What you didnt know was that its very easy to get lost with him

Bc he's so excited/curious for new sights he doesnt give any fucks abt where he is, so it devolves into that "wait, I thought YOU were leading us there?? Then where tf are we??!!" very quickly

Does feel bad he stressed u out smtimes but he somehow manages to get into such wild shit that Hyrule's kinda preoccupied being confused/amazed/finding his way out, or any combo of these situations (once again, usually with you unfortunately)

Is the luckiest when it comes to getting lost or anything to do with "natural" things

Like he heard u rlly like this one fruit? Accidentally gets lost all day and panics all the Links + You until he shows up at midnight with a shirtful of them

("I found a few fruit trees/plants in the woods while wandering! I tried to grab a few for you and before I knew it, it was dark, sorry...")

Likes learning little skills from other people, like learning how to do makeup from Legend, or how to spot collections of rupees the Minish have left somewhere from Four, or how walk on any terrain from Wind (good at walking on a ship, on land, climbing etc)

More of a "sunset" hiker than a "sunrise" one

Likes to do your hair! Whether that be braiding, putting accessories (he handmade shhh) thruout it, or helping with hair maintenance, likes how strangely intimate but domestic it feels together with you (u return the favor ofc)

Gets anxious if he's late to things, likes being fashionably early (or ungodly, when u let him get away with it)

Casually cradles ur arms or back whenever ur falling asleep/tripping/being clumsy near him

Very warm and smoothed calloused hands

Thinks abt what he's about to say so hard/long, that the conversation's moved on by like, 3 rounds/subject changes by the time he's actually ready to talk

Scolds ppl (in like a sentence) who neglect their needs, like sleeping/eating/hygiene

Finds peace in nature, if hes ever upset, u can bet he's already taking a walk by a stream

Likes teaching u/other Links little skills he has, its nice to feel appreciated/needed for something other than fighting or big moments

He falls in love with small moments, like the first time u made them all a dessert recipe from ur world, or repaired First's scarf (for the millioneth time) and bc everyone had gotten their clothes scratched up, everyone needed repairs so most Links were sewing smth lol

Enjoys watching ppl experience smth for the first time, or even himself exp smth for first time

Fierce smiled fully for the first time when you got into the mountain hot springs in Wild's Hyrule for the first time and were super excited

Also the type to hold ur hand while stepping in to make sure u dont fall, or just subtly boost a Link that was abt to fall from climbing smth

Like for being the tallest, he's surprisingly sneaky, the energy of the biggest cat in the house yet somehow also the quietest

Does that thing where someone takes ur hand and like massages ur fingers, palm, wrist and shakes them out kinda for you <3

Twilight (Twilight Princess):

Trips UP the stairs.

Cold start LMAO

Easy to bully?? U mean that kindly, he's just such a golden retriever sometimes u cant help urself (tho u make sure to reign it in and not take advantage of it so as not to genuninely hurt him)

Lol likes to "herd" his favorite people, like those dogs livestock farmers have u kno that they say end up herding their owners/their family lol

Like making subtle circles around the Chain, wrapping an arm around Hyrule and teasing him to quietly bring him back into the group before he gets lost,

Tugs on Time's armor to slow him down, mf may be in armor head to toe but he'll outpace all of u 💀

Likes to put his hand on ur lower back to guide u back into the group from whatever scenic thing u got distracted by

(so sue you, ur literally in The Legend of Zelda's Hyrule, surrounded by pretty blondes, why tf wouldnt you be distracted all the time??)

The only time he doesnt herd actively is in Ordon, just subconciously lol <3

Terrible sleep schedule, but sleeps like the dead when he does, has collapsed with a limb on top of you and u couldnt escape

Hard time waking up in the morning despite being country boy, who usually have to do chores first thing in morning on a farm

hates/envious of Wild (up at 5am even on days off?? Foul.)

Runs warm, but complains abt a slight breeze?

Would sleep with no covers if it werent for morning dew

Wishes cats liked him more (its the wolf smell)

Twi has the constant energy of a tall person carefully maneuvering around cluttered/low doorways while someone a head shorter runs by him and bounces off of him

U get onto/scold the Links and he's immediately the first to just sit on the ground, or put down whatever he's holding no matter what he's doing LMAO 😭😭

Keeps his eyes on u too the whole time lol

Warriors (Hyrule Warriors):

Cries over romance novels/dramas

A virgo in all stereotypes of the word tbh

Invented the red-string conspiracy theory board before the red-string conspiracy board existed in Hyrule

Also likes to take care of your hair! (What?? He and 'Rulie don't fight over ur hair, that'd be childish, he's not a foolish boy- Hyrule, hand over the brush.👹)

Remembers the little things abt u type of person, like ur favorite drink, ur favorite stories like tv shows/books even if theyre from ur world, ur favorite clothing pieces like shorts vs. pants, etc.

