#toxic positivity isn't optimism

// Why do you like Ragatha
(Unleash it. Type out the essay.)
// ... the essay warning tag really is going to apply here ^^
ragatha became my favorite character almost instantly the moment she appeared on screen . like i could remember even around the teaser for the show i was pretty fond of her , though i could chalk that up to me liking Any design that is remotely based off raggedy ann
she perfectly fits that oddly specific character type only I love , which is 'grown woman keeps failing no matter how hard she tries and it's marvelous to witness' , like i'm not sure how to explain it too well - she's not really a girlfail or a girlboss in my eyes ... she just . never wins ! and i love that , please keep fucking losing ragatha the amazing digital circus
to break it down , what's apparent in her approximately less than 7 minutes of screentime is that she's a goofy goober who's essentially the voice of reason . she's not emotional like gangle , unreliable like jax and zooble , or out of her mind like kinger . she was essentially the only one who tried to ease pomni into the circus instead of hard-hitting her with the reality as if that won't make her abstract on the spot . it's clear through her interactions with the other characters and how she talks to pomni that she acts like the Pillar of the group , with how compliant she is with caine's adventures and has a comforting presence .
the problem is ... that all of those 'positive' traits are ... Detrimental to her own wellbeing . like i'm sure a part of her positivity is genuine , but her optimism clearly hinges into toxic positivity and her selflessness is taken to the point of people-pleasing and neglecting her own needs . it's clear that she sees her own emotions as a burden that she doesn't want to put on other people .
and . she's dishonest . my girl is dishonest . she often brushes off things as not being as bad as they actually are , she picks her words to cause less conflict as possible , and it doesn't seem like anyone else is aware of her internal turmoil ... even when she's in Literal Pain she still brushes it off as being okay - and she stayed quiet instead of telling pomni that she's upset .
which is ... hilarious . there's just something about nice characters that tell the most lies to me . bonus points if it seems like they're the one who tells the most truths out of the entire group . everything about ragatha is Dishonest .
and it's funny yet again that these Really don't help her at all ! i think it's clear just from promotional material to the pilot that ragatha is meant to be a punching bag . her teaser shows a cleaver Being Thrown At Her , was tripped by jax and Literally Most Of Her Screentime In the Pilot Is Being In Pain , and that's not counting gooseworx's doodles . my girl's fucking Losing .
and it fits her avatar well since she's a Rag Doll ... she's basically never meant to win from the start . she was never the main character .
it interests me so much on how all of these will be taken in the full series since they're all very interesting setups , especially for the setting that the story is set in . i just need to see more of my girl and i wish that a lot of her content isn't limited to ship art . you guys do not understand how desperate i am to see content of ragatha interacting with either caine or zooble . i am Not normal about them .
also i want to kiss her on the mouth //

I just found your blog and I’m absolutely in love with the way you write headcanons! If you don’t mind, could you write some angsty hcs about Jack trying to differentiate himself from who he used to be as Joseph, wanting to be someone new as Jack and trying to reinvent himself? Maybe with an MC that wants to know who he used to be, but Jack keeps insisting that he’s only ever been ‘Jack’?
Tumblr media
Jack absolutely does not see himself as Joseph in any way. As far as he's concerned, Joseph is dead. To him, to the world, that isn't who he is nor will he be. That past part of him buried as deep as he could
He had thirty years locked in that that vhs tape has given Jack plenty of time to perfect his persona as best he can, to be the best man he possibly can be, a better, real Jack
When it comes to the initial asking, Jack will simply introduce himself as such. Sunny Day Jack, that's all there is to him. It's who he is now and who he was meant to be. Not just for his own sake but for yours as well.
Jack holds nothing but ill will for his former self and will absolutely hide anything and everything regarding it from you
Joseph was troubled, or was trouble, it doesn't much matter to Jack but he can't have that kind of toxic influence you, now can he? Joseph coped with unhealthy vices, was rebellious, modified his body for attention- you don't need that sort of negativity in your life.
But fact of the matter is, Jack is Joseph and Joseph is Jack whether he likes it or not and you can see those cracks in the veneer from time to time; where is less of the sugary sunshine and more of the cynic. There's this palpable dichotomy of confidence and self loathing within him
Jack won't call this a phase or facade, this is who he is and when he says this to you- it is spoken as an absolute. It's who he is now, who he wants to be, he has a second chance to do everything right this time and to do right by you-he wouldn't let something so trivial as a ghost of himself ruin that
What will be more difficult is, as time goes on, to whom and how to shift the blame when it comes to body count and violence. Is it Jack? Or is it Joseph? (It's both but blame is so easier to to pin on a name you don't like)
Like I'd stated before, no matter how you press or pry, Jack won't ever give up the gig and will work all the harder to prove to you that he's not hiding anything. And to him, he isn't. Nothing he says is technically a lie because I mean...he did come out of a vhs tape, why wouldn't he take it's former contents as reality
When Jack thinks the convincing is for your benefit, it's really for his own. When he asks for your validation, he needs it as Jack. Proof that what he's doing is right. That killing and retooling himself was the right thing to do. Nobody needed Joseph. Nobody wanted Joseph. But Jack? Oh, he was-and is- adored.
He prides himself on that, this shiney new repackaging of himself. Bright as the sun, beaming with optimism, healthy influence to positively impact your growth. Jack's is a face you can trust, not one with under eye circles and smelling of tobacco.
Really, Jack is a hypocrite. He always ran and changed himself rather than confront his issues but your issues? Your problems? Well...he might be able to forgive you needing his help, but really Jack would sooner view this all as him not wanting you to make the same mistakes he had a lifetime ago. He just wants whats best for you but if that requires his intervention (perhaps without your knowledge) well...why burden you with it? Some things just need to be wordlessly put to bed or buried.
Despite it all, the slips of Joseph through Jack I don't think are ones he really weighs too much. Because when it comes to you, they want the same thing. But with this reinvention where Jack likely equates Joseph to being dead and gone, he's just dormant. They're both pretty dominant and really, it's just two sides of the same coin. They're one and the same but Jack will fight tooth and nail for otherwise.
Because otherwise, what does all of this amount to? What does he amount to? It puts all he's done and how far or short he's come under worse scrutiny. Jack/Joseph is a deeply complex character who is hesitant to let you get too close to knowing him and the many facets, it's for your safety despite that he can, and will, know anything and everything about you by any means necessary.
I might revisit this one too, it felt a lil short-- I hope it's okay OTZ

