entitled pricks that think YOU work for THEM, you were a second class citizen who was underserving of empathy. How dare you ask them to repeat themselves! How dare you misunderstand their order - and quickly replace it! How dare you have a disability past your control that affects your day-to-day life!
There was a heavy, looming feeling of being inadequate.
Being alive was hard enough as it is, more so when a bodily function most others take for granted malfunctioned within you. It made life harder; you had to work harder than everyone else just to operate on their same level. However, if you dare show exhaustion, frustration, any degree of weakness, you were quick to be labeled as "lazy" or "entitled" or your favorite, "dramatic!"
Those people can hear pins drop, they couldn't ever fathom what this felt like. It wasn't that you couldn't hear, you could. It just wasn't on the level other's could heard at, and for whatever reason, it seemed to frustrate everyone else more than you. You were the one dealing with the predicament, and yet, everyone else was seemingly the most inconvenienced! They thought it mortally offensive to be served by someone "like you", thinking your disability was unacceptable in their proximity.
Fucking assholes.
If only they knew the way your stomach knotted itself every time you asked someone to repeat what they said. Every time you said, "Huh?" or "What was that? What did you say?"
You were embarrassed because it made you feel as if you couldn't even be a human "correctly", and it's not like you chose for this to happen! It's not like anyone chooses to make the obligation called life ten times harder by putting you at a functional disadvantage. You felt like "damaged goods" because you felt constantly out of the loop; missing a lot of what's said if you're not paying explicit attention.
However, years ago, you had perfected the ability to read lips. Yet this was difficult when most people you couldn't hear were your customers, majority of who are slurring their words. You worked in The Garrison, meaning that on any given night, there was loud discussions that added to your frustration - but the tips were too good to quit. So you endured. You felt pathetic and borderline like a failure if you quit any job; feeling as if your disability had won by emotionally crippling you. So, while it didn't make a lot of sense to work in a noisy place when you're already hard-of-hearing, you remained at your place of employment simply out of spite.
It was difficult reminding yourself it wasn't your fault, that you were still doing a great job - no matter how many customers catch attitudes, get snippy, or throw full-on adult tantrums. You despised needing to be the "bigger person", but figured nobody else would be willing to accommodate you, so, if you wanted a semblance of peace, you had to be the one to create it.
You reached for the bottle of whiskey after downing your second glass. With a harsh sniffle, you glanced around the pub and realized how many people had arrived to fill in the place. You felt the hair on the back of your neck stand on end, acutely aware that you were so deep in your emotional tarpit that you missed the noise rising.
So much for a quiet night.
You poured a new glass, praying to whatever God would listen that you're granted deliverance from this empty, helpless feeling that was pitting your stomach and chest.
Tumblr media
After hearing the glass shatter, Tommy and his brothers were rocketing to their feet to investigate. They saw a man, red in the face, yelling hatefully at you behind the bar - liquor dripping off the shattered shelves from the man's bout of violence. There was no thinking for any of them. Tommy recognized you were in a predicament; striding forward first, and the chaos began.
It'd been a good bit since the lads had a good fist fight. No razors, no guns, no advantages - just bare fists and bar furniture.
It cleared the place out, and when the drunkard was hauled off by his companions, Tommy was wiping the blood from his knuckles. Harry frowned at the sight of blood splattered on the floor, shaking his head before calling your name - knowing you had some secret to getting blood out before it stained. However, there was no response. The Shelby boys all looked around expectantly, waiting for you to reappear, but it was evident by the way Harry searched for you that you weren't in the building.
Tommy placed a cigarette to his lips, just lighting it when Harry returned from the back room, informing, "Her belongin's are gone, she must've left early."
This made Tommy whip around sharply to use his own eyes and scan the room. "Nobody saw where she went? How was nobody watchin' her!?" Tommy asked demanded. There were several shakes of different heads, Tommy's anxiety flaring in his chest. He quickly rushed to grab his coat and flat cap, tugging them on in haste, hearing Arthur question where he was going. "Gotta find her," he explained through his panting-panic. "City's dangerous enough for people that can hear properly. God knows what can happen when she's alone at this time of night."
"We'll help," John offered, nudging Arthur, Finn, and their cousin, Michael Gray.
"I'll find her faster," Tommy answered, already out the door.
Michael shared a look around the room, wondering, "He acts like this all the time or just with that one pretty barmaid?"
Arthur smirked broadly, "That one pretty barmaid is Tommy's girl. Don't get caught lookin'."
"He's like this with just her," John chuckled, "always has been, always taking care of her the way she cares for him."
"What did Tommy mean? She can't hear?" Michael questioned innocently.
"Nah, girl's got some hearin', just not a whole lotta it," John explained as if common knowledge. "Never thought I'd see Tommy so patient, so fuckin' doting. He doesn't mind repeating himself if she asks, in fact, he does what he can to talk to her how she needs."
"What's that mean?"
"Like," John paused, sighing through his nose, "he'll face her directly, speak slower to let her read his lips. He speaks up, he's clearer, he wants her to feel like she's not a burden if she can't hear like us can so he does it all organically."
Michael smiled softly, vaguely impressed by Tommy's show of humanity. Speaking of, everyone's favorite gangster was prowling through Small Heath; stopping in each and every open business, searching for the familiar sight of you, and moving on when he was unsuccessful. You weren't at the Shelby home, nor your apartment, church, or anywhere along the Canal - places you frequent when overwhelmed.
Tommy was beginning to get cold, but he wouldn't say that. His determination would keep him warm, and even as the snow began to fall once more, Tommy hiked through the wind. Luck seemed to be on his side because when he entered the third pub, one he doesn't usually step foot in outside of evident emergencies, there you were; sat at the bar looking miserable.
"Thank God," Tommy breathed in relief, straightening his jacket and swiping his cap from his head. He approached your side and reached a hand out to the bartop in front of you, minimally startling you by announcing his presence without words. "Hey, love," he greeted you.
"What're you doing, Tommy? Blinders don't come 'round in here."
"We do when one of our own goes missing."
Your eyes rolled, "I'm not missing, I just needed a break."
"I know," he nodded, "but I'm here to make sure you get home safe."
"I don't need an escort."
"I don't think you do, but it's dangerous at night. You know I care about you and that includes your well-being."
"Oh, don't tell me, you're trying to play the gentleman card?" You scoffed, taking another swallow from your glass. "C'mon, sit down, I don't like drinking alone," you commented, "makes me sad, leaves me alone with my thoughts."
"We can drink at home, love."
"I don't want to go home yet."
"Why?"
"'Cause I'll have to explain why I got fired."
"You didn't."
"Huh!?" You yelped.
"You didn't lose your job," he assured softly.
"No?"
"No, not fired."
"Oh," you mulled over your thoughts, "that's good, then."
Tommy sighed and pulled his coat off to take the empty barstool beside you. "All right," he decided, going through the motions to stick a cigarette between his lips and light it. Smoke wafted from his mouth as he asked, "What happened tonight?"
"You already know, I'm sure."
"I want your truth."
"Doesn't matter," you refused, downing the last of the whiskey in your glass. You went to leave a few bills for your tab, but Tommy stopped you and covered it himself. Your eyes rolled and hand snatched the nearly-empty bottle of whiskey before heading for the exit.
Tommy followed not far behind.
"Love, c'mon, wait up," he grit, catching up to you and tossing his coat over your form, "you're gonna catch ill."
"I'm fine," your eyes rolled. Truthfully, the consumed whiskey in your system acted as an internal heating mechanism; warming your blood, wrapping you in a fuzzy grip.
"Talk to me," he pleaded.
"I just - I'm frustrated, okay?"
"Sure, all right," he agreed, "but why?"
"You don't get it, Tommy," you felt emotional, rounding on him with tears in your eyes. "You don't know what it's like, you can hear just fine, you can still see, you don't know what it's like to progressively lose one of your senses! The way people get angry for something I cannot dictate - it's like they're the one being vastly inconvenienced!"
Tommy nodded, just listening.
"And they crucify me for it!" You sniffled, feeling defeated. "Like I'm some pariah that will infect them with my loss of hearing. They treat me as if - as if I've asked for this, as if I'm doing it on purpose!"
"What would help?"
"Honestly? I don't know anymore, Tommy, but this town is seriously lacking in their ability to empathize. I don't know what I'm supposed to say or do - I get so angry now. It happens more and more, people getting angry or frustrated at me 'cause I need them to repeat themselves. What am I supposed to do, huh?"
He smirked slightly, but the sight angered you.
"Oh, fuck off, Tommy!" You turned from him, moving back up the street. "I don't need to laugh at me like the rest of them - "
"I'm not!" Tommy insisted, reaching for your wrist to halt you, whip you around, face him again. Both his hands extended to hold the area above your elbow, speaking clearly, "Listen to me. I was going t'wait, but I think now's a good time."
"Good time for what, Tommy?" You growled, now just wanting to go to bed and hide from your emotions; hide from people; hide from reality.
"I have a new job for you, in the company," he smirked. "We're still getting things structured, but why don't you step away from the bar and come work for me now? Help us build what's left, and then transition into your company job?"
You paused, just staring at him in mild shock.
"You're kidding me, right?"
"Why would I joke?"
"You're... Offering me, what? Some job as your receptionist?"
"No, I was thinkin' something a little more paramount."
"Like what?"
"Like Chief of Operations?"
"COO?" You laughed, "For what company, Tommy?"
"Come home with me, we'll talk all about it," he bargained, "but if you accept, you've gotta quit The Garrison, love. We'll need your head in the game, no other distractions."
You felt something in your heart crack, asking, "What if you lot can't stand working with me, too?"
"Because of your hearing?"
"Or, you know, lack there of."
"Love," he smirked, "there's nothing you can do - intentionally or unintentionally - that would make any of us distance ourselves. If we get frustrated, it's not because you can't hear - it's never your disability, love."
"So, if you get frustrated, it's just, what? My personality?"
"More than likely," He grinned, arm snug around your waist again to walk down the snowy lane together. He laughed when your hand rose to pinch his side; squeezing his rib tightly, causing him to flinch and grunt lightly. "Hey, hey, easy with that," he chuckled, seeing your happy smile. "You all right, love? I know tonight was a lot, but... You feelin' any better?"
"I think so," you sighed. "The whiskey helps," you joked, raising the bottle to your lips.
"Mhm," he mused, taking the bottle after you.
"But present company helps more," you complimented softly. "You know, I'm sorry for today..."
"You're sorry that you couldn't hear a bunch of drunks in a packed-out pub?"
"Maybe?"
Tommy smirked, "Don't apologize, sweetheart. It's not your fault; like you say, it's not something you can control. I'm the one who's sorry you had to endure all of that... The lads got that guy pretty good."
"Good."
"And now you've a new job, yes?"
"After I hear about it," your eyes rolled in humor, taking the bottle back. "What's this big idea for a company anyway? What's it even called?"
"The Shelby Company Limited, and we're gonna change the whole of England, love."

TOMMY SHELBY MASTERLIST || MAIN MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
Tommy steps closer to Y/N, leaving barely an inch between as their argument grows more intense. “The only person my cock has been inside of is you. Are you really going to believe some whore over me?”
“It wasn’t some whore that told me, Tom,” she informs him, seeing Michael outside, listening intently to their shouts. “It was Michael.”