The only Link who can single handedly claim he could take your closet and dress you in something you'd actually wear.

Honestly once he got the hang of it, would get better at dressing you, than you

Wars wakes up stiff sometimes bc soldier training is sleeping on ur back, hands to ur sides, laying straight in ur bed, so as to fit into bunks/bedrolls close together

It got better as he was promoted to Captain, so he could have his own quarters but its still a hard habit to shake

One of the few Links who works up the courage to genuinely pitfully ask if you'd mind massaging his shoulders again? He slept badly last night, please?? 🥺👉👈

Canon Characters vs OC vs x Reader

Disclaimer: This is just my two cents, and my perspective on things, and I'm not trying to lay down the law for everyone. I needed to just put this to words though, in order to sleep.

I was thinking about this because of a post I saw, and some, we'll say, kind of useless comments associated with the post. Mean-spirited stuff.

Normally, in one ear and out the other, but the vibes just kicked me off down a rabbit hole of sorts an I wanted to try to put some of my thoughts to words.

First, some style vibes:

Canon x Canon Canon/Canon stories are, to me, like reading an episode of that show. I'm sitting down in front of a TV or whatever, and I'm experiencing the story As A Viewer. I like this style because I don't really have to expend much energy and I just kind of roll with whatever's happening. Generally some sort of 3rd person perspective.

OC x canon OC/Canon stories are like being on a carnival ride. I'm sitting in a car on a roller-coaster, and maybe the OC is sitting next me. I'm experiencing the story more deeply than strictly canon stories, but my connection with the OC is no deeper than say, my connection with Katniss Everdeen when I read The Hunger Games. Sometimes 3rd person, sometimes first person.

Reader x canon Reader/Canon (or Reader x/ OC) is like putting on a VR helmet. I don't get much physical input about the "Reader OC" because I'm experiencing the story through their eyes. I don't expect the reader to be me, but there's a bigger feeling of immersion to be had. Some description might happen cause it's relevant to the story, and it's still a type of ride, I can't jump the rails on the roller coaster, after all. (Even with a VN you still follow the tracks). Sometimes first person, sometimes second person (I'm partial to 2nd person perspective, but that's just me).

I love Fan Fiction, I love it. All of it, and man even more than anything, what I love is that I'm going to dislike 80% of it. Because that 80% was written for someone who is not me. (Hell, that number's probably closer to 99% if we're looking at ALL fandoms, but I digress).

Second - The VENT:

What got me the most in the post that prompted this, was someone saying "Bring back the Mary Sue OCs!" and then they went on to describe something more detailed, and I just -

Look, respectfully, fuck you.

The point is, you're not going to be happy no matter what. Whether it's "mary sue" OCs, or x readers, or alternative universes, or a ship you don't like, you're going to find something to be unhappy about.

Cause people have been bitching about all styles of fan fiction since the first "You've Got Mail" chimed in 1991. And until 1998 and ff.net you really had to hunt for it, and until 2007 and Ao3 the idea of tagging a fic for any reason wasn't really a thing. Every click was a surprise! \o/

I just have seen the same song and dance a dozen times. It's exhausting. People become okay with OCs and decide x readers are the enemy, and before that OCs were *all* Mary Sues and cringe and people who made OCs were the enemy, and before OCs people who wrote even a little OOC were the enemy, and people who wrote AUs were the enemy, and you can write fan fic but it HAS to be Canon Compliant, and everyone MUST be in-character at all times - "They would not fucking say that" was the enemy.

Look, just please - please - in any capacity, stop it with the "All X style of story telling is crap" mindset. There's over a dozen different ways to do x readers alone. I know 20 x reader writers and I don't think any of us have the same style, preferences, or vibes.

I've had a lot of comments along the lines of "I thought I hated x readers, but I really loved this." on a few different fics I've written. Sometimes it's not the style of the fic, sometimes it's the style of the writer, and my Brother In Christ - you're going to have to read some awful shit to shuffle through the thousands of writers out there to find the vibes that resonate with you.

Ostracizing entire swathes of fan fic because you need something to be "The Enemy" so you can lift up something else, and then bitching you can't find anything new to read seems like a personal problem.