How do you tell the difference between perfectly reasonable bitch sessions about people processing their problems with others/groups, as opposed to having ended up in a clique? I've been in situations a few times in my life where I ended up in a friend group whose complaining about others made me feel very irritated and/or uncomfortable. But I can't tell whether that's a reasonable reaction or whether my own tendencies towards people-pleasing and toxic positivity.
I don't want to give in to a bad impulse to "play devil's advocate" or anything, but my internal reaction tends to be "well, at the moment I'd rather be with them than you" and start looking for chances to make more distance so I won't be privy to those discussions anymore. But then I worry that distancing myself from people because of unexpressed discomfort isn't the right thing to do either.
To further complicate the matter: I also criticize people behind their backs sometimes! I feel like it can contribute to less charged, more robust relationships with those around me. My tolerance for this in general has gone up a bit over the years, and now someone else is doing it about a person whose flaws I've also seen doesn't bother me nearly as much. I can't tell if that's reasonable, hypocritical, or a secret third thing. I feel like I do it with the intention of ultimately getting to know/deal with them better, but maybe that's just toxic positivity talking again.
TL;DR any tips for how to a) identify constructive vs. destructive talking about people behind their backs when I'm privy to it, and b) respond if it seems like the destructive kind?
I think the search for an over-arching rule of what should be acceptable here is the wrong tactic! Rather than worrying so much about whether what you are doing is okay, or hypocritical, or too devils-advocatey, or too fawning, or what's the optimal level and form of talking about other people to which you should permit in yourself and others.... please just let yourself actually trust how you feel! This is an interpersonal vibe issue and how you feel and what you want matters.
It annoys you to be around people who are super negative and judgmental toward others. You think the judgements this person is making of a third party are needless. Just say that! You don't have to have some grand unified theory of why it's not acceptable for them to speak in this way or some established rule set to justify how you feel. How you feel is the point! These are your relationships and you get to decide how you feel about them!
Here are some statements that are totally acceptable to say in this situation:
"I don't really like hearing you talking so negatively about people."
"Can we talk about something else? This is not interesting to me."
"I don't have any problem with them, let's move on."
"When you talk about other people like this, it makes me wonder how you see me."
"Yeah yeah I get it the picture, you don't like them. Played any good video games lately?"
Or, if they are insistent in continuing to complain about people or talk negatively in ways that you dislike and don't listen when you say it's unpleasant for you, you could just not hang out with this person! This is a very legitimate reason to not like somebody.
I had a partner for a while who would constantly talk shit about other people. I'm a hater in a great many ways so at first I thought it was fine. I'm used to people thinking I'm too analytical and too critical so sometimes being around negative people feels safe and accepting to me! And I love a good bitching sesh -- especially in person discussions about online people who are never gonna be hurt or affected by me privately talking shit with my friends.
But I noticed this person I was seeing constantly would pick apart every one else's flaws, including random people they'd only just met, while also complaining often about how they didn't get enough affection or attention themselves... it frankly disgusted me because they could not see that their shitty attitude toward others was the sole cause of their own isolation. I had to end things because it was so viscerally off-putting. This person was always perfectly nice to me. Very generous, affectionate, complimentary, and attentive. It didn't matter because I didn't like how they spoke about others and how much time they devoted to being petty. It was a huge turn off and it can be a massive friendship deal-breaker too. If you don't like it, you don't like it! that's enough.

