11 Common Dental Emergencies and What To Do About Them
We all know that feeling – a sharp pain in your tooth that seems to come out of nowhere. You may be tempted to ignore it, but dental pain is not something to be taken lightly. Not only is it extremely painful, but it can also be a sign of a serious dental problem. If you are experiencing dental pain, it’s important to see a dentist as soon as possible. But what if it’s after hours or you can’t get to a dentist right away? In this blog post, we will discuss 11 common dental emergencies and what you can do to alleviate the pain until you can see a dentist.

Knocked-out tooth
A knocked-out tooth is one of the most urgent dental emergencies and needs to be addressed immediately. You must act quickly to try and save the tooth. First, rinse the tooth off with clean water, then try to place it back in the socket. If that isn’t possible, store the tooth in milk, saline water or an ADA approved tooth preservation product. Do not attempt to scrub or remove any tissue that is attached to the tooth. And whatever you do, do not put the tooth in cold water. Next, contact a dentist as soon as possible and get to the office quickly. It’s important to get to the dentist within 30 minutes of the tooth being knocked out to give the tooth the best chance of being saved.
Severe toothache
A severe toothache can be anything from mild discomfort to a debilitating pain. If you are experiencing a toothache, rinse your mouth out with warm saltwater and use dental floss to make sure there are no food particles stuck between your teeth. You should also avoid eating or drinking hot or cold foods as these can exacerbate the pain. Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever can help with the discomfort, but avoid taking these on an empty stomach. In the case of a severe or persistent toothache, it’s best to seek medical attention from a dentist as soon as possible.
Loose crown or filling
A loose crown or filling can be the result of a fracture in the tooth or decay around the dental restoration. It’s important to get to a dentist as soon as possible, but in the meantime, it’s important to take a few steps to make sure the tooth does not get worse. Do your best to avoid chewing with the tooth and abstain from eating or drinking anything other than room temperature liquids. Additionally, use clove oil, which contains eugenol, a natural pain reliever, and dab a small amount on the affected area. This should help with the pain until you can see a dentist.
Partially dislodged tooth
If a tooth has been partially dislodged, rinse it off with warm water and gently try to put it back in the socket. If you are unable to reposition the tooth, store it in milk, water or an ADA approved product and get to a dentist as quickly as possible. While waiting to see the dentist, you can apply a cold compress to help reduce the swelling and take an over-the-counter pain reliever to help with the discomfort.
Bitten tongue or lip
If you have bitten your tongue or lip, the first step is to rinse the affected area with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce the swelling. If the bleeding does not stop, you may need to seek medical attention from a doctor or dentist. Oftentimes, a tetanus shot will be necessary if the wound was significant. Additionally, over-the-counter pain relievers can help with the pain.
Bleeding after a dental injury
If you experience bleeding after a dental injury, it’s important to seek medical attention quickly. First, rinse your mouth out with warm salt water to clean the affected area. Applying pressure with a clean piece of gauze can help to stop the bleeding, but if the bleeding does not stop after 15 minutes, it’s time to visit a doctor or dentist.
Infection in the mouth
If you experience a bacterial infection in the mouth, it’s important to seek medical attention quickly. In the meantime, rinse your mouth out with warm salt water, take over-the-counter pain relievers and use an antiseptic mouthwash, like chlorhexidine, to help reduce the pain and swelling. Additionally, avoid eating or drinking anything too hot or cold that may exacerbate the pain.
Facial swelling
If you experience facial swelling, it’s important to get to a doctor or dentist right away. Applying a cold compress to the area can help reduce the swelling and taking an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory can be helpful. Additionally, avoid consuming hot or cold liquids and eating hard or crunchy foods that may aggravate the area.
Severe jaw pain
If you are experiencing severe jaw pain, it’s important to see a dentist immediately. The pain may be caused by a number of conditions, including jaw injuries, bruxism, Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder or infections. Taking an over-the-counter pain reliever can provide some relief in the meantime, but it’s important to get to a dentist quickly to determine the cause of the pain.
Abscess
An abscess is a pus-filled cavity caused by a bacterial infection. If you experience an abscess, it’s important to contact a dentist as soon as possible. While waiting to be seen, rinse your mouth out with warm salt water and take over-the-counter pain relievers. If the pain is too intense, take a cold compress and apply it to the affected area. Additionally, try to avoid hot or cold foods since they may exacerbate the pain.
Conclusion:

I was rewatching some episodes for fun and realized that Tsume looks the most relaxed when he's near Kiba and -I need a moment. It's like the façade, or the mask of the big though guy he wears slips off whenever he knows only Kiba is there with him. Only Kiba makes him feel safe to be his true self around and I think that's so impactful. I really wish we would have seen more of the wolves' personalities outside of the constraints of the plot, like mundane things or habits real people do/have. I think every character acted and reacted the same way throughout the whole show with some exceptions at the end as the story was coming to a close. It would have been so much better if they wouldn't have, because people aren't so black and white, we act/react differently based on our mood, background or feelings.
