"most allegedly haunted houses turn out to have gas leaks!"
no they don't. you are merely skimming the surface of mundane shit that can be wrong with old houses with your one puny little explanation that only fits a very small number of cases. try harder

yknow a moment from today that I feel is really under appreciated and kinda highlights the difference between the people q!Bad trusts and the people he doesn’t?
(this is about the characters obviously. You cannot make me use q! on long analysis posts. None of you can make me.)
Aypierre was showing Bad the room he used to capture and question Fred, and built into the only entry into the main room was an inventory scanner.
An inventory scanner - the thing Bad was hesitant to use to save Forever because he was scared of the islanders knowing of its existence and turning it against him. He did it anyway obviously because he cares about Forever but it’s clear he knows this is the one thing that could remove all his carefully built up protections in an instant. And the only way into the room was through it.
So Bad stops, of course, and Aypierre (who already walked through it first) notices and goes “I’ll just give you your items back, come through”
And Bad says “Ehhhh no, I…”
And Aypierre reassures him “You can come through. Don’t worry, don’t worry, don’t worry.
And Bad repeats “Ehhhh no…” And then “Forgive my paranoia, can you disable it? Or make an opening for me?” He asks it very politely too, as if he believes it’s a hard ask (it’s not).
And Aypierre does. That’s why I think this moment is underrated. Bad asks for forgiveness for his paranoia - a paranoia that has been built up and rewarded and reinforced by his experiences on the island - and yet Aypierre doesn’t treat it like a burden. He doesn’t complain about it, he doesn’t tell Bad he’s overreacting, and he certainly doesn’t try to guilt-trip or otherwise insist Bad go through when he’s clearly uncomfortable. He just… makes another opening, and Bad walks through that, and the moment of hesitance, of distrust, is left behind. Not just left behind, but accepted. From Bad’s perspective, Aypierre has essentially communicated that “I can see you don’t trust me fully, and that’s okay, I understand why. It’s not a big deal, and I can move on.”
And I think that acceptance is why Aypierre has managed to gain an impressive amount of Bad’s trust so much faster than other islanders. I think that’s why when he told Bad he put cameras in his house, Bad didn’t get upset.
A lot of islanders, even islanders that are Bad’s friends, would not have reacted the way Aypierre did to Bad not wanting to step through the inventory scanner. And it does make a difference.

I realize this is a weird question for a Sunday morning, but does anybody have particularly incisive articles about the tension between architectural preservation and the need (because I do think it's a need!) for new buildings, new spaces, and revising the landscape of a city?
I'm watching a piece on Richard Nickel, who is almost single-handedly responsible for photographing the work of Louis Sullivan and other architects of the Chicago Prairie School, prior to their demolition in the 60s. It's a great piece, and I love Nickel's photographs, but as someone who knows only the Chicago that sprang up in the wake of Nickel's, I can't help but wonder if there's more than simple aesthetics at play here.

Unova x DSMP : Basic Badge
Captain Puffy is certainly the most famous explorer of Unova ! Her numerous travels gave her artefacts from all around the world and stories you can find in the library behind the museum she opened.
Tumblr media
Some says her important collection come from her past as a pirate, but Captain Puffy has denied having any memories about her past.
She is still travelling and goes frequently across the region. Her last journey had her meet a new pupil, who quickly grew as a powerful trainer in the West region and a precious mentee. She also has a long standing rivalry with the previous Opelucid gym leader, nothing too grievous luckily.
Captain Puffy specializes in the normal type. Her signature pokemon is a Cinccino with a fur as soft and white than her trainer, and just as mischevious.
Her opponents are often taken by surprise by her strength and strategical mind, as well as her almost inexistant type weakness. Many catch a fighting pokemon in the forest around only to be able to get around her.
To come : Insect Badge
Tumblr media
While our previous gym leader travels across regions, this one travels across the world ! Always in search of new tales by which to get inspired, this artist love to meet people and keep their stories alive.
Wait ! There is more... ?
To the readers and reviewers :
First, thank you ! I don't reblog a lot to not give away clues but it's a delight to read reactions and know people like it.
Second, I propose you a challenge seeing as you find them pretty easily : if the name of each leader fall correctly before their reveal, you can get more of the AU sooner (Some characters I'd reveal anyway, but you'd know about them faster).
So far, at least one person always had the name of the next gym leader. No one has yet found the third. Good luck !