Amane T1 Cover - Positive Parade
Been a while, but we're back to covers! Time for the specialest girl ever, Amane and Positive Parade! I miss her sounding as happy as she does in this song, man. At least she seemed to be having fun in parts of Purge March too, but that was a different kinda fun. Anyways, let's go!
CW Cults and indoctrination, child abuse
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Positive Parade is possibly the one covered song in Trial 1 with no explicit references to romance or sex, which in my eyes is a win for Amane, common best character w.
What also makes this song stand out is just how happy it is! It actually is an extremely optimistic and uplifting song, where the singer encourages someone else to follow their dreams and remain positive in the face of adversity.
Stuff your heart full with all your dearest dreams Go for broke on all the things you wanna do! “We can’t stop” Is this a good feeling? Or is it no good after all? On these never-ending nights, let's talk while dancing with the stars Even when times are tough, the light is always by our sides “We can’t stop” You’ll turn out okay! Because you'll find your smile fits you perfectly
(I'm using this translation because the translation in the Milgram wiki has very odd wording at times, so I think it kinda confuses the meaning a bit)
The 'never-ending nights' I believe represent the struggles of life, which at times feel endless. But the singer suggest to talk while 'dancing with the stars', while engaging with the light in the darkness. "Even when times are tough, the light [of the stars] is always by our sides." Optimism! Happiness!
There is the "is this a good feeling? or is it no good after all?" line which seems like it could imply some lurking horror, but there's a few ways to read that. I actually think the singer is asking if the person being sung to is happy with what they're doing, or if they should stop and move on to something else, which is similar to this line:
This isn’t enough, not yet I need to make sure I don’t mess up the words I want to say “I forbid you from pushing yourself too hard" "I’ll be right here” So you won't be discouraged by what comes tomorrow, if we could laugh together again... That's why you gotta stop those "what'll happen if"s!
The singer wants the other to make sure not to push themselves too hard, and reassures them they can rely on the singer.
The important part there is that the singer wants to be relied on. Not in like a dangerous way necessarily, just a "I'm your friend and I want to help you when you're down" kinda way. At least that's the vibe I get.
Heeeey, aren't you straight up bawling your eyes out? It's not normal for you to pretend that everything's fine. Even though you've got things you want to say Where's that sadness you've been shouldering? Come on, one day it'll just overflow "I'm sorry, I can't do it anymore, please help me" You don't want to imagine it, You don't want to hear it, do you? So before it comes to that, rely on me!
You know, I've seen people say that some people think this song is about toxic positivity, but to me it doesn't really look like it. The singer's literally telling the other that if they hide their pain, it's gonna overflow and that's bad. That's, like, the opposite of toxic positivity. And "you" don't want to hear yourself saying "I can't do it anymore, please help me", right? Just rely on the singer now before it gets too bad!
I guess you could say that sounds like a savior complex, which is definitely a way to read the song:
If someone tells you you're wrong, Even when you're not wrong at all I won't support anything that denies you You can take the opportunity to hold me close and you can share the burden of your worries with me You say it's embarrasing, but I'm embarrased too, you know! Don't laugh and say this isn't like me, It's my answer to meeting you. Rely on me, rely on me, please
Yeah, the "rely on me, rely on me, please" certainly feels a bit too desperate.
However, I still feel it can be read more charitably. Listen, this song was written as a theme song for a collaboration with a theme park named Yomiuri Land (Source, it's in Japanese but Google translate gives you the idea). There doesn't need to be a hidden horror here. While again, it's perfectly fine if you read it as a savior complex or something else, I personally see it as completely innocent positivity.
The line about both of them being embarrased by what's going on is very sweet. No big meaning there, I just like it.
So the singer either does or doesn't have a savior complex; at least they find quite a bit of happiness in helping others. If you're wondering about Miku shedding a tear in the artwork, it's probably a tear of joy from "dancing with the stars." In my personal opinion, there is no hidden horror in this song, it's just a really nice optimism anthem! The only way this would be horrifying at all is if it were being sung by, like, an abused cult victim or something.
... Oh.
Yeah this is where we acknowledge that, even though the original song may not be hiding anything too horrifying, it's being covered by Amane fucking Momose. And nothing this girl does ever fails to make us sad.
So, Amane here has the same "I want to make other people happy" attitude that we see in Magic.
[Magic] Only if, only if, only if I could be a good girl I hope, I hope everyone can be happy and smile Forever, forever together would be a dream
She's even called something akin to "Happiness Support Sister" in the credits. Amane wants everyone to be happy, that's ultimately her goal in everything she does. The thing is that the concept of "happiness" has been so horrendously twisted by her cult that a lot of the time it shows in a very... uh... concerning way.
Timeline 23/01/17 Amane: Happy birthday.Mahiru-san. How is your body feeling? Mahiru: ……ah, Amane-chan. Thank you. Yeah, I’m fine. Now I can move around if I use a wheelchair…… It’s all thanks to Shidou-san looking after me…… Amane: I’ll give you one warning. The two of you are dabbling in something tabooed. If you continue to go against the way of nature like this, you’ll just bring an early death upon yourself. Think hard about this. Mahiru: Amane-chan……? Are you really Amane-chan……?
Like, technically speaking, Amane is trying to make sure Mahiru stays happy. As in, not dead. She does something similar with Fuuta. Notably, she's only shown herself really hostile towards Shidou, who she dislikes for reasons even beyond the whole medicine thing. Long story.
But since this is Trial 1, she's likely not really speaking to anyone in the prison. So, who is Amane talking to? The most straightforward answer is that she's talking to her abusers, more specifically her mother probably. Because they are the "everyone" she's talking about in Magic; Amane thinks that if she can make them happy, she'll stop being punished and thus she'll be happy too.
Of course, this paints the entire song in a horribly grim light. Because now the singer's pleas to be relied on are Amane asking her abusers what she needs to do to make them happy.
You can take the opportunity to hold me close and you can share the burden of your worries with me You say it's embarrasing, but I'm embarrased too, you know!
The "burden" here may very well be the things Amane does """wrong""", so Amane might be asking what she needs to change.
Question: What do you think happens when "it overflows"? When Amane's abusers are frustrated at something? Not Amane, just anything in general. How do you think that goes? In a lot of cases, chid abusers will find any excuse to """justify""" hurting their child when they're frustrated by literally anything. That means it's very possible Amane now tries to make sure her abusers are happy all the time, because it's the only way she can think of to avoid being hurt.
"I need to make sure I don't mess up the words I want to say" sure reads a lot more sinisterly when "messing up the words" could end up with Amane being seriously hurt.
Tumblr media
Yeah like that.
If someone tells you you're wrong, Even when you're not wrong at all I won't support anything that denies you
And this definitely reads like something she'd say about the cult. She won't support anything that denies the cult or their doctrines, you don't have to worry about that! Please don't hurt her.
The chorus is a bit strange with this reading, since what the "dearest dreams" are is very debatable. It's possible it's just general positivity without referring to anything in particular, but if it is something specific, my best guess would be "following the cult's doctrines and going to [heaven or equivalent]". Apart from that, again, the other stuff is kinda sinister under this reading. "Yeah, focus on the good stuff! Don't worry about the sad things! Please don't get mad! Please please please don't get mad and hurt me!"
But the thing about "chasing the dream" being following the cult's beliefs makes the "we can't stop" line really mortifying. Originally that's just "we shouldn't let our doubts stop us in our dreams!" but now it's "we can't stop following the doctrines because horrible horribe things will happen if we do!"
[The Purge March] If you become a bad girl, monsters will come out This is the magic that stops that from happening
And wanna know a """fun""" little detail? I haven't been paying much attention to differences between the og songs and the covers, but Amane gets special treatment.
I invite you to listen to the "we can't stop" line from around 2:18 - 2:19 minutes into the song both in the original and in Amane's cover. In the Miku version, that's sung pretty much the same as every other time. However, in the Amane cover, it's sung in a noticeably different way. It's hard to describe, because it sounds a mix of exhausted, resigned, depressed, something like that. Think of it like this: if the rest of the song sounds like Amane is singing with her Trial 1 sprite, this one line is sung like her Trial 2 sprite. So:
Stuff your heart full with all your dearest dreams! Go for broke on all the things you wanna do! “We can’t stop” Is this a good feeling? Or is it no good after all?
Or translated for Amane:
"Follow your dreams of being a great follower and going to heaven!"
"Do all the things God tells you you should want to do!"
"We can't stop, can we? Even if it hurts, even if we are unhappy, we have to keep following that dream. Because horrible things will happen if we don't. And even if we try to change, then what was it all for? What did you hurt me for? There has to be a reason. Please tell me my suffering isn't meaningless. God will save us in the end if we keep doing this, right? That's the only thing I have left to hope for. We can't stop"
"Ehem- Doesn't it feel good?"
Or maybe I just like Amane angst a bit too much.
Anyways, that's the main takeaway from Positive Parade in my opinion. There is another way to read it, though, which I think is equally interesting. Mainly, that she might be singing it to herself, right before killing her mother. The "dreams" would be killing the mom, with the one more sinister "we can't stop" being there because it's a somewhat sinister dream. The "light in the dark" is a future without abuse I guess? The whole "rely on me" thing does come off as a bit weird, unless you go the "council of Amane" route and/or read it with the idea Amane has DID and then it just sounds like an alter, which would be something. "I won't support anything that denies you" and her mom did deny her... the issue there is that Amane also denies herself a lot of "vulgar" pleasures because Gozake ordainment. I don't think it works perfectly because of things like "I forbid you from pushing yourself too hard", but it's still a valid way to read the cover!
Anyways, hope you're not crying too hard! Take care!