And I know y'all are scrolling by TONS of posts that don't interest you, every day, as a matter of course. So don't give me that "clogging up the tag" BS, because we deserve to be here same as anyone else in the fandom.

Observing John Adams.

yoyo this is for my amrev/1776 followers bc i've fallen off the tracks and i felt like writing tumblr fanfic at 4:30am on a school night

getting less than 3 hours of sleep >>>

Ben observes more than people think. Of course, being an innovator, a scientist, you need to observe. And he does. He just observes more than graphs and scientifical combinations. He observes people. Not just women, but also people like John Adams.

Grim, and dark, and black-haired, the man is like a raven. And that's what he is. Ben finds it funny. A squawking raven in Congress, loud and clear. Always on the move. Flapping its wings everywhere and never letting up because why would it? Why would it stop when there's so much to do?

At least, that's what Ben thinks as he watches John. They had to share a bed, and he was going to make the most of it by telling John all about his scientific notes about air and weather and hot and cold. Besides, opening the window was a better idea. But at some point during, John fell asleep. John always fell asleep during his nighttime rants. Ben didn't blame him, really: as much as he wanted to he knows he would've too. He knows. And he knows that John should stop, should take a break, should sleep. Should just stop moving.

But that's not in the Adams blood. To stop. No. John is a non-stop, moving force, always full of adrenaline and shouting and making motions. He can't stop, because he won't. Because there's so much more to do than what a day can offer, or a night for that matter. Because he has to move. If he stops, then what is he doing? He's never still. Always kinetic energy bounding across the room and zipping and flapping his lips as if everyone is paying attention. And almost nobody is half the time--but Ben, but Dickinson, but occasionally Tom. So he continues. He continues because he wants to. Has to. Needs to.

Ben looks up at the ceiling.

He's the same, actually. He'll admit.

Ben isn't always constant. He isn't. He takes his naps and he takes his breaks, but he can be a moving force when he wants. And that is the difference between them; Ben is a mover when he wants, John moves because he has to. It's not productive to stop for too long, it's not productive to take long naps, so in John's mind he needs to do something to be useful.

Ben would rather sleep like an old cat in Congress. But he has his moments too, when his brain is electric with thoughts and wonders and observations. Would it be too hot to make this? Or would it be too stale in the air for this to work? Or this? Or this? He has those moments. But it's expected from him--he does science, and John doesn't. He makes things, and John doesn't. Well, John does, but in a different way.

He looks at John again.

He also knows the man's lack of war experience eats at him like a spider to a bug.

Benjamin knows that John will always wonder why he wasn't asked. Why he wasn't asked to volunteer for the war. He'll wonder that all the way until he's Ben's age and older, with (admittedly) half as many diseases, with glasses and white stringy hair. A cane, maybe. It'd be a funny picture. The always-on-the-move John Adams, limping on a cane. Ben knows that's one of the things John can't live with. Not being useful in all ways. He'll always wonder: was he unavailable? Did he not fit the bill? Was he too short? Too tall? Too weak? John isn't weak, but he's not a unit either.

But personally, Ben doesn't think it's as important, really. All men around John's age and younger believe war experience and military service is the most important thing, above all else. Above education, above wealth, above family and other achievements. And maybe it is. To them, at least. In their age. Ben can't be bothered. He has gout as well. He'd be shot in an instant, maybe eaten if the Redcoats ran out of food.

He can tell John will always think of it, and he can tell John will not stop thinking of it. So he turns, slightly, to the man.

"John." he lightly pokes him. "John."

John Adams rolls over, squinting. It's dark. Truthfully Ben can barely see him; he doesn't have his glasses on. "What, Franklin?"

"Do you ever wonder where you'd be if you had war experience?"

John rolls his eyes. Or Ben thinks he does. Again, he can't really see him. "No. Now let me go back to sleep, and you, sleep in the first place, Franklin," then he rolls back over and is likely asleep the second he's facing the wall again.

Ben looks up at the ceiling. He can tell a lie when he hears one. He knows exactly what a lie is like from the man's mouth, and he'd just heard one. John isn't as fooling as he thinks. But he won't bring it up again, because he knows John wants to sleep. And maybe he should too. He can bring it up later, when they're energized and John is moving like lightning around the Congress room. Or maybe when there's a dull in conversation. Maybe then. And he thinks for a minute, because it's still hot, even with the window open.

Could he construct something that rotates the air and in turn cycles it, cooling someone down with the air repeatedly hitting them, like a version of the wheel but for air? Like a windmill.
