Hello!

I've created a new primary blog for myself so that I can reply to and follow fellow fans as Tossawary. I'm Tossawary on AO3, where I write fanfiction for SVSSS, and I post writing updates, as well as random SVSSS-related meta, fic ideas, jokes, and art to @tossawary.

I'm also Tossawary on Twitter, but I'm not really active there except for posting fic chapter updates and retweeting the occasional piece of art, so it's not a reliable way to contact me.

A while back, I created @nestofgreeneggs so that I could reblog fun art and such to share, and I think I'm going to keep that side-blog around as my main art and illustration space. I'm not sure what I'm going to use this blog for yet, but I think I'm leaning towards longer meta posts, general fandom thoughts, and sillier text posts.

I don't know what the ask box policy for this blog will be yet or if I will post an FAQ of sorts about myself. I'm still figuring things out!

Ohhh random gush post cuz I can’t seem to focus on my essay after reading the latest chapter which filled me with SO MUCH DELIGHT. I just gotta let these words out cuz they’ve been festering in my brain for a bit.

SVSSS and Moshang fans are probably familiar with this name, but for anybody who doesn’t know (cuz ley’s be honest I don’t have a lot of followers and this is probably gonna get buried under a bunch of other Tumblr posts), Tossawary is a pretty active SVSSS author. I love them so much. Like, they post on Tumblr pretty regularly, draws art, AND writes amazing fics. I feel like the SVSSS fandom struck a goldmine with them.*

More under the cut cuz this got a bit long? And there may be some spoilers to their fics. 

The thing I love the most is how they always seem to complete their fics? And this gives me SUCH a sense of security? Because I HATE feeling the pain of seeing a discontinued WIP so much, but with their stories I get to enjoy the joy/agony of waiting for new chapter updates without having to worry about whether or not it will actually finish.

(And this is no hate to authors who DO have unfinished WIPs, okay. Even if they’re unfinished, I’m honestly glad it was put out in the world for readers to enjoy. Please don’t see this post as a bash, because you’re great too.)

They also write one of my most favorite versions of Shang Qinghua and Mobei-jun? (And Moshang in general.) Like, they perfectly capture the mess and hilarity of the ship, the REALLY BAD miscommunications and weird history together. They write meta posts and fic ideas about Mobei-jun’s family history and thought process, and how he would come to fall for a weird guy like Shang Qinghua. 

BUT THAT’S NOT ALL! Because they also create lovely OC’s (Luo Jiahui and Peng Hongpeng, I’m staring directly at you). Like, they add to the stories perfectly, they’re properly fleshed out, and their relationships with Shang Qinghua are wonderful. 

The relationships--romantic or platonic--in general are great. THEY GOT ME TO LIKE A SHIP I WASN’T ORIGINALLY EVEN INTO (cough shang qinghua x yue qingyuan). They gave me a lovely familial dynamic between Shang Qinghua and Luo Binghe!** THEY LET LBH’S MOM SURVIVE, AND HAD SVSSS!LBH MEET HER!***  

And as someone who’s a sucker for worldbuilding, Tossawary fleshes out the history and setting of the SVSSS/PIDW world beautifully. I have a thing about reading the day-to-day tasks and stories of life on Cang Qiong Mountain, and how the world works outside of that. Like, yes please, tell me more about what the Peak Lords talk about in their meetings. I actually do really want to know about the kind of requests/documents/dealings Shang Qinghua has to deal with.

Anyways some of my favorite fics:

Nothing to Me, Nothing to You-- A SVSSS and MDZS fusion featuring Cloud Recesses Shang Qinghua and Yue Qingyuan, and Wen!Mobei-jun. It features a lovely friendship between YQY and SQH, and Moshang slowly getting closer and acting like dumb teens. 

Stepping Up- Currently on chapter three, and inspired me to write this post in the first place. IT’S AN DING LBH GETTING (kinda) ADOPTED BY SQH! AND DISAPPROVING OF MBJ! Just watching his protective mode go on sqh is a delight, they deserve to be in cahoots. THEY DESERVE TO BOTH BE CARED FOR. 

the ability to remain sober and gracious- I’m a qijiu simp okay. Even if this fic isn’t romantic, I still love how the argument turned out. And how that argument even started hehe. 

