do you have any tips on how to start writing a VN I'm really wanting to make a VN but I have no idea where to start/how to start scripting and stuff

I'd say the first step is to think about what you want to do with your story. Don't rush things, after all a visual novel is pretty much carried by the story most of the time, so having a good understanding of what you want to write helps. You don't need to do anything complex in your first attempts, you can just try writing something simple, a story with few characters and a simple premise. For learning how to script you can join the Ren'py discord if you have any doubts, people there are really helpful. Also, there are plenty of tutorials only and even plugins/pre-made scripts to ease the process of writing the code. Trust me, programming a visual novel isn't hard at all, if an 11-year-old (me) could write lines of code, anyone can lol. Also, I'd recommend writing the script before starting to work on the visual aspect, knowing how the story develops and following a coherent narrative is very helpful when you're starting to work on the visuals. Idk about you, but I believe in the “Problem Sleuth, The Felt, and The Midnight Crew co-Exist in the same universe” supremacy even though it may not be true. It’s real in my heart 😞💖

I believe this with all my heart too!!! It would be wasted potential otherwise 😩

Personally I like when the Felt are included in the mix! Its either MC and Team Sleuth, or MC and Felt, but rarely all three. Like the idea of the Crew and Team Sleuth potentially working together against a common enemy is too good. Better the devil you know than the devil you don't, right?

This is where I start rambling and its really long, you don't have to read it! I just felt inspired (I even talk about this post)

I also like to imagine the historical innacuracies in the Problem Sleuth universe are due to the Felt messing with the timelines. Tho it's not like their universe was entirely accurate and realistic in the first place (it doesn't have to be), as stuff like innocuous doubles and the imagination realm are a thing that exist and make sense to them.

I should clarify two things:

As a noir artist (aesthetic, NOT values) who's really keen on history I've done plenty of research on the time period that PS is based on for my own stories, and I'm in no way saying that it should be accurate! I just think it's funny to imagine a gang who messes with time and space were the reason why a noir detective knows the existence of Snoop Dog.

I should also say that I apologize if my ideas have already been said or done before. I got no way of knowing what people in the 2010s came up with already (I was 8 when Homestuck was peak in popularity, have mercy). Tho I do have to thank a specific fanfic that triggered my monkey brain into developing a similar concept to what the author did with the Crew (Y'all have made me start reading fanfics again, I hope you're happy). it's Mr Suit and Tie btw.

All being said, I proceed to talk about my silly little universe half inspired by TWAU game.

Before the events of Problem Sleuth it was just Team Sleuth, the gals and Kingpin as n°1 public enemy. All living in a film noir world forever stuck in the prohibition era, and althought the years go by they essentially stay the same. Not until one day stuff not yet invented started to appear out of nowhere, time anomalies that affected sometimes even structures began to happen (Spiderman into the spider-verse type of anomalies), same time as two new criminal organizations began causing trouble.

Again, this was all before the events of Problem Sleuth. So they had time to accept these new changes over the years and grew accustomed to the new stuff around them, using them to their advantage even.

Also similar to GPI creating the universe thanks to time shenanigans, Slick created the city even if he "didn't exist yet" in this universe

As I explained in a previous post, Team Sleuth and other characters from the webcomic are all human in my interpretation (with a few exceptions). While the Midnight Crew and The Felt are just disguised as such. I don't have an explanation why or where they come from, nor do I want an explanation. As @/problemsleuth said "a little bit of supernatural & eldritchness goes a long way in making noir very very fun." and it's SO very true.

But why I find this particularly interesting is because I think it gives a great excuse why Team Sleuth is after the MC and the Felt. We're talking about a new set of characters who all weirdly possess strange abilities that could endanger the public (the MC with their shadow based magic and the Felt with their time shenanigans), and not just common mobsters. I don't think it's unfair for Team Sleuth as they got equally powerful friends and are not entirely incompetent at times. If they could beat DMK, they can beat anything tbh.

I got a lot more to say about the whole "human disguises" stuff, but this post is already too long and it's off topic (my whole rambling is off topic) so I'll leave it up to here.

I see you mentioning few times that you're grumpy, but honestly you make an impression of someone who is kindhearted and lovely.

Thank you! ♥ I would say that it's first of all because there is the barrier of the screen which can give this impression? I don't know if the word grumpy is very accurate though...! In real life I'm a rather cold person and not talkative. I'm frank and rough when I speak and I don't care about other people's feelings (I make efforts on it only for friends OFC, promise, don't run away from meeeqjdqjdqd ;___; ) ; Let's say it doesn't affect my sensitivity. And if I seem open in writing, it's because emojis, arts, and words allow me to express myself much better than I do orally, where I have a closed face, few facial expressions and little enthusiasm. :) (Earns me the reputation of a wild person or weird hermit in my family but damn… it's so hard to express yourself or show any sincere emotion when nothing comes to your body. Showing even the slightest smile makes me feel like I'm playing a role in a theater, i'm forced, when deep down I'm genuinely happy. Idk, maybe a connection doesn't happen in me).

I know that this is something that is often said when describing oneself ("I'm grumpy / I don't like it when people talk to me / I don't like when people touch me / I like to be quiet in my bubble / I can hardly stand people / I am a lonely person who doesn't care what others think / blah blah blah"), but without elaborating too much on my person I can say that in my case it is particularly marked !

