If you were to be roommates with any of the NRC boys, who would you wanna be roommates with? Who would you not want to be roommates with?
Ooh, what a fun prompt 😂 I’ll split them into categories and then comment on my reasoning for them! (I’m responding for myself, not for my OC by the same name confusing, I know)
Side note: I know this question was limited only to the NRC boys but for funsies I’m going to comment on Neige, the Dwarves, Chenya, and Rollo who are also students 😂 just at different schools… Let me have this—
Absolutely NOT
♥️ — I would drop kick this kid the moment he starts to mouth off to me 😤 I also don’t trust him to not pollute our shared spaces with Axe body spray. Ace is basic enough to do that.
🦈 — Not a fan of people who flake on me or act fickle. It would be a massive inconvenience if Floyd promised to do something (for example, cleaning or making dinner for us roomies) but didn’t because he suddenly “didn’t feel like it”. I’d be forced to pick up after him or to change my schedule to accommodate, and that can very easily annoy me. Plus, if his own room in the game is of any indication, he doesn’t seem very tidy… @.@
🏹 — Too extroverted. I don’t want to be greeted with his dumb ol’ smiling face or French/j when I come home every day. I’d also live in fear of him watching me sleep at night or him just reciting details about me that he shouldn’t reasonably know (clothing sizes, what I did while I was out, etc.)
👑 — Look, I don’t want to deal with paparazzi or crazy fans following Vil home or something. That’s too much stress for me to take. On top of that, there’s nothing stopping an idiot reporter from printing shady gossip about Vil’s roomie being his secret lover… which could, in turn, attract hate from his followers. Please let me just live without worrying about this.
🦇 — MAN LIVES LIKE A HOARDER 😭 There are other characters with messy rooms, but Lilia literally has tons of miscellaneous stuff everywhere... Living with him also means I have to do the bulk of the cooking or risk playing gacha with my life when Lilia's allowed to be in the kitchen. Not only that, but I'd likely be spooked by him dropping on in at random times of the day--I don't think my heart could take it. Too much trouble for me to deal with on a daily basis.
***Bonus: Neige*** — Same reasoning as Vil. I’m sure he’d be cute and peppy + help out with the chores a la Snow White, but I still don’t want to deal with the stress of living with a celebrity and having to deal with potentially super parasocial fans coming at me just for the association.
***Bonus: The Dwarves*** — … I’m not running a daycare here 🤡
I’ll tolerate them
♦️ — Cater avoids being on my shit list as long as he doesn’t start begging me to be in his selfies and twisted Tiktoks or to do internet challenges with him. I’ll tolerate him if he gives me free food he got for pics but doesn’t feel like eating because it’s not to his tastes.
🦁 — Judging from how Leona has Ruggie doing a lot of his housework 💦 I feel like I'd also have to do the bulk of the housework to make up for what Leona doesn't do... Aside from that, I think I could tolerate his personality pretty alright??? I can force him to play tabletop games with me :v and get free veggies off of his plate... (He can have my extra meat, too much protein makes me feel sick.)
☀️ — With his kind of wealth, I don’t need to worry about Kalim paying his share of the rent and for shared items (in fact, he’ll probably just buy everything for us both) 😭 but I wouldn’t like Kalim always inviting a shit ton of people over to party… Another major con is that he probably needs to be taken care of since Jamil or other servants usually fulfill his every need, and I’m NOT about that. Him paying for everything somewhat balances out these grievances, but I have pride to maintain and I don’t want to 100% live off of someone else’s money.
🍎 — Nothing overtly offensive about Epel immediately comes to mind, but if this is pre-book 5 Epel then I don’t want to deal with his toxic masculinity. I could leech free apple products off of whatever his family sends.
💀 — I just KNOW this nerd would be up gaming late until like 3 am and loudly raging as he does it, but I'm a pretty heavy sleeper so I think I could put up with it (not that I want to, only if I have to). Idia wouldn’t be that much of a bother to me during the daytime (he probably just holes up in his room anyway)... And hey, free gaming partner, tech consultant, and someone to watch anime with (and then we can argue about who the best character is).
⚡️— Sebek is punctual and loud, so he's useful to have as an alarm clock (I have a tendency to sleep in). He can do laundry, move heavy furniture, and (most importantly to me) brew tea, all things which contribute to the household. But I swear, I SWEAR, if he opens his mouth to tell me why I should like Malleus, I'm going to move out ASAP.
***Bonus: Chenya*** — Chenya definitely feels like the kind of roomie that eats the food you left in the fridge and then claims he has no idea where it went (while there are incriminating crumbs around his mouth). His UM also has potential to make me feel uneasy in the same space (like… he could be anywhere x.x). The only reason I’ll tolerate rooming with Chenya is because he’s a cute cat boy.
Acceptable
🌹 — Riddle’s just... okay. I can see myself getting irritated whenever he's being a stickler about certain rules being followed or things having to be done a certain way (since I hate being told what to do). Then again, I'm also a stickler for certain things (like no outdoor shoes inside the house; always wear house slippers instead). If we can compromise and avoid shouting (assuming this is post-book 1 Riddle), that would be great. If it’s book 1 Riddle… yeah, I’m tiptoeing around him and/or he gets lowered into “Absolutely NOT”.
♠️ — Nothing that notable about Deuce or how he lives, he’s just not a very strong contender for what I’d like in a roommate. Phone calls to his mom aren't so long or so frequent that they'd be an annoyance.
🐙 — Pro: Azul does all the math for us when it comes to the bills. Saves me a lot of hassle. Con: he’ll ask for compensation for every little thing he does. It balances out, I guess.
🐬 — As much as I'd love to have a live-in butler, I don't trust Jade for one second to not be plotting something behind my back. Sure, he's polite and does all the usual malewife things, but I never know when this man has slipped a new breed of mushrooms into dinner to test the effects of its consumption on me (BRO DID THIS DURING MASTERCHEF AND I'LL NEVER LIVE THAT DOWN). Jade also seems like the type of roomie to smile to your face but shit talk you when you're not around 🤡 It's fine, I'm a masochist so I'll let it happen/j
🐉 — I mean. He's acceptable as a roommate, but Malleus feels like the kind of person you rarely even see in the apartment??? And whenever he does show up, you're shocked that you've spotted him. That means I'd basically have the place to myself for most of the time, which is great for an introvert like me.