Catch a Falling Star- It’s a Stardust/SVSSS fusion. SY is the star, and he’s going on a road trip with lqg and lbh. Need I say more? 

love to the ones i’ve never met- This fic’s synopsis BROKE MY BRAIN FOR A BIT. I WENT FERAL WHEN LJH AND SVSSS!LBH MET! WHEN LBH GOT TO SEE THE PINTWILF UNIVERSE! I’VE WANTED THIS SO FOR MUCH. HE DESERVES TO HAVE A FAMILY AND GET MOTHERED AGAIN. 

Anyways if you haven’t read their fics please do. Tossawary if you ever read this post just know your hard work is appreciated and very much loved. 

*Also not to say I don’t appreciate other svsss/moshang authors, because I DO. The fandom is full of amazing talented people, and I delight in all their creations. 

**I have very strong VERY SPECIFIC FEELINGS about LBH having close platonic relationships. That boy needs friends and family, he’s suffered enough in canon!

16. How many fic ideas are you nurturing right now? Share one of them?

Hmm. So I'm assuming you're talking about fic ideas that I'm currently actively rotating in my mind, instead of just, like, every fic idea I've ever wanted to expand (this number is countable but man am I not willing to count it).

We've currently got at least three that are in regular rotation, but for the sake of talking about something that I haven't talked about on this blog before, we'll go with a rarer one.

It's another transmigrator story where a canon fodder bastard prince, after being shipped out to fuck-knows-where, decides he is DONE with this shit and opts out of the cutthroat succession fight of his siblings by convincing/contracting some people to act as his family so he can pretend he is a Normal Commoner Man, who, like all Normal Commoner Men, has zero ties to royalty.

Nobody believes this, but, you know. Plausible deniability + one less competitor to the throne, so whatever. The goal is found family (literally) and identity shenanigans. You know, if I ever write this.

Ahaha man, this is hard. Okay, so at the moment, it's probably Tossawary, Misfit_McCoward, and nirejseki. I get very excited when I see updates from any of these.

Project Updates:

Hello, the void!

Just a quick update on where I'm at:

I'm currently in the middle of recording and editing the last third of [Podfic] hey, share the weight a little.

It's slow going for a few reasons. 1.) SQH's voice, while it is incredibly fun to perform, is also pretty hard on my voice. I need to take more breaks between recordings. We endeavor to be kind to our vocal chords! 2.) My calendar this (and last) month has been upsettingly full. Let's not even talk about how busy the holidays were. Where did my time go? Why won't people let me hermit myself away in my house to read stories out loud to like... ten people on the internet? Life is too cruel! 3.) Cats. But we plan for those interruptions at this point. 4.) I've had a recent and unexpected death in the family (like last weekend recent), so that's been hard. Lotta phone calls and texts. I have a big family and we're all pretty close. It's hard to record a mostly lighthearted story when you're grieving.

So, I'm actually a bit behind in my personal schedule at this point. I'm trying to post a chapter a week, and I think I can keep that up? I hope! I'll try my best.

Next projects are up in the air right now, but I have a few maybes on my listy list:

Tossawary's Sit With Your Soul - so precious and perfect and bittersweet. I'm really excited to read the next part in the series if/when Tossawary publishes it.

Where Nothing Green Grows by Asymptotical - it's short, it's adorable, there's blanket permission... (which I'm still kinda weird about but... well, we'll see.)

4,000 Post Round Up!

I'm very behind on tag management on my side blogs, but I'm working to catch up. I did a grab of the tags on this blog around 4k posts, and I used that to fix (a lot of) mistakes, update the tag lists, etc. The blog is at almost 4,250 now, so you can see I'm lagging, but oh well.

For those that are new, I try to do a round up post every thousand new posts, mostly cause I like playing with statistics and going through the tags helps me catch and correct any errors I made when I did my initial queuing/reblogging.