Been playing a little bit of Guild Wars 2 with the girlfriend (husband joining us shortly as well).
To no one's surprise I am playing a necromancer.
I have a few thoughts about the game but also feel like I haven't seen that much of it yet despite already being level 50. Still haven't done any dungeons or anything.
You level up truly insanely fast in this for some reason. One time I even went from level 41 to 45 all in one single XP drop and I still don't even know what I did to get that.
Some positives:
1- You don't actually have that many buttons to press. In some other MMOs like this (FFXIV being the one I played most recently) you have a whole lot of cooldowns, three-part combos, mobility skills, and just stuff you're supposed to press in a specific order in order to contribute optimally. Here it's pretty simplified to just 10 buttons, half of which come from your equipped weapons and the rest having limited predefined roles.
Consequently, the buttons you do press end up feeling a lot more substantial and distinct. There isn't really an action I have seen so far that feels like strictly filler.
2- You get to make some choices about your character's backstory and motivation during character creation, and these choices seem to come up in quests as well. This is not entirely unusual in single-player RPGs but the other MMOs I have played tend to avoid that sort of thing entirely. Another rare thing is that some of the story quests also have some branching paths.
3- I really like that it's not a subscription-based game, and even seems to have a very solid free to play version. I still think the lack of a mount during that is rather evil but still way better than subscriptions.
4- You seem to have a decent amount of options for customizing your playstyle, with multiple talent lines to pursue, different weapon types giving you very different skills rather than just having different stats, and eventually also things like specializations.
This is especially nice relative to FFXIV's complete lack of anything remotely similar, with all characters of a class always having all of the abilities for said class (as long as they did their quests). According to a friend the logic there was that people would become toxic over other players having sub-optimal builds and mandating them to use only the most effective skills, which is 100% something that happens but this is still a trade-off I don't really like.
5- I like how a few of the zones are in active war, with NPC armies invading towns and attempting to capture them while players gather together to defend them.
6- My flesh golem turns into a fucked up zombie shark when I go underwater.
The negatives:
1- The game's presentation and world so far seem pretty much just "okay" in my opinion. It's not generic (haven't even seen an elf or anything yet), but it's also not particularly inspiring to me so far. Maybe when we get to see those elder dragons things are going to pick up? Zhaitan definitely looks like an awesome villain for a game to have but simply hasn't arrived yet.
2- Similarly, a lot of the zones are large enough and include so many different sub-zones that so far they haven't quite managed to have the most coherent central identity the way zones in games like WoW or OSRS do. This isn't all that bad but still affects the way I think about them. Maybe this also gets better once I get further away from the "green hills and forests"-type starting areas (although I feel like I have seen like three or four areas with that aesthetic already).
3- The materials gathering for crafting seems to be somewhat unbalanced. You level up so fast and get sent to new zones so quickly that you soon begin stockpiling crafting materials that you don't have the skill to use because the first tier of them seems to last all the way to maybe rank 75? It's as if the game used to have a slower pace that was more in line with that but now you just zoom past the stage where you're collecting tier 1 materials before you gather enough to move up to start using tier 2 materials.
That would also explain why I haven't crafted anything worth using so far. I'm getting significantly better stuff just from questing as I level.