A portrait of Chief Souligny of the Menominee (Wisconsin Historical Society). Undated, but credited to the English-born American artist Samuel Marsden Brookes (1816-1892).
I can't find any information about Souligny other than what the Wisconsin Historical Society provides: that he was named after his French great-grandfather, and he was an ally of Tecumseh who sided with the British in the War of 1812. He later changed his loyalty to the United States, and he is shown wearing a James Madison Peace Medal.
Yesterday I picked up Tecumseh and the Prophet: The Shawnee Brothers Who Defied a Nation by Peter Cozzens from the library. I'm currently reading the section in the book about the battle for Fort Meigs, which is eye-opening. But there's nothing in the book's index about Chief Souligny. Maybe he was a very minor figure in Tecumseh's confederacy, I don't know.
It's frustrating and it feels like a symbol of how hard it is to learn the specifics of Indigenous participation in the War of the 1812: and there was a lot of it, especially on what was then the northwestern frontier of the United States. Many First Nations allied with the British against the expansion of US settlements, and in many War of 1812 battles there are a substantial number of Indigenous warriors, who are sometimes in the majority with British regulars and USAmerican army or militia as the other forces.
There are yearly reenactments of the Siege of Prarie du Chien in the War of 1812, but if you look up pictures you won't see any Menominee, Ho-Chunk, or Meskwaki—who were the vast majority of participants. If they're present they never seem to be in the photos.

Hot Take
museums should label 19th-century women’s clothing primarily by formality (except in the case of garments with specific purposes, eg. “cycling costume” or “nightgown”), not by the 10,000 different terms they might be called at the time
my reasoning is that the current hodgepodge of terms, while technically accurate to the period:
1. reinforces the myth that middle- or upper-class women used to always change their dresses many times a day No Matter What, rather than what seems to me the primary-source-supported reality- that they changed situationally, as necessary
2. promotes unnecessary disconnect between the past and the present. we have varying degrees of clothing formality today, just without specific terms for each one. they had garments that could serve for multiple purposes and be dressed up or down with accessories back then. but because we don’t talk about an “afternoon dress” vs. a “ball gown” and they didn’t talk about the dress code for a party being “nice casual” vs. “dressy.” there’s this false idea that our systems of clothing changes/formality are Totally Different. which is really not the case, I think
3. even they couldn’t agree on what to call each individual outfit! I’ve seen fashion plates in magazines where the textual description and the label on the image give the same dress different names
this post brought to you by: Marzi Has Seen Too Many Gowns Labeled “Evening Gown” On Museum Websites Apparently For Their Formality When In Truth They Do Not Have The Single Factor That Usually Made A Dress Strictly For Evening At The Time (namely, revealing more skin about the chest and arms) And Therefore Would Have Stood Just As Well For Formal Daytime Events

So. The Tablet of Ahkmenrah.
Not only can it bring inanimate objects that resemble living creatures to life, but it can also bring dead corpses back to life and make older people feel young again.
Soooo... does this mean that it can, if taken too close to a graveyard, bring the buried dead people back to life? Or can it make skeletal remains under the earth come to life too? Like bodies that haven't been found from thousands of years ago, or dinosaur bones that haven't been uncovered? If this is the case, then it would be horrifying, because then these suddenly revived people and animals would be trapped under the earth while alive and they probably have no way out.
I wonder if there other cases similar to Ahkmenrah's at the start of the trilogy, except a person has been trapped underground near or under the Museum for the past fifty or so years, awakening from the dead every night just to be angry and stuck and hopeless in the dark, but no one can hear them, no matter how loud or violent they get.
Just a thought I had after rewatching the natm movies.