Omg pls
🐆 — Ruggie’s got tons of experience looking after Leona, I’m sure those skills will transfer over nicely to rooming with me. I guess my only concern here would be fighting with Ruggie over small savings (like maybe a spare coin or the last of the leftovers), because we’re both frugal and want to hoard whatever he can get our grubby little paws on.
🐺 — Jack keeps to himself and wouldn’t bother me 😌 Good boy!!
💤 — He’s quiet when he’s awake and/or half asleep (and honestly, what a mood). Silver would be such a peaceful roomie… plus, all his woodland creature friends basically provide free animal therapy. Since Lilia often left Silver home alone while he embarked on worldly travels, Silver’s already got experience in homemaking and a willingness to pitch in.
🐱 — Grim is this high up only because he is cat-shaped and therefore he is basically a Real Cat. He is my pet now. I will feed him and bathe him and take good care of him. If he shreds the furniture or sets it on fire though, he’s being put in time out.
***Bonus: Rollo*** — Listen, think of the entertainment value of this 😳 Rollo would be that roommate that looks very collected and unassuming, but every so often goes on these outrageous rants once his anger is stockpiled and he can’t contain it anymore. I’d sit there listening to him go off about how magic is evil, how we’d all be happier without it, etc. And like… while I don’t necessarily agree with his rhetoric, the complete character shift to being unfiltered and unhinged is just so fascinating to observe. (… Oh yeah, and Rollo would be pretty good at cleaning since NBC students as fastidious about that kind of thing.)
You’re my new best friend
♣️ — If you give me free food then I will love you forever and ever. Trey gives free food. Therefore, I suddenly love Trey. Jokes aside though, I do see him as someone who has his shit together and wouldn’t stir the pot. He’d do his fair share of chores (including the cooking) and doesn’t have an abrasive personality that would make it difficult to be around him. Bonus, I can ask him for free dental hygiene advice and we can geek out about teeth together.
🐍 — Jamil has a similar domestic skillset as Jade, but the difference is that Jamil doesn’t go out of his way to deliberately cause problems or to enable others to act out. If I let him do his own thing and don’t get on his bad side, I think Jamil would be respectful to me as well. I’ll be happy to eat any of his delicious cooking 🤤 and in return, I’ll be his bug slayer—it’s a good deal!!
🤖 — It’s like having all of the household tools you need in one, plus a security system and a new little bestie 😌 I’d trust Ortho with my life 💕 We also save on the food and water bill since he doesn’t need those things to function, just electricity every so often to charge!

Hi Adira!
Last week and next week I am living the life of a paid musician (pit then orchestra) and I am fried. Seeing as how you’re familiar with the professional performer life, I was wondering if you have any advice on how to make it mentally and physically sustainable?
I am hoping that more of these opportunities will come my way and I want to be able to do it without spending a week in bed afterwards…
Ooof. I've been there. I mean, you gotta do the basics--sleep, good food, water. I also rely on copious amounts of coffee.
But the thing that usually gets me through a prolonged show-mode slam is plan ahead and then literally taking it one. day. at. a. time.
Don't look down those calendar days and wish for Friday. It's only going to make you burn out on Tuesday. Literally living in the moment saves my ass every time. Assess what you need from moment to moment. Are you hungry? Need a snack? Just sit and rest? Got a couple of hours but just exhausted? Don't worry about the "other stuff." That will be waiting for you at the end of the week. Just do what you need to that day to feel rested in your mind and body. Even if it's just zoning out to tv; don't feel guilty about that. It's just for this moment. There will be productive moments later. This one is for Narcos.
This is not to say you shouldn't plan ahead. Get your laundry done before the big week. Make big batches of good food you can eat on the go or take very minimal time to prepare for a meal so you don't stress about food prep or fall into the trap of fast food which will zap your energy and time and moneys.
One of my biggest events of the year is a two-week period where I'm literally at the office at 10am, participating in the evening events from 5-11pm, and then co-hosting an after-event until around 1am. When you factor in drive time and showers, that leaves me just enough time to sleep. Sometimes.
So I make sure to do my laundry right before. I'll even maybe organize my closet in a way where I can just pull out clothes without thinking too hard. Take an assessment of your groceries/toiletries and make sure you have what you need, because nothing will frazzle you more than not having it and/or having to squeeze in time to get to the shops. (If you do have to have something, mail order.) Make a go-bag for the week with anything you might need (including an extra change of clothes if you need it).
And if there's anything you can put off until after the big event, PUT IT OFF. Just mentally prepare yourself for big focus on the performing for that short burst of time.
When my big event is coming up, this is an example of what I do for food:
Bag of nuts and/or trail mix to keep in my bag.
Bag of carrot sticks I can keep in the fridge at work and a jar of peanut butter at my desk specifically for them. Fk spooning that shit out, dip your sticks in it.
I will boil up an entire family-sized package of Buttoni tortellini, dump in a whole container of the brand's pesto sauce, one whole chopped bell pepper, three whole packages of sprinkle tomatoes (or one package of halved cherry tomatoes), a whole package of peas (steamfresh microwave packet), and half a chopped red onion. MIX. That will give you a pasta salad for at least a week that you can eat cold right out of the fridge or warm up real quick and has a ton of veggies. And if you need protein, you can fix your meats separately and just add them in when you fix up a bowl. The key is to pack it full of tasty veggies you like that will balance the oils/fats of the pesto and turbo charge the carbs for lots of energy. (Pro tip: get a pair of really good kitchen scissors if you're like me and bad at chopping veggies or have terrible knife skills or terrible knives. So much quicker to cut.)
Starbucks via packets are a life saver if you have access to hot water and don't have time to make/grab coffee.
