January - May
I only got on Tumblr in very late May of this year (for the second time but the mid 2010s were a different time lol) so no posts till after that, also It has still been less than a year since I even started watching BL.

Hello! As always, you're awesome. The Awesomest even.
In several of my rabbit hole spirals through your blog posts I have clicked on links that lead to me a "URL not found" screen with your former @ you-had-me-at-bl name and Icon. Do you know if these post's are gone gone? (e.g. have you deleted them, do they no longer exist because you changed things or do you still have links, it's just that I'm looking at very old posts where the links understandably don't work).
In particular I've been trying to find and bookmark all your episode by episode watches (trash watch or otherwise) for me to come back to as I work my way through Thai BL (because the one's I have read as I watched are extremely entertaining). Several of the older shows links have lead me to this screen. Most recently I clicked on TT2 episode by episode recap which lead me to finally asking about it.
Totally fine if they're just gone obvs but thought there was no harm in asking :)
(If you do have the links and are happy to share I will be going on a long spiral to find broken links I want to read just FYI).

In my attempt to organize all my posts related to The Eclipse for easier access for myself when I wanted to make a final thought post later, I decided to make this index page. on November 27, 2021, I started watching bad buddy out of idle curiosity, given a mutual's long meta post about the greatest first kiss in cinematic history. i watched all 5 available episodes and fell ass over teakettle for not only the show, but thai BL as well. it is now November 27, 2022. here's everything I've watched, ranked out of 10 (including BL from other countries and some non-BL as well). final count: 116. Ai and Ni are just so unique in Thai Bl. They’re an established gay couple that are heavily implied to be actually gay and not ‘gay for him’. There’s talk of gaydar, recognizing one of their own and shared attractions. Which is just... amazing. Chaotic gay himbos for the win.
Honestly, THCT has so many out and gay characters it’s pretty amazing. Na, Nueng, Chon, Ai, Ni, the nameless guys hitting on Chon... I mean, most of the cast is gay AND out about it.
Is the show perfect? Nothing is perfect. Is it still one of my favorite shows and will probably stay that way? Yes.

gmmtv is making it so hard to enjoy thonhon chonlatee, and it's a pity because i like the focus they've been putting on why thon is so casually homophobic by showing us the environment he's been brought up in and the constant pressure his father has been putting on him. thon is supposed to be unsufferable and clueless now, and i think his path to realizing and acknowledging his true self will be very interesting to watch.
the real problem of this show is the amounts of homophobia, transphobia and jokes on topics nobody should joke about. having ai and ni force chon to come out and confess by threatening him like that was incredibly uncomfortable and unsettling to watch, and it was played as a funny bit that shows that the writers have no awareness for real life queer experiences. one thing is hearing homophobic remarks from a character that's explicitly supposed to be seen as homophobic because of his background and will have a redemption/learning arc, another is the miriad of jokes and slurs that fly by unnoticed because "if a gay character says it then it's okay".
so yeah, no gifs from me this week, this episode was not it

I really love that Na is in on the entire plan. This isn’t fake flirting without him knowing, which I was a bit worried about happening? But no. Na knows exactly what’s going on and has his own goals in this, both selfish and altruistic. Which just makes this all so much better.
Like, yeah, Na is using this as a chance to keep seriously hitting on Chon. But he also knows that he could just be helping Chon get with Ton. And he has no issues with that. He’s doing this because both outcomes are perfectly fine.
I love him so much. He’s in this because he wants to help Chon. Whether that’s by dating him or helping him get together with the person likes... well, either way is helping!
Now I really wish Na had a secondary love interest because I want him to be happy forever after. Also, his friend group growing more and more as they start calling him out on his BS while showing him that NOT doing it gains him more friends? It’s fantastic.
I genuinely love this boy so much. I love all these characters. I love this little queer found family that have come together with humor and drama to show us what it means.
I love this show.

Look, I know we all love Na. And we want him to be happy. And we know that he loves Chon.
I really, really want to point out how much Na wanted friends. He was very clear about that when he talked to Chon on their first outing alone together. Na was lonely. Yes, he loved Chon. But he was so happy just to have Chon as a friend. Chon makes him happy, as he said..
Now look at him! He has 6 ride or die friends and a whole little queer found family ready to take care of him. He’s got a whole support system that’s formed around him. They’re at his side, they’re making sure he’s happy, they listen to him and comfort him and care for him.
This isn’t the ending, not yet. But this is good. Na’s gotten a lot of what he wanted. He got friends. He found a family.
Did he get the boy? No.
But, in the end, he still got something he wanted and needed.
He got friends.