He steps back looking at her astounded. “The same fucking Michael that’s been trying to make my life a living fucking hell? Do you really believe a word that comes out of his fucking mouth?”
“He’s never had a reason to lie to me,” she says, turning her back to Tommy once again and storms out the door.
As soon as she’s outside, Michael approaches her, “Are you all right, Y/N.”
“I’m fine, Michael,” she tells him. “You best get to work.”
Before Michael can say anything more, she’s walking down the steps and away from the office.
When she gets to an alley, she ducks between the buildings, closes her eyes and takes a moment to breath. After a few minutes she hears footsteps approach and opens her eyes finding Tommy standing in front of her.
Once again, her husband is standing so close that there’s barely an inch between them. He moves a hand to her face, his thumb stroking her cheek. A small smile makes its way on to her face, enjoying his soft touch.
“Can’t we just tell Michael that he’ll never be able to get between us?”
“You have to admit, it’s more fun this way,” Tommy smirks.
“For you maybe,” she sighs. “I hate pretend fighting with you.”
“I’ll talk to him,” Tommy promises before pulling her in for a kiss.

Pretty Eyes
Tumblr media
Pairing: Tommy Shelby x Fem!Reader Word Count: 1.8k Warning: None A/n: Well, it’s been a hot minute, but I really just had an urge to write again. Sorry if this sucks, it's my first piece since trying to get over my writer's block but I feel pretty good about it.
All it took was a drunken compliment for Tommy Shelby to change his mind about his opinion on love and all it took was the help of one fortune teller to realise he couldn’t never lose that love.
Tommy believed he was man that couldn’t be loved, he believed that he didn’t deserve someone that would cherish him, but you made it your mission to change his mind. You had met Tommy not long after he returned from the war, you applied for the position of his secretary, and he couldn’t refuse once he saw your skills with a typewriter. You of course immediately thought he was a very attractive man, it was undeniable, but you’d be a fool not to notice his cold exterior. After months of working for Tommy, you had tried to get closer to Tommy, the furthest you had got was he now accepted you calling him ‘Tommy’ instead of ‘Mr Shelby’, but it was extremely hard to break through the walls he had put up. It wasn’t until one night after work at the Garrison that you finally broke down a wall.
Tumblr media
“Tommy!” You heard Arthur call out to his brother as he entered the bar, you were sat next to John in the private while Arthur had gone out to get the table more drink, stated that he wanted to stretch his legs. You had already had a few and were a bit tipsy so it wasn’t surprising that you got up at the sound of his name. You made your way over to the bar where Tommy and Arthur were ordering drinks.
“Let me buy you a drink boss” You offered as you stood in the middle of them, Tommy took in your slightly of balance form and smiled slightly.
“You know I own the place y/n, if anything I should get you a drink, but I don’t think it's wise”.
“Don’t ruin her fun Tom” Arthur slurred from the other side of you.
“No Arthur, Tommy’s right” you started, placing a hand on Arthur’s shoulder to steady yourself “I should get home, we have to work tomorrow after all. Tommy watched as you gave Arthur a soft pat on the shoulder before attempting to walked back to the private both to collect your coat and bag. Tommy sighed before throwing back the rest of his drink and putting his coat back on.
“Night Arthur” was all he said before he made his way over to you, he grabbed your coat and draped it over your shoulders. You could feel the heat rise to your cheeks at the gesture, but you knew he wouldn’t notice as your cheeks were already flushed from the alcohol you had consumed previously. You waved goodbye to everyone before leaving the bar with Tommy’s hand firmly secured on your lower back.
The walk back to your flat felt painfully slow but you had also never felt safer than you did with Tommy next to you, you would often catch him watching the shadows and alleyways. Before long you reached your flat, you fumbled through you bag to try and find your keys, but they were nowhere to be found. You let out a groaned as you gave up.
“I can't find my keys” Out of frustration your eyes started to well up, you had finally gotten Tommy back to your flat, but you couldn’t find your damn keys. You heard Tommy let out a soft chuckle and before you could turn around and cuss him out for laughing at you, he reached around you and into your bag, pulling out your keys.
“Oh…” You stared at them for a moment before grabbing them “Found them!” You cheered, earning another chuckle from Tommy, he was finding this whole display quite amusing. You finally got the key in the lock and opened the door, throwing your coat on the ground as soon as you entered.
“Where’s your room?” Tommy asked casually, this took you by surprise.
“Being very forward aren’t we Tommy?” You turned to face him, maybe a bit too quicky causing you to become quite dizzy. Tommy smiled and leaned down so his face was only inches from yours, you very quickly forgot how to breathe.
“So I can put you to bed” he explained, bringing you back to your senses.
“Oh right, of course” You quickly turned back around again, making you dizzy once again, this time you stumbled slightly but Tommy quickly caught you, holding you by your shoulders. “Down the hall to the left”
Tommy guided you down the hall and into your bedroom, the first thing he noticed was hour empty it was, it only held and bed and a dresser with a chipped mirror sitting atop it. He knew you didn’t live in luxury, neither did he but he expected more maybe more photos or perhaps more plants, he wasn’t sure. He guided you to your bed and helped you sit down on the edge.
“Where to you keep your night dresses?” He asked, you pointed to your dresser, and he made his way over there.
“Top draw” You quietly called out, now starting to realise the extent of you situation. Tommy grabbed a garment from the top draw and brought it over to you, you took it from him and looked up to see he had turned his back. You got up slowly and started to undress, highly aware of the gorgeous man starting only a few steps away from you. You pulled on your nightwear and looked over at Tommy.
“You can look now” He turned and found you trying to pull the covers of you bed down to get in, but you were struggling. He came over and pulled them up for you, allowing you to slip in underneath them, once you were in, he pulled them back up and pretty much tucked you in, you watched him with hooded eyes the whole time.
“You have very pretty eyes” You whispered before your eyes fluttered shut, before you were fully asleep, you felt a slight pressure on your forehead, making you scrunch your face up slightly in response. Tommy smiled seeing your reacted to the kiss he placed on your forehead, he stood there of a moment processing what you had just said to him. He watched as you drifted off to sleep, peaceful and oblivious to the way you just made him feel. He hadn’t been complimented on his eyes for a long time, the only and last person to compliment them was his mother. She always loved his eyes and as a boy he hated it, no young boy wants to be called pretty and he would always complain when she brought them up but after he lost her, he found himself longing to hear her say it. but instead, it was you, a persistent woman who he knew had been trying to find a way into his life, he swore he wouldn’t let you; he didn’t want the world he lived in to ruin you, but maybe he needed you to fit it, maybe he needed you to fix him.
Tumblr media
That night was six years ago, five years ago Tommy asked you to be his wife and not long after you were married, you fell pregnant with your first child Charlie, then nearly two years ago you fell pregnant with your second child, your daughter Anna. You never knew the moment Tommy Shelby fell in love with you, you had asked a few times but he usually just shrugged it off, you had always wondered why, it wasn’t until your wedding night that he told you it was when you called his eyes pretty, you were baffled because you didn’t remember telling him that but then he told you the story and you had never felt more shame but you also never knew the impact those five small words had on Tommy. One night while the two of were getting ready for bed he suddenly spoke.
“Do you know the moment I realised I couldn’t live without you?” The question took you by surprise.
“When I told you your eyes were pretty?” You asked, looking at him in the mirror as you brushed your hair.
“No, that’s when I realised I loved you, I’m talking about when I realised my world revolved around you and I vowed to myself to never lose you” He explained as he came up behind you, nuzzling his head into your neck, his wet hair from his bath brushing your cheek.
“No?” you didn’t quite know what to say. He lifted his head from you neck, meeting your eyes in the mirror.
“I went to see a fortune teller” he said simply.
“You did what?” you spun around it your seat to face him, he smiled and grabbed your face in his hands, looking down at you.
“A friend of Polly’s, it was not long after Anna was born, some lowlife gangster had threatened your life and I was having second thoughts on if I was doing the right thing, putting you in danger by loving you and I just needed any kind of advice, I don’t know why I went to her, but I did” He explained.
“What did she say?” you asked, still looking up at him.
Tumblr media
“If I told you that your life was supposed to turn out differently, to change, would you want it to?”
In that moment Tommy saw you, lying in his arms, looking at him with that look of adoration that you only reserve for him, then he thinks of his children, the ones you blessed him with, the way his son smiles at him, how he sees his father as a normal man and not a monster and his precious daughter, how she lights up whenever he is around her, how she cries to him when she’s upset, knowing that her father will always protect her from her fears.
“No” was all Tommy said.
“That is why I won’t read your fortune, there is no point. You’re where you’re supposed to be already, you’re a troubled man and you can’t lose what keeps you grounded”.
Tommy knew she was right, he was scared to lose you but if he pushed you away, he’d lose you anyway, your safest place was with him, he belonged with you and he wasn’t going to let anyone change that, not even himself.
Tumblr media
“She’s a wise woman” You joked, smiling up at him.
“Of course you would think that love” Tommy leaned down, placing a kiss on your forehead before heading over to bed. You finished brushing your hair and joined him.
“I want you to feel safe” You lifted you head from its resting place on his chest and rested your chin there instead, looking up at him.
“I am safe with you” You whispered, looking into those pretty eyes your adored so much.

Affection
Pairing: Thomas Shelby x GN!Reader
Warnings: None
Words: 267
Tumblr media
It was a slow day in the Shelby household. Thomas was in his office, working on paperwork again. You were also in his office, knitting on the loveseat. Charlie was on the floor, playing a toy train.
You hummed quietly to yourself as you knitted a scarf, every once in awhile looking up to look at Charlie and then Thomas.
Soon enough, one of the maids came in with afternoon tea and dropped it off at the small table in front of the loveseat. You smiled at the maid and thanked her softly. Setting your work down, you sat up and leaned over to make a small plate of the small sandwiches the maid had made Charlie. You placed it in front of him when he came over to the table.
“Here you go, darlin.” You smiled at him and ran a hand over his head. Kissing his forehead, you set about making Thomas a cuppa. You then brought it over to him and stood behind him. Setting the cup down next to his work so it wouldn’t get on his paperwork.
You then wrapped your arms around his neck and kissed just behind his ear. He leaned back into you and sighed contently. He raised a hand up to hold your arm.
“What is this?” He spoke softly.
You grinned gently. “Affection.” You teased him.
He chuckled and teased back “Disgusting.”
You both chuckled for a moment. Followed by a brief silence.
“Do it again.” He whispered into your ear with a small growl.
You flushed and grinned wider before leaning in to kiss him passionately.

Summary: As stated in the request above.
A/n: Some facts and timelines have been adjusted to better fit this story. P.s I am aware I'm insanely late. I am honestly sorry for it, however ya girl's got issues.
Tumblr media
The streets were still empty considering the early hours of the morning.
The woman hunched over the blanketed lump in her hands. Shivering, the old woman opened the door, wondering who in the devil was at the door of an orphanage at nearly dawn.
And all she could do was gasp at the sight of the shriveled woman, her hair astray holding a new born child in her arms.
Ethel thought of that night 4 years ago often, she'd been new at the orphanage then, had just started 2 days prior and she didn't expect such sadness within her first week working there.