Other things!

1. It took about 5 months to get from 3k works to 4k works, which is...slow...but is partially because my health issues meaning I wasn't looking for as much older stuff. I'm trying to do better now.

2. Last time, this blog at 620 followers; now it has 920 followers. Gosh, the MXTX fandoms are growing so much, so fast!

3. Always feel free to poke at my pinned post, which has a list of character tags, ships, etc. It also lists triggers and such, so you can blacklist with the specific language I use (it's uniform across all my art side blogs). Always feel free to let me know if you need anything specific tagged, and I'll do my best!

4. Lastly, artists should always feel free to DM me your work, or you can @ me - I recommend doing so on my personal blog, @unforth, because Tumblr often doesn't show me pings to the side blogs.

Plz let Airplane be awesome- Fic Rec

So I have a hankering for our favorite disaster of an author plz and thx. I went searching, daydreaming, and sometimes down right spelunking for some of that good Airplane Shooting Towards the Sky character fics. Did I also find some good tasty Moshang on the journey? Yes and it was good.

So, here is a place for all the treasure I managed to collect. Hope You all enjoy!~

A Well Wherein Serpents Are Coiled by Nighthaunting - I am poison / And you will drink me / And you should be so lucky

Shang Qinghua transmigrates into his own terrible novel as a baby. The fact that this seems to be a world based on his first draft, where things actually happened and the plot did matter, is less than comforting. Having a second chance is nice, but ending up as cannon fodder and dying offscreen are the last things he wants to do. The only way to avoid his 'canonical' fate is to do as the System demands and try to fix his mistakes from within the world he created. Somehow this ends up with a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed Luo Binghe as an An Ding Peak disciple, because writing about a kid being miserable and seeing a kid being miserable are apparently two entirely different skillsets.

The best, my heart will not move on, I am sinking with this story, it has consumed me and all I can say is ‘thank you, but can I go even deeper?’ like... it has the best world building I have ever seen for any SVSS fanfic, it is canon in my mind and I just end up loving An Ding Peak even more? like wow, I did not know that was possible. Read the fic and the only regret you will have is that you have reached the last updated chapter so soon.

pride is not the word I'm looking for by Tossawary - A Pre-Canon Canon Divergence fic. Shang Qinghua goes to take a self-indulgent peek at his baby protagonist son and gets a kick to the shrivelled heart for his troubles. Ahhh~! He gave up on changing canon or preventing character deaths years ago! What is he doing, helping his protagonist son's adoptive mother like this?

This story, this story, was one of the two to make me so damn hungry for all the Airplane!Shang Qinghua goodness. It leaves me wanting for more. (Also, give Airplane more family bonds and friendship, make our favorite little disaster feel things.)

All the characters supposed to be humans are demons in this world! And all the characters supposed to be demons are...?Moshang's first meeting in a Role Reversal AU.

Look, if I mention their first one, of course I have to mention the amazing Role Reversal au; I can’t not miss this beautiful piece of Demon!Airplane awkwardness of being hot for the icy cultivator who could easily gut him in a second. it is so good, I love.

This series, by all good fiction is so damn great! I live for this disaster friendship of Shen Jiu and Airplane (and only shit, I shouldn’t laugh, but cockblocking Shen Jiu is not something I expected, but Gives me a mighty need, even if he made it his mission for Moshang to never happen.)

Ow, oww, owwww owwwwwww ouch! be prepared to have your heart pickled before your eyes, before it is roasted over an open fire and then promptly eaten before you. and with the left over crumbs of it left over, still find no, you have not had enough, you need to make sure your tear ducts are still existing after all... Just, make sure you mind the tags with this story, because it gets dark, bits of fluff seen here and there to at least trick you into thinking there is still a light hanging around. it is a lot to take in, but oh man are the emotions delicious even as I have to take breaks from this story because of all the feeling I have to face.