hi jen, hope you're well (: today has been one of those days where it's been really hard to feel happy for other people's successes. usually it feels incredible to celebrate the writing community's wins, but i guess not everyday can be so positive. why is writing not a competition? i get logically why it's not, but sometimes it really feels like that (finite # of agents, budgets, time etc), and it's such a scary, poisonous feeling. makes me feel super left behind. anyway, thank you <3
I'm sorry you were having a crappy day, and I hope it is better now!
On the subject of competition generally: As you noted, that "competing against others" feeling is a toxic one. And, it's simply untrue. Somebody else's success doesn't affect YOUR ability to achieve success. I don't know how else to say it.
Some agents are highly competitive with colleagues, too. I'm sure I've told this story before, but:
Once an agent at another agency was 'picking my brain' about something, and mentioned in an aghast kind of way how surprised they were that a) I was willing to help them with an open hand, and b) that my agency colleagues are all super supportive to one another. They said, "But other agents are your competition!"
To which I replied, honey, you're not my competition.
Which, apart from being an excellent burn, is also the truth. If I'm competing with anyone, it's myself. The only metric I look at is, am I moving forward, am I doing better this year than last year, the year before, etc. If I'm not, why not, and how do I turn that around? (Hint: It has nothing to do with anything anyone ELSE is doing!)
I don't care if other agents make a lot of money or have a lot of successes. Quite the opposite! I hope they DO! I want LOTS and LOTS of books to succeed -- that will only help MY books succeed. It doesn't impact my money or my success, at all, except in the sense that "a rising tide lifts all boats." A colleague having a huge bestseller means that our whole agency benefits from the boost in reputation and goodwill. A publisher having a huge bestseller means that they can BUY MORE BOOKS. A book becoming a sensation drives more people to the bookstore and boosts interest in other books as well. A friend having a huge bestseller means I can cheer them on! A stranger having a huge bestseller is rad as hell! Good for them! (Uh - as long as they seem cool. I must say, I'm not evolved enough to cheer on jerky people lol).
I feel like this mindset is a healthy one -- for sure it's nicer than being eaten up by jealousy and bitterness. In my experience, people that are eaten up by jealousy tend to have less success overall, and take less joy in the success they do have. People who are supportive of others tend to get more support, as well. Optimism breeds good feelings all around. Etc, etc.
Proof of that? Well... that other person isn't an agent anymore. :-)