The little girl had been the tamest little child she'd come across. The other older children at the orphanage marveled at the tiny blue eyed baby.
She watched the little girl open her eyes and gaze at the ceiling, she watched her gurgle and she looked at the candle light and she heard her squeal as she asked Ms. Ruth her name "Edith, woman that left her here said her name was to be Edith", and she watched Edith take her first steps and heard her mumble her first words "No!" Edith squealed when Ethel tried to feed her some more of the thick porridge.
They spoke of the woman often at the orphanage. Wondering who she was and why she had left a newborn alone with no family. But no one, no matter how long they stood by the window at the orphanage, no one saw the woman again nor did anyone come for the child.
But the other 9 children at the orphanage had accepted Edith as their own. Treating her as their own little sister. The 5 boys would let her sit in a wooden crate and would push her around till she was a squealing and giggling mess. When she was 3, the boys would steal her some sweets from the kitchen, fourteen year old Jack made alterations to 10 year old Anna's old dress to fit Edith.
She had become the light joy of those children's lives, without even knowing it.
Edith was a wanderer. She'd wandered into the few big rooms, into the kitchen, into the backyard where Ms. Ruth had been adjusting the wet clothes on the clothes line and she'd even wandered out of the orphanage on one occasion.
She'd wandered out onto the street when the door had been briefly left ajar. She gazed up at the tall figures she'd never seen before. At the noise she'd only heard rarely when Ethel let her accompany her on errands.
"And who are you gorgeous?" Edith hadn't ever seen this woman before, but she giggled at the sight of the woman in a funny hat.
"Edis" pushing her hair out of her face, Edith looked at the woman who'd bent down to talk to her better.
"and where's your mother?" the woman asked.
"There" she smiled, pointing to the building behind her, and then turned her attention to the woman's gloved hands.
"Well why don't we get you back there safely eh?" extending her hand to the child, the woman led Edith back. "What's your name?" Edith asked, her blue eyes wide.
"Oh I'm Polly but you can call me Pol" she teased, couldn't help looking at Edith curiously.
"Ok Pol" Edith shifted her attention to the horse they walked past.
"prettyy" the little girl gasped at the sight of the big dark horse that leaned its head down a little closer to the young girl.
"and who is this Pol?" at the sound of the gruff voice, Edith snapped her head up at the man speaking, looking at him in wonder.
"Her names Edith" Pol looked at the man "and she decided to wander out" Pol teased making the little girl let out a shy giggle.
Edith didn't hear the man's response, instead she focused on the horse in front of her and only looked away when Pol ushered away towards the orphanage.
As Pol held Edith's hand, she occasionally looked over at the little girl. But once the two were right outside the orphanage door, she bent down to level with the 4 year old and said "well you'd better get inside before you get in trouble sweetheart" Pol caressed Edith's cheek as the door was frantically opened- practically thrown off its hinges by a frantic looking boy who opened his mouth to say something but stopped upon seeing the company right outside the door.
"Bloody hell Edith!" He bent down and hugged her tight, then looked up at the woman.
"Thank you er-"
"Don't worry, you'll know me name soon enough I suppose" Pol smiled leaving James confused but he didn't think too much of it, only grateful that the little girl was safe.
"What were you doing outside?!" jack exclaimed gently holding her shoulders.
Ethel and Ms. Ruth both came running to Edith, each crying out in relief.
"Where'd you bloody go?" Ms. Ruth picked up Edith who simply giggled unaware of the chaos that ensued inside the orphanage when no one could find the little girl.
On the other side of the orphanage door however, Pol had just walked up to her nephew, letting him know she'd see him at the betting shop and then disappeared down the street.
She couldn't help but continue to think of the little girl she'd met. Her blue eyes, they were the color of the ocean on a warm sunny day.
"The color of blue daisies" she whispered to Martha, holding Finn. The color she prayed to see once again. Polly knew the Martha Shelby's eyes anywhere. She saw her sister-in-law in her nephews eyes, she saw them in her niece and now; she saw them in Edith.
Pol had always wondered why Martha refused to come around to the house anymore months before she passed away. Thinking to herself of where she could possibly find a definite answer she headed to the one place she hoped would answer some questions. Polly knew Martha wouldn't have kept any trace of it in her own house, but what confused her further was why she'd given up a child.
She knew her sister-in-law, she knew Martha would've never gone to the hospital had she been pregnant.
Clenching her fists walking up to the door Polly sent up a silent prayer, praying she would find something useful here. Waiting after she had knocked twice, Pol heard the door open and stood in front of Martha's neighbor, Helen; the only woman Polly could think of who was as stubborn as they come.
Helen was a woman of small stature, she stood in a grey dress and had the same look of adamancy as she had 4 years ago.
"Took you long enough to bloody come" Helen grumbled letting Polly in without a question.
"You've done well for yourself" Pol said her taking in Helen's house.
"I haven't, my husband has though of course" she winked making Pol snort.
"So why are you here?" Helen asked
"I need to ask you, did you see Martha within the last few months before she died?" Pol knew Helen had always been adamant on checking up on Martha, making sure she was alright. Even when Martha began pushing everyone away, it was Helen who had still argued her way into Martha's home. It was Helen, after all, who had found out something was wrong when Martha hadn't come home the night they found her body in the cut.
"I did" Helen sat down offering Polly a cigarette, who denied, and lit one for herself.
"was she-"
"she was pregnant yes, helped deliver the child meself" Pol's eyes widened at Helens revelation. Helen continued looking ahead, letting out of puffs of smoke.
"And you didn't bloody say a thing!" Pol looked at her incredulously.
"Martha made me swear not to tell a soul unless I was asked" turning to Pol "I'm sure it wasn't an epiphany that brought you here out of the blue"
"four years" Pol let out a breath "that little girl has been there alone, for 4 years"
"Not alone" Helen said "checked on her every now and then, children at the orphanage love her" she let out a puff of smoke.
Pol continued standing near the table "suppose that life maybe better than the one with us" she finally pulled a chair out and slowly let herself sit down, letting the realization sink in.
"until some family that's far worse than yours decides to take her in" Helen snorted, letting her gaze fall on the window.
"Fuck" Polly muttered. Closing her eyes for a second, she knew the other families in small heath were scarcely much better. She knew of dwelled amongst the neighboring families. She knew of the pain and abuse, the nightmares she'd heard stories of.
"I'll bring her over sometime then" Pol said quickly walking to the door and then rushing out.
She didn't wait to hear Helen's response. Instead she went straight to the betting shop.
"Tommy" she called, everyone moved out of her way as she headed for Tommy's office and opened his door, without knocking.
Looking up irritated, Tommy adjusted his collar, waiting for Polly to speak.
"need to gather the family at home" she said.
"Why?"
"Because apparently you have a fucking sister"
"Pol, have you been drinking?" Tommy risked.
"BESIDES ADA" Polly snapped
He wasn't sure what Pol was talking about "what"
Pol sat and, rather impatiently, explained to Tommy about Edith. With each word Pol uttered, Tommy found himself breathing heavier.
This whole time, he had a four year old sister who'd been living in an orphanage. An orphanage that was minutes away, he had a four year old sister he had been minutes away from for four years and he hadn't a clue.
Tommy didn't know much of what had happened to his mother within the last year of her life. His mother had forced the children to go live with Aunt Pol, and they didn't see too much for her during her last year. And then one night his Aunt had woken him and his siblings up, with their drenched then neighbor at their front door, telling them their mother was gone.
Tommy had already made up his mind.
He left his study and approached John "John, gather everyone and meet us at home, Pol and I will be there in a bit" Not waiting for a response he and Pol left the betting shop.
They were going to bring Edith home.
There was a lot more to bringing a four year old into their care, they knew this. But they'd deal with it once they knew that the little girl was in their care.
Ethel hadn't let Edith out of her sight all day. She was far too scared. They were beyond lucky that the kind woman had brought Edith right back, but it may not necessarily be the case, should this happen again.
There wasn't much to do at the orphanage, but the children all made do.
Ms. Ruth was teaching the older children, and seeing as Edith was the only four year old, Ethel would have to begin teaching her letters soon.
So while the rest of the children were occupied, Ethel was the one to rise out of her chair with Edith rushing over to hold her hand when someone had come in to the front of the orphanage.
Opening the door Ethel looked up at the woman standing with a small smile while a man stood next to her who's gaze immediately fell onto to Edith.
Edith's eyes brightened when she looked up at the two grown ups, and smiled when she noticed Pol.
"Yes?" Ethel inquired, tightening her grip on Edith's hand.
"I'm Polly, we're here to talk to you about little Edith here" she smiled kindly at Edith, who looked up at her.
Tommy looked around the orphanage, trying to understand where his little sister had been living this whole time.
Hoping that the last four years had been kind to the little girl.
He heard the muffled noise of Pol talking to Ethel in the other room, while he observed the room.
"This my horsey" he snapped his head in the direction of the voice, looking down behind him to find Edith on the floor, holding a white horse toy.
"This is your horse eh?" Tommy squatted and took off his hat, holding it he looked at the few toys strewn in front of him.
"uh huh" she held the toy horse out, pushing it into the grown mans hands.
putting his hat down, he held the toy in his hand, turning it over to see it was obviously an old worn toy. "does your horse have a name?" Tommy raised his brows.
Edith let out a huff, then hummed, making a small smile tug at the corners of Tommy's lips "well I name him Horsey, but Jack said I can't call him that because that is not a name" she hummed again.
Tommy fully smiled this time at his little sisters little dilemma "hm, well sounds like you're very worried about his name"
"Cause!" Edith exclaimed looking at Tommy with her big blue eyes "he need a name!"
"I don't know your name" Edith said.
So he told her his name and sat for over 10 minutes, giving her one name after the other, but she hated every single one. Tommy even threw in his brothers names, wondering if any of those would appeal to the little girl. Until he heard footsteps approaching, then he looked up at his Aunt, who stood int he door way with teary eyes and a smile.
Edith looked up to see Ethel walk in behind Pol with shaking hands. Kneeling down, she picked up Edith and went into a different room, leaving Tommy and Pol alone.
"Well sweetheart" Ethel started "You remember Pol" Edith nodded enthusiastically.
Ethel continued "Well, you're going to be part of her family now"
Edith looked sad for a few minutes, but there was only so much sadness a four year old could comprehend "Can I still come see you?"
"of course, we'll be right here, and you can come visit anytime"
Ethel had of course informed Ms. Ruth and the children about Edith, which led to tears from all the children and even a few from Ms. Ruth.
While Ellie had made Edith promise she wouldn't forget them and Jack promised to sew her some new dresses, Ethel and Ms. Ruth were packing up Edith's few belongings.
When Edith was finally ready to go, Pol turned around to look at Ms.Ruth and Ethel while Tommy led his little sister outside.
"Thank you, for being kind to her" Pol didn't wait for a response but walked out.
"HORSEY!" Edith ran to pet the horse Tommy led her to, and then he asked "would you like to ride her home?" when Edith squealed yes, Tommy climbed onto the horse then Pol gently helped Edith onto the horse, placing her in front of Tommy and he slid one arm around his giddy four year old sister and the other held the horses reign.
The people of Small heath observed Tommy Shelby, the notorious leader of the ruthless gang, the peaky blinders, pass them with a giggling and squealing child holding onto his arm.