Laugh when you can. Step outside and focus on one thing--one flower, the way the sun hits a stop sign. Let your brain be simple for a little bit every day--I call this "letting it hang to get the wrinkles out". When you've been stationary too long, stretch. And when you feel stressed, close your eyes and imagine Pedro gently placing a finger on any spot that is tense until you let it go.

I don't know how ARAs see "people should generally be eating more plants and fewer animal products" and misinterpreting it as "meat is bad and unhealthy and makes you sick and plants fix your health problems." A lot of people just don't eat the right balance of plants and animals. Produce goes bad super quickly so a lot of people buy it in very small quantities or just skip certain produce because they won't eat it fast enough. And all the shelf stable junk food or pre-prepped meals have a lot of dairy and/or eggs and not a lot of veggies. Your brain is also just hardwired to seek out food that's more nutrient dense and high energy, that's why eating cheese feels so good but carrots don't scratch that same itch - and no it's not because it's ~addictive~ it's because your survival instinct seeks out the food that gives you the most energy. Fats and carbs are more desirable than vitamins and minerals. Thats also why bread and pasta are also eaten in excess. But bread and pasta aren't bad for you or make you sick, they're just more nutrient dense than produce. That's also why people should eat more produce than meat and dairy, because it takes a hell of a lot more of the former to get what the latter gives. You only need a little bit of bread or beef, but you can eat tons of carrots or lettuce. So when nutritionists talk about how people would be healthier if we limited the amount of animal products we eat and introduce more fruit and veg to our diet they're not saying that plants are healthy and animals are unhealthy, they're telling you to find the right balance between them.
Tldr; "eat more vegetables" =/= "animal products are bad for you"

SR Floyd Leech Apprentice Chef Personal Story: Part 2
"Master Chef"
(Part 1) Part 2
Tumblr media
[Kitchen]
Master Chef - Floyd Version ~Let's Make Pescatore Bianco 2~
Floyd: Heat olive oil and garlic in the frying pan, and when they become fragrant, add the other ingredients.
Floyd: Quickly sauté everything, then add the white wine and let it steam under the lid.
Ghost Chef: I had prepped some extra ingredients just in case, but it looks like you don't need them at all.
Ghost Chef: Can you put the food you didn't use back into the refrigerator?
Floyd: 'Kaaay~
[opens fridge]
Floyd: Ah, there's a ton of veggies in this fridge. Oooh, they're all super colorful.
Floyd: I see fruit tomatoes, eggplants, yellow zucchini and… what's this huge coral lookin' thing~?
Ghost Chef: That's called a romanesco, which is a type of cauliflower.
Floyd: Oh, so it doesn't need any special prep or nothing, huh. I'll throw this in too.
Ghost Chef: Shoot! I answered on autopilot! You're just going to use an ingredient you're seeing for the first time like that with no hesitation!?
Floyd: Well, 'cause, if it was something with a specific taste or texture, you woulda started with that.
Floyd: You coulda said "that's real bitter," or "that's super hard to chew." Eh, I mean, I guess I'm not the type to say anything either, so.
Floyd: All you said was that it's "a type of cauliflower," so…
Floyd: That just means it'll basically have the same taste and texture of a cauliflower, right? Am I wrong?
Ghost Chef: Th-That's right, but…
Floyd: Right? If it's like a cauliflower, it should absorb the seafood extract to make it even more yummy.
Floyd: The flavor of that chicken I added earlier should also get a nice flavor to it. Mm, but I kinda wanna add one more thing.
Floyd: Ah. That's right, I saw some fruit tomatoes earlier. I'll get some added sweetness from that, and I'll also throw in the eggplant and zucchini…
Ghost Chef: Aaah, Floyd-kun! Don't just start adding random ingredients again… No, wait a moment.
Ghost Chef: With only my one response, he's completely grasped the nature of ingredients he's unfamiliar with and figured out how to make them compatible with his dish.
Ghost Chef: Floyd-kun's potential is greater than I could possibly imagine. If I let him do his own thing, maybe he'll come up with something incredible…!?
Floyd: Dum-de-duuum ♪ I got shrimp, squid, and octopus; chicken and veggies~It's gonna taste so good~♪
Tumblr media
Floyd: The Pescatore Bianco's done~♪ Whaddya think? Looks good and colorful, yeah?
Ghost Chef: Yes, yes, it's fantastic! You even thought about how to plate it and made a good choice to leave out the shrimp heads!
Floyd: Wow, that's some high praise… You were complaining so annoyingly earlier, what's with the change of heart all of a sudden?
Ghost Chef: Fufu… As I watched you arrange your dish, my chef's inquisitive nature was piqued.
Ghost Chef: But, this volume of food… Isn't there double the normal portion here?
Floyd: Since the pasta's the most filling, there's still only a single portion of that in the dish, so I'm pretty sure anyone can finish the whole thing, no problem.
Floyd: Mmkay, so time to bring the food out.
Tumblr media
[Cafeteria – Judging Venue]
Jade: I wonder if the dish has been completed. It is beginning to smell quite delectable… Oh, hello, Floyd.
Floyd: What, Jade's my judge? Cool, I guess coincidences do happen sometimes.
Jade: I suppose so. I am a little shocked, myself.
Floyd: Mmkay… Here's the dish you ordered. Please enjoy~
Tumblr media
Jade: Oh my, my… There is much more in this Pescatore Bianco than any I've ever seen.
Jade: You've used not only seafood, but also chicken and vegetables. It looks quite nutritious and hearty.
Jade: I suppose we could say it is made in "Floyd's Whimsical Style"...
Floyd: Whatever, why don'tcha just eat it already?
Jade: Actually, I've just come from flight classes, so I am absolutely famished… I'll dig in without further ado.
[bite, chew, chew, chew…]
Jade: The seafood and chicken don't overpower the other at all in a good balance of flavors.
Jade: The vegetables not only are a colorful addition to the plate, but are also well seasoned.
Jade: Yes… This is a rather delicious Pescatore Bianco.
Floyd: Seeee~ I told you it'd be a proper Pescatore Bianco, huuh?
Ghost Chef: N-No, we cannot say for certain! This could just be favoritism from a family member, so we should have a more extensive evaluation…
Ghost Chef: Wait, THAT HUGE HELPING OF FOOD IS ALREADY GONE!?