It's always hard to explain that I'm not interested in other people (and everything about them) without sounding like a horrible person, at least I take too much blame for that, so I guess that's why I had to settle for describing myself as "just" a grumpy person? Maybe!

Anyway I repeat: FORTUNATELY after years of training I can manage this behavior with my friends OOF otherwise I'll be good at living alone for the rest of my life xD It's also about people or subjects that interest me! I'm not a complete Grinch. PS: my sister made me do the personality test and I'm apparently INTJ (architect), if that can clear things up? Idk, Idc ! I wrote too much to say nothing anyway-

Hellooo! Guess who's back

Alright, you probably didn't notice I was gone because I had a lot of stuff on queue but I actually wasn't here here. I've been really really busy this semester, a lot going on! New job(s), campaigning for a new student representative charge at uni, internship, lots of exams, new friends, parents divorcing so I'm probably moving soon, new get-used-to-being-outside-again, new I'm-not-that-depressed-now (yay), new maybe-i-do-like-my-career-after-all, new projects and goals! (Writing everything down I realized that it's been a lot, but I'm doing fine).

All of that made me distance myself from this hellsite (affectionate) due to my lack of time (and my poor ability to organize my time), I have no idea what I'm posting anymore, I had a lot on queue so Tumblr is still posting for me, which is kinda the idea I guess but there were things going on here? And I didn't notice? (I was tagged on some posts but haven't responded to it YET) I'm trying to catch up with all this stuff. My tagging system went to hell too and everything is messy (that kinda bothers me but don't think I'll find the time to fix it).

What I'm trying to say is I'm sorry I haven't been able to reply to posts or messages! I'm catching up little by little! I miss being here and being surrounded by mutuals and having our little interactions!

I like telling you what I've been up to, you guys are important to me so I like being clear, now that I've found the time to do it :-) I'm still studying for finals so I'll be around in my breaks from studying (sorry if I spam you with lots of reblogs, I've missed a lot of good content).

Ugh, this became a long post, so the short version is: I'm here again, I was busy adulting but I'm catching up with everything as soon as I can! (sooner than later, hopefully).

i remember when i was younger i woulf just imagine my enemies and i would date or something so i wouldn't be as mad at them for being traumatizing assholes, unfortunately it led to me having many kinks that i cannot engage in due to them being right about me being single forever. nonetheless, my highschool bullies we're hot because in comparison to middleschool, they we're for real just fucking with me as opposed to beating my actual ass everyday after school.

genuinely i think it's important for adults, especially in the plague times, to play pretend in our day-to-day lives. when i rub my back down with tiger balm so i can sleep without pain, i imagine i am a valiant knight tending to an old injury i received from a dragon. when i go to the store to pick up eggs and milk, i am a lone cowboy riding into town on a mission. when i turn my collar up against the wind i am a femme fatale who's killed 4 husbands and is scoping out a 5th. when i stomp around in the snow i am a doomed polar explorer. if being a little bit silly about my walk to the pharmacy helps me remember that life can be full of joy and whimsy, then so be it.

the thing is there's like, a point of oversaturation for everything, and it's why so many things get dropped after a few minutes. and we act like millennials or gen z kids "have short attention spans" but... that's not quite it. it's more like - we did like it. you just ruined it.

capitalism sees product A having moderate success, and then everything has to come out with their "own version" of product A (which is often exactly the same). and they dump extreme amounts of money and environmental waste into each horrible simulacrum they trot out each season.

now it's not just tiktokkers making videos; it's that instagram and even fucking tumblr both think you want live feeds and video-first programming. and it helps them, because videos are easier to sneak native ads into. the books coming out all have to have 78 buzzwords in them for SEO, or otherwise they don't get published. they are making a live-action remake of moana. i haven't googled it, but there's probably another marvel or starwars something coming out, no matter when you're reading this post.

and we are like "hi, this clone of project A completely misses the point of the original. it is soulless and colorless and miserable." and the company nods and says "yes totally. here is a different clone, but special." and we look at clone 2 and we say "nope, this one is still flat and bad, y'all" and they're like "no, totally, we hear you," and then they make another clone but this time it's, like, a joyless prequel. and by the time they've successfully rolled out "clone 89", the market is incredibly oversaturated, and the consumer is blamed because the company isn't turning a profit.

and like - take even something digital like the tumblr "live streaming" function i just mentioned. that has to take up server space and some amount of carbon footprint; just so this brokenass blue hellsite can roll out a feature that literally none of its userbase actually wants. the thing that's the kicker here: even something that doesn't have a physical production plant still impacts the environment.

and it all just feels like it's rolling out of control because like, you watch companies pour hundreds of thousands of dollars into a remake of a remake of something nobody wants anymore and you're like, not able to afford eggs anymore. and you tell the company that really what you want is a good story about survival and they say "okay so you mean a YA white protagonist has some kind of 'spicy' love triangle" and you're like - hey man i think you're misunderstanding the point of storytelling but they've already printed 76 versions of "city of blood and magic" and "queen of diamond rule" and spent literally millions of dollars on the movie "Candy Crush Killer: Coming to Eat You".

it's like being stuck in a room with a clown that keeps telling the same joke over and over but it's worse every time. and that would be fine but he keeps fucking charging you 6.99. and you keep being like "no, i know it made me laugh the first time, but that's because it was different and new" and the clown is just aggressively sitting there saying "well! plenty of people like my jokes! the reason you're bored of this is because maybe there's something wrong with you!"