And Edith squeal louder when Tommy carefully lifted her off of the horse and gently put her down in front of the Garrison. It did occur to him that the pub was an odd place to bring a child, but seeing as that he and his family owned it, he wasn't too concerned.
"where are we?" Edith looked up at Tommy.
Pol walked up behind Tommy "We, are going to meet the rest of your brothers and your sister"
But Edith wasn't listening, she'd turned to continue petting the horse that had bent it's head a little lower, enjoying the soft little hand that patted his head.
Tommy shook his head at how easily the child was distracted and he turned to Pol "I'll walk the horse to Curly's with her"
With a nod and a quick glance at Edith, Pol walked towards the house and Tommy squatted down next to Edith "want to come with me and see a few more horses first?" He put his large palm on his sisters back.
"MORE HORSEYS?!" Tommy shifted slightly at Edith practically screaming with excitement in his ear.
"I think you and Arthur will get a long great"
He let Edith hold the horses reign and walk him inside the shed and he trailed next to her.
Edith suddenly let go of the horses reign and let out a scream, making Tommy reflexively reach for his gun and reach out for Edith with his other hand...until he noticed Edith running to the shinning brown mare in the stable. She ran to it squealing and almost tripping over some hay, while Tommy tried to calm his heart. He'd been with Edith for less than a day and she'd already almost given him a stroke.
"Wh- Tommy" Curly walked inside, looking curiously at the child engaged in a very serious conversation with the horse and at the man looking who looked pale.
"Tom- where'd the child come from?" Curly wondered.
Tommy gave a little smile "This Curly, is the newest member of our family" he walked to Edith, and put his hand on her shoulder, not sure if the four year old would be comfortable with him picking her up "Edith meet Curly, Curly this is Edith, our little sister, eh" he looked down at Edith, teasing her.
"Yeah! sister!" Edith bossed.
Curly chuckled at the little display of defiance as Edith looked up at him.
"Uh-" he was still very confused, so Tommy told him he'd explain later, in the meanwhile both men looked at the four year old that almost put her finger in the horses nose and Tommy immediately gently stopped her "Now why would you try to do that?" Tommy inquired, amused.
"Want to see if its like mine" Edith looked disappointed Tommy had stopped her.
Shaking his head, he held out his hand for his sister to hold and led her out, letting Curly know he'd see him later.
Tommy watched Edith's blue curious eyes observe the surroundings. He wondered if he could truly give her a better life. Could he possibly keep her safe? was it the wrong decision to take her out of the orphanage only to bring her into their lives, the one's where they were being targeted almost every single day?
But, Tommy realized, it was risk they'd have to take. He couldn't, as he was sure neither could his family, just get on with their lives knowing they had a four year old sister in the orphanage.
Leading her towards the door of the house, Tommy pushed open the door and led Edith inside.
Tommy almost toppled over Edith's small frame in front of him when he shut the door and turned- she had just stood still, not having taken another step further.
He shifted to look at her face, her eyes wide and her mouth open, Edith turned to Tommy "this is your house?" she gasped.
Tommy frowned, he was pretty sure there was nothing great about the house they were living in. The stairs creaked, the windows stained, the furniture was old and dusty and it was always dark in the house irrespective of the sunlight.
not saying a word, Tommy hummed in response to his sisters question.
"Can I live with you?" she whispered, her mouth still wide open as she ran up to the small table near the stairs with flowers in it.
Tommy chuckled "only if you want to" and he meant it.
"Come on" he ushered Edith into the kitchen, where she saw three men sitting at the table, two of whom were bickering about something, and there was one woman who sat quietly and Pol, who stood near the tabletop.
Both the men, that Edith didn't know, stopped fighting, and all five heads turned to her and Tommy.
Her ears burned at the attention, and she shifted slightly behind Tommy's leg to hide.
Tommy, thankfully, didn't force her to move in front or stop hiding in anyway, instead he just continued letting her hide and said "this is Edith, Pol-" Tommy looked at his aunt.
"I've already told them all about little Edith here, especially her being so troublesome!" Pol teased, smiling fondly at Edith, who's eyes grew wide at the woman's accusation. "That's not trueee!" she shrieked, then hid further behind Tommy's leg realizing she'd just brought more attention to herself.
"It's not?" Pol asked
Hesitating for a few seconds, Edith responded with a small shy 'no'.
"I'm Arthur, I'm the funny one eh" Edith turned to look at the man with the glass in his hand, he outstretched his hand towards her to shake.
She crept forward and loosely shook his hand.
"Oh! You've got a strong grip haven't yeah" Arthur joked, making Edith giggle.
"Edith" Tommy said softly "this is Finn and that's John, and that over there" he pointed at Ada who'd been looking at Edith adoringly "is your sister, Ada"
Edith looked at Ada "how come only one sister?"
To which the girl Edith was now aware was her sister, Ada, snorted "I've been wondering the same for years sweetheart, but now I've got you, it seems" she smiled kindly.
Finn and John leaned closer to Edith, and made small talk. John immediately asking her who Jack was when Edith mentioned Jack had gifted her a dress.
At one point when Ada asked John and Arthur to shut up about Jack, and poor Finn was trying to get a word in on the sparring between his siblings, Edith had moved back next to Tommy, and tugged at his hand gently.
At the feel of her tiny warm finger wrapping around his index finger, Tommy looked down at Edith, who then outstretched her arms towards her big brother. Indicating she wanted to be picked up.
His heart, Tommy was sure, would combust with the amount of love he had already felt for his little sister, who he had only known for a day.
Picking her up gently, Tommy wrapped an arm around her. Rubbing soothing circles on her small back. Edith rested her cheek against his shoulder as she watched the rest of her siblings bickering.
Pol, who'd been watching silently, wiped her teary eyes at the sight of Edith and Tommy.
"Oi, you've got favorites already have you?!" Arthur exclaimed when he noticed Edith and Tommy. Tommy rolled his eyes at Arthur, hoping his older brother wouldn't ruin the moment between him and his sister.
Immediately lifting her head, she looked down at Arthur," no, he's just very quiet" she smiled, not noticing Arthur's wide offended eyes. With his siblings all laughing with the exception of Tommy and Pol, who chuckled, Arthur turned to Edith again.
"and I'm not?"
"mmm no"
"come one Arthur, I'm obviously Edith's favorite, it would be me, isn't it ?" John looked at Edith, eyebrows raised.
"mmm well my horsey and you have the same name"
"that doesn't mea- hang on, you named your horse the same name as me? when?"
"today" Edith said innocently, not knowing what john was getting at.
Finn burst out laughing "you've got a horses name John"
Tommy let out a huff, almost laughing himself, Arthur snorted. John shook his head "right"
The sudden attention from people she'd just met had begun to make her shy and overwhelmed, Tommy noticed, when Edith began squirming in his arms. With the one free hand that wasn't holding Edith, he rubbed small circles on her back again, this time moving towards the empty hallway.
"right, let's get the little lady adjusted eh" Tommy hinted at his family towards Edith's discomfort. Arthur stood up, along with Ada, volunteering to help.
Pol looked at them "I'll be up in a minute"
Ada took Edith's little bag that Pol had left on the sofa, deciding she would put them away.
Finn had been moved into Arthur's room, John had run over to his house and had gotten quite a few of his children's old toys, and Finn had contributed further by giving some of his things for his new sister too. He'd left behind some color crayons and papers for her.
At Edith's request Tommy put her down at the bottom of the stairs. And she grabbed his big hands in her own and walked up the stairs with him. She climbed up the stairs one stair at a time, climbing up each one with a huffs that made Tommy smile. When they'd finally gotten to the top of the stairs, she waited for her older brother to guide her towards her room.
It surprised Tommy that Edith wasn't running around, like he'd expect a four year old to. Instead she stood there, looking up at him with her blue eyes wide.
So he led her to her room. That he noticed his siblings had done their best to make suitable for a four year old.
"only my room?" Edith looked at the room. Her bed she noticed had a white sheet with a floral print. There was a small dresser and a wooden closet.
Tommy said "yes"
"um" she wasn't sure how to tell him. she didn't want him to think she was a baby.
"what is it?" his eyes softened, Tommy bent down to reach Edith's level.
"well, I don't like to sleep alone" she murmured, shifting on her toes, Edith avoided looking at Tommy.
Letting out a breath, Tommy stood up and hummed. "It's alright" he wasn't sure if this was a good idea, but Arthur and Finn already share a room, Pol sometimes came home late and Ada had been sneaking out somewhere in the night lately
"Alright, you can sleep in my room then, is that alright?"

Angel | Tommy Shelby (Dark/Angst)
A/N: I was planning on writing something totally different but suddenly this idea came up and I decided to go with it. I put it together pretty fast so I hope it doesn’t feel too rushed. I guess you can count this one as a dark fic. Otherwise it’s just a lot of angst. The ending was supposed to be more comforting but I decided I wanted more angst so I’m here to break your hearts.
Warning: DARK/ANGST. Mentions of blood, fighting, dying, death, loss, war, mild swearing. Just a pretty dark fic in general.
Word count: 1208
Tumblr media
The tunnels were dark and breathing became hard. Tommy and his comrades were doing their best to keep as quiet as possible. The pounding of his heart was clearly present in his ears, he was terrified. Terrified to die in these horrible tunnels they were digging.
He tried to think about things that kept him sane but his mind was racing. He didn’t want to show his comrades that he was afraid, he was a leader and leaders can’t be cowards.
He held the lamp in front of him as he heard the digging on the other side of the walls, his hand shaking of fear. They were close and he knew it. He heard their muffled voices as he glanced quickly over to his men behind him. Not just his men but his friends, all from Small Heath, he had known them for years. Freddie, Danny, Barney, they were all there. He could see the panic in their eyes.
His eyes focused back on the sand that was dropping from the walls in front of him as he held his breath. His grip on the lamp tightened as he heard voices becoming less and less muffled.
Suddenly the barrier between them and the voices broke. A soldier attacked him. He heard the shouts of his comrades while he tried to fight the man off. Danny tried to help Tommy but a shot rang trough the small tunnel, he heard Danny scream in pain.
Tommy tried to reach for them, for something but he wasn’t able to. Another shot was heard and screams of both Danny and Freddie filled the tunnels. He was still fighting the soldier that was on top of him. He felt a sharp pain in his chest and stomach. Tommy reached for his chest and felt some kind of liquid sticking to his hand.
He was trapped and realized that he had been stabbed. Another shot rang and the screams intensified. All he could hear were the unbearable noises of his dying friends, making it hard for him to concentrate. The soldier saw his chance and squeezed Tommy’s throat tightly, choking him.
Tommy grabbed his arms, trying to tear the hands off his throat. He struggled as the air in his lungs was cut off, tears forming in his eyes from the pressure. He needed to fight harder, he needed to safe his friends.
The volume of the screams started to fade and a few seconds later it was quiet. Tommy’s hands found the blade the soldier had stabbed him with and cut his face. The man screamed in agony and let go of his throat.
Tommy pushed him off, stabbing the man multiple times. Rage raced trough his body, he kept going until the man didn’t respond anymore.
