𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐫𝐮𝐧 𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲?

everything changed the night manjiro decided to show up at your window. you were still shaken up from past events but, the two of you were always there to comfort each other. that’s why you jumped slightly in your bed when you heard a knocking on the glass.

when you looked, there he was, peering into your window. “..Mikey?” you blinked. shuffling over to open your window. "Mikey why are you here?"

"Just let me in, okay?" You sigh, but nod, stepping to the side so he can climb in. You watch as he sits down and takes in a deep breath. "Was there.. something you needed?" You ask.

He shakes his head. "Not something I need, but something that I wanna say to you." A bead of sweat trails down your face nervously, and you nod, urging him to continue.

"I wasn’t planning on telling you this, but I felt like it would be better if I did.. I’m sorry I couldn’t live up to my promise." he mumbles the last part. "..what do you mean promise?"

Mikey watches you. "I’m not gonna be here for long, y’know?"

You pause, giving him a weird look. "and why not?"

"I’m.. planning on running away."

This was news to you. You could understand that the weight of everything from Valhalla to the loss of his sister.. and every other thing that basically got fucked up could’ve been stressful, but you never guessed that he’d actually… run away.

But you don’t judge him for it. "Why? What happened?" is all you ask.

And he shrugs, shuffling in place awkwardly. "….you know." His voice starts to tremble when he speaks, and his eyes begin to gloss up (if that’s even a term.) "you might not get it.. but I really don’t want to hurt you guys.. especially you."

You sit beside him on your bed, slightly leaning towards him, "do you want to talk about it?" eyes scanning over him as he thinks for a bit. "..I would, but I don’t know how you’d think of me after. it doesn’t really matter anyways.."

You shake your head, "we’ve really just.. got each other now y’know? I’ll happily listen to what you have to say."

he hesitates.

"you sure?"

"positive."

Mikey nods, "..you remember what happened at bloody halloween, right?" you let out a sharp exhale, "vividly."

"when I punched kazutora?" he says, and you hum. "Yeah, what about it?"

"I have… no recollection of punching him. Only when it was over did I realize what I was doing." he sighs.

you nod, sitting quietly for a few seconds to register what he was saying. "so you just tapped out?"

"I guess..? But I’m scared if it’ll happen again.. to you guys especially."

"well.. what do you want me to do?"

Mikey goes silent before shaking his head. "Nothing. I just wanted to tell you before I go. I don’t think… I don’t think you’ll ever really see me again." his gaze travels down to the floor. "And that’s my intention anyways."

You begin to think. This, is definitely a serious problem. But he doesn’t seem to want or consider therapy because if he did, he would’ve been going already. There’s also a high probability of your life being put in grave danger. So you shrug, "I’ll go with you." But your proposition gets shut down with a firm no.

"And why not? ..I could help you and.. I don’t want for you to just be going through whatever you’re dealing with alone!"

" [name] I don’t want to potentially end up killing you." You go silent, so he chooses to continue with his reasoning. "you’re the least person who I want to hurt out there.. it’s dangerous.. I want to keep you safe no matter what because you’re the only one I have." He then stands up, walking back to your window with the intend to leave.

"If anyone asks where I went, pretend you don’t know anything."

"Can I just go with you?" you plead, hoping he’d change his mind. "You’re not even thinking about how I’d feel about this, you’re just leaving me!" your eyes begin to water. "I just.. don’t want you to leave."

He wraps his arms around you, in some attempt to comfort your cries. "I know.. and im sorry for not telling you sooner." you wrap your arms around him tighter, feeling his warmth. "please.. please just let me go with you." you laugh dryly, "if I y’know.. end up dying, you could say I told you so."

" [name] .. you know I don’t wanna do that."

You wipe your tears away, shrugging. "So? why are so you sure that I’ll end up dying?.. if you don’t want to hurt me.. would you still do it?"

"probably." He lets go of you, crossing his arms together. "I’m just warning you. If you come with me, your safety won’t be guaranteed." Your eyes widen, surprised that you were actually able to change his mind.

"so you’ll let me go with you?"

"do what you want.. but whatever happens to you won’t be my fault." He stares directly into your eyes this time. "Understand?"

nodding, you smile softly. "I do.. and I wouldn’t blame you for it either way."

There was a dead silence in the room. Mikey was sitting on the bed staring at you and Sanzu right in front of you angrily. Mikey asked again in a stern tone.

"I said what is she doing here?"

