Tell us about the 17 is a serious criminal WIP?

this is a side-story from the kih’ad series offshoot of the noncon au, that happened in the very early days of Kamino.

Seventeen is a 10 standard-year-old-equivalent, and he is a Good Soldier, but unfortunately the same traits that will make him the best special operations soldier in the whole GAR when he’s grown, could get him into serious trouble now as a cadet.

He hears intel and he analyzes it, and he plans and executes a covert mission.

The intel: a project is being streamlined, and Seventeen has a burning need to know what it’s about before it disappears. Even in the few years he’s been boots on deck Seventeen unfortunately already has experience with what streamlining means. It happened to the Nulls, most of the 90’s batch too, and the gestational process for the main units has been streamlined since the beginning. When Seventeen infiltrates the special project laboratory, he decides on the spot that it is important enough to try to salvage as much of this classified material as he can before it gets discarded.

He’s not big enough or fast enough to relocate all of the classified material, so he grabs the nearest and smallest couple units, and spends the next couple hours stashed in a closet while he furiously hacks into records to hide his crimes weirdly pale stolen cadets amongst the general population. It’s feasible; these ones are the right shape, not deformed…for the most part.

Seventeen doesn’t see any of them again until years later.

(Rex was little enough that he doesn’t remember his experimental designation, but Seventeen does, and he is therefore quietly amused at the name he chose having a similar sound to Ksi, the High Galactic symbol he’d been labelled with. Yes, Omega was from the same experiment. No Seventeen didn’t grab her. Nala Se was allowed to keep one specimen).

happy Sunday - I'm thinking about trans clones again

Language, like many other foundational subjects, is taught to them in flash training modules. Flash training modules function analogously to downloads—lessons are crafted precisely for clone-neural configurations. 

A cadet sits at the station, the curving bulbous monitor blocking all of their peripheral vision, obscuring the rows upon rows of other cadets just like them off to either side. The flash training rooms are as large as the cafeteria, extending out infinitely from gleaming white end to gleaming white end. The thick headsets they wear are enough to block out the evidence of other life around them, muting the sound of hundreds of clones breathing and blinking and swallowing in the same space. 

Flash training is like reading the most sensible and parsable text in the galaxy. Each equation, theorem, tactic, and conjugation perfectly understood after one read—one glance. It’s designed that way.

If a clone encounters difficulties—if something doesn’t make sense, if a question is answered wrong, if it is hard—it is indicative of developmental abnormalities. Quickly, they have learned to close ranks around the abnormal performers, the under-performing.

The alternative doesn’t bear thinking about. 

In studying language modules, clone cadets learn pronouns. Applying those words to themselves is not part of the educational material. The Longnecks and the trainers call them “him” and “he” and “them”. The worst ones call the clones “it”. 

Here, today, a clone cadet finishing their fourth-year language and grammar module experiences an abnormality. 

“She,” she forms with her lips, quiet as a whisper. “Her.”

Do you think that some trans clones became dysphoric only after getting out of Kamino? Like, did they think human cis men and cis women had the same morphologies and bodies and never really considered themselves trans because identity was never discussed with Kaminoans? Were their first meetings with different kinds of humans shocking in the sense where they realized that most people assumed they were all men? Did the clones who weren't trans found surprising to hear that they were considered exactly the same as their sisters or siblings even when they didn't have the same genders?

Or did they all know that from the start?

I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about trans clones and how you'd even conceptualize of gender when in, essentially, a single-sex society, when the only examples you see of "women" are people you can never be, because you're a clone and they are Kaminoas or trainers, and you and your peers and all the examples of what you could grow into are less "men" than "troopers". When you don't have female children to compare/contrast yourself to as a child, when you aren't taught "you must do X and be Y because you are a boy" but rather "beacause you are a clone made to be a soldier". The differences between a clone trooper and a civilian "man", and how their experience is so foreign, and there are more similarities between civilian men and civilian women than between the clones and either group.

And also, how their idea of gender and the galaxy of possibilities it represents would have absolutely exploded when they shipped out and saw people dressing and presenting and filling social roles they could never have imagined. And now for the first time they can choose a little of their appearance, their paint and tattoos, even if they can't choose what they wear beyond uniforms or armor.

Ultimately what I'm really saying is- you can't convince me there wasn't some clone in the 501st who saw Padme's ridiculously extravagant outfits and heavy makeup and intricate hairstyles, and decided that if they ever got to choose their own clothes and non-regulation hairstyles, they wanted to look like her.

I have made Yet Another clone trooper OC. Behold ARC Corporal Tali (short for Talisman), CT-7990, she/they.

Underneath her helmet, Tali has chin length black curls dip-dyed neon lavender and clipped half-back, and she also has facial scars similar to Boost's, with the jagged tears over a good half-or-so of their face. She's beefed up but quiet and prone to shy smiles. She indulges in traditionally girly things as often as possible and also kicks ass in the gym and on the boloball field. Her specialty as an ARC is infiltration and data retrieval, so she's very tech savvy as part of her job, but it's not her Thing.

She and Rex are from the same decanting batch but were separated into different training batches very early on, so they pretty much only know the other exists. They're not close by any definition of the term, though they do get along well when paired together for missions. Out of the commanders, she's actually closest to Wolffe, and she calls him "buir" increasingly less jokingly.

Her vod'ika/buddy/pairbond/qpp is Comet and they're thick as thieves and twice the trouble. The first thing she does after meeting up with the 104th is always finding Comet and cuddling the shit out of him until they both fall asleep. Tali was pulled for ARC training early and she actually joined Comet's squad after graduating to catch up on the few things she missed. They were instant best pals, exactly like when you meet another autistic and within sixty seconds are like "ah yes you are one of the Ones, one of my soulmates, whom I cannot believe I have ever never known".

Tali is aro-ace and heterosensual - only attracted to masc folks for cuddling and kissing, and not interested in romance or Adult Activities (TM) with anyone. For her armor, I chose purple because of the Mandalorian symbolism it has for luck (as in "good luck talisman") and also because the ace flag. 😅

Art-wise, I decided to experiment a little with the lighting. I have a layer of blue, grey, and orange (501st blue, 104th purple-grey, and 212th orange) at 10% on top of the overlay layers I use for shading. It looks interesting for sure, the warm colors on the right, the cool colors on the left, and the neutral colors in the middle, but I'm not yet sure if it's something I want to keep as part of my style.

back to the oc grind with another member of Blossom Squad, Killcount!! This guy is named for keeping count of all the clankers he takes down, and then memorializes each dozen by adding a little strip to his tattoos :3. They’re a heavy gunner and a bit of a dramatic and a prankster, but with the same heart of gold as the rest of their batch. He isn’t as good with people as his vod, but he does love learning the local lingo at all the planets he visits, and particularly enjoys adding new swears to his vocabulary. I have feelings for them hsgwjdjjsjd