Tommy stared at the body, breathing heavily. Reality hit him as he dropped the blade, quickly looking over to his comrades. They layed on the ground, mud and blood covering their bodies. He crawled over to them, panic washing over him as he tried to wake them.
They weren’t responding. None of them. Tommy screamed at them to wake up, to get out. They didn’t move.
A rumbling sound was coming trough the tunnel as sand fell down on him. He tried to drag his men back but it was too heavy for him to do it on his own.
He needed to get out of the tunnel as soon as possible but he couldn’t leave his comrades, his friends. Tears streamed down his face as he was begging them to wake up.
The tunnel collapsed in front of him, burying some of the bodies. Tommy tried to flee to the other side but got trapped under another part of the tunnel that collapsed on top of him.
He tried to crawl out of it but before he had a chance he was buried in pure darkness. The sand was slowly suffocating him and there was no way to escape.
He was left to die in the mud. He had failed his men and he had failed himself.
Suddenly he felt a hand brushing over his chest, then he felt the same on his shoulder, followed by a squeeze. A soft voice was heard somewhere in the distance but he couldn’t make up who it was.
The voice came closer, it was soothing. He was still surrounded by nothing but pitch black and the sand was still suffocating him. “Tommy?” It was the voice again. Was he dead already? He must be. The voice was soft and silvery, only an angel would have such a voice and he certainly wouldn’t go to heaven.
“Tommy, please.” He shot up, his eyes wide and breath heavy. He looked around and found himself in bed, his wife next to him. She had a worried look on her face. Did he take her with him? He couldn’t remember he saw her face in the tunnels.
“Tommy” She said softly. “I’m here, you’re safe.” She added, stroking his hair. A small, reassuring smile on her face.
“They all died.” Tommy mumbled while he grabbed her hand, staring at her face. “It’s not your fault.” She told him softly. “We’re not dead. Are we?” He asked her, a hint of hesitate in his voice.
“You’re not, love.” She assured him. Tommy let go of her hand and rubbed his face, pressing his palms against his eyes. As soon as he closed his eyes, the memories came flooding back in.
“Fuck.” He mumbled, he removed his hands from his face and looked back at her. She was gone.
He called out her name but got no response. He decided to get up and look for her downstairs. A faint light came from under his office door. What the hell would she be doing there?
He entered his office, hoping he would find her there but he didn’t. He made his way to his desk, his eyes fell on the ring that was stored carefully next to a picture of her.
It was her wedding ring. He knew he was missing something when he held her hand. He sat down in his chair, staring at the picture in front of him. He took a cigarette from the case that was laying on his desk, lighting it.
It had been months since she had passed. Her death was sudden, a mistake and he blamed himself for it. He missed her so much, she was the only one to keep him sane at times. She always knew how to help him, how to calm him down.
She still tried to, once in a while she visited him.
He wished she could stay a little longer, to comfort him and tell him that she loved him. And then he could tell her how much he loved her, how much she meant to him. He regretted that he didn’t tell her that more often.
But she left all too quickly. He couldn’t blame her, at least she still took the time to come tell him that he was safe, to wake him from his horrible nightmares. He was happy to see her face, even though it was just for a minute.
Hopefully she would come back soon.

Maybe something funny/fluffy, a sort of misunderstanding? Or it could be serious too! whichever works
Anyways I love your writing and I love reading them! 💕

Finding the right time to tell Tommy you were pregnant seemed impossible. If business did not occupy his mind, distractions flooded in to ruin the moment. This afternoon marked your fourth attempt to tell your husband the news. While Tommy was upstairs conducting business with Arthur and John, you joined Polly in the kitchen, a cup of tea cooling on the table.
"When will you tell Tommy?".
"When he stands still for more than a minute".
Polly chuckled. "Good luck with that. How's the nausea been?".
You grimaced. Even thinking about morning sickness made you ill. "Not so bad".
"Liar".
You smiled. Nothing got past Polly. Tommy arrived, leaning on the threshold, lighting a cigarette. Glancing at Polly, her eyes sparkled, encouraging you that now was the time. He was finally standing still for more than a minute.
"Drink". Polly stood as she sternly yet lovingly instructed. "I'll come by later to drop some more off".
"Thanks, Pol".
Once the green double doors closed, Tommy spoke. "What was that about, eh?".
"Polly's special tea for my upset stomach. It's been bothering me for a few days now". You hinted.
"If it gets any worse, I'll call the doctor".
"No need". Taking a sip of tea, you added. "It'll come and go over the next few months".
Tommy inhaled the nicotine, not quite catching on. "I don't like the sound of that, love. I'll call the doctor. He'll figure out what's causing your upset stomach”.
"Well, my husband is the cause".
He blinked, still not registering your meaning. "Whatever I did, I will make it up to you when we go home".
"Upset stomach. Polly's special tea. A few nights go. Ringing any bells, Tommy?".
"Whatever you want to tell me, love, just tell me. I'm in no mood for guessing games".
For a smart man, Tommy sure did have his moments. Looking up at your husband, you lightly joked. "Tommy, I love you, but you are so goddamn stupid sometimes". He glanced your way, face stone-cold serious. Standing, you placed a light kiss on his lips. "I'm pregnant".
Stroking your cheek, he whispered. "Pregnant, eh? That is most definitely my doing". You laughed. “Tomorrow, I'll call the doctor to make sure everything is as it should be. And keep drinking the tea to help with your stomach, alright?".
"Tommy, I'm barely two weeks".
"Doesn't matter. Your health as well as the baby is top priority".
"Already in over-protective mode".
He smiled, kissing you with softness that caused your heart to flutter. "When it comes to you, always. Come on, I'll drive you home".
Taking your hand, Tommy escorted you out of the Betting shop and safely home.

Dessert Before Dinner
Tumblr media
Summary: Tommy catches you sucking on a lollipop and he can’t let that go.
warnings: smut smut smut, incest, oral (female receiving), tommy creaming his pants, inappropriate use of candy, reader is tommy’s sister
The circular, hypnotizing movement of your tongue around the sugared sweet, and the way your lips curled over the tip so innocently retrieved Tommy’s longing stare from across the room.
His cock was hardening in his trousers from the poetic, sensual scene taking place before him.
Your e/c eyes scanned up, staring into his electric blue eyes with profound sexual intent.
No one seemed to notice the building desire, the fire building in Tommy’s crotch.
These were the games you loved to play, every singular day. Tommy all worked up before the family, wanting him to burst at the seams and have his way with you.
He nodded toward the stairs, a sly smirk spread across his lips as he put out his cigarette, the smoke dispelling into the atmosphere before he followed your ‘innocent’ footsteps up to your bedroom, that he was far too familiarized with for a brother.
Closing the door behind him, the cherry sucker sat sweetly between your glossed plump lips as you shed yourself of your robe.
Revealing the smooth, delectable figure of your nude body, leaving your brother breathless. You were a sight for sore eyes.
“Lay down my darling.” You did as he said. His tongue lapped over his lips when you spread your legs, revealing your dripping cunt, shining like a golden treasure in the lost sea.
He crawled on his hands and knees, stretching up toward your face between your opened legs.
He slowly shuffled his arm, popping the lollipop out from your desirable lips, his breath hot against your face, smelling of brimstone and peppermint.
In a moment of silence, you stared at each other with animalistic eyes, his chest resting against your cleavage, his erect, enclosed member pressed tightly against your throbbing pink pussy.
“You know the rules Y/N, no sweets before dinner.” He didn’t remove his pants, instead he trailed the sugary, sticky treat down your throat, riding agonizingly slowly between your heavenly, cushioned breasts, down your naval until he reached his coveted destination.
You were unable to hold back a gasp, your head falling effortlessly to the side of the pillow until his hand pulled your chin back to face him.
He pressed the sucker against your clit, rubbing the sensitive area with the cherry dessert. He watched intently as your eyes fluttered shut, watching the breath hitch in your throat, and your chest rise slowly.
His free hand rested upon your hardened nipple, rolling the sensitive skin between his experienced fingers. “Tommy..” Your voice was heavenly, laced with arousal and desperation for your dear brother.
He dove down like a sweet serenade between your thighs, his lips connecting with your clit as he pushed the lollipop into your sweet succulency.
“Ohh, oh Tommy..” His lips curled in desire as he watched the lollipop disappear, your walls coating the sugary sweet treat with your nectar.
You could feel the circular shaped treat rub against your sensitive skin slowly at first.
He knew your pussy like the back of his hand, knew how to push you over the edge wanting to hear you beg him for more.
Your eyes opened slowly in a desirable gaze. Always playing the purity act, a good little girl but you both knew that wasn’t true.
“More- more please.” His eyebrows raised with infatuation, pushing the candy further in, massaging your aching core.
His tongue twirled deep into your dripping hole, lapping up your savory, delectable cherry juices, his eyes darkening when he glanced up, watching how you were completely losing yourself. He couldn’t stop himself from grinding down for friction against the satin sheets. Your hands clutched your feathery pillow desperately, your lips agape, melodic, lustful moans escaping from the profound, overwhelming feeling of his tongue, completely devouring your beautiful, over stimulated pussy. He didn’t miss a singular beat, rotating between sucking against your lips, leaving playful bites behind as he moved to your clit.
The candied sweet, becoming coated in your slick, as he quickened his motions, the hardened dessert drilling into your tight hole relentlessly. His tongue flicking in an up and down motion, before returning to the pool of slick leaving your body, sucking you dry, covering his face, in your insatiable, soaking mess.
“Tom- Tommy I’m gonna-“ Your ankles shifted over his legs, your body trembling as your back arched to a perfect curve, pure ecstacy running up your spine, leaving your body in a coma-like euphoria.
“F-f-fuck, oh- fuck-“ His hands clutched your thighs roughly while he devoured your alluring, eager pussy, spilling it’s drenching slik all over Tommy’s experienced lips.
He simultaneously released himself, his moans pressed against your pussy as his warm seed spilled out in his underwear in a sticky, poetic mess.
Pulling the sucker out of your divine tunnel of pleasure, he layed the cherry sucker, coated in your mesmerizing taste of excellency, on his tongue, sucking up the remnants.
You watched his motions in a trance, his blue eyes turning a devilish, frigid shade of blue when he leaned down, locking eyes in a wistful, fucked out haze. “Let’s go to dinner shall we?”

Point blank - Thomas Shelby
Summary: When you are held at gunpoint by one of Tommy's many enemies, he must come to terms with his feelings.
Warnings: being held at gunpoint (obvi), blood, violence, language, suggestive content. Not spell checked at all so beware.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The cool metal against the side of your skull wasn't exactly the feeling you had hoped for as the night dragged on. You'd thought about many things, and many people that could bring you pleasure and fun, and you'd thought of a warm bed you would love to curl up in when it got too late to stay awake. But this, the gun pressed firmly to your head, had not been one of the sensations you'd hoped for.
"Call him outside," the man holding the gun shouted to a maid who had stumbled upon the scene. She'd clearly stepped out of the Shelby estate in the hopes of a smoke break, as had you, but was met with a more than shocking ordeal. Tommy's side piece, as many had called you, held at gunpoint by an angry stranger.
She ran ahead inside, and you knew Tommy would be out in a matter of minutes. This was a regular sunday for him. For you, though, it was not something you wanted to occur at all, let alone more than once.