Jade: I was quite hungry, so it went went down so quickly.
Ghost Chef: Floyd-kun, why're you sporting such a huge identical grin as him…!?
Ghost Chef: …I can see from the look on your faces just how good it actually tastes.
Ghost Chef: Wait a minute, were you thinking about how you wanted the final dish to taste and planned out all the ingredients accordingly!?
Floyd: Planned? Why would I go through something that annoying each time I cook?
Floyd: If you eat three meals a day, you should pretty much figure everything out. Stuff like, "if I put these in the same dish, they'll go good together," or "if I put this in, it'll ruin the flavor,"
Ghost Chef: Is that so… You're already at that level of proficiency, I see. Marvelous! That's simply marvelous, Floyd-kun…!
Ghost Chef: That sense of yours is a talent that would be hard to find for most chefs. It really is quite impressive!
Ghost Chef: Let's try to develop that talent even further throughout this session of Master Chef!
Floyd: Hmm~ At the Mostro Lounge, they're so annoying with all that talk of cost or whatever, and doesn't look like that'd be a thing here…
Floyd: Maybe it won't suck takin' this class for a little while longer. Ahah ♪

After the initial - I don't deserve you, I'm too old for you, I'm always away, etc phase - he would finally relent and properly asked you to be his... girlfriend.
Since it was his first serious relationship, he wasn't exactly sure what it entailed. Of course, he knew the "proper relationship" tropes from movies, books, and Goose and Carol, but you didn't exactly fit into any of those categories, and he wanted to bring heaven to you, he just didn't know how. Yet. What he did know how to do, was how to fix things, so he started there.
He took care of your leaky faucet in the kitchen first. Next, he replaced that one glass panel in your bedroom window, that started to crack. Later he connected the water pump in the garden to the main line, so you wouldn't have to drag heavy watering cans from the inside of the house anymore.
When you mentioned that you wanted to paint one of the walls in your living room gold, he went to the ends of the Earth to find four different shades of metallic paint you might like and prepared everything, and that included taping the corners of the other walls and ceiling, putting protective foil on the floor and getting you all the rollers and paintbrushes you could possibly need. And when you were finished and decided that you wanted to paint realistic clouds on the ceiling, he was right there with you, researching the best techniques and renting a proper scaffolding for you, so you wouldn't have to balance on a ladder for three days straight; he wanted to do so many things for you, but respected that you also wanted to do them on your own, so he was just happy to... well... make you happy.
When you couldn't find a specific coffee table you wanted, he spent hours upon hours asking you questions about it. What wood would be the best, did you want it stained? How about edges, rounded or squared? The exact dimensions...? To which height you wanted the countertop to raise, so you could still work and eat on it? How many compartments on the inside? Did you want any drawers...? How tall the legs should be...? And after about two weeks of those relentless questions, you came back home to the exact table you wanted, because he built one for you, with a small help from his friends.
He very quickly noticed that you didn't drink coffee, observed which teas you'd prefer during the day, and was ready with one as soon as you realized you wanted it.
When he was in the country, he was the one doing the majority of day-to-day cooking, while you were the one who took care of preserving fruits and veggies from your garden for longer terms.
Since you had an inquisitive mind and loved understanding exactly how things worked, he answered every question you had in extreme detail. It didn't matter if it was about that fixed leaky faucet or the engine of his plane and why it needed that exact maintenance.
He was always happy to teach you new things, and learn new things from you.
Since you quickly became a top specialist in your field, you didn't have to work as much, because you were usually called only as a last resort or to teach courses, leaving you tons of time to work on your home and to spend time with Maverick; and you both used it to the fullest. He was genuinely interested in your work, even if he didn't always understand everything, and that sometimes made him wonder if the interest was actually there, or did he enjoy seeing you talk about something you were so passionate about, that he would do anything to maintain that level of energy in you. Either way, he ended up with a much higher level of knowledge about cloud engineering than some of your colleagues.
When you expressed interest in the local huntsman community, he was right there with you, learning and acing all the tests about maintaining a proper balance in nature, how to create spaces for endangered species, and sometimes - how to help control a population. He was there when you killed your first deer, and held you close when you cried. You knew it had to be done because he was attacking and killing the younger bucks in the area, yet still - it affected you. And he guided you through those complicated emotions. After the meat was tested, he was the one to properly process and preserve every possible part, and that helped you feel less guilty, because every part of that majestic animal was properly utilized, and it fed both of you for over half of winter.
Even as a kid you wanted to do as many things as you could from scratch, that's why you ended up in a small house next to the forest, with a giant garden, that already had a proper orchard, and he never batted an eye when you wanted to plant new veggies, try freeze drying or dehydrating them, and when the pantry next to your small kitchen filled up, he was the one that came with the idea of building a root cellar, and you took a course on building one together.
And next year, when you wanted to get chickens, he was the one who researched what would be needed in the coop and built one from the recycled haul of the plane, which made you laugh so hard because you just loved it. And after that, when you wanted to start a small colony of bees, he was right there with you, preparing proper frames and contacting local beekeepers in search of a hive.
He helped you maintain everything in tip-top condition, even though you were the one who usually got up first to do some light weeding, feeding the chickens, and gathering eggs. He was up just as you were finishing up, and was ready for you with tea and breakfast.
It was only natural that he was the one to move in because he knew that you would suffocate living in assigned housing on base, so far from nature. He loved that duality in you... You were working in a very technical and futuristic field, and yet, here you were... Gathering honey from your bees.
You knew he was doing a lot for you, but it first hit you how much, when he was deployed for the first time since he moved in. All the teas, the cooking, making sure that you'll actually eat during work... Of course, there were other, more technical things around the house, but you were more aware of those since you knew the building in and out, and you knew you'd had to take care of them when he was out. But there were so many small things that you didn't even notice during the regular day, which made you feel guilty because you weren't doing as much for him... An empty house was something that you could stomach, an empty bed...? Let's just say it was harder. That's when you noticed that he left three of his favorite t-shirts and his leather jacket, and you took full advantage of wearing them almost every day. The shirts quickly stopped smelling like him, but the jacket... it was what helped you the most since the calls were so few and far between. He couldn't even tell you where he was, so you weren't even able to check the news from that area.
