Ryan's Favourite Tokyo Ghoul Characters (For Now at Least)

Tokyo Ghoul and its sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re are among my favourite manga out there right now, up there with Blue Exorcist and Fullmetal Alchemist. I haven't finished reading :re yet so this list might be subject to change.

I'll try and keep this as spoiler free as I can.

Honourable Mentions:

Seido Takizawa, Ginshi Shirazu, Kuki Urie, Rize Kamashiro, Uta, Kureo Mado, Renji Yomo, Kotaro Amon, Yamori, Kichimura Washuu, Toru Mutsuki and Mr. Yoshimura.

10. Kanae Von Rosewald

The only character on the list to be introduced in :re, Kanae is a ghoul who searches for new flavours, not for him but for Shu Tsukiyama who he serves. While there's a lot being kept under wraps about him in the narrative so far, I like the character enough to put him on the list and hopefully as I continue into :re, I'll learn more about him.

9. Hinami Fueguchi

A young ghoul who loses her parents to ghoul investigators, Hinami possesses powerful abilities despite having little experience. Her role in the first series is minor, with her presence becoming more prominent in :re but she's likeable.

8. Akira Mado

A ghoul investigator who becomes the partner for Kotaro Amon, Akira is another major player in the series narrative and her determination is very admirable. I can't say much about her without providing spoilers but she's definitely one of the more likeable investigators in the series.

7. Eto

One of the executives in Aogiri Tree, Eto is a powerful ghoul who in the first series, doesn't get too involved in conflicts. I can't say much about her without spoiling the narrative but she's an interesting and powerful character.

6. Naki

A member of Aogiri Tree and the leader of the white suit gang, Naki is a powerful but stupid ghoul. He's not a major character but I like his quirks and it seems that he'll have more presence in :re.

5. Noro

A member of Aogiri Tree, a ghoul terrorist organisation, Noro is one of the executives who works under the mysterious one-eyed owl. He's silent and possesses ridiculous strength and regeneration. Its the mystery surrounding him that makes him interesting for me.

4. Touka Kirishima

One of the main characters, she's a strong ghoul who works at the Anteiku café and tries to maintain a low profile. She becomes an ally of Kaneki's in the conflicts against both the CCG and Aogiri Tree. She's one of the strongest female characters in the series and her conflicts are partly what make her an interesting character.

3. Juzo Suzuya

An unorthodox ghoul investigator, Juzo is childish and violent, and he often enjoys killing ghouls. He's a really fun character with a dark background and its how likeable he is which is why he's so high on this list.

2. Ken Kaneki

The series protagonist, Kaneki is a college student who after being attacked by a ghoul, ends up becoming a human/ghoul hybrid. He experiences a lot of character growth and its not only his caring personality but his determination to get stronger that makes him an interesting lead character for me.

1. Shu Tsukiyama

Known as the gourmet, Shu is a sadistic ghoul who is always looking for new flavours and he develops an obsession for Kaneki upon discovering he's a one-eye. A major character in both series, its his personality and weird sense of loyalty that makes me find him so interesting, even though he's the kind of person you'd want to stay well away from.