"Mathison," Tommy calls, accent thick as a small fog accompanies his words. The night is cold, and everyone that dares speak becomes a dragon. "I doubt this is nessacary." His hands are raised in a disarming gesture, but you know Tommy well enough. In his eyes, there's concern, worry, and that does not at all ease your nerves.
"You said you'd pay me, give me the money for my family, Tommy, you promised." The man that stands behind you grips tighter to your body, your back flush to his chest as the barrel of the gun digs into your skin.
"You'll get your money in good time, I'm an honest man, Mathison, now let the lady go free." He spares a glance to you, and you can tell he wished he hadn't as soon as it happens. His eyes darken as though he won't be able to scrub the memory free of his mind. Not that you matter that much to be remembered. Not to someone like Tommy. You were just a woman he met in dark corners, after all.
"I want the money now!" The mans shout beside your ear makes you flinch, and the gun shakes in his hands. "It's been weeks, and I want what I was promised!" The man is not at all stable, and with his finger so close to the trigger, you aren't confident in your survival rate.
"Tommy, give him the money. Please." You shouldn't speak. It could earn you a number of consequences, but the fear is stronger than rational thought.
Perhaps the same goes for Tommy because you swear you see him think it over. He flexs his hand at his side, trying to stretch out the tension writhing within him. He is a man of business, not of love, and time and time again that four letter word has ruined him. But seeing you, under threat of harm, stirs a particular amount of concern.
"I don't take kindly to threats against my family. And it looks as though you may be threatening me? Am I correct?"
The man behind you doesn't say anything. His hand still shakes and his grip on you is painful, but he knows that to say yes is to mean consequence, and to say no, would be to lie to Thomas Shelby, which won't end well either.
"Right. Well, I'm having a fucking party inside, one that I would be hosting if I wasn't needed to deal to this. I think the best course of action is for you to put the gun down and leave the premises. You will get your money tomorrow, Mr Mathison." His words sound so final. You can almost believe the man that has a hold of you will listen. Perhaps he is listening because slowly, the gun isn't as close to you anymore.
The gunshot is loud, deafening, and your ears ring with the sound of it. You would have thought that was because you were bleeding out, were it not for the loud scream that fell from your lips at the same time as the sound. If you had, in fact, been shot point blank in the head, you would not have time to scream.
The man that once had a hold of you tumbles backward, and you, in shock, fall to your knees in relief, as well as an attempt to lower the chances of being hit by another stray bullet.
Your first mistake was to look back, eyes locking on the blood pooling around the now fallen mans head. You could have been in the same position just moments before.
"Look at me." Tommy's hands come to grasp the sides of your face, not giving you a choice in the matter. He's on his knees in front of you, his sleeves pushed up to his elbows. "Are you alright?"
You nod, squeezing your eyes shut despite his order, and begin to cry. It's embarrassing to do so, but there's is no way you couldn't bring yourself to. Tommy pulls you into his chest, and despite how mad at him you are, you let him.
His heart races as the sound of the gunshot echoes in his own mind, and the feeling of your heavy breaths taken between sobs while devastating, is the most reassuring action in the moment. You're breathing, which means he's kept you safe for now.
-
Later that night, you are sat on the edge of Tommy's bed, still reeling from the nights events. He'd left you in order to send the party guests away and had only just returned.
"I lied before." You mumble as he enters the room, shutting the door behind him. "I'm not alright."
Looking at him fills you with the deepest anger, how he can stand there, and undo his tie with hands that don't so much as quiver.
"You are a dangerous man, Thomas. I could have died tonight, all because I was foolish enough to get in your bed."
Tommy nods, and you hate the minimal response. "I wasn't going to let him shoot you."
"He could've shot me whether you let him or not!" Your voice is raising even as you don't want it to. He's too calm in the face of this, and that says all it needs to. "We're done, Tommy."
You stand to leave, ignoring the way your muscles feel, still tense even after the ordeal is over. The door is one step away by the time Tommy decides to speak again, but you're already in the hall before he can make a point.
"I did what I had to do to keep you safe." He's followed you out, looking more disheveled now with his tie long gone and shirt half unbuttoned.
"Am I safe with you, Tommy? Because it doesn't feel like it." You're unable to face him, eyes locked on the staircase you so desperately want to run down.
"I can't promise peace if that's what you're askin', but I won't let anyone hurt you. Not as long as I'm alive." His hand on your shoulder is what makes you turn, and you stare him down with what courage you have left.
"Do you love me, Thomas Shelby? Because if you don't, I can't understand why I'd be worth the trouble." It's more of a dare than a question because you're sure he'll say no. And once he says it, you'll have more than enough reason to leave him and never return.
Tommy exhales harshly, and you can smell the cigarettes on his breath, mixed with whiskey from the party. It's not a unique scent among men you've met, but somehow, on Tommy, it's more of an indulgence.
"I thought you knew that already." He mutters, lips closer to yours than they were before. "But I'm sure I can clarify a few things." His hands fall to your waist, a daring gesture but one that isn't uncommon for the both of you before his lips are on yours. Your anger is forced out of you in the form of a kiss, one that is messy and desperate in a way you've only known with Tommy. His breath mixes with yours as do other elements of him, until finally you push him away.
"I'm not forcing you to say it, Thomas. But for fucks sake tell me straight. Do you or do you not love me?"
Tommy grunts in frustration, running a hand over his face. He's an honest man in his own opinion, and he wants to be honest with you, but in doing so he has to do the same for himself. That's harder than most things Tommy does for a living.
"Love is more dangerous than I am, sweetheart. And believe me, my love isn't something you want."
"Yes or no, Tommy." You've pushed back every tear within you and stand like a soldier before him, ready to march away. He clears his throat, loud in the silent hallway.
"Yes. Yes, I fucking love you. now can we please go back to bed?"
You don't answer, but simply wander past him to his room. It's dimly lit, and the sheets look more than inviting after the day you've had. You turn back to him once inside, catching his eyes on your figure.
"I love you too, Tommy."
Slowly, a smile creeps onto his lips, and his eyes cloud over with a look you know too well. "Let's go to bed."

❧ cw. typical violence, alcohol consumption, mentions of a child almost getting blown up, the usual 🤷🏻‍♀️
❧ r. I was wondering if I could request one where she happens to be back at the house/betting shop at the time when the Lees destroy it and the fact that the Lees still did that with there being a woman, let alone the woman who is his significant other, in the shop really infuriates Tommy when he comes back to see that she’d been affected by it. I’ll leave it up to you for how you want to end it. ☺️ — @runnning-outof-time

"ooh, where are you heading?" you ask polly who places a hat on top of her head and she sends you a smile as you greet her. she means to answer but tommy joins your side and interrupts her by asking "where's john?"
"john's at the garrison," she informs and tommy's brows furrow "says he wants a meeting about a family matter." you hear him sigh and so you put your hand on his shoulder and he gives you a look of exasperation.
"easy tommy, he just wants a meeting, not to overthrow the government."
"and well, we know he'd that himself." polly remarks and you snicker in response, she purses her lips in return "besides, he'll say his piece and he'll be back to take his place with scudboat." her nephew merely rolls his eyes and shakes his head in disbelief.
"scudboat, john will be here in ten minutes." polly declares and walks away, fixing her gloves on her way out to the garrison.
"five." tommy corrects before following her, but he stops halfway and turns to you "you coming?"
"i'll stay, still haven't had breakfast." you tell him and point over to scudboat "he might also need some help counting."
tommy stares for a few seconds before nodding "i'll be back soon, love."
.
he walks out and you take a seat at scudboat's table continuing his counting as he locks up. having two people deal with the work quickened the pace and soon the two of you were done counting. you leaned back in your seat.
"would you like something from the kitchen, scudboat?" you follow your question with some offers "tea or some biscuits?"
he nods "tea would be nice, miss." you shoot him a smile as you get up however you're stopped from actually walking to the kitchen as the instant you stand, the doors bust open. almost like instinct, you see scudboat pull out what you presume is a gun from the side of your eye and you freeze in your spot with both arms raised in surrender.
"put that down!" you hear one of the men order and around 2-3 men with weapons circle scudboat and restrain him whilst you face the end of a barrel.
"this is for cheltham." a man with a gypsy accent and bandages covering his right ear announces as he moves his aim from you to scudboat and you hold back a groan. of course tommy angered the lee family during his visit to the races, of fucking course "we're just taking back what's ours." he drives the end of the gun to scudboat's face, effectively dropping him to the floor.
he then turns to you once more "where are the loots, huh?" he asks gruffly and you withhold a grimace.
"i don't what you're talking about." you respond, annoyed at the entire situation you were left in.
"come on, you're tommy's girl, are you not? he must've told you where they are." a scoff escapes your lips and you roll your eyes, arms crossing before your chest.
"what makes you think that?" you cock your head to the side, eyes widening in an innocent expression "i only work here to serve the men drinks and clean up."
the man lets out a hoarse laugh and clutches your face in his hold "don't mess with me, i know who you are." your face drops and you hold his gaze.
"then you must know that tommy will have your head if he so much as sees a scar on me?" you threaten softly and his grip loosens "or are you as stupid as you look, i mean you must be because who in their right mind would steal from the peaky blinders?--" you're stopped by a slap across your face.
"fuck you," he spits in your direction, probably realising that you won't give up information and are only wasting time, stalling for the shelby's return. you don't react, however, eyes staring daggers as he orders his men "search everywhere!" he tells them and they leave scudboat to fall on the floor to disperse around the betting shop, flipping the place all over in search of what the peaky blinders retrieved. you slip away during their distraction and kneel beside the injured man.
"i'm sorry" you whisper, reaching for a cloth on a nearby table to dab at the deep wound on his temple. it didn't take long for the men to leave, laughing as you hear something clunk against a table and within a few minutes, finn walks through the kitchen, his stroll halted at the sight of you and scudboat crouched on the floor.
"finn!" you call the boy and he runs to you, worry in his eyes "go and call your brothers, tell them to hurry here." you pat his cheek softly once he's close enough and with a nod, he races of to the garrison. you pull a fallen chair and stand it up right, helping scudboat on the chair.
"love," you hear tommy's voice before you see him "are you alright?" he asks and you leave scudboat as tommy gathers you in his arms, a kiss pressed against the crown of your head, and you inhale his familiar scent of cigarettes, whiskey and a mix of cologne.
"what the bloody hell happened here?" arthur asks from somewhere behind you and scudboat answers him as john surveys the betting shop, feet stomping in anger.
"tommy, i'm fine" you reassure him, patting his chest as you pull away. the slap was nothing as far as you were concerned "however, they took what they could find, sorry we couldn't do anything about it, they were all armed."
tommy shakes his head at you "fuck that, what matters is you're alright." he places a kiss on your forehead once more before detaching from you to scan the place. you turn to see arthur tending to scudboat (serving him alcohol, you note with a chuckle) and instead choose to stand beside polly who reaches a hand out to hold your own.
"your cheek's red." you see the dissatisfied expression she's wearing and tap her hand.
"polly, i'm fine, don't worry." whatever she intends to say dies down her throat as tommy approaches the centre of the room, wire cutters held in his hand.
"they left these." he shows the people in the room the tool and you and polly share a confused look.
"wire cutters?" the older woman questions.