When he proposed, he didn't do it in some grand way, because he knew you would hate it... He actually planned a beautiful two-day hike to the top of a mountain, just the two of you, where he planned to propose, but a huge storm caught you, and you had to pitch a tent in a rush because coming down was more dangerous than staying where you were. And the storm just went on and on... So you've spent the whole night just... talking, nothing else. Whispering soft stories about your time together, possible plans for the future, and the silly little project you wanted to do around the house... All the words were barely written into existence before being drowned by the sounds of rain viciously attacking your tent. And when in the morning the storm was still raging, he realized that you're not gonna move anytime soon, and he just couldn't wait any longer, so he pulled out a small box with a simple, handmade ring with a green stone embedded in such a way, that it wouldn't snatch on anything. You of course said yes because for you - it was perfect and unusual, and you loved to tell that story, even if most of your friends couldn't quite understand why.
He insisted on having a prenup, since you were the one who was earning more in your relationship, but to be honest, both of your pensions were mostly piling up in your accounts since you were mostly living from your land, which somehow wasn't the plan when you first bought the house. Sure, you wanted to have some fruits and veggies during the summer, but it somehow evolved into this beast that you loved more than anything, because your land basically became a living thing that required love and attention, but was giving so much in return. You eventually decided to get solar panels and dig a well, after one particularly long break in receiving water and electricity after the hurricane. You weren't one of those people that were getting ready for the apocalypse, and you definitely wouldn't try to force a similar lifestyle on anyone. And of course, you didn't judge anyone for living differently. You just found it funny that you've found yourself in this position, but you loved every moment.
When it came to gifts for special occasions, he never gave you something that you could just buy yourself. It was either something you wanted, but couldn't find anywhere, or an experience. Because of that, he took you to pottery classes, found a bookbinder who spend a weekend with you, teaching you the basics of making and conserving paper, and later - how to properly bind it. He also took you to a jewelry workshop, where you learned different methods of casting metal, and after that, he found a geologist who took both of you for a day-long adventure all about finding raw crystals and how to recognize fossils hidden in simple stones; you still had few of those on your fireplace.
He was never the biggest fan of public displays of affection, but neither were you and yet when you on occasion grabbed his hand and intertwined your fingers, he never let them go.
He learned everything there was about you... Not only what was visible on the surface, but because he spent so much time looking at you, he knew things even you didn't know were there. He noticed that when you were working, you preferred to use one specific type of perfume, and you were using them unconsciously when you needed to focus on work. So when he noticed you were having trouble focusing on the task you just had to do, he smeared a bit of them behind your ears, kissed the top of your head, and in only a few minutes you were back to clicking on your keyboard at the speed of light. He noticed that you gravitated to one specific brand of pens when you were documenting what you did in the garden and when you were tracking the crops, so he made sure that they were always laying around the house in visible places, and it wasn't even your favorite brand, you just liked them for this specific activity.
When you were leaving for a week with your friends, he not only drove to the meeting point but prepared snacks for the road for everyone, and even made a thermos full of mulled wine, and you knew that you were leaving your home in very capable and loving hands, so there was not even a second when you were worried when some of your friends did... About their husbands, about their kids... And you...? After all those years you two became an extension of each other and there was nothing but trust between you two. And when you came back after a whole week of backpacking, there was a white gazebo with a blue roof, and a swing mounted to the ceiling in the corner of your garden, a mirror image of what you had in your head. He even planted the vines on the sides, but it would be a while until they'd covered the intricate white paneling.
At first, it was hard for you to pinpoint a way he'd preferred to receive your love and attention. He wasn't the biggest fan of gifts per se... He of course cherished everything you were giving him, like that stupid pendant you cast in your metallurgy course, that somehow managed to look a little bit like a plane. And the mugs you made together during the pottery course... But something like an expensive watch or a new bike was definitely out of the question. When it came to words of affirmation... He had an extremely complicated relationship with compliments, even if they were genuine, but he loved hearing you say that you love him, so you would try to pepper that in during the day. Neither of you liked touching that much. Of course, there was occasional cuddling, but it wasn't something either of you craved; it was more of a comfort thing after a long day. There was one exception though... He simply melted when you were playing with his hair, didn't matter when or where, it was like his reset button. And even though he showed love by doing things for you, when it came to receiving love the same way, he was more than uncomfortable, so you also had to wiggle around that. And then there was just... time spent together. Didn't matter if you were actually doing something together-together, or you were just simply there, reading a book when he was fixing up the plane. Or if he was going over paperwork on the terrace while you were doing something in the garden.
Simply spending time with you was recharging his batteries, and your single smile was able to make all the worries go away in a blink of an eye; he just couldn't stay frustrated or angry in your proximity, which was fun to see when you were spending time together with his friends from the navy, because they rarely got to see him as you saw him every day. He was much calmer, less anxious, and somehow... more confident...? Of course as a pilot and a captain, he had to be confident in his decisions, but with you near... It was just another type of confidence, at least that's what Ice said. He couldn't explain it in more detail though.
You two worked well together and somehow managed to avoid serious fights over the course of your 14 years of marriage. Sure, there were disagreements, but neither of you was above admitting when you were wrong, so you never got properly angry, having too much respect and love for each other to assume less than the best about the other person.
You were the couple that your friends looked up to and were a tiny bit jealous of... You were the couple that randomly started dancing in the kitchen when "Snowman" by Sia came on the radio. You were the couple that after all those years looked at each other as if you saw each other for the first time ever. You were the couple who read books to each other out loud. You were simply a couple that loved each other.