MXTX Remix 2024 fics have been revealed! I wrote about Shen Yuan and Luo Binghe getting to know each other and learning to live together in a No System AU, as a prequel to a cool ghostly Bingqiu fic called "sweet as honey" (linked in the Author's Notes). Enjoy! ❤️

Summary:

Shen Yuan wakes up as Shen Qingqiu without having read Proud Immortal Demon Way and without a Transmigration System to guide him. He has no goals, no tasks, and no quests. He and Luo Binghe manage to find each other anyway, as master and apprentice, and teach each other to find joy in this strange world.

I am delighted that you've gotten into SVSSS and will probably be sending a very long list of recs soon, but if there's one fic in this fandom you should read I think it's "pride is not the word I'm looking for" by Tossawary. It's a pre-canon canon divergence fic where SQH saves LBH's adoptive mom gets adopted into the family. There's lots of exploring the existential crisis of being a writer living in the world you wrote, and reading through the filter of SQH's inner narrative is hilarious. 1/2

There’s also lots of worldbuilding at the ‘mundane’/everyday level (my favorite bit is how sex-pollen-cure farming is a respected livelihood) which makes sense considering SQH’s job. I just really love the mix of hilarious and heartwarming and mom-un-fridging and real-feeling people & places, and you just really should read it. It updates most Wednesdays, & the author has a tumblr where they post schedule updates (and cool animated System icons, too), and I just need more people to read it. 2/2

The longer I’m in this fandom, the more I appreciate Shang Qinghua as a character. What a good character.

8. Favourite fic from another author?

ough, this is a tough one. When I was twelve or so, I read a lot of great fics on DA that I cannot find again and it tears me apart because they affected me so much. I do remember going through liyuconberma's entire gallery, though.

The first fic on ao3 that comes to mind is "Pride is Not the Word I'm Looking For" by Tossawary. It's for Scum Villain, not Sonic, but I kept up with it for the entire course of its updates and it's really stinking good, so it holds a special place in my heart for that <3

Happy March, everyone! It took me a while to make this post because I don't really have a lot of news to share at the moment.

I've paused my for-fun reread of SVSSS (stopped at the beginning of the Airplane Extras) because I have to work on my MXTX Remix fic now. That will be finished by the end of the month and up in early April. I have a few one shots on back burners, as always, but I'm not actively planning to post any of them this month.

The most exciting news is possibly that I now have digital copies of the SVSSS books (English translation) so that I can reference them wheneeeeever I want. I'm hoping that this will improve my writing workflow for a lot of my fics! I often like to write with my notes document up side-by-side with my writing document, and this is going to make making notes documents sooooo much easier. I can just copy-paste the quotes I need now! I'm unstoppable.

I think I've really been needing this for "Sit With Your Soul", my SY & SJ Daemon AU, which I have been chipping away at very slowly for way too long now. I really needed an easier way to reference canon for that, so that I can use it as a stable launch point and do some sick flips and all that jazz.

I'm going to be off-work and busy for a week soon, so I may post more or post less during that time frame. I'm thinking about bringing MDZS with me for a reread (it has been a LONG time) now that I have physical copies of all of the books. It's tempting to bring TGCF instead to finally read the whole thing properly, but that's a LOT of volumes to carry around (CANNOT take both, not about to buy digital copies yet) and there's something appealing about tackling these stories in their proper order.

I can't say when the truth serum fic will be done, because right now I just have around 4k of half outline and half rough fic that's constantly switching tenses by accident. I'm trying to blast forward and figure out all of the points of conflict I want to bring up as story beats and hit over the course of an excruciating confrontation between the characters, before going back to rewrite and clean up the whole thing.

I will say that it does have some of the most cathartic, interesting, and second-hand embarrassing character interactions that I've written for a while, I think. It's very fun. After writing and reading various fics across all sorts of fandoms where secrets are on a slow burn revelations path, if they ever come out at all, it's fun to take a more explosive approach. I recommend it, honestly, as a writing exercise if nothing else. No build-up! Canon did the build-up! We are lighting every single firework off together RIGHT NOW in a backyard that is NOT big enough for this.