1. his music, obviously! he's still evolving as an artist and still tries new things. i don't think he has found "his sound" yet and to be completely honest i don't think he needs to find just one signature sound. i love how he plays with rock, pop, ballads etc. and doesn't stick to one sound. i love that he's experimenting and does what he loves in terms of sound and lyrics. and whatever he does comes out as absolute bangers so!
2. his optimism about life despite what he's been through. he's so hopeful and looks at life and experiences and situations with such a positive way which i admire a lot about him. not like a toxic forced positivity. (that's my most favourite thing about him.)
3. his creativeness? creativity? what's the word? he's not a boring artist.
4. the relationship he has with the fandom. it's a cliche but like, despite what i think the boundaries between an artist and a fandom should be, i think we do really have a strong bond and a "special" relationship. not like he's our friend or any of that weird or personal bullshit, you know what i mean. the fans don't get left out of his work, of things he does as an artist, he likes to get the fans involved. you know what i mean? you can see that in his concerts as well.
5. i love that he wants to help other people in the music industry (to not get fucked over and exploited), especially new and young artists. that's a long conversation here.....anyway.
also. he's really pretty, isn't he? what's not to love?

Canon Logan’s Relations with the akuma class:
This is an updated thing of an old project
Warning: This isn't salt directed at any of the characters. Logan is just too angsty, sassy, salty and b*tchy. He can't stand his classmates most of the time, but, he cares for each one of them... well, Kagami would take a while longer for him to like her, but, it would happen eventually.
Marinette: Oh my gosh, I need Adrien! He is so perfect!
Logan: Girl, you are in Middle School, calm down.
_____________________________________________________
Adrien: I really want to hang out with my friends.
Logan: Then, do it.
Adrien: My father won’t let me.
Logan: Then, disobey.
Adrien: I can’t.
Logan: Why? He is awful and toxic.
Adrien: Cause… he loves me?
Logan: *inner screams*
_____________________________________________________
Alya: I have footage on Spellboy’s possible secret identity.
Logan: *Slaps the phone far away*
Alya: … did you just throw away my phone?
Logan: … no.
_____________________________________________________
Nino: I can’t invite Logan to the party. He is too much of a party pooper.
Logan: You know I am right next to you, right?
_____________________________________________________
Chloe: If you don’t want to suffer, it’s better to obey me!
Logan: Sorry, but this is a democracy, not a monarchy. I have the same amount of rights as you. Have a nice day.
Chloe: …
_____________________________________________________
Logan: Girl, you are smart, beautiful and kind. You deserve better than that brat!
Sabrina: You think I am beautiful?
Logan: That’s not the point.
_____________________________________________________
Juleka: I am invisible. No one sees me…
Logan: Honey, I have been studying in this school for FIVE MONTHS, and no one talks to me. Are you sure you have it worse?
Juleka: …
_____________________________________________________
Rose: A bit of optimism can always save the day!
Logan: Rose, it’s 7 am. Too early for your toxic positivity b*llshit.
_____________________________________________________
Logan: My life is awful…
Ivan: *patting his back* we know, we know.
Logan: No one likes me…
Mylene: *hands him a tissue for his tears*
_____________________________________________________
Kim: Dude, how are you always frowning.
Logan: Maybe, I was born with it, maybe it’s problems with my mental health…
Max: I am 100% sure it is problems with your mental health.
_____________________________________________________
Nathaniel, while drawing: Ah, what are you doing?
Logan, staring attentively at Nathaniel’s sketches: your art is one of the best things I have ever seen.
Nathaniel: … are you being ironic or sincere?
Logan: Do I sound ironic?
Nathaniel: … yeah.
Logan: … I need to learn how to express my emotions better.
_____________________________________________________
Logan: Hey, punk girl! Don’t you look to where you go?
Alix: Sorry, I didn’t notice that, instead of 14-year-old boy that could avoid, there was an elder and bitter man on my way.
Logan: … okay, great sass. You earned my respect.
_____________________________________________________
Luka: *notices that Logan is listening to his song from the door* don’t want to hear my music from closer?
Logan: Oh, so you call that music? I thought an animal was dying here and was checking.
Luka: *smirks* Maybe, you could check it from closer?
Logan: Yeah, but I definitely didn’t like your music.
Luka: Okay.
*Luka is immune to Logan’s sass and tsundere behavior towards people he wants to befriend*
_____________________________________________________
Kagami: Can you please let me pass?
Logan: I was here first, can’t you just turn around?!
Kagami: *Stares into his soul*
Logan: *Stares back*
*2 hours later*
Marinette: How long have they been doing that?
Adrien: *looks at his watch* 2 hours.
_____________________________________________________
Lila: And that’s how I saved Prince Ali’s life.
Logan: Sorry, but, when did I ask you?
*Bonus*
Lila: Spellboy is the worst hero. Ladybug is always talking shit about him.
Logan: I am about to ruin this woman’s whole career.