Soup:
Alright, buckle up, cause I'm about to give you the recipe to the most cottage-core friendly/I-want-to-eat-this-while-I-cry-at-2-AM potato soup you've ever eaten in your life. I originally got this from Pioneer Woman, but my family and I have tweaked it for extra deliciousness. Here's the ingredients you'll need: 6 strips of bacon, 1 onion, 10 potatoes, 96 oz of chicken broth, 2 cups of milk, 1 cup of flour, 1 cup of heavy whipping cream, enough shredded cheddar cheese to heal any and all childhood trauma for all of about 7 seconds like that scene from Ra-Tat-Touille (you know the one), and whichever seasonings you prefer (I usually go for salt, crushed red pepper, garlic powder, and ground cumin.)
Go ahead and dice your onion and cut up the potatoes into squares--aim for something about the size of a grape. Grab a big pot (like the biggest one you have) and cook the bacon to your preference (I usually make it crunchy to balance the softness of the potatoes). When it's done, you're gonna take the bacon, set it aside, and forget about it for the next hour. Don't pour out the grease, though. If you don't eat meat, you can ignore this entire step and just use butter/olive oil to cook the onions/potatoes.
Next, toss your diced onion in the pot and cook until golden brown. Add the potatoes and cook for five minutes uncovered. Move the potatoes around as you see fit. When the five minutes are up, drown the veggies in chicken broth and cook for ten minutes with the lid on and the heat on high. In the meantime, you can go ahead and start adding your seasonings to the broth. After ten minutes, check to see how soft the potatoes are; (they should be soft enough to eat before you continue). This could take a while, so during this time, feel free to ponder how something as stubborn and seemingly plain as a potato tastes so good.
Whisk together the milk and flour. Add it to the broth. Cook for five minutes. Add ya heavy whipping cream. Blend about 1/3 of the soup you have then add it back to the pot. If you don't have a blender, you can also just mash some of the potatoes.
Add a ton of cheddar cheese to the bowl(s) you plan on using and pour the soup over it. Lastly, break up the bacon from earlier into pieces and add it to the top of the soup.
You have now completed the soup side quest!
Sincerely,
This soup makes me feel like an NPC in a video game and idk about you, but that constitutes a good soup for me 💚
I’ve been hoarding this in my inbox for months from my quiz bc I really wanted to make it but Cato’s soup post has made me think I should publish it anyway bc soup good
I still want to make it tho and probably will someday.
Thank you for sharing it feels incredibly special and I’m honoured you’ve decided to send it to me

Happy Monday!!! Okay, this might be a random one: waking up with Spencer, but make it in a Ghibli AU….
No idea what you’d do with that, but it could be cute and cozy? Morning routines in those movies are often some of my favourite parts, they are so calming…
today is multiverse monday! send me any au you can think of :)
mmm no i've been rewatching them and i love them all sm - peak coziness!!
--
you'd probably have a little patchwork quilt on your bed, with tons of fluffy pillows that you pile everywhere when you sleep because you don't like putting them on the floor - spencer keeps one between his knees (he's an old man his joints are achy) and you've got an extra one under your head, then your feet are against one, etc etc etc
you've definitely got your own little garden that you make breakfast from!!!! now, don't get me wrong, the inside of the house is a fucking greenhouse as well, because you've got plants hanging off of, balancing on, and dug into every available surface (one time a vine grew out of your couch because spencer tipped a pot over and some of the dirt and one of the seeds spilled between cushions and it just grew there) but outside you've got a really impressive little garden!! all types of fruits and veggies (pumpkin farming with spencer :(( ) and a big grove of fruit trees!! harvesting peaches is so fun with him especially because you end up getting sticky peach juice all down your chin and he has to wipe it off </3
there's a little cliff above your house somewhere, you live in the countryside and there's bunches of hills and sometimes, if you wake up early enough, you get to climb up there with him and watch the sunrise!! you also go up there to watch it set but that's irrelevant to your morning routine <3
lots of tea and coffee !! you've always got a pot brewing or a kettle on the stove, more often than not in the mornings you're woken up by the kettle whistling and spencer rushing to pour it before it wakes you </3

Tonight's plan underway!
I wanted something easy to make and eat, and my body is calling out for more vegetables. So, I decided to go for one of my old classic "broke veg*n" specials: makeshift dal! With red lentils this time.
I'm also on my own for the weekend, and this should help keep me in somewhat balanced ready food through several meals, without even needing to cook an absolute shit-ton of the stuff. (As difficult as it may be for me to downscale!) I also am a much bigger fan of concoctions like this than my partner. Good timing to gorge myself on lentil curry.
Was having trouble bringing myself to even peel and cut up some carrot to put in there. So, I remembered that we do have some of that frozen vegetable blend that's largely made up of two colors of carrots. Fuck it, we're going frozen veggies all the way other than the onion. And that's only because I don't actually have frozen chopped onions right now, unlike the chopped garlic and ginger there.
The other veggies I grabbed out are some cauliflower partly thawed to cut into smaller pieces because it needed that, and some leaf spinach in that mug over to the side. All to go in at different points.
Not pictured: the onion that's currently frying in some oil, probably half a can of crushed tomatoes, and some bottled lime juice to add a little extra oomph at the end. Also items like a pat of butter to cook in the rice, and extra salt etc. I considered using coconut milk too in the dal, but this size batch wouldn't need the whole thing and I have no other plans for the remainder. It'll be fine either way.
Definitely not claiming this is any kind of actual South Asian dish, but it should be fairly tasty and filling.

I've had so many pelvic ultrasounds (almost one a year for the past 15 years) due to my pelvic pain and period symptoms over the years and the only thing that ever shows up is an occasional cyst.
My doctor recommended against a laparoscopy because there has never been anything to imply endometriosis.
I am not sure if it would change anything if it turns out I have it but in a way that doesn't show up on ultrasounds.
Any recommendations for what to ask my doctor next? What to research? I feel so powerless because the best I've managed in 15 years on any given birth control is about 6 months of feeling better before it takes a sharp nose dive again, and I get pretty strong side effects from most birth control so swapping sucks really bad.
