BOTW Champions Sexuality/Gender Headcanons

In honor of pride month! Stay safe out there! 🏳️‍🌈

Urbosa- lesbian, cis ally, she/her, publicly out and will defend her and the other champion's identity to the death

Daruk- ace spectrum, biromantic, cis ally, he/him, he was really excited when he learned about ace spec people because he finally had an identity that fit him

Revali- omnisexual, demiromantic, he/they, it took him a long time to get comfortable with his identity and be struggled with repressed homophobia. They're still learning, but they have gotten a lot better

Mipha- bisexual, trans fem, she/her, she's eternally the hopeless romantic and has grown very confident in her identity with support from her family and friends

Zelda- asexual, panromantic, non-binary, she/they, she's very supportive of her community and proud of her identity, but a lot of their fight tends to drain when faced with their father's disapproval

Link- asexual, homoromantic, trans masc, he/him, he doesn't tend to make a big statement about his identity. He didn't even bother coming out to the champions, they eventually figured it out on their own. In his mind, he is who he is and feels no need to cater to others.

Purrah- asexual, aromatic, genderfluid, any pronouns (depends), she would definitely have the most obscure and confusing gender envy pinterest board

Robbie- asexual, aromatic, agender, any pronouns (no preference), whenever some asks him what any aspect of his identity is he just says "no".

Childhood friends. canon is a suggestion to me.

Mipha is three hylian years than Revali (ex: modern au, Mipha is 17, Revali is 14)

Revali would fly from Tabantha to the domain, as part of his training, where Mipha would stay with him until he recovered from the long flight.

Little Mipha would be fascinated by hylian girls' hairstyles, and would practice on Revali's hair feathers

Queer platonic as fuck

Co-parented a goldfish they found, it died within a week and revali is still mourning his lost child

they're both trans sorry

Mipha wanted to be a pirate as a kid, Revali was always first mate (much to his dismay)

Wildlife is limited in Hebra, so Revali gets really excited when he sees a frog or something in Zorana

Mipha has tried and failed several times to teach Revali to swim

Spent weeks planning a trip to Faron in secret, barely made it to the wetlands before getting caught

Revali is really bad with verbal affection (if you couldn't tell) but especially as a kid so instead he collected shiny trinkets and beads and gave them to Mipha as gifts

Mipha was really into arts and crafts as a kid and made little charms for Revali to put on his quiver (modern Mipha is an Aquabeads fiend)

Mipha has a fear of heights, and Revali has a fear of deep water

My Revali headcanon is that he can sing quite well but never does because he feels like it’s a waste of his time.

Oh this is a good one!

I like to think that he is naturally gifted at all things musical, particularly singing, but he decided to focus more on archery and flight because that’s what he actually loves, and music isn’t really something he cares for.

I like to think that music, which is something he probably isn’t all that interested in, comes to him naturally, but archery and flight didn’t come to him naturally at all and he had to work hard to become a master of archery and flight.

I also personally head-canon him as trans, and since the Rito Village motto is that the men are fine archers and the women are even better singers, it would make sense that he would want to prove himself as an archer.

With the way that Link rocks every outfit out there, masculine, feminine, and in between I like to think he is either a trans guy (ftm) or is like non binary. Not really caring, finding comfort being seen as a vai or voe or neither at all.

Ok first off he is too sassy for his own good. I have a love hate relationship with this bird. Which brings me to my first point.

Zelda

He's gay, mlm a sassy little gay man. I will take no criticism on this actually.

She is bi, she understands beauty on a scientific level. She could explain the science behind a brains attraction to just about anyone.

Urbosa

She'd also probably be ok with being a u'haul gay. Having a cute library built into the walls with a loft bed sitting area where she could sit and read, or write in her journal, or cuddle with a partner as she tells them about her most recent research

That is a strong lesbian if ever I saw one. She is as proud as she is strong. Anyone ever try to discriminate against her or someone else around her she'd happily put them in their place.

Bolson

With a catchphrase such as "SHA-DING" there is no one this is a fully straight man.

Not to mention his odd construction sayings.

SIDON

Now for starts this is my favorite character (he may or may not have been the reason I got into botw lol)

I have always seen him as pan, part of his color pallet looked like the flag pretty clearly.

I felt like he might’ve been leaning towards masculine folks more, but was open to other relationships.

In tears of the kingdom he has a wife, but that doesn't stop my brain from imagining him (and his wife) either being in a poly relationship or Sidon having a mlm relation while his wife has a wlw one. (My dream relation may or may not be Sidon and Link, and Yona and Zelda. It'd just be so cute, and could lead for some intresting areanged marrige fanfics)

for the divine beasts in trans hyrule- you said you weren't sure on the order to do it in. Will the journey of the divine bests quests impact Link in rediscovering her gender?

short answer — yes!

longer answer — im directly going to be choosing the order Link approaches the divine beasts based on what i think her gender journey is going to look like; to do this i’m trying to distill each section into specific themes & story beats to see how it best fits into an exploration of gender. for example, Link might learn lessons of self-assurance from her time with Revali, or inner healing from her time with Mipha.

after i know what i want to explore in each region & how it relates to the metaplot of the game, i can better line them up and decide which part progresses from which, which will help me stitch smaller scenes into larger sequences.