Thoughts on the value of art with no impact? Like "writting to the void" without expecting any attention to it - is this "valuable" beyond just something "subjective" like the cult of "selfcare" would be satisfied with or can one say that even a work not read by anybody besides the silence of God could still be the greatest? Idk. sorry if this sounds like some college freshman stoner midwit question lol
The value and the impact isn't for you to decide, and is mostly not in your control, so you have to do the work for its own sake. On the other hand, it has never been easier to disseminate art widely in all of human history. Low-follower YouTubers get as many views in a month as Melville sold copies of Moby-Dick in his lifetime. And then after he died, everybody read it. I don't mean to commend "cruel optimism," "toxic positivity," or an all-around "delulu" attitude, but you could always get lucky, so you might as well take your shot at popularity and/or immortality if you really want to make art. An aside from Middlemarch (she's not talking about art per se, but I trust the application is clear):
Who shall tell what may be the effect of writing? If it happens to have been cut in stone, though it lie face down-most for ages on a forsaken beach, or “rest quietly under the drums and tramplings of many conquests,” it may end by letting us into the secret of usurpations and other scandals gossiped about long empires ago:—this world being apparently a huge whispering-gallery. Such conditions are often minutely represented in our petty lifetimes. As the stone which has been kicked by generations of clowns may come by curious little links of effect under the eyes of a scholar, through whose labors it may at last fix the date of invasions and unlock religions, so a bit of ink and paper which has long been an innocent wrapping or stop-gap may at last be laid open under the one pair of eyes which have knowledge enough to turn it into the opening of a catastrophe. To Uriel watching the progress of planetary history from the sun, the one result would be just as much of a coincidence as the other.

I am glad I embraced positive thinking again, but on my own terms. It really does feel like I'm in control of something. Like, I dunno man it just feels so much better not to wallow and self pity. Even on my worst days I'm still doing better then on my best days when I immediately assumed the worst of every situation. Toxic positivity kills, I hope positivity that heals touches you someday. I hope one day optimism to you isn't putting ur head in the dirt and ignoring reality, but facing the storm head on and still coming out gentle.

☕💘👀??
THANK YOUUU... going with my PT s/i this time!
☕️: What are the most common plots of shipping fics between you and your f/o?
prequel fans are just angst fiends. like it never STOPS over there 😭 but i know they'd write a lot of fix-it fics about anakin and i, where things turn out fine... or turn out worse somehow idk how that's possible but i suppose it can be done
💘: Why would people love your ship? Why would people dislike your ship? How might it start debates?
they'd love us because we're both always getting in trouble, but at least we're doing it together!!! and the way we complement each other, both growing into being comfortable with ourselves and our emotions. being the only ones we've ever known to fully listen without judgment, because we don't depend on each other for some higher purpose, or for personal gain. i could go on and on because 🥺 you know?
but okay 😭 this is where it gets potentially dicey because there's already Discourse about The Canon Ship being Toxic and i think it would increase ten-fold with us. because my s/i is NOT as morally upstanding as padme and she's NOT trying to constantly do the right thing (in fact i made them almost complete opposites on purpose. i didn't want my s/i to have any resemblance, and obvi her arc is something personal to me). she's just trying to survive, in any way she knows how, and all of that eventually means doing whatever she can to keep anakin by her side.
but he does the same thing, of course. they're both extremely possessive with each other, which IS GREAT FOR ME, THE BEST ACTUALLY (it's one of the reasons i love him as much as i do), BUT NOT EVERYONE AGREES
👀: How does your ship with your f/o influence both of your characterisations and the world? Would there be any interesting metas written about your dynamic?
most of the meta that could potentially come from us is around this era, after the sequels, not during the initial prequel era. for one, it's actually somewhat acceptable to say *gasp* POSITIVE things about the prequels now. for two, i think my s/i bears some resemblance to rey, most of it unintentional. my s/i is sort of what rey would have become if she lost all hope and optimism and most of her moral compass basically 😭 not to say my s/i is a bad guy, because she isn't. just very worn out from her life on jakku and feels no reason to look out for anyone else, since no one had ever looked out for her
and i think it's interesting to think about how meeting anakin kind of helped my s/i avoid complete despair. their love really did save her, she wanted to be a better person because of him and she tried her best (i think that would resonate with people), whereas... well you know 😔 i'd have to unfortunately admit that the ending, considering my s/i was canon, would have to be the same. we built up so much only for it to fall apart and idek where i want to go with that. it just hurts 🥴

despite the flaws of the trolls franchise and poppy's growing toxic positivity and imperialism particularly in the second film. her line "sure, life isn't all sunshine and rainbows but i like to believe it mostly is!" is such a good example of optimism, or better than i normally see. i think that pessimism has been disguised as realism for quite a while and the idea of "why accept compliments? why think the world will get any better? why think you'll succeed" is so fucking pervasive, especially for teenagers. i like to think things will get better. i like to see that some things suck, but there's good in it, and that the sucky parts aren't the only parts. i like to have hope.

not to sound harsh but those "law of attraction/assumption" blogs are the scariest fucking thing. just denial and toxic positivity masquerading as empowerment and self care. optimism is good, working to improve your life is good, believing generally good things about yourself is good, but plugging your ears and writing creepy ass mantric posts about how everything in the world is already perfect isn't actually helping at all and you're just going to crash when you realize you're not living up to the unrealistic image of perfection and ease, or when something undeniably bad happens and you decide it's your fault because you didn't 💅💖manifest💖💅 hard enough.

