A life is made of moments. A finite number of moments that would bring you joy, loss, triumphs and failures.
Trixie had watched those moments on so many humans. From the safety of her rafters in her cathedral Trixie watched those begin their lives, take wobbling steps, first loves and marriages. She watched humans pray for a miracle and watch lives come to an end. Over and over and it was beautiful. Pages upon pages became covered with sketches of stories that she heard. Trixie had put together stories of those around her.
But they were not her stories, they were not her moments. She was an outsider, longing for moments of her own.
Her story started simple, An eldest daughter, a guardian to the same cathedral her parents were, that her younger siblings would. A small clan in a small village in France.
She didn't know who she was.
But she was optimistic to learn, starting her journey away from her family. She attempted job after job, exploring passions she never would have had a chance to.
She attempted love, though that was a failure at the mention of who she was.
She attempted to be a guardian in other ways, as a nurse, a caretaker.
She attempted to be creative as a writer and then creative as a baker.
But in-between these moments, these tiny slivers of stories. Trixie experienced loss and war and death and major advancements.
It was kind of exhausting.
These days, Trixie longs for the quiet morning of the cathedral. After almost hundred years of moments of loss, of pain, of War and death. She's not sure if her long story is worth continuing around humans and mortals or if she should return home. To be the guardian she was meant to be.
Even after all this time Trixie still isn't too sure who she is.
The eldest daughter.
A guardian.
A nurse? An architect? pâtissier ? A novelist?
Who did she want to be?

All her life Jessie has been the one left behind when she thought she’d found a family. And that’s a long life, with a lot of leaving. First her parents, trying to stay out of her unhappy marriage, then her wastrel of a husband. He’d always seen her as a trophy, but a trophy brings no comfort to a man whose only real love is the chase, and so of course one morning he was gone with nothing but a note to promise that he’d return once he’d struck it lucky in the gold rush out west. After that she swore she wouldn’t trust so easily.
Struggling to try and maintain the farm on her own, Jessie kept the peace by turning a blind eye to Pete and his gang, but in turn that became cooking them meals, and fixing up their clothes, and their injuries. Soon enough she abandoned being abandoned, and took up with the gang instead, under Pete’s protection. With the Round Up Gang, Jessie was an integral part of the chaotic, ragtag, dirty band of criminals they called a family. She was the one who whispered in Pete’s ear when the plan needed fixing, the first one to see flaws in a plan and the one who always had a contingency plan, even if Pete was the one taking the glory. And it was Pete’s genius idea to turn them all into Vampires. Perhaps if she’d had longer to think about it, she’d have found the flaw in that plan too, but at the time she was blinded by the thought of an eternal family, a family who would never leave her.
But then, with the arrival of Bill, something else stirred in her. She saw the worst of the gang coming to the forefront, their cruellest instincts no longer tempered by humanity or faith. Turning Bill was the heaviest weight of her life for many long years - but although she tried to protect him and help him adjust, he was blind to Pete’s cruelty. When the gang fell apart, she felt them leaving her. And this time she had to be the one to leave, to seal her heart and protect herself.
So she travelled the world, the beautiful woman with the sad eyes and the charming smile, of course she made friends in the upper echelons of society. And of course she put her old skills to good use, scamming and stealing from the heirs and heiresses of the rich through the beginning of the 20th century to fund her next adventure. And with a little canny management of her funds, Jessie hasn’t had to lift a finger to provide for herself since. But then everything shifted. An old favour called in, and Jessie found herself playing witness to the very worst of the twentieth century too.
After the Second World War, Jessie disappeared almost completely from the view of vampiric society, her whereabouts, and what she was up to known to only a very select few who could be trusted to be discrete. Until she returned, in 2002, in spectacular style as though she’d never been away. Wild, free, always quick to laugh and quick to anger… only a very small handful of people would ever have noticed the difference those years had wrought in her. Now her wanderings, and some forwarded screenshots of a certain gossip blog, have sent her Swynlake bound.
