I'm learning abt a new trope that I just discovered the other day and it's soooooo fun and i am loving it a lot.

It's especially fun bc so much of it is like. "This is based on a TV show but honestly it's been mutated so much that you can do anything you want really." which means that the stupid parts that I don't like I can throw out or replace w something else and the parts that I really like I can fiddle with to make even cooler.

The thing is, because the information about this trope is so decentralized, and the 3 fics I read sort of all learned from each other and built off each other, what I know of the trope is actually VERY different from what it seems the trope actually is, so I'm at a little bit of an impasse in terms of figuring out what I should base my specific HCs for it around.

This is gonna be fun I think!!!! I'll have to start a document about it to keep track :D I love research dude GOD

You know, when 60's Doctor Who does non-humanoid aliens, e.g. the bee and insect people in the Web Planet arc, it looks goofy as all hell, but it's because they were making a genuine effort to create actually alien aliens on a budget of utter bullshit, when it would have been so much easier to just always do what sixties sci-fi so often did and make all of the aliens just... humans in fruity outfits. They could have done that, but they said, no, these people are in space and they are going to meet people who look like they are from space, and those people are going to be complex and intelligent and sympathetic characters despite not remotely resembling or behaving like humans. So bless 60's Doctor Who for the awkward flaily madness of people hopping around in fabric bug costumes.
