hi! wanted to ask is there an official term for calico tabby? like torbie is tortie tabby? because thus far I've heard several different ones (caliby, torbico, tabbico etc).
Uh. I think neither of these are "official", as far as i'm concerned, including calico and torbie. The breed standards (also me in the tournament) are calling these patterns "tortoiseshell with white" (or tortoiseshell bicolor/harlequin/van), "tortoiseshell tabby", "tortoiseshell tabby with white". I think one organisation calls tortie tabbies "patched tabbies", which i personally strongly dislike.
I know these terms are a lot longer, but at least they are clear and straightforward, and nobody is confused by them (i hope). Of course, you can still use the "unofficial" expressions in your submissions and propaganda.

Kayla & Falcon live in a barn. Falcon has lived there his whole life whereas Kayla moved in after meeting him one day while she was roaming. A kittypet friend told her what would happen to her kits if she stayed with her housefolk so she fled until she found Falcon and began living with him. They hunt in the barn and around the farm and take in lost, sick, or injured cats to nurse back to health. They are known for being skilled with the herbs the farm owners grow in their garden.
Ash & Bubble and Mantis, Bumblebee, & Cricket live under a dilapidated bridge just outside of Feather Court territory. While unplanned, Bubble, Butterfly, and Bumblebee all had their kits in the same moon, so Feather Court allow Ash and Smoky to hunt in their territory during newleaf and greenleaf. They don’t hunt there much so as not to overstep and generally hunt in some meadows and a copse of trees near their home. Their den is sheltered by fallen stones, a log, and some old construction materials disposed of there.
Amber lives in an abandoned truck in a lot near Kayla and Falcon’s farm. She visits often, sharing tongues and hunting with them. They’re all great friends. Amber hunts in her lot and on the farm most often, though occasionally branches off elsewhere. She uses the pelts of animals she’s hunted, Twoleg cloths, and soft plants to make a nest. Because of the angle of the truck, she also uses Twoleg blankets to fill the bottom corner of the trailer so that she can walk.
Courtney and Brittany roam around, stopping in many places. Brittany scouts for places that are easy to get into such as hollows in rock faces, clearings with thick treetops sheltering them from the rain, and Twoleg gardens. Most recently, they have been staying with Kayla and Falcon in the barn. Brittany helps hunt while Courtney helps Kayla with the kits. They have been asked to stay as Kayla and Falcon enjoy their company and they’re good at what they do.
Cook is a rude, entitled kittypet who lives in the farmhouse on the farm with the barn. He never goes outside and is generally unpleasant and nasty.
Garnet lives in a cave in the rock face near Trick Court’s territory. They are often called upon to help settle disputes between the Courts as they have a unique perspective. Because of this, they are allowed to hunt where they please, although they prefer not to hunt in Court territory if they can help it. They attend Gatherings and sit with the medicine cats so that they can help with any disagreements. They know all the tunnels, cracks, crevasses, and ledges of the rocks and cliffs they live on and they can read the skies and predict the weather.

you are an honest to god angel. for taking so much time and energy and potentially money away from yourself for feral cats.. I'm seriously close to tears. thank you so much for being who you are and for caring like you do. ive only just come across you, but you inspire me. please continue to be the tightest fucking person. I hope you never stop being you. thank you so so much. may you be blessed with the fortunes you so graciously hand out. 💖
Wow, thank you so much for that! 💜 I just do whatever feels right, I’ve always had a penchant for helping little critters, even if I don’t keep them as pets. Animals who need a little help always seem to gravitate towards me, whether it’s cats, dogs, birds, lizards, turtles... I can’t help myself, I always have to make sure they’re alright.
I’ve been a cat person specifically for as long as I can remember, and cats are the one that I have the most reference books on.
My Mom ordered some new cat combs and brushes online that are better suited for their fur type and will be able to pick the bugs out of them easier, but they won’t be here for a couple of days. In the meantime, I keep checking on them periodically, and they seem to have moved in on our porch, and have been here since Sunday.
Mama Cat seems to not mind us being close to the babies, so she seems to trust that we won’t hurt them.
They’re all really adorable. There’s two calicos, a harlequin marked one (that matches the same patterns as his mother) and a patched tabby, and they all have different eye colors.
We’d bring them indoors, but my cat (a 16 year old torbie I’ve had since she was 6 weeks old) has a sensitive respiratory system and is remarkably allergic to dense furred cats (it’s the dander), as well as she absolutely hates nearly all other lifeforms in existence (except people and our dog specifically).
Thankfully, the weather is good here right now, and we already had sheltered zones for cats around here, so this is a perfect place for a mama cat with a litter to stick around for a place to rest, eat and get a drink. The local colony is a very sweet bunch of cats to begin with, with the likes of Mr. Maurice (an old patched red tabby with a squint and a stub tail, he’s the old guy that is great with kittens), Clarence (a lean red tabby who never fails to greet us when we step out the door)... we just have a lovely bunch that don’t cause problems and always show up at feeding times, and may pop up around the yard during the day at random times.
I post about them from time to time, they’re always fantastic, and have been such a joy to have around. They’ve all been really accepting of Mama Cat and the babies, with no quarrels or hissing, so we must have given them all a safe environment where they don’t feel the need to fight for the food.
I’ll be probably adding more pictures over time. As long as this little family of five sticks around, we can keep an eye on them.