To be fair, it is nearly impossible to diagnose endometriosis WITHOUT surgery. Nobody ever suggested it to me, I had no idea what it even was, until the OBGYN who did my surgery said “wow that’s one of the worst cases of endometriosis I’ve ever seen.” My surgery was to remove a cyst, we had no idea my organs would be glued together with endometriosis adhesions. Laparoscopy might be necessary for you to determine if there is endometriosis. A surgery to remove the tissue will help (birth control should keep it mostly under control, but it can grow back. I’ve heard some women go periodically to get their insides scraped out.) I’d highly suggest pushing your doctor for it, maybe even finding a new doctor or specialist who will do it. This is the only thing that will remove the pain.
Honestly I so get you about the birth control. It works for a bit and then seems to wean off. Or makes you even more sick! I switched to the depo shot a few years ago and it is the LEAST amount of pain I have been in for YEARS. I personally have very little symptoms with the depo, but I know that isn’t true for everyone. I know swapping sucks but I feel like you’ll eventually find one that works well with your body specifically. I know there’s more medications to try like a cocktail: metformin, spironolactone, mounjaro, and ozempic to name a few. I haven’t tried these yet but it’s my next step! I’ve also taken lots of vitamin supplements to help with symptoms like anemia, fatigue, and inflammation. I take things like B12, fiber supplements, probiotics, and vitamin D. I really like this supplement specifically and recommend it to my friends (a bit pricey but better than buying all the supplements individually, and I only take it 2-3X a week): Herb Krave Cyster Glow Supplement - 9-in-1 Premium Myo-Inositol & D-Chiro Inositol Blend - Hormonal Balance & Healthy Ovarian Function Support for Women – 120 Veggie Capsules https://a.co/d/1uxZkUC
Have you tried pelvic floor therapy? I had a wonderful physical therapist I saw for years, who gave me tons of resources and tips and ideas. Things like a tens machine, pelvic floor yoga, mental health tools, a list of medications to try, doctor referrals, etc. I would highly recommend getting a connection like that, especially if they have endo and can really understand your pain. Even just having someone to talk to with your shared experiences and pain is such a relief. It’s so nice for someone to just listen and understand.
I’ve read many articles online (even the good ones all have opposing advice, so take it all with a grain of salt), and I’ve bought a few books (there’s tons on Amazon!). I can’t say there’s one thing that has been all correct. Even now I am still learning. Unfortunately endo is just under researched and misunderstood. These are two books I have that I’ve taken some things into consideration. There’s tons of more books I’d like to get my hands on though. If anyone has more recommendations please reblog and add to the thread!

Anielka comes up to Angel with a plastic container of brisket, challah rolls, latkes, and roasted veggies. She's balancing a little container of soup on top of it.
"I have to make a second trip for the dessert and utensils, but I saved you a plate. Um, Mom always makes a ton of food so I thought...maybe you'd like some?"
@deepspacevivarium || Happy Hanukkah!
Tumblr media
His young friend is back! He stomps out a cigarette pretty quickly for her so he can see what new thing she wants to show, or what she might need from him. Instead, she comes closer and he can smell something.
Oh… Angel’s stunned a little, immediately the kid talks about saving a meal for him, she was dining with her family, and she thought of him.“You made a trip fa me? You ain’t had t’do that- comin’ to a place like dis on… Anielka, thank you. Das very sweet a’ ya.” Huh. Weird, his vision blurs briefly, now his cheek feels wet.

Big City Greens s4 ranking (so far...)
Overall, with its first 10 episode segments now aired, I'd say BCG s4 is off to a pretty solid start! A couple meh episodes here and there, but also some really GREAT episodes too! Going through them all:
Handshaken: Without a doubt my favorite BCG ep of this season so far. If you know me, you know how much I absolutely LOVE Bill, so it was great seeing him get to be a bit of a handshake badass in addition to his usual humble and sweet self ^v^ Seeing him teach Cricket a lesson was great, and the ep itself just had a ton of funny jokes and some great boarding. Remy trying to be 'country' was also cute and endearing.
Jingled: Honestly, it was a toss-up between this and Truck Stopped (it truly was an incredibly strong season premiere). Ultimately though I rank Jingled just a teeeeeenny bit higher since I really loved Tilly's jingles. As a creative myself, I definitely related to her whole arc. I also loved Cricket keeping an eye on his sis and encouraging her to take care of herself, even while taking advantage of a big company, haha. The stuff with Bill and Alice at the veggie stand was also really cute.
Truck Stopped: Another ep that's relatable, funny and has a great lesson. Truck stops and gas stations are a really fun setting, and for as much as they were bickering in this ep, it was also a great showcase for why these two make for such a great sibling team.
Chipped Off: This episode manages to be both hilarious and fascinating when it comes to showing what Chip has been up to since his defeat and exploring his mental state and the core flaws of who he is that led him to this point. Several jokes from this ep truly got me, and that whole scene with ‘Norm’ and the Mirror Chip was just SO well boarded and great to watch. Truly fantastic ep and a great way to reintroduce Chip (although I’ve gotta say, for as much as I usually like characters with glasses, Norm!Chip looks fucking cursed)
Stand-Up Bill: A very silly ep but also one I enjoyed, even if it was very much a farce. To probably no one's surprise, I enjoyed Bill's arc a lot, and seeing him form a genuine connection with Fred was super sweet. The stuff with Tilly and Cricket with the roast comedian was pretty fun too, and while their revenge on her was maaaaybe just a bit uncalled for (given that Cricket literally asked to be roasted) at least they didn't humiliate her in front of a whole crowd or anything like that. Just a bit of harmless slapstick.
Iced: I’m really glad this ep wasn’t JUST Alice and Nick fighting. Like Alice says, the whole Green family is kiiiinda a mess, so Nick truly does fit in in that sense. All the little subplots are both entertaining enough and are just the right amount of silly. These eps where each Green has their own little subplot are always pretty fun. Sorta standard ep, but enjoyable enough!
Coffee Mates: Pretty good ep! It was simple and perhaps a bit on the predictable side, but Cricket was in great showing here, being not only funny but also showing his responsible side as well as encouraging Gloria to be better and find her work/life balance. You feel a bit bad for all he goes through, but there's a light enough tone to it that it never feels like the kid's being tortured, and his strike afterwards was pretty funny. The ep also has a good moral, and it was nice to see everything work out.