"what for?" you ask and hesitate when you see the alarm quickly taking over the shelby brothers faces.
"nobody move." arthur instructs but you furrow your eyebrows at him.
"i think our friends are playing the game." your confusion turns to tommy instead and you feel the frustration rising at the lack of explanation.
"what game?" polly asks, putting away the cash box she picked up earlier with her free hand and john stops her from continuing "aunt pol, don't touch anything." he pleads.
"erasmus lee was in france."
"an explanation would be grand since not all of us were in said france." you snap, anxiety at its peak.
"when we gave up ground to the germans," tommy begins, looking straight into your eyes "we'd leave behind booby traps set up with wires. then we'd leave wire cutters, it's part of the joke." you let out a laugh of disbelief.
"somewhere in here there's a hand grenade attached to a wire." john declares and you shake your head.
"holy jesus."
"but we've all moved and touched multiple things in the room, surely it would've gone off by now," you surmise, nibbling on your lip and you catch sight of tommy's pensive face "and there aren't any obvious wires here, they couldn't have stayed long enough to set it either." you clarify.
"you're right," tommy nods "the bullet's in my name. he set up a trap intended for me specifically." you hold his gaze and see the pieces click in his brain and soon he walks out of the house.
everyone pauses and they look at you "the car!" you exclaim and follow after him, leaving the shelby's and scudboat behind.
you lift your dress up and catch up to tommy, bumping slightly into him, just to find his arm extended, talking to someone in his car. the person he's softly talking to causes your heart to drop to your stomach.
"finn," he calls out "stay exactly where you are." you raise a hand to cover your mouth and try to steady your fast beating heart.
"i was pretending i was you." finn giggles and you feel something stab into your heart, tommy leaves you behind as he slowly inches towards his baby brother.
"which door did you open to come in, finn?" tommy asks him and you can hear the panic in his voice.
"i didn't, i climbed in."
"i want you to climb out exactly the same way you climbed in, okay?" tommy approaches even closer, getting to the right side of the car.
"listen to your brother, finn." you call out from the entrance of the garage but finn merely giggles and opens the door anyways.
"NO!"
"FINN!"
you run towards the boy, arms open to cover him his small body and tommy quickly retracts the bomb from the car and throws it outside into the streets, yelling a "clear!" as he discards it. you feel him shortly join your embrace afterwards as it goes off.
once he deems it safe to assess the damage, you both walk together with finn holding onto both your hands and tommys. a collective sigh of relief escapes you two before tommy drops down to face finn, holding the boy's face in his hands "this is why you should never pretend to be me."
you watch tommy hug finn who still tightly clung to your hand and tommy looks into your eyes once again, relief washing over them and you send him a tired smile.
"come on finn, how about we go get you some sweets huh?" you ask the boy and he nods eagerly. tommy ruffles his hair and gives him another short hug before letting him leave with you.
once you get home, finn full of sweets and no longer ruffled, you prepare a bathe before you settle in bed. you allow your restless body to finally relax and soak in the warmth of the tub. around half an hour later you wrap your hair in a cloth to absorb the water that still clung to your tresses and apply your moisturiser. your fingers pause when you hear your door open suddenly and in an instant you grab the closest thing beside you and hold it in the direction of the intruder.
"very effective weapon, dear." you look at the item in your hand and let out a scoff/laugh.
"wouldn't need to think about having a weapon if it weren't for your lifestyle." you argue and tommy scoffs in return, busy removing his shoes and outwear.
"[name], you're a woman who lives alone in small heath of all places." the look he sends you makes you snort "even if you had nothing to do with me, you wouldn't be that safe."
"that's wonderful to hear actually, will go to bed feeling safe and sound." you deadpan and he sits himself on your bed, watching as you get back to working the moisturiser into your skin.
"of course, always happy to let my woman know she's safe and protected." you toss one of your powder brushes at him and he easily catches it with a laugh.
"come here already," he beckons you and with a roll of your eyes, you join him under the covers.
"i need you to know that i won't ever let anything harm you," he says once you settle in his arms, eyes gazing into yours "truly."
"i know." you peck his lips before resting your head on his collarbone, he picks up your "weapon" and flicks through the pages to continue from the last time he stopped.
"erasmus has been dealt with and i hope you're ready for a wedding," just as you began to feel the embers of sleep take a hold of you, you peek your eyes open.
"oh no thomas, what'd you do?"
"don't you worry your pretty little head about it."
you roll your eyes at him once more and huff out a breath of irritation "fine, but if polly ever complains to me about this i'm kicking you out of my house and you'll have no access to my books."
"you like me too much to get rid of me, love."
"i'll be the judge of that." you close your eyes once more and drift off to sleep, but not before you feel a kiss against the top of your head.

warning: honestly, it's pretty tame. some cursing, kinda-sorta one bed, most def OC Tommy, fluff, author is def on the Grace Hating Train but it's mild.

With a grunt, you threw the file of paperwork from your hands across the empty room; scattering across the floor. You were agitated, grouchy, beyond exhausted, and yet, there was no use in trying to leave when the worst storm to ransack England was being unleashed from the seediest parts of hell.
All you wanted was to go to bed for about 16 hours, but as midnight ticked closer and closer, that dream was dwindling. You'd be lucky to get a few hours at this point since your job was demanding enough to warrant early mornings and late nights. But this night was later than ever before.
You often wondered if your employer's antics brought this hell-storm upon you all, but figured, God didn't care that much about Small Heath. He most certainly didn't care for the Devil running it.
"Woah!" A voice laughed when the file went flying. "Gott'an arm on yah, love! Nearly took me fuckin' eye out!"
"Ha-ha," you mocked John Shelby, your employer's younger brother. "What're you still doing here?"
"I was about to ask you the same," he smirked, squatting so he was in front of you with an exaggerated pout. "Why're you still here, love? Tommy's still gotcha workin'?"
"No, it's my own vocation."
"Tommy don't pay overtime, sweetheart."
"No shit," your eyes rolled. "In case I'm the only one capable of seeing it, there's an outlandish storm outside that prevents me from getting home." You gestured around where you sat on the floor, surrounded by files and other paperwork, "So, what else was I gonna do to pass the time?"
"It's not that bad," he waved you off. "C'mon, I'm off t'the Garrison, come with me, love. We can drink 'til the storm passes, huh?"
"John, seriously, I'm warning you," you deadpanned, watching him adjust his flatcap.
"C'mon, sweet cheeks, we can endure it," he laughed, opening the door and literally being shoved back by the force of the wind. You didn't make a sound, just reaching to hold down the papers around you as he grunted and groaned, trying to shut the flailing door; only able to once he threw his entire weight into it.
"Told you," you mused, his face and coat dripping wet from the short time the door was open.
"So, you're staying here, then?" He asked, panting, trying to play off the entire ordeal.
"I figured I'd get some more work done, it's not like Tommy gives any days off," you shrugged.
"He'd give you whatever you asked for," John smirked, taking his coat off.
"No, he needs me to do shit on the daily, there aren't days off, John Boy," you rolled your eyes playfully. "But I knew what I was signing up for when I agreed to work for you idiots."
"Hey," he pouted.
"Oh, honey, if it helps any, you're my favorite idiot!"
"Good," he pointed at you with a small laugh. "But seriously, love, if you need the day off, Tommy would do it."
"No, there's so much to do here," you frowned. "We're on track to reopen in a few weeks, and if I take a day off, we'll fall behind, and you know Tommy doesn't do delays."
The gambling den the Shelby's operated was getting a make over now that The Shelby Company Limited was soon to be up and running. Hence why you were there in an empty room with only files around you and a dimly lit lap, you were trying to get shit organized before furniture could be moved back in.
You would have to restock Polly's office, Tommy's, Arthur's, and John's - all of who were Company members and would need their space to work. Not to mention the completely different office Tommy was currently eyeing to use as his base of operation, something you, as his personal assistant, was expected to help with every step of the way. Honestly, it was a miracle Tommy was ever able to get shit done before you - an organizational Goddess.
"Well," John sighed, looking around for a moment before shrugging and placing his hands on his hips, "want some help?"
You chuckled, "No, it's all right, John, you go on. Surely the lads will be home soon - "
Speak of the Devil! And He will appear!
The door burst open, sending your files every which way from the gust of wind; several bodies shoving their way inside before the lone, single body of Tommy Shelby stalked in last. He shut the door without issue, being a force of nature himself; a professionally observant, silent, lone menace that commanded the attention of any room he walked into. People on the street parted for him like the Red Sea, flocked to the darkened parts of the streets just to get a glimpse of the gangster in motion.
For as long as you can remember, you've harbored overwhelming affection for your boss, but never once vocalized it out of sheer fear of rejection.
He was Thomas Shelby. He was an enigma; a mysterious, stoic man that instilled a sense of fear and respect from those around him. You included, but yet never dare let your admiration for your employer be known in public. You loved him from a distance; admiring him and feeling yourself fall further into your unrequited love due to the intimate proximity you shared. He's always treated you as exactly what you were - a valuable member of the Company and his personal assistant. You worked intimately together on a daily basis, and each night you went home, you would scream into a pillow out of sheer frustration.
Being his personal assistant meant you were constantly in close proximity, and no matter how hard you tried to fight your feelings, it was impossible. He was Thomas bloody Shelby - insanely suave, charismatic, a deep nut to crack, but once he opened up, he was insanely loyal, caring, even decently amusing. He was all you wanted, but never felt secure enough to admit your feelings for him.
You were greeted happily by the men, all piling into the Shelby home to take refuge from the storm. You were left to silently rock to your feet and start gathering the papers that had gone flying in their entrance, glancing up when a hand offered help in rounding up your supplies. "Thank you, Mr. Shelby, but I got it," you insisted quietly, accepting the pages he handed you.
Tommy always had a soft spot for you.
He was silent for a moment, then asked, "What're you still doin' here?"
"Storm makes it impossible to get home," you shrugged. "I was waiting until it lessened, but it doesn't seem to," you glanced out the window, still shuffling files and papers together.
"You've worked all day," he sighed, "c'mon."
"Uh... Where?"
"Think you've earned a drink," he eased, already striding out of the room. You quickly finished gathering your papers, stacking them all together, but was pleasantly shocked when Tommy returned to the empty room with two glasses and a bottle of whiskey.
"Mr. Shelby, don't - "
But he was already sat on the ground, back against a wall, watching you with amusement. "Think a man's too good to sit on the floor?" He asked, uncorking the bottle.
"When their suit is so expensive that I have to take it to a specific cleaners, perhaps, then yes," you answered truthfully.
"I've money to spare, I can send this suit to be cleaned by another errand boy, you won't have to any longer," he poured two glasses of whiskey, "but tonight's company is too good to pass up."
You laughed, "Oh, no, what did you do?"
"Hmm?"
"You're kissing my arse a little, what've you done? What mess do I have to clean tomorrow?"
He smirked as you finally sat beside him, a bit stiffly, but accepted the drink he served. "Nothing, love, this storm's put a halt on everything," he gestured to the window, unaware that your heart stalled in your chest when you heard him call you 'love'. "What is it you were working on?" He asked, fingering the few files stacked between you. "Ah," he mused, reading the titles of the packets, "trying to get a jump on tomorrow, huh?"