Tonhon’s shock that Ai and Ni would even consider moving out after coming out, that they would think he would suddenly be uncomfortable around them...
Tonhon has never, never thought of his words in a personal way. He’s never considered that the people around him fit into the boxes that he mocks. That’s just not a connection he made.
Because he never considered any of it personal.
He never, ever thought that any of his friends would be gay. Or could be gay. I mean, look at the extent they had to go to just to convince him that it wasn’t a prank!
Yet he’s still shocked when they talk about moving out.
Because none of it, absolute none of it, was ever personal to him.
Look at how happy he is when he watches SOTUS. Look at how much he obviously connects with the characters. Then look at how he talks about gay people. And that’s because he’s never thinks of anything he says in personal terms.
It’s why he’s so shocked. It’s why he’ll probably keep saying those things for a while.
Because, for him, that’s just how people talk. It’s how his family has always talked. It doesn’t mean anything to him.
But it does mean a lot to the people around him. Now he’s being forced to face that his words have had meaning all along. He’s also being forced to face that he isn’t who he thinks he is.
Tonhon is going to rebuild himself in the rest of these episodes. But everyone’s going to have to keep pushing him. Luckily, sassy Chon is obviously here, with the help of his queer found family in Na and Ni and Ai and Miriam and Pang.
Can’t wait!

I feel like I need to rewatch Tonhon Chonlatee because just from memory... I think Tonhon is getting smarter.
Not... actually smart.
But he’s making better choices. He’s more articulate. He’s still bad at emotions but I’m starting to understand how he could possibly be a good student.
And I think that’s deliberate.
The more Tonhon faces his own homophobia and internal biases, the more he’s able to show his own intelligence. The better he becomes, the smarter we get to see he is.
I love this, fyi.
Because it’s just GREAT. Tonhon is showing that being homophobic was holding him back. Being homophobic was making him sound stupid ALL THE TIME.
And now as he starts tor realize what he was doing, we’re getting to see the good person his friends saw.

So, honestly, the idea that Tonhon is bi and has been in denial of it for a very long time is... really hitting me after this episode. The way he’s been raised and the way he talks about the romance between men is very telling. He’s in deep, deep denial. But it’s there, lurking beneath the surface. That’s what he wants. And the only way he can handle it is pretending it doesn’t exists. By parroting that it’s wrong, like he’s heard his entire life.
Tonhon has a mountain to climb to get to where he can be truly happy with himself and the worst part is that he’s convinced himself that there is no mountain. That this is just what life looks like for everyone.
... Or maybe I’m thinking too deeply into a comedic dumbass character.

Tonhon doesn’t know he’s gay because he’s defined the very concept of gay as ‘other’. Gay to Tonhon means ‘not me’. It means ‘not my friends’. It means ‘someone I don’t know and don’t like’.
I mean, this is not a man who engages in self-reflection or introspection or thinks deeply about anything. He’s following his father’s example because, let’s be honest, he’s never had a reason not to in his mind.
Tonhon doesn’t think about how feels about Chon because it would never occur to him to think about it! He doesn’t think about being gay or wanting to touch him because why would he think about that?
It’s also why he overlooks everything about Ai and Ni. Because they’re not Other. They’re his friends and thus they’re not gay. Obviously. He’s so dense because of all that internalized homophobia which has resulted in his othering all gay people as... well, ‘not his friends/himself/people he likes’.
My prediction is that Chon gets outed in the scene from the preview where he kisses a sleeping Ton. Ton flips and Ai and Ni end up outting themselves (might just be Ni outting them with Ai getting upset, possibly) and that’s going to set off an entire lifetime of self-reflection for Ton.
... I can’t wait.

I do have to laugh because, yes, Tonhon watching SOTUS is unrealistic because... I mean... I mean, seriously? SERIOUSLY?
But I love it anyway because the timing with so perfect and the scene was perfect and just everything about Tonhon lying on his bed in his childhood home watching that PERFECT speech as he imagines his childhood best friend that he’s fallen in love with and is still denying.
His soft smile, the way he relaxes into the bed and into himself until he starts to thinks about it again.
Tonhon has buried himself in toxic masculinity and homophobia. He’s let his family, mostly his father, dictate his opinions and his personality for years. He’s never thought about it.
Now he’s being forced to face a part of himself he never knew was there. Because it’s been pulled to the front by force.
This is a hint of how happy he’ll be eventually. He just has to fight his way there against himself.