Sanzu quickly left you there and moved to Mikey's bed and spoke hastily.

"Mikey, lie down, you should rest."

As Mikey turned his angry gaze towards Sanzu, Sanzu stopped and took his outstretched hand. Mikey slowly got up from the bed and tried to step towards you, but with the pain he felt in his chest, he brought his hand to his chest and stopped. You rushed towards him and got under his other arm to support him.

"Mikey, you need to rest. You shouldn't stand up like that."

He didn't say anything when he turned his head and looked at you. He slowly took his arm away from you and looked at the others. He looked around the room before turning to Sanzu.

"Did you bring her here, Sanzu?"

As Sanzu backed away in fear, Mikey rushed to him and grabbed the man hard by the throat and pinned him to the wall. Everyone in the room watched nervously as you opened your eyes in fear.

"Speak Sanzu! Did you bring her here?"

"Mikey..." As Sanzu whispered in fear, you rushed over to Mikey and gently grabbed his arm. "Mikey, stop please..."

You hugged his arm when you were surprised by what you did "It's not his fault, Mikey! I... I saw on the news that Bonten's boss was injured... and... and I wanted to help."

Mikey was listening to your frightened voice without reacting.

"I got to him, Mikey! I wanted to save you, please let him go"

Everyone in the room looked at you in surprise. Sanzu was just about to hurt you and now you were protecting him? When Sanzu looked at you after what you said, Mikey let go of his throat and turned to you slowly. He stared at your face for a while without saying anything, then sighed and turned to the others.

"Leave us alone!"

As all the Bonten members quietly left the room, Mikey walked over to the bed and sat down. He patted the space beside him and waited for you to sit down.

When you sat on the bed and looked at him, you could tell that he was hurting. His wound was very new and it scared you.

You sat in silence for a while. No one said anything. When the silence started to bother you, Mikey spoke up.

"Why did you lie ?"

he took a deep sigh as you turned to him in surprise.

"Why did you protect Sanzu? Even though he scared you?"

You looked at him in surprise, you didn't know what to say. How did he know?

"Don't look at me like that y/n... we both know you can't lie. And even if you hear something like this on the news, you can't reach us."

He was right, the lie you told was so ridiculous..

"Now will you tell me why?"

You smiled at him. Years later, you looked at that face you loved so much and smiled.

"He cares for you..."

This time it was Mikey's turn to stare in surprise.

"Your men all love and care about you, Mikey. That's why they came to me even though they knew you'd be angry. Because they had no choice."

You smiled again and reached for Mikey's hand. He opened his eyes wide and looked at you as you reached out and took his hand.

"I care about you too, Mikey. That's why I did the surgery without thinking. I couldn't lose you again."

There was a moment of silence. Mikey slowly withdrew his hand and spoke, looking at the wall across from him.

"After this is over, they'll drive you home. And you won't see me again y/n. I promise I won't ruin your life."

His words were so cold. You couldn't tell if they contained any emotion. But this time you didn't want to leave him.

He winced and turned to you as you slowly brought your hand to his cheek. When you smiled at him, he had an expression that said he didn't understand.

"You never ruined my life, Mikey. You gave me a life, you pulled me out of that swamp when I was a little kid."

Your eyes were shining when you said that. Mikey noticed that you were looking just like 10 years ago. You always smiled when you looked at him, there was a light in your eyes.

"I didn't save you because I owe you, Mikey. I saved you because I love you."

Your words brought some softening to his face. You knew, he had been so lonely for years and didn't even remember what love was. But you were going to remind him.

"Let's stay together a little longer Mikey, I miss you so much. And I know you do too."

You smiled when he whispered "Y/n..."

“For years I have always felt that someone was watching me. Sometimes I thought it was paranoia, but then I realized. Someone was secretly protecting me.I know it's you Mikey, you didn't even say goodbye to me because you didn't give up on me. I can see it in your eyes. Let's be together again. I know you wanted to protect me but wasn't it enough to punish yourself? As long as I'm with you, I'm not afraid of death, Mikey."

"I'm afraid!"

You were startled by his shouting at once. When he saw this, he lowered his voice.

"I'm scared y/n. I can't let anyone else die because of me. I can't lose another one. You're the only one left from my past-"

Suddenly the door opened and you both turned to the door. It was Kokonoi who opened the door.

"Building intrusion detected. They must have heard you were injured, Mikey. We have to go." You looked at him in surprise as Mikey got up in anger. He was right, his life was really dangerous.