Toxic Positivity
During our lowest point, we usually find positive comments or quotes to help us feel motivated and encourage us to keep going. Although, sometimes too much positivity is not a good thing. You're probably thinking how positive comments can be a bad thing? Isn't it great to hear so much positivity? Well, not all the time especially if what you're doing or the people around you stays away from reality.
There's what you call toxic positivity. According to Psychology, toxic positivity define as dismissing negative emotions and acknowledging distress with false optimism rather than empathy. Usually, people who are uncomfortable with negative emotions or people who don't know what to say in serious situations do this. Either may it be intentional or not.
For example, your friend's relative is very ill. He/she is trying to open up to you about how scared and worried they are but it's too hard for you to listen so you reassure them that everything will be okay. Shutting them down when they're trying to share their emotions misrepresents you being approachable or even fake. You can't form a bond to people if you can't sit down and listen to their grief and problems.
Toxic positivity doesn't only affect others but yourself too. Maybe even more. It's quite understandable you don't what to deal any negative emotions. But, if you keep om feeding yourself with false optimism, it can take a toll on your mental health.
Life isn't full of sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes it's bumpy and stormy. Be mindful with your situation and reflect on your emotions. Embrace and acknowledge those negative emotions. Express how you truly feel, don't conceal it. Accepting positive and negative emotions is a way for you to understand true positivity.

Okayyyy I love D+S. I loveee how complex this issue is LOL! I'm definitely leaning / am biased towards aemond but I'm trying to remember that this chapter is in his POV, and he is somewhat of an unreliable narrator. But AAAAAAAAAAA I love Alicent and I love Rhaenyra going after her. Time for luke to go after aemond fr. I'm simultaneously frustrated at the blacks parading as omega rights activists and yet still shitting on aemonds reputation/respectability.
Although I love how unhinged and crazy aemond is!! Asks Luke an impossible thing.. I'm just still gushing!!! (I don't think it's right but I think it's so in character)
I had been checking every day for the new chapter and you went above and beyond!!! I feel like aemond would go to vaghar and just have her protect him during this time - if he doesn't allow Luke near him (boundaries are good in this situation I think though)
Woohoo so good to hear you're enjoying it!!
Readers are very welcome to be biased towards Aemond, he's got less power in their society and in this situation, plus you know the thoughts/feelings/intentions behind all his actions, so his big mistakes are much easier to excuse!
The Blacks are not quite parading around about their opinions yet--just getting Rhaenyra on the throne after behaving *like* an omega almost started a war--but you're right that the position they've accidentally put Aemond in isn't very conducive to their past sentiments about omega rights and such.
I'd keep in mind they've mostly been guilty of ignorance and toxic optimism thus far, not malicious disregard or selfishness. Still frustrating, but not quite as damning. They were simply NOT prepared for sun tea to suddenly just disappear entirely from King's Landing one day despite all their connections (maybe they should have been, but then again keeping large/multiple stores of it could have drawn more attention). If they had reason to anticipate this, Rhaenyra would be thorough and have a private place prepared to hide Jace away.
Last, just a note that when Aemond sees an expression on Luke's face and "clearly" knows what it means? He's not always right. Glad to hear you love his unhinged-ness in chapter 10, it was a long time time coming!!
Considering his last words of the chapter to Luke were "STAY AWAY" right before running off, it's safe to assume he doesn't want to be near him right now 😂👌 We'll see where he goes next chapter!!

Why Shielding Yourself from the Dark Matters More Than Forced Optimism
Instead of gaslighting positivity, embrace the power of realistic optimism.
Telling someone to "just be positive" when they're struggling with negativity feels dismissive and invalidating. It essentially says, "My comfort with your forced happiness is more important than acknowledging your genuine feelings."
Research reveals a fascinating truth: Health isn't just about being blindly optimistic, it's about the absence of pessimism. A realistic, balanced outlook, where you acknowledge the shadows but don't dwell in them, is more impactful than forcing a smile.
Shielding yourself from the dark side isn't about naivety, it's about self-preservation. When you expect the worst, you can fall into a self-fulfilling prophecy, paralyzed by fear and inaction. This "vicious cycle" can sabotage your health-promoting behaviors and leave you feeling lost.
Avoiding pessimism isn't about pretending everything is sunshine and rainbows. It's about empowering yourself to choose the lens through which you view the world. Choose a lens that acknowledges the complexities of life, the challenges and the joys, but ultimately guides you towards action and growth.
Remember, true optimism isn't blind cheerleading, it's the courage to face reality with a hopeful heart. It's about believing in your own strength and resilience, even when the shadows seem overwhelming.
So, let's ditch the toxic positivity and embrace the power of realistic optimism. Let's create a space where acknowledging darkness doesn't equate to pessimism, but rather serves as the fertile ground for cultivating a healthy, balanced, and hopeful outlook on life.
