toto wolff: "it wasn't his [magnussen’s] race. the mercedes was clearly faster than the haas today.”
i’m sorry, is this man seriously insinuating that haas isn’t allowed to fight for positions because the mercedes was faster? also mercedes wasn’t faster in the first lap, was it, toto? since kevin started p8 and got close to overtaking hamilton in p6. it was a racing incident, toto, your man was just as much at fault.
EDIT: @totonator555 has added a bit of context: “what toto said is that the collision was unlucky and he can’t understand it. the race wasn’t kevin’s (i can’t understand why he used this wording tbh it makes no sense but he probably meant corner) and risking a collision wasn’t optimal. so he wasn’t insinuating that kevin can’t race and overtake because he also added that he believes kmag can take such challenges on but he didn’t think risking a collision was optimal.”
it doesn’t change a lot for me since i still think it’s a dodgy thing to say especially followed by the bit with mercedes being faster than haas today, but i wanted to be fair and add the context provided.
So, I'm not really a big Mercedes fan, but since I started watching F1, George immediately caught my attention(with the help of my boyfriend but that doesn't matter right now lmao). It was always clear that he had an immense talent but the most shitty car to drive in F1. But he didn't care, he always gave his best and did everything for the team. He was always so generous, so grateful to even have this opportunity and now that he has this Mercedes seat, I think that he can finally use that talent of his. Yesterday's race proved it. The way he fought against Max and didn't wanna give up his position. That was amazing and certainly something, not all drivers would have had the nerves to do so.
All in all, I'm just so happy for him that he finally gets to show his talent and really use it, like he deserves it. And even as he sat in a Mercedes car that was not so good, he kept on fighting and always scored points.
I believe, that all of this now, it's only the start for George. He has so much potential to become one of the best. And I certainly believe that he will.
Lewis is being a class act. Not getting angry, wiping away the tears quietly with his dad only to come out and congratulate Verstappen and thank his teams despite likely feeling awful inside. And then you have Toto and George and everyone else who cares about him being pissed on his behalf (rightfully so) but doesn't that go to show how Lewis has learned to swallow his anger and disappointment and frustration. That he has learned rather quickly that as a black man if he lost it here today (which again justifiable) the f1 community would have raked him over the coal. So he swallows it down and keeps it to himself and holds his head high and let it all pass him by, all the while knowing if it has been the other way around Verstappen would not have extended him the same courtesy (case in point Jeddah) and no one would have expected it of him, and that breaks my heart more than anything else.