"Not very much else to do," you shrugged. "I... I got a little frustrated. I think I'll need Polly to go over a few things with me."
"I'm sure you've got it," he spoke quietly. "I wouldn't have hired you if incapable."
You nodded, "Right, of course, sir."
Mr. Shelby offered you a look, taking a swig of whiskey. "You know, after hours, you don't have to be so professional."
"You didn't hire me to be unprofessional, though."
"No, I didn't, but this isn't a work meeting," he offered his glass. "We can still be friendly, can we not?"
You clinked his glass with yours, "Sure, of course we can..." How the hell could you be 'friendly' to the man you've pined after for the past two years? "So, I heard Grace skipped town," you started, instantly wincing when you realized what you said. "I-I'm so sorry, Mr. Shelby, I didn't mean to - "
But he chuckled, "You heard correct." He waited a long moment, then offered, "She's gone - for good."
You tested the waters, "Is... That a good thing?"
"It is."
"I thought you liked the barmaid?"
"I thought I did, too, but I've been wrong before."
"I doubt that."
"No, truly," he smirked, "I've made my fair share of mistakes."
"That you'd be willing to admit to?"
"Well, that's a different story," he mused, downing the last of his glass. "C'mon," he decided, sitting up, "the others are in the den, if you'd like to join?"
"Oh, no, I don't wish to intrude."
"Where were you going to sleep, then? If this storm doesn't die off in the next hour?" You gestured to where your coat and belongings were bunched up beside you, shrugging lightly. "No, absolutely not," he glared when he took in your makeshift bed, "you're coming in, you'll stay the night here."
"No, you lot are having family time - "
"And why do you assume you aren't family yet?" He asked sharply, making you reel back a little. "Three years, you've worked with my family, a portion of that before any of us came home. C'mon, love, you're more family than others wish to pretend to be."
"You mean that?" You worried softly.
He offered a look of mild offense, "I don't speak to hear the sound of my own voice. I would not say it if I did not mean it."
The whiskey in your system encouraged you to offer a sharp look, snipping, "It would not kill you to just say, 'Yes, I mean it.'"
Tommy smirked lightly, nodding, "Yes, I mean it. Come, you'll stay here tonight."
You couldn't fight off the smile even if you tried. With your coat and purse in one hand, Tommy took the other to help you off the floor. Like a gentleman, he took your belongings before leading you further into the Shelby home; leaving the empty gambling den to find the others all stuffed around a table with a card game loudly being played; fireplace stoked to life.
Polly greeted you happily, not knowing you were still here. Tommy set your things to the side as Arthur wrangled you into the seat beside him - insisting you had to be on his team! A quick sniff of his tea mug assured he was waist deep in the whiskey.
"Okay! New player at the table!" John announced, yanking all the cards back to hand over to Polly. They were all smoking, minus you and Finn. "You all know the rules - hey, hey, hey, no! Tommy's not on her team!" He pointed at you and his brother, who had sat beside you to sandwich you between Shelby's.
"Why not?" Tom asked, accepting the tea from Polly as Finn handed you your own.
"Thank you, little love," you whispered, pecking his cheek as he giggled.
"Becuase you two can communicate without words - it's fucking weird!" John insisted. "All right! Polly, you're with Tommy - the fucker likes to cheat."
"Being better than you isn't cheating, John Boy."
"Is when there's money on the line!" John laughed, Arthur leaning over to explain to you the game. He was actually a very good teacher, and even for a few rounds, you weren't a "viable player" just to let you watch and get the gist of things.
However, when you joined the game, it was far more intense than you had given credit for. But the Shelby's were competitive lads, Polly just happy to laugh and remind the boys of the rules; letting them dominate the table as you were content to just watch, laugh, and sip your tea. After a few rounds, Finn came over and hopped up on your lap, declaring you two a team now, and believe it or not, you won the next three hands!
"CHEATERS! AYE!?" John yelled, laughing right after as a boom of thunder rattled the home.
"No, call that beginners luck!" Arthur tried to defend, Tommy lighting a new cigarette.
"Or maybe John's just not accustomed to losing?" You grinned. "Especially from a lady?"
"I lost to a lady? Where? Where is she?" John looked around comically, earning a swift kick under the table that rattled the tea cups.
"All right, all right, next hand, we play for money, come on, come on, bets in the center," Polly instructed. "Finn, don't," she warned and you reached up to push the lad's hand down as he was ready to toss in a few pounds.
"Here, I'll cover us," you told the little lad, both grinning when you offered money to the center. Unknown to you, Tommy was keeping mental track of however much you were betting - intent to pay you back. Yet he didn't say anything, content to watch you and Finn have fun together.
Arthur and John were the most vocal of the group, arguing about scores and tallies and who won which round. You chuckled as Finn leaned into your chest, everyone waiting for the two to finish arguing; Polly looking over with a broad smirk before dropping her gaze. Tommy had seemingly naturally moved closer to you, one arm extended behind your chair to keep you close to his warmth.
Neither seemed to notice.
Not even when you would turn to crack a joke directly in Tommy's ear, his lips spreading in an easy smile that made Polly fight off her own grin. Grace was something special to Tommy, sure, this was true, but after the time together, she could tell that the two of you had become something more - without even verbalizing it.
Never realizing.
Hours passed, the storm still raged, two cartons of cigarettes was smoked between the lot of them, and there was no clear winner in sight. Finn had fully deflated into your embrace, asleep despite the loud thunder and blinding flashes of lightning. Your head had lulled onto Tommy's shoulder, sleep clawing at your eyelids as you listened to a drunken John and Arthur still argue about the card game. Polly eventually called it quits and bid everyone a goodnight, smiling softly when she noted the cozy seating between you and Tommy.
The longer you sat there, you more exhausted you became.
"C'mon, love," Tommy whispered softly, rousing you from your half-sleep, "let's get you to bed. C'mon, up you get," he smirked, aiding you from your chair as you kept a firm hold on his little brother. "We'll see you lot in the morning," he told his brothers.
"Night," John and Arthur waved, still deep into their argument, but smirking to one another when Tommy lead you up the stairs. When you were gone from sight, John leaned in and asked his eldest brother, "Think Tommy'll make a move tonight?"
Arthur glanced up the stairs, musing, "If he doesn't, he might be stupider then we thought."
John agreed.
Upstairs, Tommy opened the bedroom door and let you lay Finn softly on his bed, pausing to tug his shoes off and cover him with his blanket; moving his stuffed teddy bear closer and watching his sleeping hand naturally curl around it. You snuck out of the door, Tommy shutting the door, and tangled your hand with his.
Silently, he lead you to his bedroom.
It was small, ridiculously small, but it was enough for his single person. Tommy shut the door after you, moving around, muttering, "You can sleep in this," as he handed you one of his shirts, "and I'll be in the drawing room if you need me - "
"Tommy, I'm not kicking you out of your room," you sighed. "I can sleep on the sofa for the night, it's not - "
"I'm not letting you do that," he refused sharply.
"Then we seem to be at an impasse," you decided with perked brows. "Either we're both sleeping on the sofa or we both crash your bed. You choose."
He chuckled dryly, "And here I thought the whiskey would make you less stubborn."
"Wishful thinking."
He nodded, letting you have the room to change and get under the covers. It was decently cold in his room, more so without pants; the storm doing nothing to remedy that, and when Tommy returned, everything felt different.
A good different, but still different.
Neither of you made eye contact, him joining you in the absurdly small bed after blowing the candles out. You settled on your side, facing the wall, and after a few moments of adjusting, Tommy was settling down - but hesitating to deflate in comfort.
"Is it all right if I, uh... If I...?"
"Yeah, 's all right, Tommy," you whispered, reaching for the hand that hovered over your waist and pulling it so he was curled around you. It was all he needed to readjust, sigh to himself, and deflate against your back. You shivered slightly when his warm breath fanned over your neck and shoulder; his hand splaying over your belly and rubbing his thumb mindlessly. "Thank you for letting me stay the night," you whispered.
"Wasn't gonna send you home in this weather," he answered, voice vibrating the shell of your ear. "Besides," he whispered in a sigh, "this is where I wanted you, and where I wanted to be."
You chuckled, "Oh, yeah? So cold in here you need a warm body in bed with you?"
"No," he whispered, "but I've been in love with you for months now that I didn't want you far from me. Doesn't feel right, seeing you go home without me - everyday. I was overjoyed to come back and see you still here."
"What?" He didn't let you turn around, just kept you both there; locked in your spoon. "Tommy, what're you saying?"
He took a sobering breath, "That this is what I want, this is where I want us to be."
"That's the whiskey talking."
"No, love, it's you," his lips danced across your ear, making you shiver. "It's always been you, but I wasn't in my right mind to do anything about it."
"And now you are?"
"I might be, I couldn't go another minute with you thinking I don't want you - that I don't value you in my life. The fact that you were ready to sleep downstairs hurt me more than I'm willing to admit," he sighed, "and I knew, I needed to confess a few things so you know, you're welcome in this family. You won't ever sleep downstairs, love, you're meant to be here... With me... If you want to be."
You had to slap his hand to get him to loosen his grip and let you turn around to face him; but his hand remained on your, moving up to grip your ribs. In a whisper, you asked, "You're being honest? Genuine?"
"I can't lie to you, you can always tell. So, am I lying?"
"I don't think so," you whispered with skepticism, eyes narrowed. Neither of your voices rose above a whisper, "Why say any of this, Tommy?"
"Because the idea of going another day without at least trying to tell you how I feel was beginning to feel suffocating."
"What about Grace?"
"It's taken me a bit, but I know now that I was infatuated with her simply because I had already decided you were out of my league."
"Do you hear yourself?" You grinned, caressing his cheek. "You're everything I've wished for, Tommy, but know I can't have. You're the one in a league of your own, I'm the one unable to touch you."
His head shook, "You're all I've wanted and more. I wasn't sure you'd think it appropriate - my affection for you - given you work for me."
"The same reason I feared voicing my affection for you, too."
"Now that it's in the open," he whispered, "how do you want to proceed?"
"We can figure logistics out later," you smiled, tracing your fingertips over his face, "but for now, I just want to enjoy this. I never thought you'd look at me the same way, and now that you do, I don't want to look away."
"You won't have to," he whispered. "I'm in this for us, my sweet, if you are."
"Nowhere I'd rather be," you whispered, cuddled close, and simply breathing the same air. For a single moment, Tommy felt unparalleled peace; the shovels quiet, heart content, and body warm.

TOMMY SHELBY MASTERLIST || MAIN MASTERLIST
Tumblr media
"Perhaps you didn't love her," Y/N's obnoxious sister, Alice, says smugly as she follows Tommy down the long driveway. “After all she’s dead because of you.”
Tommy stops but doesn’t bother to turn to face her, not wanting to give the woman the satisfaction of seeing his reaction, knowing that is what she would want. His wife’s sister was always trying to get under his skin because of her jealousy.
It all started when Tommy chose Y/N over her. Him and Alice never went further than business partners, but Alice wanted something more. The day Tommy met Y/N she knew her chances were over, but it never stopped her from trying to get between them.
“Perhaps I’m the only one who loves her,” he retorts, as he starts to walk away from her again. "After all it was your jealousy that got her killed and it's because of her that I haven't killed you in return".