Note
Can these three have the same parents? 1- blue mink tom with no withe spotting, 2- blue classic tabby tom with 40% white (tuxedo), 3- shaded silver classic torbie she-cat with 60% white (mask and mantle). I'm not sure about the mother, but for the father I was thinking of solid black (classic tabby) with 70% white (harlequin). Do I need to change the father? Or maybe one of the kits? Thank you in advance!
This is doable, but there are a lot of genes that need to be carried. I think even the father you have is fine, as long as he carries dilute and either seal or sepia.
The mother has to at least carry dilute, and given that two of the kits are dilute, I suggest you make her blue herself. She also has to be a shaded silver classic tabby. She also needs to at least carry either seal or sepia (whichever the tom isn’t carrying), but she could also be seal or sepia if you want. She should have between 0-60% white spotting.

Angelica
Angelica…Angelica, a delicate torbie point, quite simply is an artist’s and celestial masterpiece. Only an artist could have created such and unusual, exotic beauty. Similar to a harlequin she has one ear rich chocolate seal point in color and the other ear a sun kissed orange flame point in color. To further enhance Angelica’s astonishing exotic looks she has the most beautiful topaz blue eyes. She is a kaleidoscope of colors set on her thick lush white fur palette. Angelica has the most endearing splattering of color around her flame point eye and gently scattered on her face as if the artist used his brush in an abstract Picasso fashion. Your knees will grow weak when you feel how soft and luxurious her fur feels to your touch. Angelica loves to play and can pounce with the grace of a ballerina and the accuracy of an arrow. Angelica loves to snuggle beside you in her multicolored ball of fur while her alluring purr filters her love though the air. To adopt and appreciate the artist’s creation of Angelica please submit an application by following the link below. For more slices from heaven check out her sister Halo and brother Angelo too.

How I Tag Color
[don/t reb/log]
I’m putting this up half for personal reference, half for an explanation of my thought process when deciding what color to tag and the factors that influence the language I use.
Solid/Self cats are pretty straight forward, I’ll tag them with the color they are. Usually this will be Black or Blue (Gray) unless they’re a purebred, although it’s not impossible to see less common colors in moggies. If they only have a very minuscule amount of white, such as a tiny locket on their chest, I’ll still tag them as just their predominant color for simplicity’s sake.
Cream/Red cats will all present as tabby, despite whether they’re genetically tabby or not. On some of these cats the tabby markings will be less noticeable, due to lower contrast and saturation, while on other’s they markings will be very stark and transparent. Instead of trying to figure out what type of tabby each is I’ll just tag them as “cream/red [type] tabby” only if it’s very obvious what kind of tabby, and I’ll just tag them as “cream/red” is the markings are more obscure and difficult to distinguish.
Tabby cats will be tagged with the type of tabby, except “Broken Mackerel” which I have difficulty distinguishing visually and will just be tagged alongside regular “Mackerel.”
With White they’re a wide variety of ways cats can display white spotting, I’ve narrowed it down to a few broad labels for easy tagging.
Mitted - The lowest amount I’ll tag, all four paws are white with possible small amounts elsewhere such as a locket on the chest.
Tuxedo - Most-All paws are white, as well as the entire belly and chest, possible tail tip or face as well.
Bicolor - Somewhere in the 40% - 60% range of white, fits smack dab in the “medium/moderate white spotting” category.
Harlequin - High white spotting, clearly 60% white or greater. includes the “Mask and Mantle” and “Cap and Saddle” patterns of white.
Van - Almost completely white, some spots of color on the head and tail.
Tabby With White if a cat has white spotting and is also tabby I’ll just tag them “[color] tabby [white]” instead of trying to determine what type of tabby. Although it may be easier to distinguish the type of tabby in cats with low white spotting (ex. tuxedo) it’ll be difficult in cats with high white spotting (ex. van), so all of them will be tagged with the non-specific “tabby” label both for the same of simplicity and consistency.
Tortoiseshell is the label I’ll use for the classic “black and red” tortoiseshell, and I’ll use the tag “Dilute Tortoiseshell” for it’s counterpart the dilute “blue and cream” version. Other varieties will be tagged as “[Color] Tortoiseshell.”
Torbies If the cat is a Tortoiseshell Tabby, or “Torbie,” I’ll tag them as “[+/- Color] Tortoiseshell Tabby,” using the non-specific Tabby label similar to “Tabby with White” cats. In Torbies it may be difficult to distinguish the type of tabby depending on the amount of brindling and placement of splotches, so it’s simpler and easier to just say “Tabby” than try to determine the type.
Calicos I won’t be using the label “calico,” instead I’ll specify the “type” of white using the self-imposed restrictions discussed above under “with white.” Tortoiseshells and Tortie Tabbies with White will be tagged as “Tortie” or “Torbie” instead of “Tortoiseshell” or “Tortoiseshell Tabby” like their non-white counterparts so that the tag doesn’t get too long.
Colorpoints will use the same criteria noted above, except tabby point’s will be tagged simply as “[Color] Lynx Point” instead of a specific tabby type. Self/Solid Colorpoints will be tagged as “[Color] Colorpoint,” the exception being “Seal,” which will stand in for Black, and “Flame,” which will stand in for Red (Orange) because those alternatives are so popularly used/known. “Mink Points” and “Sepia Points” will be tagged appropriately.
Breed Specific colors will be used for specific breeds, such as “Black Roan” in Lykoi or “Sepia Agouti” in Singapura. Moggies and cats of other breeds won’t be tagged with breed specific colors.