Junk Junkie: Ehhhhh... A couple bits were funny, and I can certainly understand WHY Bill went to such extremes (I'm pretty sure the man has some sort of financial PTSD considering how many times he's nearly lost his home/gone bankrupt) the execution of the plot itself was pretty standard and didn't do much to really grab me. Not bad by any means, just okay.
Bad Dad: As the official re-introduction to Nancy's dad, I thought it was just okay. As I said in the post I made following the ep's premiere, I am glad that they redeemed Nick somewhat by making him respectful of Nancy's rules and having him actually work in exchange for living there. I also appreciated the ep for not totally villainizing Nancy's refusal to forgive her dad and not trying to force a 'fixed' bond between them - they make it clear that she's only tolerating him for the sake of her kids, but at the same time she isn't going to excuse or overlook any shenanigans either. It's not perfect by any means - I certain understand those who feel Nick still got off too easily or who see him as too bad of an influence to be kept around - but considering the type of ep it is, it could have been a LOT worse.
Green Trial: Okay so... Personal bias on the table, I can't watch this ep without thinking of the Ghost and Molly McGee ep "Innocent Until Proven Ghostly". They're just too similar (Sunnyland Productions actually did a good comparison vid about it) and TGAMM definitely had funnier jokes and a much more interesting presentation with the whole crime documentary format imo. But even without the comparison, I just felt like this ep was pretty meh in general, not being all that funny save for maybe one or two lines and just being very predictable. It just sorta seemed like an excuse plot to lead into Nick's reintroduction. Also, while I get why they'd be so sensitive (Nancy cause the cake meant a lot to her personally and Bill because, well, he just loves sweets), I felt like Nancy and Bill were just a bit too mean in this ep. Overall, this ep just wasn't very fun, and that's the most important thing I look for in BCG
So yeah, as I said, a good overall start! ^v^ My only real critique is that a couple eps could've been a bit funnier or more interesting and that we need more Remy and Vasquez (hopefully we get a couple eps focused on them later in the season). Other than that, I'm pretty satisfied and looking forward to more!

Castletown Café Episode 11: Giga Salad
Tumblr media
We’re back again with another trip into Gaster’s library of cut content. I bet even the items and concepts that never made it in are just as canonical as everything in the final version of the game. It wouldn’t be too farfetched in the fourth-wall leaning worlds of Undertale and Deltarune, after all - the mere fact that they are games is canon.
This food, however, may have been cut for good reason - for one, the very description of this salad deems it useless, as it’s comprised solely of lettuce. Second, it only heals 4 HP to your team except for Noelle, to whom it heals a whopping 90. Why? Most likely, it has to do with her herbivorous nature as a reindeer, and she even comments as it being “something to graze on.”
But a salad consisting only of lettuce isn’t much of a salad at all....unless you use a ton of different varieties. Even with all these different kinds of lettuce, of course, it still needs more: another veggie or two thrown in for good measure, and what’s a salad without dressing and other toppings to make it extra delicious? With these upgrades, this Giga Salad is not only enormous - but enormous in flavor, too. Now it’s not so useless, but I’m sure it’d still heal Noelle the most, anyway. Hope she’d like lemon yogurt dressing!
This time around, everything was my own creation, down to the lemon Greek yogurt salad dressing. Ideas like this come to me when I can’t sleep, and on one such night, all the ingredients for the salad and the dressing just clicked into place! Of course, whether or not it would work, I didn’t know. But I did know right then and there to write down those ideas - right in the middle of the night - so I could mess with those ingredients the next day and see if I got something that worked, and oh boy, did it!! That’s the great thing about cooking on a regular basis: you gain experience points for each dish you make, and with that experience, your cooking creativity and skills level up!
That said, I still learned something with creating this salad: the walnuts and dried cranberries shouldn’t be mixed in with the rest of the salad as they’ll just sink to the bottom of the salad bowl. Instead, they are meant to be a topping when serving, so I have corrected that for the recipe.
Also, although the salad in my photo contains radicchio, I’ve omitted it from the recipe. Prior to this salad, I had never tried radicchio before, and now I realize why: it’s really bitter! Despite this, the bitterness didn’t ruin the salad for me at all, because there were tons of good stuff in there to counteract it. If you’re a fan of radicchio or other bitter vegetables, you can add it back in if you wish.
As for the dressing? It turned out perfectly! And this is coming from someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing half the time for this series. I was a little apprehensive of adding lemon juice to Greek yogurt, but then I remembered that the dill sauce from the previous episode turned out just fine with that ingredient combination, so, maybe this would turn out fine. The honey adds sweetness, and the olive oil and garlic give it just the right touch of savory to this creamy, slightly sweet, but not too sweet salad dressing that’s perfectly balanced in flavor and exceeded my expectations.
GIGA SALAD DRESSING:
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 tablespoon honey
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 clove minced garlic OR 1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
Salt to taste
Wash and zest lemon, putting 1 teaspoon of the zest into a small bowl. Cut lemon in half and juice one half with a hand juicer. Fill up a tablespoon with juice and add to the bowl with the lemon zest.
Add about a tablespoon of honey into the lemon mixture, it’s okay just to eyeball it.
Peel and mince 1 clove of garlic (or just measure one tsp of garlic powder) and add to the bowl.
Add in olive oil, yogurt, and stir to combine, adding just a little salt to taste.
GIGA SALAD:
2 leaves Romaine lettuce
5 radishes
1 cup chopped or shredded green cabbage
A generous handful of the following: spinach, mizuna, chard, frisee, lolla rosa, & arugula leaves.
A generous handful of fresh chives.
Toppings:
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 cup dried cranberries
Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
Wash and dry all vegetables. In a large salad bowl, place your spinach, mizuna lettuce, chard, arugula, frisee, and lolla rosa leaves.
Chop up your Romaine lettuce and add to the bowl.
Chop or shred 1 cup of green cabbage and add to your salad.
Thinly slice your radishes into rounds, and add.
Finely chop up your chives, add to salad, and toss to combine.
Lastly, the toppings. Open up a bag of dried cranberries, chop up your walnuts, and grate Parmesan cheese.
